WaPo’s report on the DNC convention run up dazzles the imagination of “what ifs”. In Anne E. Kornblut Aug 8th article, “Democratic Aides Working on Plan To Keep the Peace At the Convention”, we have a picture of Obama and Clinton camps trying to sort out just how this convention… and both Hillary and Bill… will be played. And just how this party is going to appear united behind His Messiahship.

Hillary’s camp is playing it well… innocently suggesting a good venting for her disgruntled supporters is the way to go. This, of course, means putting Hillary on the roll call and allowing a vote… even if she loses.

Exactly what the formal nominating process will look like at the convention remains an open question. Last week, Hillary Clinton told supporters in a meeting in Palo Alto, Calif., posted on YouTube, that she was looking for a “strategy” to keep the peace and that sometimes a “catharsis” is necessary. Her comments were read by some as suggesting that the process could require a roll-call vote that would enumerate her supporters, even though she would still lose the nomination.

“The best way I think to do that is to have a strategy so that my delegates feel like they’ve had a role and that their legitimacy has been validated,” she said.

“It’s as old as Greek drama,” Clinton said. “There’s a catharsis. Everybody comes, and they want to yell and scream and have their opportunity, and I think that’s all to the good.”

WaPo prefaced Obama’s reaction in a way that caught my interest…

AM I the only one who’s noticed the silence? Mere months ago, left-wing bloggers and demonstrators were wailing Support our troops, bring them home! seven days a week. Now their presidential candidate has announced that he won’t bring all those troops home, but will simply transfer combat forces from Iraq to Afghanistan - expanding that war. (He’s discussed possibly invading Pakistan, too.) And the left’s quiet as a graveyard at midnight.

Hmmm, it is awful quiet all of a sudden.

Bush is on the way out - are your principles leaving with him? Have you stopped to wonder if BHO might not be your LBJ?   You told us that “War doesn’t change anything,” and “War is never the answer.” Shouldn’t you be lobbying your candidate to give peace a chance?  Shame, shame, shame. You’ve elevated hypocrisy to an art form.

This piece was spot-on-the-money.  The anti-war movement’s mantras are silent, and the only explanation is that they were never sincerely anti-war; just political catalysts for expressing an anti-Bush sentiment.

Senator John McCain has made a name for himself as a Maverick in Congress because he’s gone against his party line so often.  Senator Obama has always voted along with his party line, but he’s campaigned successfully by portraying himself as a man who can unite the nation and end partisan divisiveness.  Long before Senator Obama’s efforts to paint himself as a “uniter,” President Bush ran in 1999 and 2000 as a “uniter” who would end the deep partisan divide that had been created in Congress and the nation.

For the past six years the core of America’s political divide has been national policy regarding Iraq; the invasion, occupation, and reconstruction of Iraq.  Very soon, all three men will find themselves in a strange position-dictated no longer by the political expediency and potential gain from politicizing the war one way or the other, but rather by the conditions on the ground, and the actions of American forces as well as allied and enemy forces.  This strange position is one of a new unified Iraq policy that will alienate political bases, but it also threatens to pull the core crutch issue for both Republicans and Democrats off the debate floor.

The new Iraq policy?

From one of my favorite Democrats, Uppity Woman.

The close-up of the dead donkey.

Not sure I’d say the Party is dead, but there does seem to be something wrong with the Kool-Aid.

The New York Times thinks the inmates have taken over the asylum in planning the Democrat Convention in Denver. It started out a week ago with the DNC Food Nazis telling everyone what they can and cannot eat (nothing new there). In this post, Idiot, Control-Freak, Do-Gooder Liberals, it was noted.

Warning to Southern delegates to the 2008 Democratic National Convention in Denver this August: it will be a no-fry zone.

As part of the effort to make the August 25-28 convention the greenest ever, the Democrats’ guidelines for food catering include one that strikes at the heart of Southern cuisine: no fried food.

No fried chicken. No fried catfish. No fried green tomatoes. No fried okra. No fried anything.

