Thanks for your kind words Mike and what an excellent round-up of all the Tea Parties!!

Best roundup I’ve seen.
Great photographs and the creativity in every one of those individually created billboards is terrific.
Maybe it’s none of my business, as an Australian, but seeing all the smiley, happy, beautiful people on the streets of the U.S.A. fighting for freedom I just gotta say:

God bless America 🙂

Go america!!!
Get rid of the marxist jackass Obama!!!

Republicans lost control of Congress to Democrats in 2006 for two reasons: Dems promised to spend less, and Dems promised to end the war in Iraq (again, that was 3yrs ago). Yeah, Pelosi also promised to get Bin Laden, to cut the price of gas, to investigate Bush, and so forth, but those were the two biggest reasons. Does anyone-ANYONE-think that Democrats can hold Congress 18 months from now? Perhaps those who mock the tea parties as idiotic teabagging have already forgotten the lies and broken promises of 2006?

@Dee:

Good job on that speech, you have gumption gal, glad to have you on our side.

Nice recap of the day Mike! Last number I saw was over 300,000, we should also consider the blogs that were supporting this event, some live blogging was going on, it’s a real good start.

@Missy:

The numbers from SurgeUSA.org are indicating possibly 1 million.

The Dinosaur Media remains conspicuously silent.

@Aye Chihuahua:

That makes me happy! Thanks Aye.

We should be forwarding those figures to every member of Congress.

Five and a half months too late guys… Even though I mock, it is good to see people peaceably participating and actually showing interest in what happens. Too bad they are so misguided they don’t even acknowledge Obama just signed one of the largest tax cuts in American history…

BTW Aye: 1 million= 0.3% of the American population. There are probably more actual “teabaggers” out there than “FNC Tea Party” protestors.

@Fit fit:

Obama just signed one of the largest tax cuts in American history…

Tax cut? It’s a temporary rebate designed to get people putting between $8 to $14 per week back into the economy, drops down by half next year and phases out by June(if I’m remembering it right) of 2010. Poof, there goes the “tax cut.”

It’s the same thing that failed during the summer of 2008 with the lump sum rebate. I think it’s the same amount per person except it’s reaching out to people that don’t pay taxes aka, income redistribution.

Better save it, gas is going up and pensions will be taking another hit.

… I think the biggest thing to come out of the tea parties is the new found conservative friends I didn’t know I had. Conservatives are coming out of closet nationwide and connecting with the movement. This is huge.

@Fit fit:

Five and a half months too late guys…

As demonstrated in oh, 1773-1775, speaking out and resisting tyrannical, oppressive, out of control government action is never “too late”.

Too bad they are so misguided they don’t even acknowledge Obama just signed one of the largest tax cuts in American history…

That’s funny. Really funny.

On average, most taxpayers will see an additional $7.70 per week. Don’t spend it all in one place.

The sleight of hand you’re not seeing is that while withholding tables have been reduced, the actual tax tables, the ones used for April 15 calculations, have NOT changed.

What does that mean you ask? That means that you may very well get, and splurge with, that extra $7.70 per week, but when you sit down to calculate your taxes for next year nothing has changed and suddenly you’re paying that money back to your Uncle.

In addition, the Bush tax cuts are set to expire. Obama plans to do nothing to extend them. Tax cuts expiring = increased taxes and that affects EVERY taxpayer no matter how much the “tax cuts for the rich” meme is bandied about.

These protests had less to do with taxes, however, than they did with out of control spending, soaring debt, and an unresponsive government.

This is just the beginning Fit fit. The reaction from the Left is very telling. If the threat were no big deal, no threat, then mockery or condecension would be unwarranted.

Your reaction tells the story.

BTW Aye: 1 million= 0.3% of the American population. There are probably more actual “teabaggers” out there than “FNC Tea Party” protestors.

The basis of your statement here is that everyone who agrees was actually able to show up.

On a Wednesday.

During working hours.

Not everyone who agrees will attend an event for a variety of reasons.

Obviously.

How do you even function in the real world?

“teabaggers”

Why do so many of your posts include sexual references of some nature?

Do you have deep seated emotional issues resulting from a lack of breastfeeding as a babe in arms?

Perhaps you experienced ridicule for a tragic bed wetting incident at summer camp?

@GaffaUK:

Please show me the articles that note the levels of turnout across the country as an aggregate.

Please show me the articles that talk about a confirmed 400,000 to 480,000 participants overall (Those figures result from 260 of the 763 party locations.)

The total is guaranteed to rise, perhaps to as much as 1 Million.

Where’s that news being reported?

Show me what the New York Times, supposedly the preeminent newspaper of record, had to say on April 16th.

