Why does President Obama take so much credit for killing Bin Laden?

Because he can claim it, and the other guy can’t.

Why does Romney claim business experience that Obama lacks?

Same answer.

What a 180′ from this….
DFW Airport in Dallas Texas George W. Bush very quietly handing out those special coins that these men can use to never have to pay for a round of drinks again with.
Bush is welcoming these returning heros and he did NOT set up any camera or coverage.
This would have gone un-noted had it not been for a private party filming it.
Tooting a horn, but not his own!

When I read things like this, I start to think Obama does garbage like trying to spike the football on Osama’s death because he wants to DIVERT our attention from real issues.

Have we been kept diverted by Obama’s sideshows so much that we all missed this fact?….

For 59 out of the last 60 weeks, the weekly jobless numbers have been revised, after the fact, always in the same direction: higher. That’s unheard of.

What about this one?
Demand [in the USA] has not materialized.

Productivity [in the USA] has obviously been very good, so we’re creating more capacity with less resources,” he said. “But at the end of the day, this is really about responding to demand, whether its automobiles or packaging products we make for a whole variety of industries and end users.”

“We’re investing in India. We’re investing in Russia. We’re investing in Brazil,” International Paper CEO John Faraci added. “Not to ship products back here, but because demand exists in those markets. At the end of the day, this is really about responding to demand. We’re not going to go out and invest unless there’s demand.”

Romney said (maybe he copied someone else) “It’s the economy. And we’re not stupid!”
He’s right.
All the rest is diversion.

Actually jason, obama can’t claim it. He didn’t order the raid and he certainly wasn’t there.

It’s one of the only real successes his admin has been associated with, and he is depserately trying to win re-election off anything he possibly can. Sad really.

hi,
when someone has only death to brag about, he really is in trouble
with live accomplishment
the GOVERNMENT IS NOT TO BE RUN ON DEATH ACCOMPLISHMENT, this is the jobs of the MILITARIES TO KILL THE ENNEMIES, THE GOVERNMENT IS NOT THE MAFIA AND THE BULLIES SHOULD NOT BE IN GOVERNMENT AFFAIRS,
THERE IS NO NEED FOR A DICTATOR IN THE GOVERNMENT

AND THE WHITE HOUSE BELONG TO THE PEOPLE OF AMERICA

@Hard Right, #4:

Actually jason, obama can’t claim it. He didn’t order the raid and he certainly wasn’t there.

According to some purely imaginary right-wing version of history, of course.

The rest of America still lives in a reality where the President of the United States is Commander in Chief of all of the nation’s military forces.

Barack Obama, the Commander in Chief of the United States of America, ordered the military action that took out Osama bin Laden.

As has already been pointed out, the only thing Mitt Romney ordered that was even remotely related to the Osama bin Laden mission was pizza.

Panetta actually gave the order because barry choked. I suppose he was having second thoughts about killing his muslim brothers but knew he could politicize osamas death when necessary. The man makes my skin crawl and for some reason I think of slime.

Perhaps we should get rid of our military. We can save lots of $$$$ since we have a super weapon in Obama. He has killed more bad guys by himself than our whole military combined. He can do it without being there and can do it without breaking a sweat. He can even do it while playing golf, meaning as an added bonus, he can multitask. SEAL Team 6 were mere wimps compared to him. Just ask him and his supporters.

Instead of retiring, I should have stayed in and served longer under him. Lincoln, FDR, Truman, and Bush all paled in comparison as war time leaders. Giving the go ahead for a 3 star admiral to give the order to kill OBL if he thought it would succeed, was a far bigger decision than Lincoln’s decisions to fight the Civil War in order to preserve the Union or his giving Grant the go ahead to wage total war to win, FDR’s decisions to declare war on Japan or to give the go ahead for D-Day, Truman’s decision to drop the A-bomb, or Bush’s decision to invade Afghanistan in the first place in order to defeat AQ.

@Greg:

If you had any connection to reality you wouldn’t be a leftist. You certainly don’t come close to sharing the views of sane Americans, so you have no business speaking for them. In fact, when asked, a majority of Americans gave more credit to the SEALs than obama. So yes, pretend they are cheering him on. Really, you’ve more than proven you aren’t ahsamed to lie or even pollish obama’s big stick, greg. I’d call you a leftwing whore, but I would rather not insult whores like that. They at least work for a living.

