The day Obama jumped the shark [Reader Post]

This could be a really simple post. All I have to do is post Drudge headlines. First, these three:

LIBYAN OFFICIAL WARNED USA ‘3 DAYS BEFORE ATTACK’…
Libyan president: ‘No doubt’ was ‘preplanned’ starting months ago…
Video Purports To Show US Ambassador Dragged, Cheers From Crowd…

and then this one:

Ambassador Rice: Attack NOT Premeditated…

But let’s flesh them out a bit.

It is obvious to all but the most mentally impaired that the attack that took the life of Ambassador Chris Stevens and three other Americans was planned. Libyan officials agree. Hell, they even warned Washington.

Three days before the deadly assault on the United States consulate in Libya, a local security official says he met with American diplomats in the city and warned them about deteriorating security.

Libya’s current President made it clear that this was planned:

Libya President Mohamed Yousef El-Magariaf said Sunday that 50 arrests have been made in connection with last week’s “preplanned” attack on the U.S. consulate in Benghazi that left U.S. Ambassador Chris Stevens and three other Americans dead.

“The way these perpetrators acted and moved — I think we, and they’re choosing the specific date for this so-called demonstration, I think we have no, this leaves us with no doubt that this was pre-planned, determined,” Magariaf said on CBS’s “Face the Nation.”

“And you believe that this was the work of Al Qaeda, and you believe that it was led by foreigners. Is that what you’re telling us?” CBS host Bob Schieffer asked.

“It was planned, definitely. It was planned by foreigners, by people who entered the country a few months ago. And they were planning this criminal act since their arrival,” Magariaf said.

And the Obama adminstration?

Um, no it wasn’t. It was spontaneous.

U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Susan Rice said the attack on the American consulate in Benghazi last week was not premeditated, directly contradicting top Libyan officials who say the attack was planned in advance.

“Our current best assessment, based on the information that we have at present, is that, in fact, what this began as, it was a spontaneous – not a premeditated – response to what had transpired in Cairo,” Rice told me this morning on “This Week.”

“In Cairo, as you know, a few hours earlier, there was a violent protest that was undertaken in reaction to this very offensive video that was disseminated,” Rice said, referring to protests in Egypt Tuesday over a film that depicts the Prophet Muhammad as a fraud. Protesters in Cairo breached the walls of the U.S. Embassy, tearing apart an American flag.

“We believe that folks in Benghazi, a small number of people came to the embassy to – or to the consulate, rather, to replicate the sort of challenge that was posed in Cairo,” Rice said. “And then as that unfolded, it seems to have been hijacked, let us say, by some individual clusters of extremists who came with heavier weapons… And it then evolved from there.”

Let’s recap:

– The attack in Bengahazi was not an attack in a nation’s capitol
– It was the only attack on US assets to include grenades and RPG’s
– It simply happened to occur when Chris Stevens was visiting
– The attackers knew where the safe house was
– There was no Marine guard
– It occurred on 9-11
– They knew Stevens was coming

I present to you three of the most grand lies in US government history:

“I am not a crook”

“I did not have sex with that woman”

“This was a spontaneous attack”

If you buy into this, and most liberals will, you are truly a useful idiot. Among those useful idiots?

Brian Williams, Anderson Cooper, Bob Schieffer, David Gregory.

And all of PMSNBC.

But the fact is, Obama has jumped the shark.

And let us harken back to Obama’s words:

I consider it part of my responsibility as President of the United States to fight against negative stereotypes of Islam wherever they appear.

Not Catholicism, not Judaism, only Islam.

The crowd was no doubt cheering on the good Samaritans who were carrying the ambassador through the streets to find medical attention. . . just ask some of the posters here.

