‘Syrian society is being shredded’

Islamic State (IS) militants have destroyed part of Palmyra’s 2,000-year-old Temple of Bel – the largest temple at the ancient Syrian site, reports say.

The militants seized control of the world-famous Graeco-Roman ruins north-east of Damascus in May.

“This is such a major blow on a different order to anything else that’s happened for the whole of Syria,” said Syria expert Diana Darke. “Syria doesn’t know how to report this – it’s such a major loss.”

The conflict in Syria had been left untreated like an open wound for four years, added the author.

“Syrian society is being shredded.”

Where is the left and the liberals to yell and scream about this destruction. The fool is cheering, another Christian symbol of civilization has now been removed from this earth. The left have not voiced an opinion of this destruction but have celebrated with silent cheers of victory.

@mos 8541: What you say is true, in general, however, in THIS case the Temple of Bel (or Baal, Zeus or Jupiter) is NOT Christian.

The temple, consecrated to the Semitic god Bel, worshipped at Palmyra in triad with the lunar god Aglibol and the sun god Yarhibol, formed the center of religious life in Palmyra and was dedicated in 32 CE.

In 1132 the temple was converted into a mosque, which preserved it.
(Scan through these photos for the above statement.)

Muslims have a teaching in the koran called Jayallahya which demands the destruction of all pre-islamic beliefs, relics, whether there are conquered people who believe in them still ….or not.
This is why the Muslim Brotherhood wanted to destroy Egypt’s Pyramids, why the Taliban destroyed the giant Buddhas, what Jewish graveyards are desecrated all over, why the Church of the Nativity was desecrated, etc.

On an interesting side note, ISIS has minted gold coins.
It is asking only $70 for a one ounce coin!
That one ounce is worth over $1133. as of today, so people are already talking about ”collecting” these coins.
One of them shows a map of the world as the land for conquest by ISIS in the future.
I just hope ”collectors” will wait until it doesn’t have to benefit ISIS before amassing ISIS gold coins.

I would encourage people to buy these coins as a way to suck resources away from ISIS.
How many weapons can they buy with $70?
How many can they buy with a $1133 gold coin?
I don’t own any gold, but if I can figure out how to buy these, I will. Lots of them.

Can you imagine just how destructive ISIS would be if they weren’t a JV team?

@Petercat: You’re wrong, Petercat.
ISIS scored the gold for free when they took certain Iraqi cities and looted the banks.
So, their coins only cost them the price of minting, maybe $1.
Think of it like their oil they sell.
They took refineries and sold oil they didn’t even pump or refine themselves for between $20 and $40 dollars a barrel at a time when oil was legally selling for $103/barrel.
Now they can’t give oil away even if they could figure out how to run the refineries they ”control.”
So, gold coins.
I say wait until ISIS is no more before buying up some of their coinage.

ISIS is also suspected of selling looted artifacts on eBay. Ancient relics looted by ISIS in Iraq and Syria are showing up on eBay

eBay should probably declare a moratorium on the sale of all Middle Eastern artifacts. Artifact sales is a shady enterprise to begin with. If items for sale are genuine—which most often they are not—they’ve most likely been looted by somebody.

In any case, all money that finds its way into ISIS hands empowers their ability to finance more death and destruction. They should choke on their stolen gold.

The problem is that they already have the gold.
If I buy it, they have $70.00 in cash to spend on weapons.
And I have $1133.00 in gold.
If I don’t buy it, they have $1133.00 in gold with which to purchase weapons.
And I have $70.00 in cash.
I’d rather leave them with $70.00 to purchase weapons that $1133.00.

@Petercat:

George Soros will probably beat you to it.

Greg, Thanks for pointing out how clever ISIS is by using E- Bay.
