Yup, it looks like the song for Super Tuesday will be “Good bye Rudy Tuesday”.
And here’s my new Huck song:
Huck, the magic dragon aiming for DC
Flip-flopped in the winter snow for everyone to see.
Little Chuckie Norris loved that rascal Huck,
although he was by all accounts as dumb as hockey puck. Oh
(Chorus, twice)
Together they would travel on a boat with billowed sail
Chuckie kept a lookout perched on Huck’s gigantic tail,
Noble mainstream media would bow whene’er they came,
DNC would not complain when Huck roared out his name. Oh
(Chorus)
Huck flip-flops forever but not so steady Fred
So when the truth about Huck’s known they’ll vote for Fred instead.
One grey night it happened, Chuckie came no more
And Huck that mighty dragon, he ceased his pointless roar.
His head was bent in sorrow, green scales fell like rain,
Huck no longer went to play along the cherry lane.
Without his life-long friend, Huck could not be brave,
So Huck that mighty dragon sadly slipped into his cave. Oh
I personally think that Hillary’s loss of inevitability took out the major component of Rudy’s appeal: he is somehow the only one that can defeat her. I also think that structurally a thrice-married, pro-abortion, anti-gun, pro-illegal immigration Italian-American from NYC with a lisp who constantly talks about his role in cleaning up the city (where a major component was getting rid of guns) sounds like an implausible winning Republican candidate. If the magic of his role in 9/11 wears off, the major things that make him appealing are his stance on the war on terror and his management expertise, but Romney is right there with similar/better credentials in that area. Unlike Fred, where people can weigh in their mind the supposed “fire in the belly/old/lazy” thing vs. “has the right positions on EVERY important Republican issue” and “has a campaign schedule for the next 3 weeks in Iowa that would kill a horse” and come to the right conclusion, I’m not sure what it is that people will realize after pondering Rudy’s appeal.
IF Huck’s bubble bursts, Fred will pick up ALMOST ALL of it. I looked at the internals of a recent nationwide CBS/NYT poll where Fred was scraping the bottom among the top five, but when they asked a pre-Huck question (meaning it didn’t include Huck for historical comparison) Fred rose to a VERY close second.
Actually what’s currently fascinating me is the Fox/Fred animosity. I’ve heard all the explanations: they are totally for Rudy, Fred hired then fired a producer, Fred isn’t supported by big business because he’ll get rid of the illegals, etc. But what O’Reilly did last week is in my opinion unprecedented under similar circumstances. He excluded Fred TWICE from his on-line poll and it’s mention in the program. Even given Fred’s supposed refusal to appear on O’Reilly, this type of hardball is so petty and strange, I’d like to know the real reason, if it’s not one of the mentioned ones.
I commented about Fred’s appearance on the newer thread, but as far as Rudy’s chances or the Edwards’ and Fred’s resurgence in Iowa are concerned, I don’t think these are truly knowable because small perturbations totally change the dynamics.

Igor you are very talented!
You really should sing that with guitar accompaniment and post it on You Tube! It would be an instant hit.
I wouldn’t be too quick to dismiss Rudy. He’s got some money to spend and he won’t be saving it to run as an Independent (AHEM-Ron Paul).
Will Fred pick up some of the pieces when the Huck bubble bursts? Time will tell.
Mike, thanks! Problem is I don’t play guitar, I can only play with words. 🙂

I wouldn’t count Rudy out just yet Igor.
It’s an odd strategy that he has, but yet, it’s an odder primary season than ever before too.
P.S. Catch the Hannity and Colmes replay tonight at midnight EST. Fred is on for the first 20 minutes. I guess not everyone at Fox has it in for him.
