Ann Coulter – The Lightning Rod

So Ann Coulter said faggot and the world has fallen apart. 

“I’d say something about John Edwards, but if you say ‘faggot’ you have to go to rehab.”

I’m actually kind of dumbfounded at the reaction from fellow conservatives on this remark.  Almost a month ago Ann layed out the reasoning behind this remark on Fox:

While discussing politicians and celebrities who "run to rehab in times of crisis," earlier today on Fox News Channel, conservative pundit Ann Coulter mocked the idea that someone should have to be "rehabilitated" for using a word that is considered a slur against gays.

"You use the word ‘faggot’ and you’re going into rehab?" Coulter asked incredulously on Fox’s Live Desk A-List.

The best selling Godless author was referring to Grey’s Anatomy star, Isaiah Washington, who used the word twice in reference to co-star T.R. Knight. Knight later publicly "came out" when word broke out about the on-set scuffle the two actors had.

[…]Coulter maintained that going to rehab was "a way of avoiding the actual bad thing you did," like "have an affair with your aide’s wife."

San Franciso Mayor Gavin Newsom "apologized Thursday for having a sexual relationship with his former campaign manager’s wife," the Associated Press reported a few days ago.

"Now," Coulter continued, "unless you were caught drunk driving like Mel Gibson and that’s what the issue is…it’s substance abuse you know, you use the word ‘faggot,’ and you’re going into rehab?"

"Come on," Coulter added.

Below is the video of her comments, it’s towards the end of a five minute discussion with a whole panel so fast forward to about the 3 minute mark.

So we can now see the context she is using this term in.  She threw out a red herring about the recent idiotic episode in which one hollywood actor called another a faggot and then to fix the problem, entered rehab.  Why did she pick Edwards to throw this red herring out there, I would imagine it had to do with his hiring and firing of those foul mouthed bloggers recently. 

Gotta tell ya, I’m not offended by this statement by Ann.  You have to take in her recent comments on this very subject then apply it to today’s comments to understand where she is going with all this.  She is a lightening rod thats for sure.  She isn’t scared to tackle the lunacy of the PC police telling a man he needs to enter rehab for saying a word.  Look what she did to the Jersey Girls.  She was the only one to call the media to the mat for their one sided use of those morons and have we heard a peep from them since?

Ann is a smart women.  She knows what’s she’s doing, and that is taking on the left and beating them at their own game. 

Oh, and this is quite funny:

Democratic Party boss Howard Dean demanded that Republican presidential candidates denounce conservative columnist Ann Coulter after she referred to Democratic presidential hopeful John Edwards as a ‘faggot’ during a speech Friday at a national conservative gathering.

Yeah:

"I hate the Republicans and everything they stand for…"

No apology for that.