Rahm (I actually feel kind of sorry for what he’s going through with the teachers’ union in Chicago) taught Obama to NEVER allow a crisis to ”go to waste.”
IF Obama hadn’t planned to curtail the 1st Amendment until after his re-election, this ”crisis” at least have him some foundation for doing so earlier, if not a few media co-horts begging him to do so.
We all know Obama had a hand in that UN law making insulting Islam an international crime.
We also know Obama has placed two Justices on the Supreme Court who would love nothing better than to begin superceding US law with International law.
So, it now becomes clear that Obama COULD have warned the Ambassador, could have better protected the Ambassador, could even have recalled out of Libya the Ambassador!
But instead Obama threw the Ambassador under the bus with fatal consequences.
Yes, the metaphor of “jumping the shark,” applies in this case.

Heck, even Black Liberation theologians can see the parallels.
James Cone wrote in his 1970 book A Black Theology of Liberation,

Black theology refuses to accept a God who is not identified totally with the goals of the black community. If God is not for us, if God is not against white racists, then God is a murderer, and we had better kill God.

Dexter Van Zile writes:

I cannot read Cone’s book and not think about Assyrians in Iraq being murdered in their churches by young men who have been told it is lawful and even necessary for them to kill non-Muslims.

Muslim doctrine, like the theology of white Christians that Cone condemned, encourages its adherents to believe that God has appointed them to rule over others, in this case Jews and Christians especially. This belief has been the source of untold suffering on the part of Christians, Jews, and others in Muslim majority countries throughout the world. It has been like this for centuries, and sadly enough this belief endures with lethal consequences.

One has to wonder why Cone and those who have embraced his arguments about white supremacy and privilege have failed to stand up to its Islamic analogue.

Are not the corpses of Christians murdered in Middle East and North Africa — on a regular basis — the strange fruit of Muslim supremacy?

What is remarkable is that liberation theology — which was so readily used to highlight the suffering of blacks in the U.S. — has not been used by its adherents to highlight the suffering of Christians under Muslim rule.

When politicians discard values whether they be constitutional or personal in order to pursue an ideology not value based, we get the current events (mortgage default, religious persecution, economic failure, indiscriminate killings like Chicago, teacher strikes that leave children flat, over reach of government).

the main stream media are the looser and will take OBAMA ,
with them IN NOVEMBER 6TH, THEY WILL BE CALL FOOLS,
THEIR POLLS ARE BOOSTED FOR OBAMA, LIARS,
AMERICA DON’T TRUSTTHE OBAMIST, THEY LIED AND LIE SOME MORE,
MITT ROMNEY IS GOING TO WIN BECAUSE OF THE PEOPLE WHO ARE OPENING THEIR EYES
AND WILL VOTE FOR HIM, GO AMERICA, PREPARE TO SHOW YOU’RE IN CHARGE, IF YOU LOVE AMERICA, LISTEN TO YOUR GUT’S FEELING,

It’s really fitting that Obama is compared with an old sitcom’s last gasp.
Obama had cast from another TV show at the White House and told one that, when he goes into the Oval Office, he JUST PRETENDS TO WORK and sits watching TV.

But……but……..Umbama PROMISED……….

“The Day I’m Inaugurated Muslim Hostility Will Ease.”

Really?

Wish I were more optimistic…a few weeks ago I thought Romney would win in a landslide…no longer…he’s running the worst Republican campaign since Tom Dewey. Granted, it does not help that the MSM lies and misrepresents EVERYTHING his says or does. But he must get beyond them and Obama’s lies.

My hope is that Romney will call out the media on their lies and Obama on his fake past in the debates. Does he have the nerve? Don’t think so…it’s just a hope. I think if Romney continues on his current “nice guy” path he will lose. Hate to say it.

A friend who has a PHd in economics tells me the best that could happen is an Obama win…things are going to get so bad over the next four years that it may finish the liberals for a generation. I hate to think…the worse, the better, it makes me feel like Lenin. Still…gotta remember…untimately God is in charge.

Obama has BLOOD on his hands. The week before, he skipped intelligence briefings. When he finally was briefed and received notice of the coming US embassy attack, Obama did nothing. No warnings, no alerts, no lock-down, no protection, no US Marines.

NOTHING.

Four Americans dead, classified documents taken, safe houses compromised, and yet Obama still campaigned. As the ambassador’s body was being dragged through the streets, Obama partied. Then got a good night’s sleep.