@another vet, #8:

Obama probably wouldn’t even be talking about what happened a year ago if republicans weren’t continuously asserting that he had little or nothing to do with it. You don’t let bullsh-t like that slide during an election year. When people hear a lie often enough, they start to believe it. (Although it really is the absolute truth that Mitt Romney, if elected, will institute a nation-wide ban on the drinking of coffee.)

So far as grandstanding goes, Obama’s comparatively modest statement doesn’t even come close to pretending to have piloted a jet fighter to a carrier landing after 30 years out of the cockpit, and then posing under a Mission Accomplished banner when U.S. casualties in Iraq stood at only 139 killed, 542 wounded, and the war was 7 long and brutal years from being over.

As Obama was walking on his political path, he walked into some quicksand and started to sink. As with real quicksand, you grab for anything you can to pull yourself out. Obama keeps grabbing for something solid to hold on to to at least keep him from sinking deeper in the quicksand.

He grabbed the Stimulus branch and it fell apart in his hands. He grabbed the bank bailout branch and it was too slick to hold on to. He grabbed the auto bailout branch and it kept bending as he went deeper in the quicksand. The last branch left was the ObamaCare branch, and it broke off and landed on him and is pushing him down fast now. He is now grabbing at anything left within his reach. The problem is that the only thing within reach is grass with very shot roots. The “I got Ben Laden” grass isn’t going to be enough to use to pull himself out of the quicksand he put himself in, but when you are going under, and nothing else helped, you grab at ANYTHING you can, but he has run out of things that will get him out of this mess.

Tune in next week, same time, same station, and see if Obama goes under, or if, somehow, he gets himself out of this mess.

@Greg: Ah yes, nothing is Obama’s fault. It’s always the other guy. The “grandstanding” was addressed by Mata in depth with Larry awhile ago showing that the charge was bogus. Obama gave the go ahead for an admiral to make the decison to execute a mission to take out OBL based on an Executive Order signed by Bush. Nothing more, nothing less. For that, I have and still give him credit for just like I have backed his continued use of drone strikes. On the difficulty scale, it doesn’t rank that high compared to past presidential wartime decisions, some of which I mentioned earlier. It doesn’t make him a war hero, a warrior, a combat veteran, or a master military stategist like he and his supporters have tried to make it out to be. As a matter of fact, given the attempt to make the OBL kill all about himself, his cutting of our military forces, the piss poor pay raises, and his constant attempts to cut military benefits, it is quite arguable that he is not a big supporter of our military. They are just a means to an end for him in his political career.

Well, let’s see, maybe it’s because the previous administration couldn’t manage to do it—maybe because they placed too much emphasis on promoting a war in Iraq in which they had more personal, economic advantages.

@Liberal1 (objectivity):

What economic advantages are you speaking of?

Do you really think that our SEALs would have been able to take ObL out had it not been for the intel that was developed under Bush, and Obama (then a Senator vying for a higher office the minute he was sworn in) then was against.

I feel sorry for you. You are blind to the faults of Obama, who has done NOTHING to improve our nation and lessen the burden on everyday Americans. ObL is his only claim to fame, and he seems unwilling to share that with the men that actually breached the walls in Abbattobad.

Since Obama can’t run for re-election on his own accolades, he has to give himself credit for what others did. I don’t remember any statement by FDR acting like he single handedly took Omaha Beach.

@Greg: Mitt Romney, if elected, will institute a nation-wide ban on the drinking of coffee.

Oh, my!
Are you really afraid of a theocracy being put in place?
See this?
In response to Afghan outrage over the inadvertent Koran burnings by the U.S. Military in February, the Obama Defense Department created a mandatory training for military service members in the region. It is entitled, “Proper handling and disposal of Islamic Religious Materials: Service Members/Civilian Training.”
That link is to the last slide in the group.

Now, Obama asserts through that slide: “We will hold sacred the beliefs held sacred by others.”

Sounds theocratic, huh?
But it is a selective theocracy under Obama.
To President Obama, the sacred beliefs of Islam in Afghanistan must be held sacred by the U.S. government, but Christianity in America is a nuisance to be reshaped by ObamaCare, the courts and the bureaucracy with no regard for its beliefs.

