Readers could send in essays, 400 words or less, about the relevance of the 2nd Amendment today.

#1

I was born where?

#2

When the Second Amendment was ratified, those who put it into law likely never realized how controversial it would be in today’s society, and how much it would be scrutinized. Yet today, more than ever, it’s importance has been recognized by those who still hold the Constitution dear.

But as seems to happen more and more, some of the leaders in our country today feel the need to pick apart the very document that gives them the authority to be in their position.

The biggest step toward tyranny is Big Government, and the biggest step towards big government is taking away the rights and protections of citizens. The biggest step toward removing those rights is gun control.

That is precisely why the Second Amendment is so relevant in the world we are in today. With clear and simple language, this law was added to the Constitution, and with smooth words and catchy phrases some attempt to push it out.

Oh, they wont try to get it removed, these people will come as the greatest defenders of your rights- they will say how they’re for the little guy. But then they will appoint judges who will ignore the very rules that were set for his protection.

When the government has finally escaped from the second amendment with judges who rule from the bench, they will take away our guns, and with it our freedom, our liberty, and our Republic.

The Liberals in America today have misused quotes of Thomas Jefferson to remove our rights, but they cannot refute this truth, in which he summed the situation all up better than any politician can today:

“When the people fear their government, there is tyranny; when the government fears the people, there is liberty.“

#3

Militias. Armed Revolt. The 2nd Amendment was introduced at a time when the founders had fresh in their minds the success of the American Revolution, fought in large part by REAL citizen soldiers armed with their personal hunting rifles. But (thinks the reasonable person) that was a wholly different time. The right to bear arms is outmoded in a stable republic. And he would be right. If there could ever be such a thing as a “stable” republic.

The 2nd Amendment isn’t a Revolution-era footnote explaining how we got here. It’s a foot in the door of liberty in case that door ever swung closed.

Our Constitution is perishable. The only thing keeping it alive is the active force of the law it details. Undermine the force of law, and the Constitution evaporates. And law is easily undermined. Activist judges. Czars. Legislative creep unchecked by Stare Decisis lethargy. States are threatening to assert their rights against the federal government in a manner unseen since the civil rights era. Is the thought that citizens may need to stand up against tyranny so unthinkable that we would ignore the only physical protection we have to do so?

#4

WELL, at the risk of sounding naive…The 2nd Amendment is more important than ever:

1. BECAUSE, government does NOT want us to have the right.
1 1/2. AND, they don’t want us to have any rights.
2. Because they want us to trust them..YEAH, RIGHT…NOT.
3. So we can owe them taxes and our lives???
4. What happens when we cannot pay the taxes?..if we exist by then?
5. Whatever this government wants, I know I am against.
6. NWO and police state comes to mind as a reason to be armed.
7. Has this government said our Constitution is gone? NO…THEY
*are too darn sneaky.
8. I know they should be fired and get NO severance pay whatsoever!
**********
GUNS=SNUG (backwards)…need I say more? NOT.

#5

The 2nd Amendment is still relevant to Americans today as it makes them feel independent and secure against any perceived external threats. This could range from wild animals, hostile injuns or any rabid socialists. It’s empowering and it also gives a finger up to the Federal Government and any of those fools who whinge on about safety. Because as Americans know it’s not guns that kill people – it’s people. Have you ever seen an AK walk into a convenience store by itself? Nope. And if the bad dudes didn’t have guns then they would find other ways to do bad stuff to all the good folk out there. Hell those 9/11 hijackers didn’t have guns and see what they did. If it wasn’t guns it would be knives, sharp pointy sticks or something. And if you ban guns it doesn’t get rid of guns. It only means that honest folk are disarmed but all those robbers, rapists and other rascals will still have lead. Americans have the right to protect their property, to shoot and ask questions later. The country was taken by guns and guns will be necessary to keep it the way it is.

Now because the occasional little kid might find their way into daddy’s armory and shoot themselves in the head – doesn’t mean America should ban guns. The problem isn’t the gun – it’s the lack of gun education. Every kid should be taught at school – in 5th grade – how to load and shoot a .45. That way the little critters will respect guns and won’t be tempted to treat it like a toy or go postal on their classmates. Also think how many victims would be alive now if they only had guns to protect themselves? 9/11 wouldn’t of happened if air passengers were all armed to the teeth. Mohammed wouldn’t be so confident about hijacking planes then if he knew his ass would be full of lead if he so even made his way anywhere near the cockpit. Overall America was great because of its frontier spirit andto fulfill its Manifest Destiny in God’s name. America is approaching it high noon – and like Gary Cooper – America has to face up to these liberals who want emasculate their own country – to literally cut America balls off. Instead of words these traitors need to respect or be taken down by the gun. Live free or die!

