In February the Fiqh Council of North America issued a fatwa that decided going though airport screening scanners would violate Islamic privacy rules.
“It is a violation of clear Islamic teachings that men or women be seen naked by other men and women,” reads the fatwa issued Tuesday. “Islam highly emphasises haya (modesty) and considers it part of faith. The Quran has commanded the believers, both men and women, to cover their private parts.”
The TSA assured us of the safety and privacy of the operation:
“TSA’s use of these technologies includes strong protections in place to safeguard passenger privacy. Screening images are automatically deleted, and the officer viewing the image will never see the passenger.”
Safeguard your privacy? Have a look and make up your own mind.
But hey, said Janet Napolitano, these machines don’t have the ability to store these images.
As sure as the sun rises in the morning, the adminstration lied to us once again:
For the last few years, federal agencies have defended body scanning by insisting that all images will be discarded as soon as they’re viewed. The Transportation Security Administration claimed last summer, for instance, that “scanned images cannot be stored or recorded.”
Now it turns out that some police agencies are storing the controversial images after all. The U.S. Marshals Service admitted this week that it had surreptitiously saved tens of thousands of images recorded with a millimeter wave system at the security checkpoint of a single Florida courthouse.
Within a month of the issue of the fatwa two incidents occurred:
A delegation from a “tribal region” of Pakistan (that’s pahkeestan for you Obama acolytes) refused to submit to body scanners and went home without completing their travel plans.
Then two Muslim women were refused boarding of a Pakistan-bound flight.
The usual procedure for those refusing the body scanner is to go through a metal detector and a body pat-down if one sets off the alarm.
But only for the kuffar.
In perhaps one of the greatest ironies of our time, Muslims are likely to receive exemption to these rules.
CAIR has recommended that Muslims not be subject to body scanners:
CAIR said Muslims who object to full-body scans for religious reasons should know their rights if they are required to undergo a pat-down, including asking for the procedure to be done in a private place. In addition, CAIR offered a “special recommendation” for Muslim women who wear a hijab, telling them they should tell the TSA officer that they may be searched only around the head and neck.
That’s right- Muslim women are going to demand even more special treatment:
In the “special recommendations for Muslim women who wear hijab,” it states: “Before you are patted down, you should remind the TSA officer that they are only supposed to pat down the area in question, in this scenario, your head and neck. They SHOULD NOT subject you to a full-body or partial-body pat-down.”
It also states: “Instead of the pat-down, you can always request to pat down your own scarf, including head and neck area, and have the officers perform a chemical swipe of your hands.”
As for the rest of us, Janet Napolitano has let it be known that we can expect our liberties to be infringed in the name of her stature.

The full body scanners are a response to the use of PETN, which magnetometers cannot detect. PETN was the explosive of choice for Richard Reid and Umar Abdulmutallab. The problem is that even these scanners won’t find PETN if it is inserted into the rectum of an adult or a child.

And there is more. A young Asian man was able to travel in the guise of an old man by wearing a well constructed silicone mask. So the terrible scenario becomes painfully clear. Imagine the next Mohammed Atta wearing a silicone mask making him appear to be a Muslim woman, wearing a hijab, loaded with PETN on his body and immune to a body scan or a full body pat-down.

I am a frequent traveler and I have noticed that screenings have become more and more invasive. And they have become astonishingly stupid. The agents always say “I have to tell you that if the wand alarm goes off I have to pat the area down.” I have an artificial left knee, it being replaced three years ago. Sure enough, my knee set off the metal detector and the guy wanded me. He waved the wand over the front of my knee and it beeped. And he patted my knee down. Then he wanded the back of ny knee and it beeped and he patted my knee down. Then he wanded both the inside and outside of my knee and it beeped over both areas and he patted down my knee on both sides.
I was wearing shorts. I have a five inch scar over the front of my knee and he patted it down repeatedly.
This is your tax money at work. I feel really safe with this sort of intelligence on my side. Again, no matter what the technique, it is going to be a Muslim who commits the act. Al Qaida is not about to take a Catholic, Baptist or a Jew into its confidence and train him or her how to be a suicide bomber. Only one “religion” promises afterlife rewards for blowing yourself up. I thought of a couple of solutions for TSA screenings/pat downs.
1. Instead of expensive screening machines, everybody just drops their pants at the check points…Now I know what you’re thinking, some of the people at the airport you don’t want to see them with their pants off, problem will eventually resolve itself when TSA agents all end up with scarred retinas…
2. Pat downs by Victorias Secrets models, or the equivalent of, in the appropriate attire. The line for that security check would be long but I don’t think too many guys would object and would defintely get them to the airport early for that….
Flying is not a right…. no screening, no pat down…. take a Greyhound bus… oh wait… that’s an unclean “dog”… I suppose they’d insist on Trailways only.

