Around three hundred French civilians were murdered yesterday and an undetermined number were injured during the first hours of the American invasion of continental Europe. According to information coming from the front, the American invasion caused serious environmental damage. The army brigade that landed on the beaches is equipped with tanks, trucks and war machinery that destroyed several kilometers of coastline and thousands of hectares of very ecologically interesting wetlands. It is believed that the lazy crab?s habitat, native to this part of France, has been totally devastated; biologists warned the species might disappear. In the meantime, rumors persist about supposed mistreatment the Germans are inflicting on the Central European Jews in the so-called ?concentration camps,? but nothing has been proved yet.
It might look like it, but this is not a joke. Today, seventy years after the landing, this fictitious news report would be real, it would be in every newspaper and everyone would blindly believe it.
The only thing he left out was the report of un-armored Higgins Boats, inadequate protection for our troops…how could they be expected to fight a battle in those?

I use the articles at that website that Dan left all the time. Pretty amazing stuff. I never learned that in school or any books how the occupation of Germany was viewed at the time.
And it will be the same with Iraq in fifty years. They’ll talk about how the invasion set off a liberalizing trend across the Middle East.
We saw how this worked with Reagan, too. When he was president the left vilified him just like they do Bush. And then when he died they pretended like they’d agreed with him all along.
Also, there were 2,400 casualties on Omaha Beach alone the first day. Which is 400 more than have been lost since the beginning of the Iraq War.