#6

The Relevance of the Second Amendment in Today’s United States

Our founding fathers had a profound understanding of the importance for the citizenry to “keep and bear arms.” Without this right, America would never have become an independent nation. Along with troops of trained soldiers, many private citizens, armed with their squirrel guns, stood up to British tyranny.

Just as the US was born of the firearm, so it grew. Settlers depended on their guns to protect their families and to procure food. Westward expansion would never have been possible without armed pioneers. Private ownership of guns is an integral part of our heritage, and one that has not diminished with the passage of time.

Today, as in the past, gun ownership is a right guaranteed by the Constitution. Modern police forces and the branches of the military have not erased or negated our need and desire to bear arms. Many law-abiding citizens feel safe in the knowledge that they can offer adequate protection for themselves and for their families in these uncertain times. In fact, our need to be personally armed might be even more necessary today.

Hunting is also part of our legacy. Stalking and killing wild game is ingrained in many of us. Putting food on the table that was harvested by our own efforts and cunning skill provides the ultimate sense of freedom and independence. It’s true Americana and all but impossible without the Second Amendment.

Who knows what the future holds for America? Our economic foundation is quickly crumbling, and whispers of political unrest are rumbling across the land. Food shortages, riots, and domestic and international terrorism could ensue. If and when that happens, it will be the well armed citizens who survive – the ones who can hunt and kill their own meat and who can protect their food and other belongings from those who would take it.

The Second Amendment will always be held dear by a huge number of Americans. It’s in our blood. It’s part of our independent spirit. It’s part of what makes us Americans.

A few days ago ABC noted a list of the top 100 political blogs and Flopping Aces made the list. Number 62 to be exact, ahead of some might fine blogs (take it with a grain of salt tho….check it out, Hot Air and Ace of Spades didn’t make the list, wacky). The sad thing is that these blogs are pretty much the only source for information that would dare be critical of Obama seeing as how our msm display a embarrassing amount of bias for him. For example, Evan Thomas of Newsweek calling him some kind of god:

Granted, he is not calling him God but rather, literally, saying that compared to other men he is all-knowing and all-powerful.

Then we have Brian Williams who’s “unprecedented” access to the White House led him to produce an embarrassing lovefest for Obama. It was so bad even Jon Stewart, a man not know for unbiased opinions, had to make fun of it:

Partial transcript via Newsbusters:

JON STEWART, HOST: This is a huge coup for NBC. When you get this kind of unprecedented access, you can cross-promote.

BRIAN WILLIAMS: The TV version of the “West Wing” on NBC has only been off the air for three years.

WILLIAMS TO OBAMA: Have you seen the depictions of you, Fred Armisen, “Saturday Night Live,” what do you think?

STEWART: And speaking of Chuck, look who’s just stopped by, Zachary Levi star of “Chuck” returning this fall. Mr. President, do you find “NCIS” has become formulaic? One final question: Today, must-see TV is just a suggestion. You have the power to make it Law…and Order.

STEWART: By the way, the show’s host clearly has the hots for the breakout star.

And then you have Richard Wolffe who worked alongside the Olbermonkey praising every single footstep Obama made while not disclosing to those who employ him and those who use him for information that he was in cohoots with Obama writing a book about him. A book that Obama even suggested the name for:

It was Barack Obama himself who first proposed that Newsweek reporter Richard Wolffe make a play to be this generation’s Theodore White—the legendary journalist whose insider account of the 1960 election painted John F. Kennedy in heroic light.

In the 2008 version, Obama provided the insider access. And Wolffe lavishly delivered on the heroic-light end of the bargain.

But the early response to his new book, “Renegade: The Making of a President” has made one thing clear: Wolffe is not living in a Teddy White era of journalism.

Far from vaulting him to the top ranks of the profession — as happened to White and a parade of other reporters with intimate access to winning presidential candidates —Wolffe’s Obama journey ended with him out of mainstream political reporting, making his living as a public relations operative.

And far from being the toast of Newsweek, which once built its franchise around reporters who were close to the powerful, Wolffe now has a frosty relationship with his former employer.

At a book party at Washington’s Café Atlantico Monday night, there were quail eggs and caviar but no Newsweek editors, who declined to speak on-the-record about Wolffe or his book.