In promoting healthy eating habits, the Democratic guidelines say every meal should be nutritious and include “at least three of the following colors: red, green, yellow, purple/blue and white.”

Shockingly, the people in the food business, who have real jobs that actually produce something, think the politicians are a bunch of dolts (nothing new there). Read the rest of this entry »

Promises, promises:

Obama was perplexed that his statement on Iraq was dissected as it was.

“I was a little puzzled by the frenzy that I set off by what I thought
was a pretty innocuous statement,” he said. “I am absolutely committed to ending
the war.”

On Thursday in North Dakota, Obama said that “I’ll …
continue to refine my policy” on Iraq after an upcoming trip there.

Democrats have long been promising to “End the War in Iraq Now!”, telling their moveon-dot-org constituency one thing, while attempting to legislate surrender bills that say something a lot more nuanced. Representative Paul Kanjorski was caught admitting that Democrats lied for political power:

Following the Obama, Clinton unity party in Unity, New Hampshire the Democratic Party is still divided. Barack and Hillary said all the right things,

“We have stood toe to toe in the hard-fought primary,” Clinton said. Now, she told the crowd, they are “shoulder to shoulder” and “our paths have merged.”

When Clinton said, “I am proud that we had a spirited dialogue,” the crowd started to chuckle. She paused and added, for an even bigger laugh, “That was the nicest way I could think of phrasing it.”

It seems that Hillary’s hard-core supporters are not buying it. One day after the Obama and Clinton had their little unity party a group of pro-Hillary vandals tagged 60 vehicles in Orlando, Florida with anti-Obama and anti-McCain messages.

This is just more evidence that Obama is having a hard time winning over another key demographic that supported Hillary; criminals. Criminals have long been a key voting block for the Democratic Party, they have fought to restore voting rights to felons and objected in 2000 when Florida removed convicts from the voting rolls. Salon.com argued that Al Gore would be President today if these felons where allowed to vote.

The question we all need to ask is, can McCain appeal to the criminal vote that was once the exclusive domain of the Clintons? Or will they eventually grit their teeth and vote for Barack?

Yes, that’s lower than any other Federal Institution in history apparently. Gotta hand it to em’…it IS a “New Direction.”

Curious, will others who voted Democrats into Congress hold them to account as I do, or will there be nothing but excuses (my favorite remains the idea that Dems need more seats/absolute power to get things done…yeah, real spirit of bi-partisanship there, real “NEW DIRECTION”

RED MEAT

Implications
The poor economy and lack of effective government action on important issues such as gas prices, the Iraq War, and immigration help contribute to the erosion of trust and confidence in government institutions. Earlier this week, Gallup reported historically low job approval ratings for the three branches of the federal government. These confidence in institutions ratings underscore the public’s frustration and signal an electorate that may be hungry for change in Washington come the fall’s elections.

There was a seemingly innocuous piece on Politico the other day. I saw it, and kept going, but my mind kept wandering back to it. It was titled, “Obama moves DNC operations to Chicago.”

In a major shakeup at the Democratic National Committee — and a departure from tradition — large parts of the committee’s operations are relocating to Chicago to be fully integrated with the Obama campaign.

The DNC’s political department, housed in Washington, D.C., will be dramatically rebuilt, with staffers offered a choice of moving to Chicago, joining state operations, or staying in Washington, DNC spokeswoman Karen Finney said.

But the power will clearly be shifting to a centralized Chicago hub.

The DNC’s key role in coordinating political operations with state parties is expected to largely be taken over and overseen by Obama’s senior staff in Chicago, state party officials said.

I realize that the nominee, as the head of the party, gets to call the shots at the DNC. And the inside baseball angle of staffers being ticked off at losing their jobs is news in and of itself. But the breadth, depth, and wholesale nature of the takeover of the party apparatus seems extreme. DNC staffers who don’t move to Chicago are gone. Those that make the move will answer directly to Obama’s hand picked generals. No discussion. No dissension. Read the rest of this entry »

This would make his dad proud. The New York Times does a piece on how much of a wuss Obama is and they think they are doing him a favor. Sometimes you have to get on your knees and be thankful that the Left says stuff for which the Right would be crucified, and then the Right gets to beat them over the head with it and thank them for the pull quotes.

