Happy New Year! Jan 2 Democratic Party Already Splitting

Loading

The 21st Century Democratic Party is NOT at all the same party as that of FDR, JFK, or even Bill Clinton. No, it’s something else, and burdened with almost complete, unchecked political power, finally laden with responsibility and accountability, ripped away from its preferred victimized position of opposition for opposition’s sake…the party is starting to rip itself apart. The last time this kind of infighting happened (not without coincidence) was the last time the Democratic Party was run by the far left, controlled Congress, and the Presidency.

Democratic unity starts to show cracks

Democrats head into 2009 with sky-high expectations but points of intra-party friction are already starting to show a month before President-elect Obama’s inauguration, forecasting bigger fights next year. Veteran Democrats say the party has become more split along parochial interests since Democrats last controlled majorities as large as they will in the 111th Congress. They say the growth of their majorities in Congress, which has ushered in a new cadre of lawmakers from conservative-leaning states and those with new views on old policy problems, has only made the Democratic caucuses less governable. “Because the Democratic caucus is itself diverse, reflecting many different points of view, it will be a challenge for the leadership to keep that coalition of interests together on the priorities established,” said former Democratic Sen. Richard Bryan (Nev.). “That will be a big challenge.”

Look for interesting (and shifting) coalitions. Democrats from “safe” districts, will, of course, advance an ultra-liberal agenda. But Obama will work with moderate Democrats and Republicans to thwart overreaching leftist legislation, as Obama realizes that he has an historic opportunity, which he is not about to sacrifice to the altar of ideology.

obama will do whatever the people in chicago tell him to do. obama owes alot of people many things, and payday is a comin. this congress will be a freakin mess and when they all fall on the faces and nothing gets done, the conservatives will again over take the dims. if you ask most people why they voted for obama they will tell you that he is black and they are afraid to be racist. interesting, we have a nondeserving president wlect, and an inept congress, this should be a fab 4 years.

Larry… Obama is will be POTUS. Not a “god” with moral judgment. He can do nothing but say yes or no to Congressional legislation on a domestic level. So he, Pelosi and Reid (if he lives to succeed in his next NV election) live as political powers that feed each other.

Pelosi/Reid will not pass a rare opportunity to “over reach” since they don’t see it as over reaching. Obama’s got nothing to do with it. They *will* expect quid pro quo. So you can bet if they get something passed in an almost supermajority Congress, and Obama vetoes it, there will be hell to pay.

Obama will not refuse them anything they put thru. He is not that “moral”. He is a political opportunist – as you and I agree – thru and thru.

So knock it off with the moral thermometer of Barack Obama. Any morals he has will be superceded by opportunism. He hasn’t the balls to buck the party leadership that handed him power on the Clinton’s holiday platter. He knows it would be political suicide.

Secondly, on foreign policy… where Obama, as CIC, does NOT need Pelosi and Reid… I’ll agree he would like to do the right thing. But personally, I don’t think Obama would recognize the right thing if it ran him down on the freeway like an old conventional Peterbilt bookin’ at 70 mph with a full payload. But I will be happy to be utterly surprised and wrong if he figures it out late.

“Larry… Obama is will be POTUS.” (Mata)

Not so sure he will ever be your President.