The decline of morality . . . a solider today can be prosecuted for crimes against humanity . . . yet everyday they are “ordered” to be in the most dangerous, emotionally irrational conditions, imaginable. Millions of travelers are each day subjected to “moral assualt” . . . the realization that YOU have been assulted on occurs “AFTER” the pat down. I say this from EXPERIENCE!
The pat down process is “thorough” . . . and there in lies the differentiation between “routine” and “assult”. This differentiation is a very personally based perspective. To some the mere act of “looking” (without touch) is reason enough to become extremely uncomfortable or embarrased. Some people will flinch at the mere touch of another person or will tighten up and become very ridgid (I have this reaction), this is perhaps due to a violation of their “space”. Some will experience the instinctive reaction to flea and actually back away. Myself, it is a “duration” or time based reaction. I have been patted down by the cursory and then by the “exubanent”. I have had the unpleasant experience of “seeing the look in the eye” of the a TSA employee that was truly sadistic . . . it was a long lasting, emotionally tramatic event. I was uncomfortable for many hours after the experience. I have been “challenged” by the demeanor and by “words” spoken to me. Yes, I have registered complaints to the “officer in charge” of the offensive individuals.

I hate to even say it . . . but the TSA is highly “equal opportunity” . . . a racist perspective? I would hope not . . . but there is a tendency of racial harassment. I have “wished” that should I chose to have a “pat down” that I could “choose” the individual that would do the pat down . . . does this make rational logical sense? Why not have an area designated for pat downs with a number of individuals stationed at the pat down area, allow me the option of WHO does my pat down.

I was patted down at JFK last Wednesday. Here is the back ground. I am a 75 year old male. On October 23, I boarded Silversea’s Silver Spirit for a transatlantic cruise. As the ship was cruising to the island of Tenerife, I was taken to the ship’s infirmary and diagnosed having bronchial pneumonia. Since the ship was then crossing the Atlantic after Tenerife, I was taken off the ship and spent 14 days in the hospital on Tenerife.
Last Wednesday, I was repatriated home via a medical ambulance jet to Madrid with a doctor and nurse aboard, then from Madrid to JFK with a nurse. Since I was being taken to San Francisco, after clearing immigration at JFK you have to go through security again. I was in a wheel chair with a nurse and when we taken up to the metal detector, I told the TSA agent that I was ambulatory, however, he gave me no choice, and motioned the person pushing the wheel chair to an open area just left of the X-ray machines and lines in full view of everyone going through security.
Then this individual came over and used little round swatches and rubbed them on my portable oxygen concentrator and put them in a machine which signaled “Pass”. Not once, not twice, but three times. Then he announced in a very loud voice that he was going to pat me down – palm down for all areas but my genital area and rear end, “with the back of my hand”. My nurse was not with me,and was not allowed in this area. Then this individual ordered me to get out of the wheel chair and stand up, and he started patting me down. However as he did it, he kept talking in a loud voice “patting down”, and when he came to the sensitive areas he announced in a loud voice “the back of my hand”. All of this in full view of every person going through Security. The entire process took almost 30 minutes.
Am a Catholic, and am not aware of any Catholic suicide bombers, the same for Jews, etc. The only suicide bombers that I am aware of are muslims. I believe in profiling. three year old children and 75 year old seniors do not meet the profile of suicide bombers, but muslims do, and are going to be given special treatment by TSA – spare me. Thank god for the last election results.

If you had the option of boarding one of two planes–one filled with screened strangers and the other with unscreened strangers–which would you feel safer choosing?
I’d just as soon not be blown up because of someone else’s obsession with modesty. After looking at scans of random passengers day in and day out, I imagine most security personnel get pretty clinical about the entire business.
