Website FreeRepublic Exposes BLM “document dump” that suggests attempted cover-up of Sen. Reid/Chinese gov’t takeover of ranch for solar farm.
The Bureau of Land Management, whose director was Sen. Harry Reid’s (D-Nev.) former senior adviser, has purged documents from its web site stating that the agency wants Nevada rancher Cliven Bundy’s cattle off of the land his family has worked for over 140 years in order to make way for solar panel power stations.
The first segment of the document pulled by the feds from BLM.gov.
Deleted from BLM.gov but reposted for posterity by the Free Republic, the BLM document entitled “Cattle Trespass Impacts” directly states that Bundy’s cattle “impacts” solar development, more specifically the construction of “utility-scale solar power generation facilities” on “public lands.”
“Non-Governmental Organizations have expressed concern that the regional mitigation strategy for the Dry Lake Solar Energy Zone utilizes Gold Butte as the location for offsite mitigation for impacts from solar development, and that those restoration activities are not durable with the presence of trespass cattle,” the document states.
The second segment of the document pulled by the feds from BLM.gov.
Another BLM report entitled Regional Mitigation Strategy for the Dry Lake Solar Energy Zone (BLM Technical Note 444) reveals that Bundy’s land in question is within the “Dry Lake Solar Energy Zone and surrounding area” which is part of a broad U.S. Department of Energy program for “Solar Energy Development in Six Southwestern States” on land “managed” by BLM.
“In 2012, the BLM and the U.S. Department of Energy published the Final Programmatic Environmental Impact Statement (PEIS) for Solar Energy Development in Six Southwestern States,” the report reads. “The Final Solar Programmatic Environmental Impact Statement assessed the impact of utility-scale solar energy development on public lands in the six southwestern states of Arizona, California, Colorado, Nevada, New Mexico, and Utah.”

“The Approved Resource Management Plan Amendments/Record of Decision (ROD) for Solar Energy Development in Six Southwestern States implemented a comprehensive solar energy program for public lands in those states and incorporated land use allocations and programmatic and SEZ-specific design features into land use plans in the six-state study area.”
Back in 2012, the New American reported that Harry Reid’s son, Rory Reid, was the chief representative for a Chinese energy firm planning to build a $5-billion solar plant on public land in Laughlin, Nevada.
And journalist Marcus Stern with Reuters also reported that Sen. Reid was heavily involved in the deal as well.

The irony is that the feds are coming in because (supposedly) that these cattle are endangering the Desert Tortoise.
But now that deserts in CA have been converted to solar power ”farms,” they have discovered that these are extremely destructive to Desert Tortoises!
Fact is this land grab (and other ”clean power” land grabs) are not clean or green.
Bats, Raptors (eagles, hawks, falcons, shrikes, owls and more) migrating birds (ducks, geese, swallows, and more) tortoises are all being wiped out by solar and wind ”farms.”
Shame on Harry Reid and his son or son-in-law for trying to stay in the shadows on their part of this.
He should stand proud and openly let America know how much money he is about to make.
All that said, it is merely a LEASE the rancher is losing, not like Kelo where imminent domain was used to take land and let it sit wasted since.

I spent years working in some of the wilder open places of the west, very much including Nevada, Wyoming, Idaho, etc. There is a deep loathing reaching outright hatred for the BLM among many ranchers and local authorities, even when they work closely with them.
One of the greatest is that much BLM land is wholly mismanaged. There is also rife cronyism.

Rory is Harry’s son. The Federal government “owns” almost 80 percent of Nevada. However, the lands in question are state and county public lands and not part of the Federal government’s portion. The BLM is claiming jurisdiction based on endangered species law. The Feds drove out all the other ranchers who also traditionally used the land for grazing. The reason for the traditional grazing agreement the State of Nevada had with ranchers going back long prior to the creation of the BLM, was because the grazing reduced the proliferation of desert plant-life which invariably in the dry summers resulted in wild range fires that destroyed all life in it’s path. The BLM has also been heavily removing herds of wild horses from the areas which means there will be fewer natural creatures to eat and clear away the vegitation before it becomes dry and flammable. This is another helping in the growing eco-based tyranny that the Federal government is unleashing all over the nation.
If the solar farms are built with no grazing allowed by cattle or wild horses, the solar farms will find themselves in perpetual and expensive wave after wave of raging range fires.

