Which in this case is also the failure of progressivism:
Are We Witnessing the Collapse of Liberalism?
By J. Robert Smith
American ThinkerLess than a year into his presidency, Barack Obama’s world grows bleaker. Liberalism’s world is bleaker. At home and abroad, liberalism, as advanced by the President, is failing. Are we witnessing the beginnings of another historic event, loosely comparable to the fall of communism twenty years ago? Now the fall of liberalism?
Remember, at the beginning of the 1980s, no one would have predicted that by the decade’s close the Berlin Wall would fall, communism would be discredited and the Soviet Union would be less than a couple of years away from dissolution.
Though no conservative worth his salt is surprised by liberalism’s shortcomings, the rapidity of its failure is surprising. More importantly, it’s alarming, for though the effects of liberalism’s failure are damaging to us at home, they may prove terrible to us abroad.
Better the corpse be laid to rest than allowed to continue shambling about.
I have many friends who voted for Obama who are now seething with rage. They’ve been had, swindled, bamboozled, hoodwinked, screwed and just plain lied to, and they know it.
They are not happy about it.
Pick an issue and the Dems and Obama have failed. Every bill that’s been proposed since January is opposed by a majority of Americans, yet our Congresscritters are determined to ram them down our throats anyway. Their epic failure with the economy is just the tip of the iceberg.
We Americans are a feisty bunch. We can manage our affairs on our own, thank you. We don’t take kindly to a group of out-of-touch politicians who want to control our lives and steal our wallets. And we don’t like to be lied to. Obama and his Democrat cronies have shown more disdain and disrespect for their fellow countrymen than any other in recent history.
We gave socialism a chance. It failed as it always has.
Sometimes we need to find out what doesn’t work.
BackwardsBoy,
The failure is not limited to domestic liberalism and progressivism, it’s a global phenomenon at this point.
Rodney, I agree. Freedom works better than any other principle of government. Like the famous rising tide that lifts all boats, freedom lifts all of mankind up from squalor and promotes the best that is in human nature. Fortunately, Europe is beginning to move to the right as they recognize the abject failure of socialism, so perhaps this infatuation will soon go the way of the Pet Rock: cute, good for a laugh and trendy at the time, but ultimately good for nothing.
