Civilian deaths in US airstrike overshadow Obama’s Afghan summit

As one Flopping Aces commenter put it, this is “Real leadership”

Up to 100 civilians, including women and children, are reported to have been killed in Afghanistan in potentially the single deadliest US airstrike since 2001. The news overshadowed a crucial first summit between the Afghan President and Barack Obama in Washington yesterday.

The one-hour bombardment of two villages in western Afghanistan near Iran, aimed at Taleban militants fighting Afghan troops, left “dozens” of bodies scattered amid the rubble, according to the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC).

Hillary Clinton, the US Secretary of State, sitting next to President Karzai during a joint press conference in Washington, expressed “deep regret” for the bombings and announced a joint US-Afghan investigation.

See, by saying “deep regret” things will go a lot easier at the summit. Right?

I’m not complaining. I just…I can’t help but think I HAVE heard someone else complain about this kinda thing, AND I think they promised to do something different….

So Barry… it isn’t as easy when you do it is it? I’m sure everyone will understand that it was just an accident. Could be, you may have to answer to some jury after your term is over… Always a fond hope of mine! Yo may have to start thinking a bit more kindly about Citizen George Bush now that you’ve joined the club!

Serves O’Dumbo and the dimwits right. They have refused for years to admit that all terrorists walk around as civilians. According to the democrats retards GI’s are supposed to check each persons ID before shooting them. Spain can now add O’Dumbo to their list for trial and to be shot for fighting a war.

Jeebus…you guys are douchebags.

Let’s not forget that some of these so called civillians are sympathizers who are with them at these locations voluntarily.
Also, in some cases they deliberately force innocents to stay with them in order to discourage air strikes against them.

Has Code Pink demanded we start impeachment proceedings for Obama and his war crimes yet?

This sure sounds like a war crime, doesn’t it? It needs to be investigated by the next Republican President. Obama ought to be tried and convicted.

For premeditated hypocrisy, if nothing else.

Partisan politics aside, regardless of WHO is President…can you imagine having a summit w the Pakistani leaders just days after bombing 2 villages w Predator drone attacks (attacks that have fueled the Taliban rebellion in their country), AND just days after a US airstrike on 2 villages in Afghanistan killed 100+ civilians meeting with that country’s leaders as well? Omg….talk about awkward! This makes those “did Michelle Obama touch the queen” breaches of protocol seem completely stupid!

So scott, you actually think that without the attacks by us that the taliban would just sit back and behave? You know who the taliban are, right?

No Hard Right. I’m familiar w the Taliban & I don’t think the US should stop attacking them. I do think that Obama owes President Bush one apology for every time he made his seditious campaign comment shown in the vid above.

Lol ok. I thought I was misunderstanding you.

New US battle rule: No fighting near Afghan homes…..AP Story
Gen. Stanley McChrystal, who took command of international forces in Afghanistan this month, has said his measure of effectiveness will be the “number of Afghans shielded from violence,” and not the number of militants killed.

McChrystal will issue orders within days saying troops may attack insurgents hiding in Afghan houses if the U.S. or NATO forces are in imminent danger and must return fire, said U.S. military spokesman Rear Adm. Greg Smith.

And now we know how Obama plans to address the problem of “civilian deaths”. The issue that I don’t see being discussed is:
The opposite of soldier is civilian. The detainees at Gitmo were not soldiers, therefore they were civilians. However, they were civilians fighting as soldiers, therefore they are illegal combatants.

How do we know whether the civilians being killed are civilians or illegal combatants. Futhermore, even if they are civilians, how do we know if they are “innocent”? My half-platoon was hit more than 7 times by IEDs and not once were those IEDs placed without the knowledge of the locals…….. If someone knows about a plan to kill another person and take no action to stop the event, then they are no longer innocent and have become an accessory.

Therefore, I ask: Whom does the “Special Forces” General want to save? “Civilians” or innocent Afghans who are working with the Afghan government and the Coalition to expell the Taliban and its supporters?
