Ten years ago on Jun 8th, carelessness by a forest service worker started the most devastating forest fire in Colorado history known as the Hayman Fire. The burning of a relatively healthy but dry forest covered more than 133,000 acres and destroyed more than 550 buildings and charred the ground with such heat is was said to sterilize the soil. Colorado has the potential for a fire 30 times as devastating as the Hayman fire.

Soon, successful baseball clubs will be battling it out to determine what clubs make the play offs and ultimately the World Series. In the National League, Arizona, Philadelphia and Milwaukee have comfortable leads in their divisions.

Over in the American League, Detroit has a comfortable lead. As always, The New York Yankees and Boston make sure the division winner is decided on the closing days of the season. Surprisingly, in the AL West, the Texas Rangers and the LA Angles are still neck and neck.

When I entered the military service 35 years ago, I took an oath ” to support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same”. All public officials swear a similar oath when they are admitted to their elected or appointed office. When I entered public employment, I gave up many of the rights that employees in the private sector are entitled to have.

It looks like the left has found someone to run for the senate in Texas. Maybe they think that a Hispanic can win in Texas because of his ethnic heritage. That would be the only way he could get elected since those who served under him in Iraq did not value his style of leadership.

To Golf or Not to Gulf [Reader Post]

I recently had a conversation with a liberal lady who voted for Obama. We were comparing the performances of Obama and Bush as it related to a soldier. I told her that when President Bush quit golfing while troops he sent to war in the Gulf were fighting for this country it meant much to me. It wasn’t the respect he showed us, it was the symbolism.

President Bush showed us that he really cared about the people he sent to war.

The five of us kids grew up in rural Pennsylvania. The nearest town was nearly 10 miles away. When we were not working on the farm, we explored the woods making huts and catching the small brook trout that lived in the streams that passed through the valley. Our nearest neighbor lived a half mile away. My parents never worried about where we were as long as we were back for dinner.