As a side point about cattle, we knew a guy who had a dairy and beef ranch.
One evening he was bringing in all his cattle and he fell at a choke point where ALL the animals had to squeeze through to get where they were RUNNING.
As he watched, flat on the muddy ground, every single animal stepped OVER him or AROUND him.
He didn’t suffer a scratch!
He was as amazed as were his family and friends who also ranch.

I’m not familiar with the geological survey of Nevada. During my drilling career I’ve met many Americans who had experience drilling geothermal holes in Nevada. I suppose that the Federalis have the mineral and drilling rights to these Federal lands. Are there oil shales in these regions? Who has the geothermal rights? I should ask around. Tortoises and solar farms? Without higher electrical rates and subsidies, in today’s world, solar panels are an investment sinkhole.

Quite true about the removal of wild horses from the open range. In that case, they’re using the “extreme drought conditions” as their excuse. Forget the fact there is little precipitation over the portion of the range they horses live on.

In Nevada, there is the Chainman Shale formation. Much of it sits in Nevada, with a small portion extending into Utah. Very little exploration has been done with the cancellation of exploration permits and leases by the Department of Interior in 2009. The Obama administration is not interested in shale development, but takes credit for their development conducted on private and state lands. With 85% of the land area in Nevada in federal hands, presumably they also have the mineral and water rights on those lands.

I saw which way the ball was bouncing with this administration when, very soon into it, his nibs went on TV bragging about his great environmentalism. He had signed one of his executive orders to forbid even exploration of federal lands in the Escalante region of Southern Utah. This not only locked the resources away, but also quashed investment on federal lands: much money had been already spent in gearing up for a play in Utah and suddenly, it was all gone. So true, no one would want to invest let alone risk that kind of money. In western Colorado, shale development was ready to take off when Salazar cancelled all the leases in 2009. Shell Oil which had invested nearly a billion, may be more, was not happy when the leases were cancelled. Shell got a couple leases back as “pilot projects”. I don’t know what’s to study because all the geological and environmental analyses have already been done.

Good points. In general, pilot projects are undertaken to assess the engineering and/or cost basis for further development after the resource has been identified, mapped, and geologically evaluated. The understanding is if the pilot processes work out and the cost/benefit is there, the main project goes ahead. I doubt very seriously that will be the result of these particular “pilots.”

I have wondered what the actual members of police departments, sheriff’s offices, and federal agencies are thinking about the situation they are in. Are they for it, against it, or don’t have enough info to decide either way? It would be great if each one could be asked anonymously what they thought of the situation. Are most of them really against what is going on, but afraid of loosing their jobs if they don’t do what they are told? We have to keep in mind that they are just doing their job by obeying their superiors.
If the feds are wrong, this is exactly why our founding fathers said there should be a militia.

So are wind farms, gasohol, and other alternative energy programs, but the businesses who make the devices they use can still make money selling them, knowing that they will cost more to operate than the profits they produce.
It is like a story on the news many years ago. They told about a foreign aid factory the USA built for a country. I don’t remember which one. This is how foreign aid USUALLY works. The factory had to be built by an American company. The dictator agreed, because he got his cut of the money. They had to hire local workers, so they were happy. The American contractor was paid to build the factory, so they were happy. The contractor donated to the politicians, so they were happy. EVERYBODY WAS HAPPY.
At the end of the story, they showed an areal view of the factory. It was a big factory, and it looked great from the air. Then the reporter said that the only problem was that the factory was built where there wasn’t any electricity.
Follow the money. It always seems to start with donations to politicians. I’m guessing that a lot of politicians got big donations from people who figure on making money off of the land. If I had enough money, I would donate enough to the politicians I believe in, and tell them just to do the right thing. That way they could vote their concience, and not worry about raising enough money for the elections.