And if we must (according to Obama) hold sacred Korans being used by Afghan terrorists to pass messages back and forth, then certainly we can hold sacred religious symbols held sacred by law-abiding Americans here in the United States.
We can put back up the crosses and the Ten Commandments courts have forced us to take down?

Is Obama prepared to “hold sacred the beliefs held sacred by others” if those others are Americans?

Obama is on video slamming the beliefs/book American Christians and Jews hold sacred.
Remember this?

hi,
that’s why the borders are still open to get the flow inside faster,
in his years of being PRESIDENT , THERE CAME THE HORDES FROM THERE,
BEING RECEIVED WITH OPEN ARMS FROM HIM, LOOK AT THE MANY MOSQUES
BUILT ON HIS TERM
what will happen if he is put back in office, it’s the most dangerous disaster for AMERICA EVER,
IT WILL SURPASS THE PREVIOUS ATTEMPT TO CONFRONT AMERICA FROM EVERY ATTACKS HAPPENED BEFORE, be it BRITISH, GERMAN JAPONANESE.

President Obama does deserve some credit, and plenty was given to him right here on FA after bin Laden was taken down. Whether his actions were active or passive, makes no difference. The National Command Authority pretty much takes over. If an EO is on the books, SecDef as deputy CinC has the authority or prosecute missions. Did Panetta order the attack? Maybe, but he did so under authority from POTUS in the form of the EO. Even if the EO was signed by Bush, Obama allowed it to stand within the NCA.
What is jerking everyone’s chain is Obama saying he’s the only one that had the courage to make the decision. That is utter BS. Like Romney said the other day, even Jimmah Carter would have made that decision. If Obama had not made the decision to go, and word leaked out, and it would have, we wouldn’t even be talking about his reelection. The democrat party would not have even nominated Obama again. There would be all kinds of dems trying to primary him. So quit making such a big deal over it. Doing the right thing is what you do when no one is looking, and expect no praise. Someone show me an article where the SeAL that actually pulled trigger is looking for a book deal or a movie role.

The funny thing is, if obama wanted to talk about successes under his admin, the drone strikes would be a prime example. Sure, Bush set everything up for obama and co., but he didn’t have to use them. Instead he tries to take credit for that which the American people feel the military and CIA are much more deserving of.

“When Americans are asked how much credit they would give to Barack Obama, George W. Bush, the CIA, and the U.S. military for finding and killing bin Laden, the U.S. military and the CIA emerge as the big winners in the public’s eyes. Nearly 9 of 10 (89%) say the military deserves “a great deal of credit,” while 62% say the same about the CIA.”

He has never attempted to make it “all about himself”. That’s the impression that the right wing is trying to sell—in between their bat-shit crazy assertions that this particular Commander in Chief has never really commanded anything; that the most powerful military power on the planet has been flying for 3 1/2 years on autopilot, with the course locked in by George W Bush. (Who didn’t set the nation’s economic course, btw. That was all Obama’s doing—even though the U.S. economy, the housing market, the stock market, and the nation’s financial system were already in an apparently terminal nose dive before Bush had left office.)

So far as cutting military spending goes, Do conservatives want to rein in spending or not? If you do, you’re going to have to put defense spending on the table along with everything else. Is there some good reason why we really need to continue to spend more on defense than the next 6 biggest spenders combined, when we simply don’t have the means to do it?

Have military pay raises under Obama really been that low, compared with the real wage increases most Americans have seen over the same years? (Admittedly they’re very low when compared with the enormous income increases the wealthiest Americans have realized, but I assume you don’t want to go there.)

Exactly what “constant attempts to cut military benefits” are you talking about? Things like the post-9/11 GI bill, maybe? Obama’s proposed 2012 budget included overall spending on veteran’s services by more than 10 percent. Does that sound anti-military?

@Greg: As for him not attempting to make this all about himself, go back and read his statements and see how many times ‘I’ was used. I this and I that. He’s made false accustaions against Romney making it sound like he, Obama, is the only one who had the courage to give the thumbs up. It’s a matter of record.

