About tonight’s horrific spectacle

Matt Walsh:

For the first 30 minutes, Trump was great. In fact I was legitimately impressed. He put Hillary on the defensive and she responded by cackling and stammering and flashing an evil grin like Nurse Ratched from One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest. Hillary is absolutely awful when you take her off her script. She knows how to do what she practiced, but she doesn’t know how to respond like a regular human person when she’s backed into a corner.

Unfortunately, the debate was not 30 minutes. It was 90 minutes. And those last 60 were a disaster for Trump. Period. And if you want him to win, you need to criticize him now and stop pretending everything he touches is gold. Or he will lose. Badly. That’s the situation. Time to deal with it.

Trump let Hillary get away with virtually every lie she told. She shrugged off her email scandal by calling it a mistake and Trump did not follow up. Later she spoke about the need for cyber security and Trump didn’t even bother bringing up that Clinton kept an unsecure server in her freaking bathroom.

Trump was put on the defensive on a number of issues and he didn’t handle the situation well. He rambled and babbled and allowed the discussion to stay on his own scandals and controversies rather than pivoting to Hillary.

Hillary blatantly called Trump a racist — THREE TIMES — and Trump had no retort, except to tell some strange story about how he hired some minorities once or something and it made him feel good. I don’t know. I could follow.

The subject turned to policing and racial issues and Trump never brought up the fact that Hillary has pandered to the mob and endangered police lives. Hillary also put the mother of an attempted cop killer on stage at her convention, but of course Trump made no mention of that.

Trump basically allowed Hillary to get away with everything, and only tried to hold her feet to the fire at the end for producing “not nice” ads about him. That’s what he got her on. Not Benghazi, not the emails, not speaking fees or anything else. Only that she was “not nice” in some ads.

He did briefly bring up the DNC’s railroading of Bernie Sanders but then stepped on his own point by transitioning that into a conversation about how his son likes to play computer games.

I will give him credit for one good line. When Hillary attacked Trump for stiffing some contractors who worked on one of his hotels, Trump shot back: “Yeah well Ambassador Stevens was your employee and he’s dead now.”

Just kidding. Trump didn’t say that. He just rambled for another 12 minutes while Hillary silently gave praise to Satan.

It was unbearable to witness, especially because I could see the glee seeping out of Clinton’s face. She can’t believe her luck. She’s a corrupt, lying, half-humanoid crook with a lifetime of scandal to her name, and the Republican nominee had little interest in talking about any of that tonight. Instead he spent 60 minutes defending his casinos and explaining why he should be given credit for making Obama release his birth certificate.

Trump did better than that and I saw Hillary’s eyes getting heavy as time went by.

Trump better show up for every debate no excuses. No charity fund raisers of any kind. He has to study how they got him on he defense rather than offense, improve on that.
I will say he didnt melt and try the little hands defense, he seemed a bit more practiced on issues rather than how great his poll numbers.
I hated he was for stepping on 2nd amendment rights being taken away because some asshole puts a citizen on a government list, (which includes a 7 month old baby) his but we can get you off the list sounds like an expansion of government.

Though I have no intention of voting for Trump or Hillary, it comes down to poor preparation by Trump. Relaxing, informal prep sessions the campaign said was how Trump prepared, it sounds more like bull sessions. He’ll need to up his game, show he can command policy detail and handle 90-120 minutes of what he perceives to be boring. Hopefully, he will not take Giuliani’s bad advice of dropping out of the remaining debates. But, then again Trump has a reputation of pulling out when things doesn’t go his way.

@David: He may be coming up with a worthy charity this minute such as… Orphans of officers killed in the line of duty. If he tries to weasle out for any reason he will be rightfully declared cowardly.

Don’t forget the obvious moderator bias. Trump has to be ready for that in the next debate. Didn’t seem like he was last night.

He has to be prepared to give substantive answers to substantive questions. One-liner slogans and evasive answers don’t work in a one-on-one debate. There’s not enough cover. People notice.

@Greg: Correct,so does Hillary, her claims of the Donald tax relief and raising Trump trickle down doesnt work, only falling on progressive ears , Clinton admin was the greatest benefactor of the Regan cuts, which they quickly frittered away. This strategy has historical evidence Democratic historical evidence http://www.heritage.org/research/reports/2003/08/the-historical-lessons-of-lower-tax-rates- As badly mired down with Obamacare, medicare expansions and regulations the huge US economy will take time to show true recovery it took Reagans policies time too.
Her Death tax is terrible, after paying all legal taxes on income your whole life, the Government still isnt done she wants to tax you for dying as well.
He talks as though he can chain companys to the US make them stay by force, sorry all he can do is encourage them to stay by undoing what progressive liberals have done to make them flee.
Barry saying he will undo all their progress is the best endorsement I have heard this election cycle so far.

