Governor Bobby Jindal has done for Louisiana what the U.S. Senate declined to do nationally.

On Monday, the office of the Louisiana governor announced that the Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals is terminating its contract with Planned Parenthood that provides the organization with state Medicaid funds.

The U.S. Senate voted 53 – 46 on Monday against advancing a bill that would end federal Medicaid funding to the Planned Parenthood Federation of America.

Several other states, including Tennessee, Indiana, Arizona and North Carolina, haveattempted to cut its Medicaid funding to Planned Parenthood clinics, but courts sided with Planned Parenthood and its allies, preventing that effort.

In a statement, Jindal said:

“In recent weeks, it has been shocking to see reports of the alleged activities taking place at Planned Parenthood facilities across the country.”

“Planned Parenthood does not represent the values of the people of Louisiana and shows a fundamental disrespect for human life. It has become clear that this is not an organization that is worthy of receiving public assistance from the state.”

According to the Medicaid provider contract between DHH and Planned Parenthood, either party can terminate the contract at any time, but the other party must be notified 30-days in advance. On Monday, DHH issued that notice.

Jindal’s action follows the release of four undercover videos that feature Planned Parenthood officials discussing the sale of fetal body parts, and how to alter an abortion procedure so the organs and body parts remain in tact.