As for cuts in Defense, by all means go after waste. There is enough of it. Cutting troop levels by 100,000 is assinine and will leave us vulnerable in the future. Part of the problem I believe is that, like always, planners are basing their future plans on the current war. As such, they are looking at the mileage we have gotten out of SOF and drones and are basing future planning on that. What they don’t realize is that those are force multipliers but by themselves, won’t win a war. In order for them to be the most effective, you still need to control territory to operate from and that requires conventional troops. The same mistake has been made before, the Gulf War being the most recent and a prime example only the reverse was true. After that war, the military was slashed and training focused on manuever units and SF was cut. Training was this manuever unit against the Republican Guard etc. Pushed to the wayside was Phase Four operations which involves Low Intensity Conflict (LIC). Look at the problems in both Afghanistan and Iraq. Phases 1-3 in Iraq were well executed. The LIC phase in the beginning was not because leaders were at a loss as to what to do because their backgrounds were heavily focused on a Desert Storm type war. There was a steep learning curve which may have very well prolonged our involvement there.

Cuts? The GI Bill, more than one attempt to jack up health care costs, and trying to do away with the present retirement system to name a few. The latest edition of the VFW Magazine addressed some of them. I can also testify first hand as to the cuts as can others both former and currently serving Vets that I know.

Anyhow, I appreciate the civilized debate. There have been a few others, those being trolls, who have come here and ranted and raved a bunch of stupid vile shit on this and other subjects. Curt has banned most of them. One told me I wasn’t a real Vet because I stuck up for Bush. I haven’t seen that nutjob post here since and if I ever met him in person, he would be in need of a good dentist.

@Liberal1 (objectivity): #13
Maybe it was because the propaganda media were helping them. Do you remember when the propaganda media reported that we were tracking OBL by his cell phone? Right after the story went out, he quit using that phone. We would have had him if the propaganda media didn’t aid the enemy. I still don’t know why someone wasn’t prosecuted for treason.

The propaganda media even had their reporters imbedded with the enemy. Remember the two reporters who were killed along with the enemy by a Apache helicopter. Reporters are supposed to wear blue helmets and vests, but these two didn’t. Why? They wanted to get video of our enemy killing US soldiers two or three blocks away.

hi,
It is confusing that OBAMA IS IN TIME OF WAR STILL RAGING AND KILLING AND INJURING THE
AMERICANS MILITARY, WHILE OBAMA SEND BILLIONS OF DOLLARS TO MANY HATERS AND
THE EGYPT ARAB SPRING BROTHERHOOD, WHICH ARE CONNECTED WITH ENEMIES FIGHTING AGAINST AMERICANS AND BLATENTLY YELLING THEIR FOREVER HATE FOR AMERICA,
WHAT IS THIS INJUSTICE ALLOWED TO PERSIST, LONGER AND NOW HE SAID TO BE TALKING TO TALIBAN TO TELL THEM TO BE GOOD BOYS AND I WILL MAKE YOU RICH,
he is taking away from the vets and the MILITARY WHO ARE DYING WHO HAS DIED BY MULTIPLE OF THOUSANDS ALONG WITH THE VETS WHO CAME BACK MISSING MEMBERS OF THEIR BODY
THAT IS FOR AS LONG AS THEY LIVE, HE IS TAKING AWAY FROM THEM ALL SO TO BUY THE ENEMIES STILL HATING AMERICA, IS IN IT THAT WEIRD FROM THIS GUY TO USE HIS POWER TO SPEND ON ENEMIES WHILE THE AMERICANS SUFFER, ANY KIND OF SUFFERING, FROM NO JOBS,
TO NOT ALL THEIR BODY PARTS, TO THE FAMILIES BROKEN HEART FROM THE LOST
OF THEIR BRAVEST,
THERE IS NO WAY THAT AMERICA WILL PUT THIS MAN AND HIS GANG OF MISFIT IN ANOTHER TERM OF FOUR LONG DESTRUCTIVE YEARS IN NOVEMBER THEY ARE OUT, AND
BY THE PEOPLE , AND FOR THE PEOPLE,

Smorg, lets not forget how manning, a hero of the left, tried to frame the Appache pilots for murder with the help of wikileaks.

Greg, way to move the goal posts. I show how people don’t give obama the credit and you try another tack, as usual.

@ilovebeeswarzone: Let’s hope the majority of the American people don’t make the same mistake twice.

@Hard Right: #25

…lets not forget how manning, a hero of the left, tried to frame the Appache pilots for murder with the help of wikileaks.

That’s why I mentioned that journalists are SUPPOSED to wear blue helmets and vests, but these two didn’t. How could the pilots tell who was who. They were in an area where there had been a firefight earlier, and the enemy was getting ready for another attack.