There is no doubt: Obama has BLOOD on his hands.

@VoteOutIncumbents: VOI

A friend who has a PHd in economics tells me the best that could happen is an Obama win…things are going to get so bad over the next four years that it may finish the liberals for a generation.

I’m not sure your friend is correct. I believe that if EC (empty chair) gets re-elected, there is a strong likelihood that we won’t have an election in 4 years. I’m not sure Romney can do very much to win, I think the Dimocrats are going to steal the election. They know the few states that just a few votes will determine the state and they will be sure that the right people are manning the polling places. This will likely be the largest turn out of dead voters ever. It’ll also be one of the smallest military vote turnouts ever. Military(absentee) always supports the Repubs, so they won’t get to vote. I agree that Romney is not running a good campaign, he needs to be talking about the incompetence in the EC now.

Wonder if liberals will start calling Obama War Criminal? Lets see those code pink, blood on the hands, etc. Or blocking traffic in downtown? Or breathless MSNBC, CNN coverage on whether or not Obama should submit himself and the US to the Hague?

This post has been up all day. Where are the Obama apologists?

Apparently this is being handled so badly by the Administration that they haven’t even been able to put together any additonal or better refined talking points. All they have now is the absurd story that it was all over a cheap crappy little video in a forgotten corner of the internet, and they just keep repeating it in the face of a mountain of public evidence to the contrary.

Maybe it’s just too overwhelming. The shallow falsehoods that don’t work because they can’t work, the public failure of their entire apology-based approach to Middle East foreign policy, the highly-visible midnight perp walk for the maker of this insignificant video to show submission to the Islamic mob — it’s like a sewer exploded in their faces and they’re still floundering around in the liquid-filled crater looking for a foothold.

Maybe the Democrats will come up with something a little better eventually, and then the trolls will begin stopping by. Or maybe they’ll just fall silent and let the MSM generate unrelated distractions. Their whole approach counts on continously generating a mass of propaganda faster than it can be demonstrated to be false. Maybe that approach has reached the breaking point.

OMG!!!!
Egypt won!
“The U.S. State Department is currently in negotiations with the Egyptian government for the transfer of custody of Omar Abdel-Rahman, also known as “the Blind Sheikh,” for humanitarian and health reasons, a source close to the the Obama administration told The Blaze.”
http://www.theblaze.com/stories/source-obama-administration-in-talks-to-transfer-blind-sheikh-to-egypt/

You saw all the posters.
This is what they really wanted.
He will live like a hero.
Our own Lockerbie bomber freed to the terrorists who he is worshiped by.

This post has been up all day. Where are the Obama apologists?

It’s possible they’re sitting back laughing. But please, carry on. I want to hear more about the fascist Muslim socialist communist, polkaist, takeover. There’s nothing quite as amusing as unbridled hysterical credulity.

@Wm T Sherman: Wait ‘ til the next one

Where are the Obama apologists?

After listening to the secretly recorded fundraiser tape released earlier today, I’ve been wondering the same thing about the Romney apologists:

“There are 47 percent of the people who will vote for the president no matter what. All right, there are 47 percent who are with him, who are dependent upon government, who believe that they are victims, who believe the government has a responsibility to care for them, who believe that they are entitled to health care, to food, to housing, to you-name-it. That that’s an entitlement. And the government should give it to them. And they will vote for this president no matter what. … These are people who pay no income tax. My job is is not to worry about those people. I’ll never convince them they should take personal responsibility and care for their lives.”

If you’re an elderly person struggling to live on a Social Security retirement check and entitled to Medicare, that message was about you. You just aren’t one of the people who was supposed to hear it.

Never mind that you might have worked for 50 years at a low-paying job to support yourself and your family. You should really should be taking some personal responsibility for your life. Ditto, if you’ve been struggling to make ends meet since the factory you worked in closed, or your job was outsourced to China.

Greg: If you’re a elderly person struggling to live on a Social Security retirement check and entitled to Medicare, that message was about you.