From a New York Times Op-Ed, via the inimitable Moe Lane at RedState, 2008 is the election of the Girlie-Man v. John Wayne. Read the rest of this entry »

Last week the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence released the final findings of their four year investigation into pre-war intelligence on Saddam’s Iraq.  The report was amazing.  In direct contradiction, on the very first page of the report, Democrats controlling the committee chose to seize the opportunity to target the Bush Administration and cover up any and all accountability for anyone else (particularly themselves) regarding pre-invasion statements about how threatening Saddam’s regime was to the United States.  Previous reports have been bi-partisan and even unanimously supported by the committee.  This one was not.  This time, the Republican minority used their allotted “Additional Comments” section of the report to flat out accuse Senate Democrats of a cover-up, of distorting the report’s findings, and of deliberately misleading the American people at the specific expense of degrading the capability of  American intelligence agencies.  Read the rest of this entry »

Obama has succeeded in separating the wheat from the chaff in the Democrat party.

We hear about these groups of disaffected Hillary voters who are resolved not to vote for Obama. A full 59% of Hillary voters in the West Virginia primary said that if Obama got the nomination, they would either vote for McCain or not vote at all. Obama and the DNC are desperately trying to unite the party, and though intra-party squabbles are usually ironed out by November, this year is without precedent. One cannot assume, as they say, that past experience is an accurate predictor of future performance.

Many Hillary Democrats seem to be taking a serious, principled stand in opposing Obama. It is not that they like McCain. They just think Obama would be very bad for America. After 8 years of George W. Bush, you would think party loyalty would prevail at all costs. But you would be wrong. Read the rest of this entry »

I Love the internet. In just a few clicks, you can go back in time and see what promises a politician made, and compare that to today.

With oil prices hitting a high this week and prices at the pump topping $3 a gallon in many places, Amy Klobuchar, a Democratic Senate candidate in Minnesota, is making the issue the centerpiece of her campaign. Ms. Klobuchar says it “is one of the first things people bring up” at her campaign stops. To varying degrees, Democrats around the country are following a similar script that touches on economic anxiety and populist resentment against oil companies. “It’s a metaphor for an economy that keeps biting people despite overall good numbers,” said Senator Charles E. Schumer of New York, chairman of the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee. Mr. Schumer said Democratic candidates in 10 of the 34 Senate races this year had scheduled campaign events this week focusing on gasoline prices.

We can see in seconds if the politician was just a liar, a panderer, capable, inept, or sincere vs insincere. Read the rest of this entry »

After today’s Hillary speech, I wandered over to catch up with the current ‘tudes of Hillary’s No Quarter gang.  One of the commenters posted a link to the current YouTube video from Pastor James David Manning of Atlah World Ministries.

I’m not much informed on Pastor Manning myself, but evidenced by his appearance on H & C back on March 27th (transcript here), he’s no Obama fan.  Plus he has a pretty fire’y and risque method of preaching himself.

Pastor Manning specifically states he has evidence of serious lack of moral fiber on Obama.  He has mulled over the pleas of Hillary supporters to release this evidence prior to Denver, but Pastor Mannings has his own alternative in mind… and that is to have Hillary run Independent.  To release it to Hillary as a DNC candidate equates to rewarding the DNC, whom he calls “Constitutional criminals”.

Whether this can be related to the purported Michelle O tape - (update from Larry Johnson here) - is questionable in it’s foundation. Afterall, he did not suggest it was Michelle’s lack of morality, but Obama’s himself. Plus, Johnson insists the Michelle O tape is in the hands of the evil GOP.

I guess the world can only wait patiently to see just who is concealing what on the inside scoops on Obama’s character, and just what each individual’s motivation is for choosing the timed release of the  hinted at bombshells.
