Is Democracy Doomed?

While watching the MSM do their usual disservice to this country with their coverage of the war and of the illegal immigration rights rally (is it only me that thinks illegal aliens should earn rights by earning their citizenship) I began to wonder about the fate of this country. For instance, here in Baltimore, Maryland we have the Democratic Party so desperate for votes that many are advocating returning all felons their voting rights. Thus politicians trying to court the votes of felons will of course be weak on crime and weak on the drug war to the detriment of us all. However, Baltimore?s issues are a symptom of a bigger problem. Laws often reflect the society at large. This is a Democracy after all, and that is what makes me nervous. For what will happen to our laws and our government as society?s values sink lower and lower?

As I said in Embracing the Absurd, It should be considered absurd that illegal aliens would even think they have rights, but liberals and the lying media (which conveniently leaves out the word illegal) has America believing otherwise. It should be absurd that anyone would call a US president in wartime a Nazi, but they do. It should be absurd that someone can rape a kid and get off free, but they do. It should be absurd that a large segment of the American population appeases a group that openly is hostile to American values, but they do. It should be absurd that some liberals and Democrats care more about criminal and terrorists rights then the rights of the victims, but they do. The question that must be asked again is what will be the damage to this country of this not-so-funny comedy of the absurd? Can a country whose values embrace the absurd remain a great country for long?

Consider this. At about the time our original 13 states adopted their new constitution in 1787, a Scottish history professor by the name of Professor Alexander Tyler had this to say about ?The Fall of the Athenian Republic? over 2,000 years previous to that date.

?A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the voters discover that they can vote themselves largesse (generous gifts) from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates promising the most benefits from the public treasury, with the result that a democracy always collapses over loose fiscal policy, (which is) always followed by a dictatorship.?

Professor Tyler went further.

?The average age of the world?s greatest civilizations has been two hundred years.? he said. ? These nations have progressed through this sequence. From bondage to spiritual faith; from spiritual faith to great courage; from courage to liberty; from liberty to abundance, from abundance to complacency; from complacency to apathy, from apathy to dependence, from dependence back into bondage.?

Bondage can be self-imposed. As I have said before, one of the failures of liberalism is that it creates a dependence culture that weakens the country as a whole. And worse then that, liberalism weakens our values and also weakens our ability to defend ourselves. It is not without reason that I believe the culture war and the war on terror are linked. Whether it is Bill Clinton ignoring attacks by Al Quaeda or Chamberlin appeasing Hilter, liberals and their allies in the Democratic Party have shown they are quite unwilling (with the exception of the 1940?s.) to stand up and defend Democracy. And the present membership of the Democrats has not the slightest chance of winning this quite real religious war that the media and many in this country are ignoring. Think I am exaggerating, well lets review. I already went into detail in a previous article how the Democrats wanted a peace at any price platform in the election of 1864 that would have made the South the victor in the Civil War and slavery to continue. General Giap admitted he would have given up during the Vietnam War had it not been for the liberals and the negative press. (Bin Laden has made similar statements concerning the media.) And looking at today?s political landscape, it appears little has changed. However the amusing thing, is, the liberals can?t win. Either the Conservatives defeat them or Western culture is overrun by the Crescent who is able and willing to do what is needed to win. It might be one of the few cases of an empire loosing a war without loosing a single battle. It is this simple; I think if liberals win the culture war, our days as a great nation are numbered.

And the war is on many fronts. Whitewashing illegal immigration is a further example of our weakening laws due to our declining values. Will Durant stated once that

?Rome was conquered not by barbarian invasion from without, but by barbarian invasion from within?the rapidly breeding Germans could not understand classical culture, and did not transmit it, and they were of a mind to mostly destroy the culture The Romans, who possessed it, sacrificed it to the comforts of sterility.?

The comparison to today?s immigration problem does not really need to be made. But again, here is one more example of the crisis we are facing. Allowing illegal immigration not only is a security threat and strains our tax system, it also weakens the rule of law and our sovereignty. Of course I expect that to mean little to liberals, which would only prove my point.

I do hold out some hope. Of course the media elite will laugh at this, But I believe the Moderates and Conservatives of this country may reverse this slide if they stand together. However they must do more then vote every two or four years. If liberals and their allies control most of the courts, the media, the entertainment industry, and the schools, it is possible to win every election and still loose. To win this struggle one must fight against the war on our culture every day in every arena.

The point is this. The values, morals, views on family, marriage, education, language, defense, the military, crime, etc, that a society or culture has all determine the relative strengths and weaknesses of a country. As I have stated, countries have fallen I the past because of a weak value system. Ideas such as liberalism can be as deadly as any WMD. Liberalism weakens the family, society, the military, and thus damages the nation. We cannot have Democracy survive without a strong value system. (and a fair and impartial press) Laws made by the selfish and immoral only help to weaken the country by reinforcing these values. Without a strong value system Democracy becomes no more then a suicide pact. If we are to survive as a nation, our values, or morals, our beliefs must also survive. If we abandon the values that made us a great nation, soon we too will end up in the history books.

I think you are wrong in comparing the German barbarians of the Roman age to the Mexican illegals of our age: Most of the Mexicans LIKE our culture and society. They may send money back to their families, but they would, mostly, prefer that their families join them HERE.

This is exactly why a guest worker program is such a horrible idea: We don’t want French-style ghettos around our cities filled with people who have no vested interest in the greater society.

We need to VASTLY increase the legal immigration quotas and welcome them, and their families, with open arms. Hispanics are climbing the social ladder rapidly: The second generation speaks English and third generation is solidly middle class.

They are a conservative’s dream immigrant population (overall): Strongly religious and family oriented.

We need to deal with the illegals who are already here somehow (how is open for debate) but the long term solution is to get more of them here legally.

(btw: The Mexican birthrate is declining rapidly, there are not going to be hoardes crossing our border.)

Good read – however, you CANNOT blame the liberals for illegal immigration. Not with the president holding the illegal’s hands and promising our country to them. Not with Bush making deals with Kennedy and Schumer. (watch for more gun control from the WH – like father, like son)

Not with the White House, the house of representatives, the senate and the majority of governorships REFUSING to deal with the border issues. We elected these traitors to protect our country.

They are giving it away and pissing down our backs.

You cannot project the fall of Rome to our situation.

More then likely PC and litigation will do that…
