The MSM is flat out saying the Democrats have their nominee. They, however, have been in bed with Obama for months, and desperately want his death struggle with Hillary to be over. So when Hillary came out the other day and said she was suspending her campaign, they pounced and announced that she was conceding the race. That conclusion, however, would earn you a D+ on a 5th Grade reading comprehension test.

Here is what she said.

The New York senator, who had been criticized for failing to concede the election on Tuesday night, despite Obama’s clear grasp of the nomination, earlier told supporters in an e-mail early today that she will formally end her quest for the nomination on Saturday.

In the e-mail, she said “I will extend my congratulations to Senator Obama and my support for his candidacy. … I have said throughout the campaign that I would strongly support Senator Obama if he were the Democratic Party’s nominee, and I intend to deliver on that promise.”

So she will “end her quest” for the nomination. Yup, there are no more primaries or caucuses. That quest is over. Now if some super-delegates want to switch from Obama to her for whatever reason, they are, of course, free to do so. Read the rest of this entry »

Super Tuesday Thoughts

Posted by: Curt @ 10:21 pm in Politics

Mark Steyn at his best on this Super Tuesday:

Forget the gaseous platitudes: in Dem terms, their choice on Super Duper Tuesday was deciding which candidate was Super Duper and which was merely Super. Over on the GOP side, it was a choice between Weak & Divisive or Weaker & Unacceptable. Doesn’t bode well for November.

The big surprise of the night is that the South voted for a Republican who has no chance, and essentially gave the Republican nod to McCain.

A Bonanza Of Entertainment!

Posted by: Curt @ 3:23 pm in Politics

Just imagine the blogging bonanza this scenario would bring?

the Democratic nomination may come down to whether or not the delegates from Michigan and Florida are seated at the national convention.

According to CNN, right now Hillary’s ahead in the delegate count, 230 to to 152. The winner needs 2,025. But Hillary’s lead is almost entirely already-committed superdelegates, as the contests so far have been all near-ties in terms of delegates: Both she and Obama got 18 out of Iowa, CNN gives Obama one more delegate out of New Hampshire (a sort-of explanation here), they split Nevada 14 each, and Obama won South Carolina’s, 26 to 14.

Looking forward, 370 out of the 441 delegates in California are awarded proportionally. In New York, 151 out of 281 are awarded proportionally, so Obama could walk away with (if current polls are accurate) about 45 delegates from Hillary’s home state. Similarly, she could get about 22 percent of Illinois’ 153 delegates, about 33 delegates.

The Brokered Convention

Posted by: Curt @ 2:20 pm in Politics

Conservative Belle has a scoop that is worth paying attention to:

While I’m not able to divulge the names of my sources or my connection to those individuals, I have learned some interesting information about the RNC. The fate of some GOP candidates may rest completely on a discussion which takes place this week among the RNC Executive Committee and the delegates for the GOP National Convention.

here is a lot of discussion about a brokered convention. It could be a real possibility, with multiple possible scenarios unfolding.

any states have rebelled against the RNC rules and scheduled their primary elections earlier this year - Florida being one of them. The committee members warned them months ago not to do this as they may lose their delegates at the national convention. I was told last night that the final decision will be made this week. While the Republican National Committee voted 121-9 to impose the penalties and remove half of their delegates, Chairman Mike Duncan does have the power to overrule that decision. He has indicated he will not do that. There is still a possibility that all or none of them will count, and some states have indicated they bring litigation against the RNC if only half of their delegates are counted, regardless.

Which states are we talking about and how will they matter?

Florida - 114 delegates
Michigan - 60 delegates
Wyoming - 28 delegates
South Carolina - 47 delegates
New Hampshire - 24 delegates

She was wrong on the call, slightly, which she updated with the actual rules.

On pages 12 & 13, Rule No. 16 (Enforcement of Rules), section (a), paragraphs (1) and (2):

There appears to be two choices. The delegates can be reduced by 50% (paragraph 1) or by 90% (paragraph 2).

On page 14, Rule No. 16 (Enforcement of Rules), section (e), paragraph (2) [Emphasis mine]:

After the Republican National Committee members are excluded from being part of the offending state’s delegation to the national convention, the state party shall determine which of the state’s remaining delegates (and corresponding alternate delegates) are entitled to serve as the state’s reduced delegation to the national convention.

Which means the States could decide to sit down any of Rudy’s delegates and put Fred’s up. Or any other number of combinations. Brokered convention here we come…..

Even funnier will be when the States GOP leadership decide to sit down Ron Paul’s delegates and then watching the Ronulans go absolutely batty…..now that will be a blast!
