Specter: Kemp Would Still Be Alive If The GOP Had Spent More On Cancer Research

Loading

What a complete and utter jackass!

Transcript:

“Well, I was sorry to disappoint many people. Frankly, I was disappointed that the Republican Party didn’t want me as their candidate,” Mr. Specter said on CBS’s “Face the Nation.” “But as a matter of principle, I’m becoming much more comfortable with the Democrats’ approach. And one of the items that I’m working on, Bob, is funding for medical research.”

Mr. Specter continued: “If we had pursued what President Nixon declared in 1970 as the war on cancer, we would have cured many strains. I think Jack Kemp would be alive today. And that research has saved or prolonged many lives, including mine.”

Mr. Kemp passed away Saturday, after fighting with cancer. Mr. Kemp ran for the White House in 1996 with Republican presidential candidate Bob Dole.

Uhhhh, check it out you liberal…2001 3.75 billion went to NCI, 2006 4.75 billion was spent. Quite an increase. During GOP control of Congress in the 90’s the budget increased by close to 50%. For 2009 4.83 billion is being spent….quite an increase! And for FY2010?

4.81 billion.

Puhlease.

Fact is there have been advances and one of the reasons Specter may have survived his own bout with Hodgkin’s disease but now he is with the party that is proposing a DECREASE in the federal budget to cancer research.

UPDATE

Ed Morrissey:

It’s also a grotesque lie. During Republican control of Congress, federal spending on health research and regulation increased 46% after inflation, from $49 billion a year to $72 billion a year, or about 7% increase each year. That’s almost the same rate of increase as Defense spending got in the same period (48%), when we actually had a real war on our hands, and not a political contrivance for excusing federal spending.

And Specter wonders why he can’t get within 20 points of Pat Toomey in a primary race?

I was disappointed that the Republican Party didn’t want me as their candidate

cry baby

and didn’t he have cancer and have American doctors cured him?

So if we have made advances in this since then, is he saying that the Democrats somehow Killed Kemp

Sadly, Arlen could have been cured with TERM LIMITS but he drags on as living proof that stupidity is his life-long affliction.

Wow….a “Christopher Reeves would be walking today” moment….

I think he’s fitting in rather nicely with his like-minded counterparts.

What an insult to the memory of Jack Kemp and to his family.

Jack Kemp was a conservative first, second and last.

Specter should be ashamed.

What a typical Democrat he is.

Such a low class ass.

Gee… I guess if the PA GOP so obviously didn’t want Specter, that belies the DNC talking point that the Republican Party must become Democrat-lite to survive. Been there, done that with McCain. That pig don’t fly.

Other than that, I agree with Mike. To make such invalid accusations based on Congressional spending to score political points is not only an insult to Kemp’s family, it’s morally reprehensible.

Obviously Specter has “gone home” to where he belongs. I repeat what I said when first hearing the news last Tuesday…

buh bye.

I can only add, don’t let the saloon door hit your butt on the way out.

Hey Mike, Specter has no principles, no shame, no core values and the morals of a pack of wolves.
Both my Father & Mother succumbed to cancer and it is a painful & horrible demise but despite having witnessed all of that pin & suffering, it reinforces that old addage that “only the good die young”.

Jack Kemp was a man of conscience, values, principles and courage both on the field and in his service to the nation in his years Congress. Arlen Specter is a self serving weasel that values the power of Office over stewardship of the public trust that is a duty of Public Office.

I cannot find the words to properly honor Jack Kemp, however, I do have some words for Arlen Specter that I will with hold here out of respect for my values and the sensitivities of some of the readers here.

Conservative should not mourn the loss of Specter to the Socialist party, he was just following and serving his personal “needs”. We can mourn the loss of Jack Kemp, a man that placed the good of the Nation above self and served America’s needs.

Just my 2 cents worth.

Look, this is clearly the Republicans fault.

But, it’s certainly not irretreivable at this point.

Surely, their is ample time to freeze Kemp? At best when a GOP Prez has found a cure for this type of cancer, we get Kemp back alive. At worst? he joins zombie Walt Disney and zombie Ted Williams when Cheney creates his legion of un-dead, right?

So, is that his Professional Medical opinion or his Political opinion?

I would like to see his medical credentials that support this medical opinion.

The GOP didn’t come up with the money because they were busy getting rid of the cancer they had in the GOP. It was Specter Cancer and it is terminal. It attacks the spine and removes it, and Specter Cancer cuts off all mental capacity of ethics, common sense, and duty.

Jack Kemp was a conservative first, second and last.

If Kemp had still been active in politics these days, guys like you would have accused him of being a RINO for being pro-affirmative action.

So, Laddy, your point is?

“If Kemp had still been active in politics these days, guys like you would have accused him of being a RINO for being pro-affirmative action.”

Under the 14th Amendment. affirmative action is not necessary.
Affirmative Action is Racist and Discriminatory.
Read it.

As someone who lost a parent to cancer, I find Specter’s words completely disgusting. Using victims of cancer to score political points? Where does that filthy, abhorrent, worthless excuse for a human being get off?! I look forward to voting against that piece of crap in 2010. And if I ever meet the scum face-to-face, I’ll gladly tell him off.

Freedom Eden:

When Republican Jim Jeffords became a Democrat in 2001, giving the Dems majority status in the Senate, Arlen Specter condemned him.

Peter Nicholas:

When a Senate Republican left his party in 2001, elevating the Democrats to majority status, one member of the GOP was especially vocal about his displeasure: Arlen Specter.

Specter said then- Vermont Sen. Jim Jeffords’ decision to become an independent was disruptive to the functioning of Congress. He proposed a rule forbidding party switches that had the effect of vaulting the minority to majority status in the middle of a congressional session.

“If somebody wants to change parties, they can do that,” Specter said at the time. “But that kind of instability is not good for governance of the country and the Senate.”

See it, this is clearly the Republicans fault.

But, it’s certainly not irretreivable at this point.