Some of his former colleagues grumble privately that the magazine gained little of news value from Wolffe’s access to Obama and his inner circle, and suggest he lost detachment as he became more enraptured by a politician with whom he shares personal and ideological sympathies.

Of course once the book was out he could no longer pretend to be a journalist, but rather a PR man for Obama. He used his access to enrich himself rather then report the facts, ask the tough questions, and criticize the man when it was deserved….and there has been plenty to criticize him for so far.

This is the media that is watching our President folks.

Robert Samuelson see’s it as dangerous:

The Obama infatuation is a great unreported story of our time. Has any recent president basked in so much favorable media coverage? Well, maybe John Kennedy for a moment, but no president since. On the whole, this is not healthy for America.

Our political system works best when a president faces checks on his power. But the main checks on Obama are modest. They come from congressional Democrats, who largely share his goals if not always his means.

~~~
The infatuation matters because Obama’s ambitions are so grand. He wants to expand health-care subsidies, tightly control energy use and overhaul immigration. He envisions the greatest growth of government since Lyndon Johnson. The Congressional Budget Office estimates federal spending in 2019 at nearly 25 percent of the economy (gross domestic product). That’s well up from the 21 percent in 2008, and far above the post-World War II average; it would also occur before many baby boomers retire.
Are his proposals practical, even if desirable? Maybe they’re neither? What might be the unintended consequences? All “reforms” do not succeed; some cause more problems than they solve. Johnson’s economic policies, inherited from Kennedy, proved disastrous; they led to the 1970s’ “stagflation.” The “war on poverty” failed. The press should not be hostile, but it ought to be skeptical.
Mostly, it isn’t. The idea of a “critical” Obama story is one about a tactical conflict with congressional Democrats or criticism from an important constituency. Larger issues are minimized, despite ample grounds for skepticism.
~~~

The press has become Obama’s silent ally and seems in a state of denial. But the story goes untold: Unsurprisingly, the study of all the favorable coverage received little coverage.

And while unemployment hits figures haven’t seen since 1982 our media still fawns over Obama’s date night in Paris.

This is our media….

Any wonder the paper news and many of the network news are failing while the alternative media, such as Flopping Aces, is gaining popularity?

Today I came across a tweet by TommyXtopher:

Will be off the grid for awhile dealing with the fact that I just got fired by PoliticsDaily.com…

Yes, you read that correctly, an in-the-tank liberal media guy was fired. What is the world coming to?

In a recent article entitled “Bad Bunny“ Tommy takes on the Playboy’s vicious slam on conservative women. In response to the negative feedback generated by the article Playboy pulled the article. However, Caleb Howe captured screen shots – WARNING: NSFW! It is a good illustration of the new era of peace ushered in by the Obama administration. Vile attacks on conservative women are commonplace in this new era.

While it is one thing to attack conservatives in with impunity, it is absolutely intolerable to go against another player in the Party. There is zero tolerance for dissent amongst Democrats and liberals – one strike and your out.

In an interview with NewsBusters, Christopher recounts his success as a writer for AOL:

As Christopher notes in the statement he released to NewsBusters he was a productive and successful writer for AOL. He is a well respected, widely read, and widely linked writer. His stories and opinions have been featured on Bill O’Reilly, Hot Air, Red State, The College Politico, The Daily Kos, The Huffington Post, and even NewsBusters. It seems highly unlikely that AOL fired him for lack of performance and it is important to note that nobody has claimed that as of now.

With all of this it seems that coincidental timing is an extremely hard sell for why Tommy Christopher was fired by AOL News today. It appears that Christopher was intent on covering a story which he found to be particularly important but that Aol News had “internally decided” was off limits.

Has the fact that AOL’s parent company, Time Warner, has a business relationship with Playboy may have affected their editorial decisions? After all Time Warner is a major national distributor of Playboy TV through their cable company.

I have met Tommy personally and find I disagree with everything he says. To his credit, he has learned never to cross me and has personally apologized for his rude behavior during a past conversation. As much as I disagree with him, I agree that he has a right to speak his mind – even if I believe he has lost his

I was surprised to see he included me in one of his recent articles. Tommy is a good writer and liberal, he is bound to rebound from this debacle.

For years and years I was labeled, harassed, attacked, and otherwise been the object of hatred. They called me a “NEOCON.” Why? Well, many opponents of success in Iraq said they called me “NEOCON” because I supported America’s effort to succeed in Iraq. They said that it was impossible to succeed; to stay in Iraq until it was secure and stable enough to ensure that a 3rd invasion wouldn’t be necessary after leaving.

