I touched Twitter’s liberal third rail

Prophetic words were written about Twitter ten years ago.

“Twitter will be the indicator that it was the Beginning of the End of Civilization. It won’t be Global Warming… It will be Twitter…”- David Letterman

Twitter is a disaster. The bias is suffocating.

SAN FRANCISCO — Ariana Rowlands, a 20-year-old college student from Southern California, is half Mexican and half Welsh, a child of immigrants raised on telenovelas and burritos. She’s also a fervent conservative who regularly airs her political views on Twitter.

“So proud of my Hispanic Heritage and so proud to support @realDonaldTrump for President!!” she tweeted in September under a hashtag celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month. Soon after, she began receiving personal attacks and death threats, she says.

Rowlands reported the abuse but she says Twitter did nothing. And, she says, it wasn’t the first time Twitter ignored concerns for her safety that she and her Twitter followers expressed and even reported to police.

“I want to stress that it’s not like we’re crying victim or anything like that,” Rowlands said in an interview. “It’s just that we’re pointing out the double standard.”

Double standard indeed.

In July when Ghostbusters actress Leslie Jones was subjected to racist and sexist taunts led by Breitbart technology editor Milo Yiannopoulos, Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey intervened and yanked Yiannopoulos from the service.

Yet, conservatives say, nothing happened to rapper Talib Kweli and his followers when they attacked black Breitbart reporter Jerome Hudson with racial slurs. When Breitbart contributor  Kassy Dillon complained about a Twitter user who sent her harassing tweets and messages, Twitter made the perpetrator delete one tweet that suggested someone shoot Dillon in the head.

Twitter refused to comment directly on the allegation that it ignores abuse hurled at conservatives. “The Twitter rules prohibit violent threats, harassment, hateful conduct and multiple account abuse, and we will take action on accounts violating those policies,” the company said in an emailed statement.

That depends on who you comment about. I got myself suspended for making a comment about an ISIS bride desiring to return to the US after leaving for Syria several years ago. IMO they deserve no sympathy or support here or in the UK. They can be expected to raise their children to carry the same hatred of America and freedom that they do and their deceased husbands did.

Well, that was simply not acceptable. Had I targeted a Jew that would have been fine.

The FBI has been the worst enemy of Black advancement. The Jews have control over those agencies of government. #Farrakhan pic.twitter.com/DXKCRr1zpo

Some people are allowed to say whatever they want about Jews.

“Louis Farrakhan is a noted anti-Semite,” wrote Erick Erickson on his blog, The Resurgent.“He is no fan of white people or Jews, and his racist rhetoric is as awful as many of the white supremacists whose blue checkmarks Twitter has revoked. So why does Twitter treat Farrakhan differently from the other racists and anti-Semites? Are they willing to endorse his conspiracies against Jews, etc.?”

It’s open season all the time

Just in from a @Twitter spokesperson: Louis Farrakhan’s tweet comparing Jews to termites is not in violation of the company’s policies. The policy on dehumanizing language has not yet been implemented.

So if you want to compare Jews to rats/insects – get it in while you can!

Twitter promised to make the bias even worse:

Just as free-speech advocates were reacting against Twitter’s overly zealous censorship of content, the company announced the implementation of new rules for even tighter controls.

Last week Twitter disabled features of actor Rose McGowan’s account just when she was sharing key information regarding the Harvey Weinstein sexual misconduct scandal. Soon afterward, groups of women boycotted the site for a day in protest.

Conservatives have long complained that Twitter’s seemingly partisan understanding of “hate speech” has unfairly hamstrung legitimate sources of information outside of the mainstream, simply because they clash with the reigning liberal zeitgeist.

Criticize liberals and you’re at risk. Criticize Islam and you’re toast.

Then again, getting suspended is not all bad. In fact, it’s an education. You learn that Twitter is a waste of time.

And that it’s run by morons.

Remember Iran’s “Green Revolution?”
Obama was president ditherer.
The Iranian college kids Tweeted the revolution out to the world live since our media wouldn’t/couldn’t cover it.
The Ayatollah and Pres Ahmadinejad ganged up on those students WITH THE HELP OF TWITTER!!! to imprison and punish all, even execute some.
Yes, and Twitter helped.
I quit Twitter back then.
No interest in being caught in one of their nasty nets now.
Americans are regularly being reported BY TWITTER to Pakistan for breaking Islamic/Sharia blasphemy laws.
Twitter is not any free-thinking person’s friend.

@Nan G: I do not want the internet regulated an internet bill of rights is needed and should include privacy and tracking sections. The ability to file class action law suits and seek damages.
This thing about tracking me using my cell phone back home and then going into other devices recently utilized by the now Governor Evers, frigging creepy!

I got an early impression that staying away from Twitter would be wise. Haven’t found a reason to revisit that decision.

Sure, we know the twits@twitter are biased. So it comes down to how you post. I think we should be courteous when we post anyway. You never win an argument by deriding someone’s race or religion. Twitter is a useful platform. I would never, on Twitter, post something like “twits@twitter.”
