Social Security – the Third Rail of Politics [Reader Post]

We all have seen the affect of entitlements on the annual budget and deficit. The big items are the entitlement programs – Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid. They are items that are set to take up an ever larger part of the American budget. As can be seen in the above article’s chart, entitlements and interest will absorb all government spending by 2025. Here we examine Social Security ONLY because it is, by far, the largest FY 2012 “mandatory entitlement.”

Obama’s and Schumer’s Connections to Fannie Mae [Reader Post]

I am currently reading Reckless Endangerment by Gretchen Morgenson and Josh Rosner. I highly recommend it. This book names names, exposes policies and schemes, and will make you very mad with all of politics of the current economic mess. It documents the role of James Johnson and his tenure at the head of FNMA (Fannie Mae) in the 1990s, and his role in the housing price collapse/financial crisis of 2008. It focuses on James Johnson, Senator Chris Dodd (D-CT), and Representative Barney Frank (D-MA).

Politics and Policy, Then Anarchy? [Reader Post]

Today I was reading an article by Jack Dunphy about Los Angeles, California, policemen and fire fighters.1 The article was written with a very pro-union slant by a current member of the LAPPL. While I am not a union sympathizer, the article was quite thought provoking, particularly about the future of this country. So, having nothing better to do, I did some research about this country’s politics and policies, and what is currently happening in Europe. What I found may surprise you, may make you angry, and (hopefully) forewarn you.

The Politics of Central Planning and How It Affects Obama’s Reelection Chances [Reader Post]

President Obama and his administration have had a difficult (at best) time with his economic policies, and those policy decisions will (if we do our job) have an effect upon his reelection prospects. So let’s examine his policies and be knowledgeable so WE are ready to spread the word. As Lao-tzu (604 BC – 531 BC) said, “People are difficult to govern because they have too much knowledge.”

Obama Economy – Why Are We Here and What Do His Policies Portend for 2012? [Reader Post]

There are quite a lot of opinions about Obama’s reelectability in the face of bad economic news. The national debt is up, economic growth is slow, jobs are not being produced as promised, house prices continue to fall, and employers are complaining about policy uncertainty.1 So it will be very interesting to see just where we are, how we got here, and how the economy will effect Obama’s reelection.

Obama's "Katrina" Moment? [Reader Post]

As the Mississippi River flooding continues, New Orleans, directly on the river, is in the path of flooding. Water is water, regardless of its source. Whether it comes from a flood or a hurricane (Katrina comes to mind), it damages.

Do you remember how President George W. Bush was castigated by the MSM after Hurricane Katrina? He was hit hardest by (the late) Tim Russert, Wolf Blitzer, Keith Olbermann, Brian Williams, and Jack Cafferty.
