The U.N. atomic agency found traces of highly enriched uranium on equipment from an Iranian site linked to the country’s defense ministry, diplomats said Friday, adding to concerns that Tehran was hiding activities aimed at making nuclear arms.
The diplomats, who demanded anonymity in exchange for revealing the confidential information, said the findings were preliminary and still had to be confirmed through other lab tests.
Initially, they said the density of enrichment appeared to be close to or above the level used to make nuclear warheads. But later a well-placed diplomat accredited to the
International Atomic Energy Agency said it was below that, although higher than the low-enriched material used to generate power and heading toward weapons-grade level.
This proves that their nuclear program is NOT for civilian purposes. To have highly enriched uranium means only one thing. A nuclear weapon.
If they have the capability of enriching uranium to weapons grade then they are MUCH closer to having the bomb then the supposed 5-10 years.
This is coming to a head. The tough choices need to be made and soon. Thankfully Bush is the one making them instead of Kerry or Gore.
BUT….the UN is making excuses for Iran:
THE HAGUE (Reuters) – Iran has legitimate security concerns that the United States must address if the crisis over Tehran?s nuclear programme is to be resolved, the head of the U.N. nuclear watchdog said on Friday.
?This is primarily a regional security issue,? Mohamed ElBaradei, head of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) he told a debate in The Hague.
?Iran is surrounded by countries that have nuclear weapons, Russia has nuclear weapons, Pakistan has nuclear weapons, Israel has nuclear weapons, Iraq has used chemical weapons against them. There is a sense of insecurity,? he said.
?When you talk about the Iranian issue, the only solution is a package that should inter alia include security issues.?
Yeah, that’s the ticket. They just want to protect themselves. It’s not like they’ve said recently that a certain someone should be wiped off the face of the earth:
Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad made worldwide last December by saying the Holocaust is a “myth fabricated to create a Jewish state in the heart of the Islamic world.” He repeated his remarks in several later speeches.
Earlier he said the state of Israel is a “tumour” that should be moved to Europe or “wiped off the map.?
EU leaders reacted by declaring that “these comments are wholly unacceptable and have no place in civilized political debate.?
This week, while on a visit to Jakarta, Indonesia, he reiterated his attacks, saying that Israel will “one day vanish.”
The UN once again showing the world what a useless organization it is.