No, Greg… it wasn’t. There are no plans for any changes to those currently on Medicare and SS, or for those approaching it (55 I believe is the target age).

This is about endless unemployment, food stamps, plus increasing welfare and disability enrollment by lowering the eligibility standards. I would add it’s about adding Medicaid as a third entitlement, but since Romney’s already done that in Mass, and he’s already said he’s not repealing all of O’healthcare, he will also continue Medicaid as a third entitlement as POTUS. So he has no high moral ground there.

@ Greg,

The thing is Greg, when Romney expresses his contempt for those who “pay no income tax” what he’s really getting at is their lack of ingenuity. It’s not easy finding ways to hide tens of millions of dollars overseas to avoid paying income tax. Romney worked hard to not contribute to the US treasury coffers. He rightly sees being poor as a lame cop out.

This reminds me, I need to talk to my accountant. As one of the “47%”, I should have paid zero in taxes, rather than paying at double Mitt Romney’s effective tax rate.

@Greg:

Yeah, Greg, Romney is just making fun of some little old lady who is trying to survive on Social Security checks and Medicaid according to you. Nevermind that in both 2010 and 2011, she didn’t get one dime more on her SS check even though the cost of her groceries went up, the cost of her electricity and heating bills went up, the cost of the gas she had to put into her car to get to the doctors’ officer has doubled, and if she had Medicare Part B, the cost of that went up actually making the check she got in 2011 LESS by about $4.00.

Oh, and you can bet that if she lives in a blue state and owns a home, the cost of her property taxes have gone up.

So why don’t you address the real issue Romney was talking about? Like the people who live in housing projects that are not even responsible to pick up the trash they throw into the common yard, or the people I see buying lottery tickets with money from their EBT cards, or the women who are demanding the right for abortions but seem to continue having unwanted kids that they expect the rest of us to pick up the tab for? Why don’t you talk about the fraud that is rampant in SSDI, like the brother of a friend of mine who collects over $1,000/mo in SSDI payments but uses part of it to pay his entry fees in the roping contests he attends every weekend. Yeah, we all know that being disabled doesn’t prevent you from hooking up a horse trailer, loading a horse in that trailer, unloading the horse, putting the saddle on it and then climbing up on the back of the horse to try to rope a calf, right? Especially when that SSDI is based on back problems.

Or maybe he was talking about those who use April 15th as payday because they get an EIC that allows them to help support kids they should have never had because they couldn’t afford them.

But hey, you live in LaLaLand so I am sure you were not aware that 2012 is the first year that seniors got even a small increase in their SS checks since The Won has been in office, or that their Medicare Part B is continuing to cost them more since The Won has been in office. You haven’t been trained to think about what you are actually saying, only to parrot the DNC talking points.

Maybe Romney was just being nice and didn’t point out that those of us who pay taxes shouldn’t have to pick up the tab for some 30 year old broad’s birth control pills.

Ah. Failure to address the point, and distraction.

Greg, the recording is jumpy and cut up. That generally means manipulated footage. I didn’t hear anything devastating, nor factually incorrect. Nothing radical. Not on the order of writing off more than half the country as ignorant paranoid xenophobes who cling to guns and religion — a secretly recorded 2008 fundraiser, remember? Obama survived that gaffe because people made up their minds based on other considerations.

Romney refrained from saying the following true statement:

“The danger to America is not Barack Obama but a citizenry capable of entrusting a man like him with the presidency. It will be easier to limit and undo the follies of an Obama presidency than to restore the necessary common sense and good judgment to a depraved electorate willing to have such a man for their president. The problem is much deeper and far more serious than Mr. Obama, who is a mere symptom of what ails us. Blaming the prince of the fools should not blind anyone to the vast confederacy of fools that made him their prince. The republic can survive a Barack Obama, who is, after all, merely a fool. It is less likely to survive a multitude of fools such as those who made him their president.”

