Fox News has more:
University officials released a statement explaining their concern for response to the editorial, and that it has no control over its student media.
“While we understand (the editorial) is upsetting and offensive to many people, CSU is prohibited by law from censoring or regulating the content of its student media publications,” CSU said in a written statement.
The newspaper’s editor-in-chief wrote a letter to readers to explain that “our intentions were not malicious.”
“While the editorial board feels strongly with regard to first amendment issues, we have found the unintended consequences of such a bold statement to be extremely disheartening,” wrote J. David McSwane, editor-in-chief.
Not malicious? Sure thing bud.
Meanwhile on another campus a man who wants Isreal destroyed is being allowed to speak to the university due to the tireless work of one Dr. Gary Sick:
Iran’s President Mahmood Ahmadinejad is scheduled to speak at Columbia University on Monday September 24th. This arrangement is not accidental. The event would have not been possible without the tireless and focused efforts of the well known Tehran advocate Dr. Gary Sick, an influential figure in Columbia.
As it has already been examined in a recent article "Pro-Ayatollahs Disinformation and Manipulation Campaign by Washington Think Tankers"1, the Iranian lobby in US could not exist without generous assistance of some American interest groups and proxies such as Dr Gary Sick, the American Iranian Council in which Sick is a board member of, and his circle of cohorts.
In the past two decades Dr. Sick has been a tenacious activist in advancing the interests of Iranian Ayatollahs. His dossier of friendship with Tehran includes positions such as the directorship of The Gulf/2000 Project established in 1993 in the School of International and Public Affairs at Columbia University . This project is mainly financed by the oil industry and is focused in engaging Tehran.
When Mohammad Jafar Mahallati, the former Iranian deputy foreign minister and ambassador to the UN, was terminated from his official positions to commence his duties in "unofficial diplomacy", Dr. Sick’s active influence secured him a position in Columbia from 1991 to 1997. The list of Gary Sick’s collaborations with Mahallati is long.
What else is this madman scheduled to do when he steps foot on our soil?
During the two-day visit, the Iranian president, who will be accompanied by a group of high-ranking officials, is scheduled to conduct a speech at the general assembly meeting, attend bilateral talks with several of his counterparts and meet Iranians residing in the US.
Ahmadinejad is also set to use a speech at a leading US university to challenge George W Bush at a time of high tensions with Washington over his country’s pursuit of nuclear technology.
The invitation by New York’s Columbia University to Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is attracting growing criticism from the US hawks ahead of his arrival on Sunday.
Meetings with the survivors and bereaved families of the 9-11 incident, journalists and critics of the Bush administration are also included in Ahmadinejad’s itinerary.
Of the 9/11 INCIDENT…..gotta love that. It’s not an attack to the Iranian Government.
Our universities are overrun with leftists teaching our youth to put up malicious editorials about our President, is it any wonder those same people would invite a tyrant and a madman to speak to those same youth?

I can’t wait to see what Code Pink does to protest the man who wants to nuke Israel.
Surely, the Code Pink circus freaks and the anti-war group ANSWER will show up in strength at the U.N, And at Columbia to demonstrate against Amadinejad’s military buildup and threats like “Death to America.”
I’m sure that U.N. and Columbia officials will make sure both groups have reserved seats for both events.
I’m really looking forward to seeing both groups in New York on Sunday and Monday!
The name Gary Sick seems very familiar. If memory serves correct, I believe he was with State in the late 70s and the resident expert on Iran.
That’s the kook left for you — morally ignorant, and blindly submissive to tyrants.
What a pathetic place the university has become…sad.
I don’t think there’s any doubt that academia is in deep trouble. Professors and students a like are more likely to be morally and politically bankrupt trading patriotism for anarchy. And they think it’s cool.
Columbia University bans military recruiters but invited Mahmoud Ahmadinejad to speak. I see. Well, I saw some students confidently describing how they would hold Mahmoud to the fire for his perceived international sins…. I have no doubt Mahmoud will make many converts in these young skulls full of mush. He’s going to wipe the floor with them and leave them asking for more.
What the clown who wrote the “F Bush” opinion fails to see is that he will not be tasered. No one who attacks Bush is ever denied free speech. Now, stand up for the President, be a Soldier who supports the War on Terror, or try to be a conservative at most colleges and you WILL find out what oppression and censorship are all about.
As for the guy who DID get tasered, it was a last resort and, as evidence is showing, was brought on by his publicity seeking idiocy.
Columbia U; Ahmadinejad’s just an idea guy
Well, we’ve just watched political correctness jump the shark. Columbia University’s President, this Bollinger guy, through the vocal chords of this Dean John Coatsworth fellow has declared that Columbia would have given a forum to a 1939 …