@kitt, #7:

Correct, so does Hillary, her claims of the Donald tax relief and raising Trump trickle down doesn’t work, only falling on progressive ears…

A question about Trump’s tax returns is one of those substantive questions. It’s a serious warning flag. If a presidential candidate has extensive financial entanglements with foreign investors who might be directly controlled by a foreign government, this would be of enormous importance. If he has made untold millions by exploiting the very things he condemns, the public has a right to know.

Clinton’s assertion that trickle-down economics doesn’t work is arguably a factual statement. If the theory were valid, we wouldn’t have had the working and middle classes steadily losing ground as the economy grew and the richest grew steadily richer. It started out as a theory; it now looks more like a scam. Economic reality stands witness against it.

A healthy economy is built on the middle and working class being well-rewarded for their efforts. In a healthy, growing economy, they purchase the goods and services they themselves produce, using the money they earn from their participation in the productive process to do so. Henry Ford understood the mechanism. An arrangement that reduces their rewards also diminishes their incentives, as well as their ability to purchase goods and services. If that cycle continues, the economy slows, debt increases, and the nation as a whole ceases to prosper.

Which isn’t to say that some people don’t still get rich. It’s entirely possible for some to profit enormously from economic dysfunctions that are highly detrimental to the vast majority. There are some highly successful people who have made a career of it.

@Greg:

And the hildabeast does not have foreign interests in her having donated millions of dollars to the Clinton cash grab initiative.

The hildabeast has already demonstrated her pension to cave to her foreign interests based in her failure tenure as Secretary of State.

@Greg: So JFK was a scammer? The boom of the 60s after the cuts was just an illusion, and after Reagan that boom the one the Clintons rode on non existent.
I really hope Trump hasn’t paid 1 thin dime for income taxes, aside the fact the tax is unconstitutional, they waste money and give it away to terrorists while our vets get crappy government care if they get an appointment at all. Whats your comment on the Clinton foundation becoming a new government department?
4th of July shortened my post very nicely see #9.

Giuliani: Lewinsky shows Clinton ‘too stupid to be president’

It will be interesting to see if Trump takes this idiot’s advice in Round 2. Giuliani’s words will tempt him, but I think it would be a miscalculation that could easily cost him the election in one stroke. It will work out. If he’s not clever enough to correctly perform the calculation, he’s not clever enough for the Oval Office.

Giuliani is crazy. He’s counseling a known serial adulterer on his third marriage to a wife scarcely older than his own daughter to go after a woman who kept her single marriage together despite her husband’s repeated misbehavior. How do you suppose Hillary Clinton would respond to that sort of attack on a debate stage? If Trump has a brain, he won’t give her the opening. She’d turn it on him in the blink of an eye, and there wouldn’t be an undecided woman voter left who would vote for him.

If he hasn’t, he’s just another freeloader who gives nothing back to the system he has exploited to become wealthy.

Perhaps you should consider moving to a country where no taxes are required. Your choices will be limited to the Cayman Islands, Quatar, Kuwait, Sark, the United Arab Emirates, and the British Virgin Islands.

@Greg: If he hasn’t, he’s just another freeloader lol.
Who pays many people who pay taxes in as they dont have the legal write offs of expenses and depreciation he has. Dont like it revise the tax code, I suppose you are one of the morons who believe ranchers are getting corporate style welfare using or renting public owned lands.
Nope not moving, going to hang out to irritate liberals.

Matt, The Donald MUST absolutely MUST learn to give short clear concise answers, learn not to change the thought process in the middle of a statement/sentence. He gets a pass on this one, sort of but he has to step up his game and stop blabbing.

@Greg: No one cares what a paid troll has to say.

@kitt: Income tax on businesses is another area that Greg knows nothing about. So, that means Greg is an expert in……….. Can not think of 1 thing!

@Randy: He most likely uses H&R for Blockheads, I hear they are reasonably priced for the EZ form.

@Oblamo binLyen:

He gets a pass on this one, sort of but he has to step up his game and stop blabbing.

He’s gotten countless of passes on countless of things that would have sank most any candidate in history.

If he gets a pass on bragging about having $8 billion but paying 0 taxes as being “smart” and bragging about cheating contractors and workers out of their pay for a job well done as being “good business”, at what possible point could he say something that might be a disqualifier? Is there anything this dangerous, theiving egomaniac could say or do that would be a game changer for a Trump supporter?