So he’s got that going for him. And the short attention span of most voters will not allow this recording to get the traction you are wishing for. Besides — people depending on government benefits had better hope for a Republican sweep. The economic disaster being crafted by the Democrats will guarantee that those benefits will be unsustainable. A Republican win means hope for solvency and a return of private sector jobs which are far superior to government benefits. What is anybody afraid of anyway? If Republicans had it in them to alter the basic social safety net deal, they would have done it a long time ago when they controlled the government. All they did was tweak it and that is what Ryan’s plan is proposing.

Tom, what tax rate does Romney pay?

The Middle East is erupting, China is boiling, our leaders are grovelling to islamofascists, our economy has stayed resolutely in the toilet for four years. Golf, football and fundraising occupy our President’s full attention, he’s out to lunch. And here are you guys standing in front of the disaster like Frank Drebin:

“Nothing to see here.”

This is about endless unemployment, food stamps, plus increasing welfare and disability enrollment by lowering the eligibility standards.

Really? Hmmm. See my simple 47%er brain would have thought that what this episode is about is Mitt Romney saying to rich Republican donors: the other side are uniformly a bunch of degenerates freeloading on the government, so it’s just morally wrong for you to pay a cent more than you absolutely have to in taxes, and if you financially and otherwise support me, ill make sure you pay a lot less. Let’s not forget now, God wanted us to be rich.

I especially liked the part about the huge barbed wire fences and guard towers necessary to keep people out, who would otherwise just slip inside and start working.

Is this what he had to tell himself, to rationalize what Bain was buying?

At the very least, this was the sort of worker environment that Bain was putting American workers in direct competition with. This is one way that costs can be cut to boost profits.

So far as I can tell, this continuous segment of the recording doesn’t appear to have been altered in any way. Both the video and audio are there. It looks as if the camera was somehow concealed atop a table.

Tom, what tax rate does Romney pay?

You do the math. Romney has already told you how much I pay in taxes. And i have told you I pay twice the rate he does. If it doesn’t add up, which variable do you suppose is more inaccurate?

@Tom:

If it doesn’t add up, which variable do you suppose is more inaccurate?

You, of course. Your non-answer is duly noted.

About 47% of the working age population pay no taxes. If you pay taxes then that 47% obviously does not include you. Yet, you claim it does include you, the better to take offense.

Romney pays something like 15% in Federal taxes. That is the long-term capital gains rate. This will be true of people who make most of their income from investments. He most likely donates a considerable amount of income as well. He gave away an inheritance when he was starting out – remember?

It’s amazing how easily the contempt for the other side flows from Romney. Well, in his defense, he did have to sell a lot of his stock to afford living expenses at Harvard Business School. So before you dismiss that contempt for 47% of us as misplaced, remember his humble background. His father was only a CEO and a governor, not a CEO, a governor and a movie star.

I admit that I have never given away an inheritance. No wonder Romney looks down on me.

@Tom:

It’s amazing how easily the contempt for the other side flows from Romney.

The audacious hypocrisy of that remark is remarkable. Take a look in the mirror. The Left is all about implacable contempt for its class enemies.

Say Tom, are you receiving government benefits?

@Tom:

I admit that I have never given away an inheritance. No wonder Romney looks down on me.

I don’t think he looks down on you. But if he did I wouldn’t blame him. I mean, I look down on you, and I only just started communicating with you. Whiny bitter paranoia is exceedingly unattractive.

No I am not. But i don’t have contempt for those who do, unlike Romney, a man running for President who basically admits he has no use for 47% of the population, a number that includes the most vulnerable and least powerful amongst us. An entitled bully without a scrap of empathy: sound familair, Sherm?

“Whiny bitter paranoia” – that’s pretty good, Sherm. I didn’t think you had it in you.

@Tom:

“Whiny bitter paranoia” – that’s pretty good, Sherm. I didn’t think you had it in you.

I don’t. You do.

I wish you would snap out of it and come over to the Dark Side. Abandon your country-wrecking Party of Good Intentions and Terrible Results. The nation can’t survive these bozos.

@VoteOutIncumbents: #7,

“. . . . an Obama win…things are going to get so bad over the next four years that it may finish the liberals for a generation.”

