Google works for Obama

It’s 2020. The New England Patriots, winners of six straight Super Bowls, are having yet another routine meeting with the Commissioner’s Office.

Deputy NFL Commissioner Tom Brady and his chief of staff, Rob Gronkowski, OK a rule change that forgives the Patriots for illegally taping other teams and deflating football over the preceding years. Meanwhile, members of the Patriots continue to happily contribute funding for the commissioner’s new 45-room castle in Turks and Caicos, and Bill Belichick agrees to continue coaching the commissioner’s 12-year-old son in Pop Warner football.

Would that bother anyone? Because the above is pretty much going on today, only the team is called Google and the commissioner is the president of the United States.

Sure, since we’re talking about politics, the giving and taking of favors works in a slightly more indirect way. But only slightly. As Michael Kinsley used to say, the scandal about corruption in Washington is not the stuff that’s illegal but the stuff that’s legal.

A former Google officer is the president’s chief technology adviser. Google employees contributed more to President Obama’s re-election than did employees of any other company except Microsoft. Google lobbyists met with Obama White House officials 230 times. By comparison, lobbyists from rival Comcast have been admitted to the inner sanctum a mere 20 or so times in the same period.

I often wondered why when you search for “Obama lies” “George Bush lies” frequently comes up first or second

Some years back, I had read an article about how, under Bush, the levels of toxic elements in the air (aside from CO2, nudge, nudge) had decreased significantly. This without the oppressive and overreaching of the EPA which we have seen over the past 6 years.

In a discussion of the environment, the EPA, global warming, etc. on the Dallas Morning News blog, I decided I could use that story to make the point that the pain and suffering Obama is imposing upon the nation for the sake of global warming and the environment is totally unnecessary as Bush apparently accomplished quite a bit with just the regulations already in place. However, search as I did, I could not find the article. I thought it odd that when I searched for “Bush reduces dangerous elements in air”, all that came up was stories about how terrible Bush was with environmental issues. It took a really long time and several tries to finally find the article (after a while, one begins to doubt one’s own sanity that the story ever existed) and once I did, I pasted it to a Word document for future reference. I now have an Excel spread sheet with topics hyperlinked to documents with links I might find useful.

The subject of this article is something I have suspected for a while and is, no doubt, true. I wonder, however, if liberals ever wonder why, if their ideology is so grand and their message so alluring, other views have to be suppressed and lied about in order to make theirs appear appealing? Apparently the thought never occurs to them.

@Bill: Good advice Bill. I started several years ago to make sure I had a link to stories or articles that I might want to revisit. I had noticed then that what was available one day might not be the next day. I don’t know or care much for the politics of Google for the simple reason that if it’s not them it’ll just be someone else paying to play. Liberals do not rely on the truth for their story, so they just corrupt the whole system.
