FBI investigators say they have found no evidence that Orlando shooter had gay lovers

LAT:

Once the shooting at an Orlando nightclub last week that left 49 people dead, reports have emerged that gunman Omar Mateen frequented the gay club, used gay dating apps and had gay lovers.

But the FBI has found no evidence so far to support claims by those who say Mateen had gay lovers or communicated on gay dating apps, several law enforcement officials said.

Mateen, 29, told police negotiators he had carried out the shooting that began at 2 a.m. June 12 and ended, after a three-hour standoff, when he was killed by police.

He claimed the shooting was carried out in allegiance to the militant group Islamic State, as a message to halt U.S. bombing in Iraq and Syria.

Several Pulse regulars have come forward in the days since the shooting, claiming to have seen Mateen at the club or to have been contacted by him on the gay dating apps Grindr, Jack’d and Adam4Adam.

On Tuesday, Univision aired a report in which “Miguel,” a man wearing a disguise to conceal his identity, alleged he had sex with Mateen after meeting him on the gay dating app, Grindr. He said Mateen had sex with other men too, including a threesome with a Puerto Rican who allegedly told Mateen, after having had unprotected sex with him, that he was HIV positive.

But investigators do not consider the man’s account credible, according to one senior law enforcement official with access to the investigation.

In seeking to verify the reports, federal agents have culled Mateen’s electronic devices, including a laptop computer and cellphone, as well as electronic communications of those who made the claims, law enforcement officials said.

So far, they have found no photographs, no text messages, no smartphone apps, no gay pornography and no cell-tower location data to suggest that Mateen — who was twice married to women and had a young son — conducted a secret gay life, the officials said.

The FBI is continuing to explore Mateen’s past, but investigators now believe the men who made the claims are not credible, or confused Mateen with someone else.

The FBI has not said whether it has uncovered any evidence that Mateen visited the Pulse nightclub prior to the shooting.

But law enforcement sources did say that investigators have not uncovered any direct links between Mateen and members of Islamic State.

It is possible that Mateen might have had communications on cellphones or other electronic equipment that have not been recovered by investigators in the wake of the shooting.

Some of those who have claimed to be in contact with Mateen before the shooting continue to insist that the gunman seen in the photos released after the shooting is the same man who visited the nightclub before the shooting.

Back pre-AIDS I knew lots of gays in the 1960’s and early ’70’s.
A similar exaggerative tendency in them had them all bragging about having had sex with Rock Hudsen.
Now, who knows, it might have been true.
But after AIDS and Rock Hudsen’s coming out right before he died, that bragging all stopped.

Darn there goes a main liberal meme why did he did it (cant be Islam) cover, still have, bullied because he was muslim, rally to that one.

Except for first person witness statements made by the guy that says he was involved in a relationship with him, statements made by people who had seen or interacted with him in the club on numerous occasions, and statements from his ex-wife, who has also confirmed that he was so inclined.

Maybe people should try applying the same diminished standards of evidence that they’ve found entirely acceptable regarding accusations concerning Hillary Clinton.

He was a gay a radical rainbow boy and extremists and the demac-BRATS are acting rediculous

@Greg #3:

Exactly. The “evidence” they have is “anecdotal,” a quality that counts for next to nothing. Even Mateen’s OWN explanation is suspect, since there are more than a few reasons why the old rule that people who are about to die don’t lie isn’t always true. More importantly, it, like the other anecdotal accounts, is unsubstantiated. Every one of them is a lead that goes nowhere.

I am mystified by this myth that Democrats are soft on Muslim extremists. Obama, as Commander in Chief, ordered the successful assassination of Osama bin Laden, big-time hero of Muslim extremists everywhere, an action that included the uninvited violation of Pakistan’s sovereignty and one which did NOT exactly court favor with the Muslim World. He bombs ISIS where he can as well, but he stops short of declaring open war on all 1.6 billion Muslims world wide. I guess that those myth-mongers WANT such a war, but I don’t.

I can’t wait for Texas to secede. Once it’s gone, there won’t EVER be enough Electoral College votes on the GOP side to win a presidential contest. Then, Texas will be smack-butt-stuck to the biggest socialist orgy the Western Hemisphere has ever seen. Wonder how tall a wall those Texans will build around THEIR little piece of Hell? And wonder if that wall will keep as many Texans IN as it keeps Mexicans out!

2200 emails is a “diminished standard”? Proven, definite lies… ON TAPE… is a “diminished standard”?

Whether Mateen was a flamer or just a run of the mill radicalized Muslim, he committed his slaughter in the name of Islam for the greater glory of ISIS. There is nothing diminished about THAT.

@George Wells:

It’s not that mysterious. When an avowed radical Islamic terrorist kills for “Allah akbar”, Democrats ignore that and attack law abiding gun owners. When a terrorist kills in the name of ISIS, Democrats redact the statements and point to gun control. You know their explanation of why a Muslim terrorists shoots up a gay bar? Christians, that’s why.

It took Obama almost two days to decide to go get bin Laden when he had his address, the plan and team ready to go. He did this for the headlines, the same reason he pulled out of Iraq and created the ISIS we have today. He drones terrorists instead of capturing them for the intelligence that could be gathered. He does enough to get by.

If Democrats recognize that it is radical Islamic terrorism that threatens us, the gun control issue goes out the window. A few killings and the anxiety suffered by many Americans is a small price to pay, as far as Democrats are concerned. Liberalism is their religion.

But the goal is controlling those that don’t see the brilliance of liberalism.