Show me.

As I said, silence.

I couldnt attend due to my work being unable to let me off for the day and my lunch began as the one in Lousiville ended.

I believe both Bush and Obama both asked for larger, permanent tax cuts instead of what they got. Sometimes you have to take what Congress is able to deliver… Besides there were lots of other tax breaks included in the ARRA.

Obviously not everybody attended that wanted to. I’ll spot you your heavily inflated 1 million figure and multiply by 100. 30% of the American population. Not enough for a peaceful democratic revolution. Looks like you need to go to Plan B. I can point you to some real extremist’s websites if you like.

@Mike_W: @sigmundringeck:

Thanks guys! That means a lot for folks who are not even U.S. citizens to be cheering us on.

@Aleric: There are millions more like you who wanted to attend but had to work. Interesting to note that the Fox News channel had one of it’s biggest nights of viewership EVER. The audience dwarfed that of all other cable news channels COMBINED. Millions who couldn’t attend the Tea Parties in person joined in spirit.

Just has to jot down another Tea Party held In Fresno, CA which grabbed of 7500 people.

http://centralvalleyteaparty.com/index.php?id=97

I was one of those people that wanted to go but had to work.

I, for one, take real offense at some comments.

I see no reason for a leftist comment using the words “teabagger” or “teabagging” as a derogative to last a second longer than it takes for any moderator to read it. IMHO, no matter the tenure of the commenter, a permanent ban should be considered for that person.

And for any leftist who chooses to express his amusement at our tea party movement in a condescending tone, my personal response is to spit in your smug face.

I, for one, take offense at spitting. It spreads hepatitis.

Well, Good, Fit! My intent was to return the offense!! Glad it worked!

Jeez – lighten’ up. There is much amusement to be taken from this. The tea Protest have legit concerns but not everyone is going to agree – and naturally the opposition will attempt to belittle it etc. You know the same thing happens vice versa. The right and left does it all the time. However you seem to have a humour by-pass. Why not call for ban on all humour and satire? Yet your response borders on violence.

CNN’s Anderson Cooper helpfully observed that “it’s hard to talk when you’re teabagging

http://politicalhumor.about.com/b/2009/04/16/teabagging-humor-roundup.htm

@GaffaUK: Apparently you are not up on the definition of “tea bagger.”

@DaNang67: I agree that we let too much of this stuff just float on by. I encourage you to forward your remarks to Curt at the email link above. Perhaps we should revisit our rather lax commenting policy.

I missed the above reference and of course now Gaffa is repeating it at every opportunity so the cat is out of the bag.

But think of this as a teaching moment and remember it next time some lefty demands we show Obama respect or complains about name calling. These folks have poisoned the well of civil political discourse.

@Mike

I agree insomuch either this blog has name calling or not.
As for definition of tea bagging – check out number 6…

[REFERENCE REMOVED BY POST MODERATOR]

I’m not sure where this practice gained popularity – is an american frat thing? Although I had heard about the term a while back in regards to online videogames (see number 4 on the link above).

The New “Flopping Aces” Ranger Up T-Shirt Launched!

Shock. Horror – a teabag and a sexual reference!

Anyway back to the Tea Protests – I wonder if a teabag is enough. Seems a bit civilised and not very dramatic to bring tea bags to a rally. Those at Boston Tea Party threw crates of tea into the docks which is more dramatic. I wonder if they complained about of the lack of attention they were getting from the MSM media immediately after the stunt? Also the Tea Protest seems somewhat unfocused – kind of like the G20 protestors – as it seems to attract a lot of various complaints rather than a focused message. Whereas the Boston Tea Party, as I understand it – complaining about being taxed without representation.

@GaffaUK: As usual, you get your information from biased “news” sources. If you had attended a Tea Party you might have a better understanding of what motivates these people.

P.S. I really don’t think we need any more sophomoric references to teabagging. Do I need to start deleting comments????

@Mike

Any news sources you recommend I read which are not bias? It would be great to attend a Tea party but alas I won’t be in the US for a while.

@GaffaUK: There’s no such thing as an unbiased news source. You seem to prefer news sources which fit your prejudices. Hence your distorted view of the tea parties, Sarah Palin and conservatives in general.

@Mike

So we all get our news from biased media then. I’ve tried watching Fox but it’s too hysterical for me. I prefer BBC. Of course they get accused of being lefty but they seem closer to being impartial than the US MSM. Not quite sure what to make of the Aussie media as of yet. Of course I am exposed to views here – and I’m not completely anti-conservative as I’m planning to vote David Cameron next time at the UK election – to give Gordon the boot.