Keep in mind that over the years there have been inventions that have given cars up to 100 miles per gallon, then either the devise, additive, or the inventor vanish. This has been going on all of my life. A news story will tell of a product that increases the mileage my 20%, and I wait for the device to show up in vehicles, but they never do. I’m told that the oil companies buy the patents, and never make the devices. I don’t know if it is true.

The only problem I have is the ones who lose their temper, start throwing out the cuss words, and even use threatening movements and language. They have to remember that they are the good guys, and that the propaganda media are only going to report on the most violent ones there, and use it as propaganda against them. I’m guessing that this was just a test to find out how the public would respond. I’m also guessing that they were surprised how many went, and from how far. Fox News mentioned New Hampshire.
I can’t take the heat, or I probably would have been there too. I hope this woke up the rest of the country, and if they try something like this someplace else, we will be called to action again.
This is why I have suggested that every state should start their own militia. This way they can legally have guns no matter what laws the feds may pass, because it is in the Constitution.

Important notes here: the land is owned by Clark County, but the county has been allowing BLM to manage the land. (in other words the ultimate jurisdiction is Clark County and The State of Nevada, NOT the BLM which was an invited entity. There were many more ranchers who also had cattle grazing on the land prior to 1993, but their ranches have folded since they gave in to the BLM’s continually changing demands to reduce their herds. The BLM ordered Bundy to reduce his almost 1000 head heard to 150 cattle, a number which Bundy said would not allow him enough profit to stay in business.

So, The Reid family’s answer to a “threatened” species, is allowing development on it’s lands, along with euthanasia of undefined numbers, if Democratic politicians stand to profit. It was good to see that the Nevada governor and the sheriff went to bat for Bundy. It’s obvious Congress won’t stand up to this administration as they have given it carte blanche to change laws whenever they want (amongst other abuses) and SCOTUS proved with their Obamacare ruling that they can no longer be trusted to uphold the Constitution. We no longer have any real constitutional safeguards at the federal level anymore. About the only thing they safeguard is their own jobs via freebies for their “clients”.

When I think about how many government agencies are PURPOSELY going against the US Constitution, and are trying to intimidate people and groups just exercising their rights as American citizens, I am afraid the government has been infiltrated with the purpose of turning the USA into a type of government our founding fathers wanted us to have militias so we could stop it from happening.

That makes Rory a hypocrite and a bully. to his discredit, host Jeff Gillan of KSNV’s What’s Your Point, did not hold Rory Reid’s feet to the fire and ask him to describe his dealings as a lobbyist for the Chinese company, whether it was a conflict of interest for him to represent a Foreign Company as a County Commissioner, or whether the company contributed to Rory’s political campaign.
This is not surprising, as viewers of What’s Your Point can easily understand that Gillan, like most of the Las Vegas FOX News team displays a decidedly left-wing bias in their reporting. It’s a shame that FOX seems unaware that their Las Vegas affiliate is in leftist control.

@ilovebeeswarzone: I saw that, but they were saying he should have disarmed the federal agents. That is something that wouldn’t have happened and he would have been less than smart to try and do so. This was obviously an emotionally charged situation for quite a few people and when emotions drive thought, bad things can happen.

@Ditto: I say let them bring Bundy to federal court if they believe he broke a federal law. That’s the way it’s supposed to work. You don’t show up and take someone’s property at gunpoint without having convicted him first. Reid, Obama, and company can then explain to the American people why they are enforcing the law with Bundy but won’t enforce it in other areas such as illegal immigrants. In addition, they can explain to the American people why the desert tortoises are endangered species where Bundy’s cattle graze but the ones where the Reids’ Chinese buddies want to put up their solar energy sites aren’t. Finally, they can explain why all of a sudden this became such a big issue when it has been 31 years since he was first brought to court over it.
