Chris Kyle, a former Navy SEAL who became known as the deadliest U.S. sniper, was one of two men murdered on Saturday afternoon at a gun range in Erath County. Police have a suspect in custody.
Three sources confirmed to News 8 that Kyle — who served in every major battle during Operation Iraqi Freedom — was shot dead at a gun range at Rough Creek Lodge, 53 miles southwest of Fort Worth.
The second victim was identified early Sunday morning as 35-year-old Chad Littlefield of Midlothian.
Eddie Routh, 25, is in custody in connection with the shootings.
Investigators said Routh, a former Marine who is said to suffer from post-traumatic stress syndrome, is believed to have turned his weapon on Kyle and the second victim, killing them both at point-blank range about 3:30 p.m.
An alert was issued for Routh, who was later captured after a short pursuit in Lancaster, south of Dallas.

This story leaves me speachless. As I pray for Kyle and his family, I also have to wonder how his happened. I don’t want to believe it was some kind of conspiracy, and I don’t want to believe it was solely PTSD either. I just don’t know what to believe, and I will suspicious of any story claiming to tell what happened from any source.
Liberals all over the net are already using this tragic killing of an American hero as another arrow in their quiver of gun control. No condolences to his family and friends, no thanking him for his service to our nation for keeping them free to what they do, nada.
It’s a sad day but you wouldn’t be able to tell it from the progressive opportunists amongst us. I read the mans book and it is indeed tragic that he survived so much only to be killed on American soil by an American.
Keep Chris Kyles family in your prayers and thoughts today. I have no doubt they need it.

This was a planed killing, an assassination. Marcus Luttrell’s comments were disgusting, another socialist. But what can you expect from a pres’ media puppet. Expect more targeted killing from the pres, oral office.
Wonder who will not take credit for the hit. Somewhere , Chris Kyle had to have pissed off some one.
As I indicated to this form when bidLaden was killed, all the members of Seal 6 would be dead within two years. There are too many loose ends and the actors in these types of operatons do not survive for any length of time.

I have no idea what actually happened, but I don’t think the part post-traumatic stress disorder might have played should be automatically written off. Keeping an open mind isn’t about the shooter in this incident. It’s about other honorable warriors who struggle to cope with invisible wounds. The people we send to war really do come back sometimes with profound psychological damage. This Routh person might or might not be one of them. He’s the one who needs to be judged.
@Greg: I’m not saying PTSD should be entirely written off, I have many close friends that suffer from its effects ( I do too, a mild case comparitively). The shooter is the one to be judged, no excuses should be made.

Yeah, I got that. I just wanted to get the point out there. I was thinking about the years just after Vietnam—how post-traumatic stress disorder was sometimes used as a handy excuse, and how other times it was made to seem trivial when it shouldn’t have been.
Just recently, there’s been that bunker hostage situation. Several stories were quick to identify the perpetrator as a Vietnam veteran, as if that fact alone might be part of some sort of explanation. He might have just as easily been identified as any number of other things. What they seemed to be implying bothered me.

If you had bothered to read some of the mil-blogs, you would have learned that the guy in the Georgia hostage situation never served in Vietnam. The closest he got was Japan.
@Greg: Some of the trivialization of PTSD came from Viet Nam ERA Vets, who never actually served in combat or even in Viet Nam itself. I dealt with quite a few people like that when I was a working cop and they were f’d up homeless alcoholics using non-existant PTSD as an excuse. Once I cornered them on thier bullshit, our “relationship” often changed and sometimes for the better.
As I said, I know a lot of legitimate PTSD sufferers, and they aren’t all military vets. Mine comes from my years of public service, seeing things up close and personal that nobody should have to witness, ever. And I am not alone, nor do I have a real bad case.
