Here’s the article from Axios

Border agents again use tear gas vs. migrants at Mexican border

Around 150 migrants at the U.S.-Mexico border in Tijuana began the new year fleeing tear gas launched by border agents early Tuesday morning, AP reports.

The big picture: This is the second recent instance of tear gas being used on crowds of migrants, including women and children, who have travelled to the U.S. in “caravans” — many to seek asylum. Past administrations have also used tear gas, but it has been a rare, last resort. The instance highlights the Trump administration’s often harsh, ongoing attempts to combat immigration.

Got that? The poor migrants began fleeing because those awful border agents fired tear gas at them. Axios gives no reason for it, but reason there was. This is what happened via the San Diego Union Tribune:

150 migrants rush U.S. border, are met with tear gas from agents who say they were throwing rocks

A group of about 150 migrants attempted to breach a San Diego border fence on New Year’s, and some began throwing rocks at responding U.S. border agents who deployed pepper spray and tear gas on the crowd, authorities said.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection said the group was attempting to climb over and under the San Diego border fence. When agents and officers responded, about 45 migrants turned back to Mexico, according to the agency.

Some migrants began throwing rocks over the fence at agents and officers, according to the agency.

“Several teenagers, wrapped in heavy jackets, blankets and rubber mats were put over the concertina wire. Border Patrol agents witnessed members of the group attempting to lift toddler-sized children up and over the concertina wire and (have) difficulty accomplishing the task in a safe manner,” a news release from U.S. authorities states.

The news release does not say what time the incident occurred, and a follow-up question was not immediately answered. Migrants interviewed in Tijuana said the incident occurred around 2 a.m. on Tuesday.

The Customs and Border Protection release said agents and officers deployed smoke, pepper spray and CS gas to address the rock throwers, who they said were assaulting border agents and also risking the safety of migrants who had already made it onto the U.S. side.

The gases caused people to stop throwing rocks and flee, CBP said.

The agency apprehended 25 people, including two minors, the release said.

That’s a starkly different portrayal of the incident. This statement

Past administrations have also used tear gas, but it has been a rare, last resort. The instance highlights the Trump administration’s often harsh, ongoing attempts to combat immigration.

Is a flat out and outrageous lie. Two lies, in fact.

The obama administration used tear gas on “migrants” at least 126 times and pepper spray 434 times. Further, the tear gas was NOT used to “combat immigration.” It was used to deter an attack on both the border and the border agents.

Omitting these facts is reprehensible and does nothing other the further erode the public trust in the left wing media.

Axios just destroyed its credibility.

Axios’ lies are a good reason to read many news and blog versions of the same story.
There’s also the axion that no news is to be trusted until the 1st 72 hours have passed.
Lots of partial truth, rumor, innuendo, slant-to-fit and so on in the 1st few hours.

Yes, there was an attack on our border New Year’s night.
And, yes it was thwarted by a combo of tear gas, border agents, concertina wire, taller fencing and the heads’ up that it was coming.

Later we might learn how many illegal immigrant wannabe children had to be treated for cuts and tears due to “mom & dad” throwing them over the fence into the razor wire.
