Sounds like a hell of a gunfight, and because of one nutcase one man died….
A gunman upset over losing his Social Security benefits case, opened fire in the lobby of a federal building in downtown Las Vegas on Monday, killing a court officer and wounding a deputy U.S. marshal before he was shot to death.
Two officials, speaking on condition of anonymity, because they were not authorized to discuss the case, identified the shooter as Johnny Lee Wicks to the Associated Press.
While an investigation is under way, the officials say the early evidence points to the man’s anger over his benefits as motive for the shooting.
Court records shoe Wicks sued the Social security Administration in 2008, but the case was thrown out and formally closed in September 2009.

None of the stories say.. what was the nature of his suit??? Was he denied ANY Social Security?? Was he trying to “milk the cow”???? NEITHER is an excuse to do what he did, I just would like to know what the “trigger” was…..

Monday was an interesting day for Vegas. We are really starting the year off right, NOT!
This is one of them, where two people died and one was injured. The shooter and a retired LVMPD who was working as a security guard contracted to the U.S. Marshals. Neighbors of the shooter say “he hated white people”.

Why in the hell would you block off an ENTIRE neighborhood for two people with a knife? I guess they had the officers out gunned.
Its called a containment. They were inside a block radius and they shut down that area to search for them. If they were to let any side of that containment go then the suspects could escape out of that side without the police even knowing. Having a knife or a gun has nothing to do with it.
Besides, within it’s range a knife is VERY deadly. I’d rather get shot then stabbed.