Envisioning the future is highly difficult, nevertheless, there are large road signs one can discern which are harbingers of what lays ahead. Regrettably, I’m not smelling good news. For the past year I’ve tried to work through different scenarios including the different possibilities in the event of an Obama win.

Your friend IMHO is right on one front – things would be bad, BUT they would be bad for a great deal longer than 4 years. In the first half of 2013 the consequence of burdens such as Obamacare’s costs kicking-in, the deficit, the growing debt, Bernanke providing free money to banks while continuing to kill those retiring with savings, etc., will launch a depression. Obama’s win will tell the world that out-of-control spending will accelerate with renewed flourish. Let’s remember what he whispered to Medvedev off-mike.

However, I seriously disagree with your friend that, “. . . the best that could happen is an Obama win”. It would be a disaster which the country would take a generation to recover from. Plus, the Progressive mindset is such that it is too self-righteous to ever believe that it could ever ‘screwed-up.’

Plus, Even if Romney wins, he won’t be able to do what is necessary. With only Negotiated Compromises between 2 parties he would only reduce the amount of the impact. Compromises are rarely THE RIGHT THING.

And then again, I could be right out to lunch and everything will be fine regardless who wins.

I’m still trying to figure out who this awful president is that Obama is running against.

@James Raider:

Plus, the Progressive mindset is such that it is too self-righteous to ever believe that it could ever ‘screwed-up.’

That is a key point, right there. Giving up on responsibility for oneself means never having to admit you were wrong.

@James Raider:

Compromises are rarely THE RIGHT THING.

Remind me the last time a compromise between the two parties was reached, that the Democrats didn’t back out on at the last minute. Like they always do when taxing verses cutting spending is discussed. GHWB fell victim to this. Reagan fell victim to this. Taxes would get raised, and when it came time to actually cut the spending, nothing happened.

I consider it part of my responsibility as President of the United States to fight against negative stereotypes of Islam wherever they appear.

…even if they are true.

@MataHarley: Aw but there is a plan the same plan the socialists have used in every election in living memory, the plan to scare the old, the infirm, and the downright stupid with stories of how the evil Republicans will turn them out into the street, laugh as they starve and celebrate as they die of diseases the all compassionate socialists could have treated (never cured mind you).

One thing you have to give the socialists; they are as constant as the northern star, unwavering in their willingness to sacrifice truth, justice and the American way to gain and keep power.

@MataHarley:

You sure about that? Perhaps we should take a closer look at the “47 percent” and see whether it’s the elderly and low income working families, or people on the dole who mainly comprise that number.

http://theagenda.nytimes.com/post/31758381202/a-closer-look-at-the-47-percent

“Forty-seven percent of Americans pay no income tax,” Mitt Romney said at a fund-raiser earlier this year, according to a video posted by Mother Jones.

The figure comes from the Tax Policy Center, which found that 46.4 percent of households paid no federal income tax in 2011.

But most households did pay payroll taxes. Of the 18.1 percent of households that paid neither income taxes or payroll taxes, the center found that more than half were elderly and more than a third were not elderly but had income under $20,000. Roberton Williams, a senior fellow at the center, wrote in a blog post last summer that about half of those were off the rolls because they had low incomes.

“For example, a couple with two children earning less than $26,400 will pay no federal income tax this year because their $11,600 standard deduction and four exemptions of $3,700 each reduce their taxable income to zero,” he wrote. “The basic structure of the income tax simply exempts subsistence levels of income from tax.”

A major reason that many poor people no longer pay federal income taxes is the Earned Income Tax Credit, which has long been supported by Republicans. The credit was added to the tax code when Gerald Ford was president, and was expanded by President Reagan in 1986 and by George H.W. Bush.

When President Reagan urged the passage of the 1986 tax overhaul, he said that ”millions of working poor will be completely dropped from the tax roles,” which he said would make the tax overhaul package ”one of the best anti-poverty programs this country has ever seen.”