Last night, it came to me: I am no longer a NEOCON. Today, I am a liberal. I am an Obama fan.

Obama may have opposed the invasion of Iraq in 2002 because of political expediency (his primary campaign contributor in Chicago told him, “You damn well better oppose this thing” before his first big campaign speech on the subject). He may have opposed success in Iraq 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, and in 2008, but in 2009-after being elected-my desired outcome in Iraq was embraced by President-elect Obama: to stay in Iraq until it is secure and stable enough to ensure that a 3rd invasion won’t be necessary. My preferred Iraq policy became the liberal Iraq policy. The policy hasn’t changed-only the face on it, and with that change of faces came a change of endorsement: from neonazicon repukes to kinder, gentler, more-caring, and more intellectual liberals. Since that change…no one opposes success in Iraq anymore.

Torture? I’ve never been a fan of torture. It’s an awful thing, and that should go without saying. However, if 50,000 lives can be saved by putting a guy in a box with a caterpillar, well, at that point my objections become less vocal/more silent. It turns out…my position is the exact same as the Democrats’! Speaker Pelosi, and almost two dozen members of the House and Senate Intelligence Committees were briefed on the “Enhanced Interrogation Techniques,” and no one really objected. They were in the same frame of mind as me: it’s awful, but…if everything else has been tried, and it’ll save tens or hundreds of thousands of lives, then I bow to the sin of omission and say nothing. Guess I’m a liberal on that one too.

Iran? Gosh, it’s terrible that the Iranians are killing American soldiers, Iraqis, and Afghans, and the idea of them making nuclear bomb factories scares me, but I totally favor talking to them first; if for no other reason than to say we tried, to appease those who think that talks always work, and to unite the nation and the world against their intractability. Sad to say, but I also think the military option has to remain on the table. When Bush said that, and when I supported it…I was a “NEOCON.” Now, Obama says we have to keep the military option open, and…I’m no longer a warmonger, but a supporter of a liberal President. WOOHOO!

Spending? I agree that there’s too much govt spending, that cuts need to be made, that we need a return to pay-as-you-go spending, an end to deficit spending, a fix for Social Security, Medicare/Medicaid reform, and a massive govt effort to switch to renewable energy sources. Now, Democrats took Congress in 2006 based on these promises, and I support them. I voted for a Democrat-candidates for both the House and Senate in 2006. 3yrs later we have a President who (despite pushing a $3.8 TRILLION budget w a $2TRILLION deficit) has pledged the same things. I guess those are liberal ideas…though, I’m not sure what happened to them. Am I more liberal than the Democrats in Congress on spending?

Wanna bailout US automakers and hand over their control to the unions? Yeah, I’m for that. ‘Course, I’m for it because the unions will take the dying companies, kill them completely, which will kill union power, and thus kill “organized labor” control over the Democratic Party, but I am for it. Whatever my motivation, I embrace this liberal policy.

Wanna bailout banks? Sure. Go ahead. I’m for it. Let’s face it, if ever there was an entity that needs money…it’s banks (think about that for a moment).

Today, I’m a liberal Democrat.

I Apologize to the readers for today’s headaches when trying to view the blog. Sometime after Word’s Miss California post some plugins started acting up. We’re not sure which one yet but we’ve narrowed it down to the ones that pulled the recent comments, counted the pageviews and gave the top 10 lists, which you now see are gone from the sidebar….for now.

These plugins never gave me problems before so it’s very suspicious. I’m not ready to say it was a hack at this point (granted, Word’s post seemed to piss off a few lefties who are now gleeful that the site was down) but my server guru is going through the log and tracking down the problem. Until then those items will not appear in the sidebar.

UPDATE

Today my server guy discovered that we were indeed hacked. I will explain more after a day or so to ensure we have a handle on the attack. Meanwhile the recent comments and a lot of the toys are gone from the sidebar. For recent comments please check out the Active Discussions page. I will re-enable those plugins after we’re certain they won’t cause problems.

UPDATE II

Whoakay, the scoop. Apparently during the last hack of the site almost a year ago a bot was placed on our server which allowed someone to hack into the site whenever they wanted. The domains used in the script originated from Russia so I have no idea what that is about but all that has been secured. Thankfully my web designer and server guru, Mike from Aria Interactive has been a godsend. He is quite the detective and has help root out all these hack attempts. You ever need a hosting service check these guys out.

Hopefully the comment stuff on the sidebar will be back up soon. The post count stuff has already gone back up. Thanks for your patience.