So in case anyone is having trouble keeping up, 28.3% of Americans paid payroll tax in 2011 (i.e., they were employed) but not income tax. These are the majority of the people of whom Mitt Romney was speaking when he said millions of Americans: “are dependent upon government, who believe that they are victims, who believe the government has a responsibility to care for them, who believe that they are entitled to health care, to food, to housing, to you-name-it. That that’s an entitlement. And the government should give it to them….
[M]y job is is not to worry about those people. I’ll never convince them they should take personal responsibility and care for their lives.”

@Tom: Don’t feel picked on. Obama lumped Vets and almost everyone who opposes his policies in with terrorists. Remember the terrorist watch list that was leaked? He also referred to those of us who oppose his immigration policies as the enemy. Romney may look down on you, but Obama sees us as the enemy. The last two leaders who referred to Americans as the enemy went by the names of Osama and Saddam. I’m still waiting for his minion Hoffa to take us son-of-a-bitches out. I’d be more than happy to give him my address and let him try.

@another vet:

Don’t worry about me, I’ll be fine. After all, Mitt Romney just handed Obama the election.

@Tom:

That leaves about 30% who do pay payroll taxes but no Federal taxes. They can do their fair share.

[M]y job is is not to worry about those people. I’ll never convince them they should take personal responsibility and care for their lives.”

You and I both know that the job he was talking about was the job of trying to get their votes but you are no less dishonest than David Corn.

Which is why I so loathe liberals.

@MataHarley: You might glance as such articles as the one from which the following quote was taken:
” So who are the 49 percent of Americans who don’t pay income taxes? The vast majority are the lowest income households (less that $26,000 per year for a family of four), the elderly and young working families with children.” [The quote fails to mention such categories as disabled people.] http://money.howstuffworks.com/only-53-percent-pay-income-tax.htm

@drjohn:

Was I just called dishonest by a pathological liar? By a guy whose only identifiable skill is a negligible ability to photo-shop Obama’s head? By a guy who’s a veritable laughing stock even on his own site? Wonders never cease.

@Tom: That means some of my gun collection I’ve been trying to sell off will probably finally sell and at a higher price as there will be a big rush on gun purchases.

At least I won’t be responsible for the consequences to our country should he be re-elected.

@another vet:

So who are you implying will be shooting whom? We heard all this back in 08, the Red Dawn fantasies. So if you can’t win by the rules, it’s time to run around in the woods and kill some Democrats? I know you’re better than that. I suggest you focus that energy on building a party that has national appeal and compelling ideas.

Let’s take a look at Tom’s poor family of four. I rounded it off to $24K/year for a $2,000/month income and placed that family of four in Travis County (Austin), Texas for state/federal assistance programs. Here is what I found:

the family is eligible for:

$668/month in food stamps (applied to the Lone Star card, an EBT card)
$324/month in TANF (cash, also applied to the Lone Star card)
Section 8 vouchers or actual public housing valued at $954/month.
CHIP, which also covers the parents at a cost of $50/year that gives doctor visits and perscription drugs at a cost of $3-10.00.
WIC

So let’s add that all together and you get in-kind income for that family of four whose AGI is $24K and their income just went up by $23,352 not counting the CHIP benefits, or the fact that if they live in a public housing complex, and not a Section 8 housing project, the utilities are also free. This does not include the check they will receive from the IRS for $5,236.00 in EIC credits for a family with 2 qualifying children, since their AGI will be zero.

The beauty part of the Lone Star card (as with many other states) is that it can be used for many other things, such as furniture, which would include large screen TVs, obtaining cash to buy lottery tickets, beer, cigarettes, pay for cable TV, etc. Tom’s family would also be eligible for Obama’s free cell phone program.

Now their income is equal to a family of four that earns $52,588/yr and who pays at least 10% in taxes on their AGI which would be approx. $2,600 in federal income taxes while the family of four making that much due to in-kind income pays nothing. Also, the family of four earning $52,588 has less disposable income as the welfare family because they have to pay rent, purchase groceries, pay utility/cell phone bills, pay for insurance for their children.

Tom is the typical liberal who loves to point to the poor that other taxpayers are supposed to support, but will never mention that it basically pays to be a low wage earner due to in-kind contributions (income) that is NOT taxed.

@Tom:

By a guy who’s a veritable laughing stock even on his own site?

Doing pretty well though, huh?

@Tom: My first and second comments were meant to be independent of themselves. The first, which was tongue in cheek, being that for me the only good coming out of his re-election, should it happen, is that I will make some $$ on the deal. Gun sales skyrocketed under Obama. He was named ‘gun salesman’ of the year last year. People don’t trust him with the Second Amendment. I’ve always been a firearms person regardless of who has been in office. Obviously I’d much rather see him not be re-elected.

The second comment means that another 4 years of his policies and we are essentially finished. There is no way we can sustain his $1.2 trillion dollar deficits. It’ll bankrupt the country. Any sane person realizes this. We’ll find out in a month and a half how serious people are about trying to fix it or at least make an attempt at fixing it. Even the Romney/Ryan plan falls short of fixing the problem. His disregard for our laws and Constitution are also very troubling.

As for building the party, if you look at where people in this country stand on the issues it is much more in line with the Republican Party that the Democrats. The problem is that the ‘R’s are atrocious at getting their message out. Their nickname as “the stupid party” is well deserved. The Dems are way too far to the left. I used to split my ticket up until ’04 when they embraced the anti-war movement. I didn’t appreciate being stabbed in the back. As it stands now, I’ll probably never vote for another one in my lifetime unless they have a major enema and purge themselves of the lefties. If the ‘R’s blow this election, I will probably go back to voting Libertarian.

@retire05: This is an old conservative line about knowing somebody that knows somebody who fraudulently receives welfare, or some such other government assistance.

I remember when I was younger, and watching an episode of the Jerry Springer show which had some homeless people and some ‘regular’ people on to antagonize one another. One of the ‘regular people’ verbally attacked one of the ‘homeless people’ for wearing a pair of Nike shoes—she said, “I can’t even afford Nikes”. My thoughts at the time, “I would not like to be homeless for a pair of Nikes”—even if they do make $50,000 a year (another example of conservative folklore).

Why do conservatives pick on families with annual income of less than $25,000 and others who make less the $20,000 per year—when so many are more capable of paying?

“The data also show that among those with an income over $200,000, many paid relatively low tax rates: 3.3 percent paid less than 10 percent, 10 percent paid 10 to 15 percent, 37.2 percent paid 15 to 20 percent, 30.4 percent paid 20 to 25 percent and 16.7 percent paid 25 to 30 percent. Just 2.4 percent paid more than 30 percent.”

Possible answer: It’s easy to blame the poorest section of society—least able to defend themselves—than to take the focus off the real problems.

The more we rely on yarns, urban legends, and hyperbole—which represent the bulk of your comment— instead of facts, the more we see a distortion of reality.

@another vet:

Tom is the typical DNC parrot. The poor, the poor, the poor, yada, yada. Yet, studies have shown that the “poor” (meaning low income) lives better in this nation than the average middle class European did before the melt down in Europe. They are not honest enough to admit that most millionaires in the nation are first generation money (meaning they did not inherit their wealth like Ted Kennedy or marry it like John Kerry). And they are really less interested in helping the poor than they are in punishing even those liberals like Mark Cuban who made fortunes by their own endeavors.

Yes, Obama had done wonders for the fire arms industry. Smith and Wesson just announced record profits, with the next quarter being predicted to be better than the last quarter. In parts of the nation, buying ammunition is getting difficult due to availability because people are buying it faster than Remington can make it.

Let’s see if Tom has the cajones to address my post about how bad off “poor” people with an annual income of $24,000/year are. I doubt he will. Liberals suck at debating hard facts.

@Tom:

You have no place calling anyone a liar. You’ve shown you will say and do anything to protect the left. You are little more than subhuman garbage.
And since reading comprehension isn’t your stromg suit, Another Vet said he would be able to sell his guns-that’s it. Just because you and your ilk would rise up to overthrow our govt. when you lose doesn’t mean we would.
