How About Some Good News? Our Government Did Something Smart this Week!

What a difference a day makes! When I was getting ready to write this post the tone was going to be quite different. This week ted Cruz did a very good thing, if not very well thought out. He introduced a bill to cut off funding to “Sanctuary Cities” that ignore federal law by providing safe harbor to illegal aliens. And with predictable results:

The Republican-controlled Senate failed Wednesday to advance efforts to change federal immigration law — including one to cut funding to so-called sanctuary cities.

The vote was 53-44, failing to get the minimum 60 votes to begin debate on the issue.

The measure attempted to block congressional funding for sanctuary cities — municipalities that ban police from cooperating with immigration officials to potentially deport illegal immigrants.

Senate Republicans also failed to get enough votes to advance their proposed Kate’s Law – named after Kate Steinle, who was fatally shot in July 2015, allegedly by an illegal immigrant who had multiple felony convictions and was deported several times prior to the incident.

“How many times does this have to happen?” Pennsylvania GOP Sen. Pat Toomey asked just before the 55-42 vote that failed along party lines. “At some point, a person needs to go to jail. That’s what Kate’s Law does.”

I though that the bill needing 60 votes was an interesting point – remember when teh Democrats would howl bloody murder over any bill that the GOP required to take to 60 votes? Ah, the good old days! And unsurprisingly, the White House weighed in with the level of intelligence one would expect:

“S. 3100 would also jeopardize the ability of State and local governments to receive Federal funding that is critical to their efforts to grow and revitalize their communities.  For some jurisdictions, it would deny funding for cities to implement a wide range of community development, infrastructure, and housing activities and provide vital public services, including meals to the elderly and affordable child care for low-income, working families,” the White House Office of Management and Budget said.

“The bill also would deem State and local law enforcement officials to act as the agents of Federal immigration law enforcement—and to have the authority of Federal immigration law enforcement officials — in certain circumstances.  The Administration believes that these provisions would lead to mistrust between communities and State and local law enforcement agencies; undermine the ability of law enforcement to keep communities safe across the country; and impede our efforts to safely, fairly, and effectively enforce the Nation’s immigration laws.”

Yes, punishing cities that provide safe harbor to illegal aliens will hurt efforts to fight illegal immigration. And of course, it would never register that the money needed by the communities wouldn’t be in any jeopardy if they just… obeyed the law.

When I first heard the news this post was going to blast Senator Cruz for joining the GOP surrender Caucus of providing meaningless gestures that he’s smart enough to know would go nowhere. Did he really think  that Democrats would give a damn about protecting US citizens from murderers and rapists if it would hurt their efforts to pander to the Hispanic demographic? Like most conservatives, I’m tired of Republican Surrender Theater and meaningless gestures. If Cruz wanted to fight against sanctuary cities, why not skip the meaningless gestures and do something useful? Enter rep. John Culberson;

Finally acting on a promise made to House leaders, the Justice Department on Thursday shut off funding to so-called “sanctuary cities” that ignore federal laws and protect illegal immigrants wanted for crimes.

“Today, the DOJ notified local and state law enforcement agencies across America that they will no longer be eligible for federal law enforcement grants unless they certify under oath that their local or state laws do not interfere ‘in any way’ with requests for immigration information from federal authorities,” according to Texas Rep. John Culberson who demanded action earlier this year.

Justice sent Culberson a letter detailing the new rules that cut off several Justice grants, many to law enforcement, if cities like San Francisco, Washington, D.C. and over 300 others block access to criminal illegals sought by federal authorities.

Amen. Stop pretending that these Democratic scum interested in their next stunt are even worth trying to work with. We voted you guys into office for a reason; now get something done. And faster, please.

Congressman John Culberson told me at our Freedom Rally last Sept. that he was working on this. Then, last Jan. he became Chair of the Science, Commerce, & Justice Apprpriations sub-committee. He was able to get Justice to understand the importance of opposing sanctuary cities as they discussed Justice’s budget and annual spending transfers..

Just prior to our TX primary, DOI tried to take over our local Rep. polling places using the ADA to do so (parking space or hallway an 1″ off for example). Our County Clerk knew of Culberson’s position and contacted him. DOJ did NOT take over our polling places, though I understand they did in Galveston Co. because Culberson was unaware of it.

If we could only get all of Appropriations chairs and sub-chairs to do the same!

blm is a DOMESTIC TERRORIST GROUP. diong the bidding of the fool and saro. you forgot that saro financed ferguson, mi riots–forget so soon

@MOS # 8541:
Tin foil hat time !

“saro” ???? is that some thing on that Glen Beck program?

Boycott all Sancuary cities their city councils and mayors are traitors to america

“S. 3100 would also jeopardize the ability of State and local governments to receive Federal funding that is critical to their efforts to grow and revitalize their communities.

It would seem that ending the dangerous policy of releasing violent criminal illegal immigrants repeatedly back into the population would be a small price to pay for those federal funds. But, not for those “if only one life can be saved” liberals. The potential votes of Hispanics and amnestied illegal immigrants outweighs public safety every time.

@smoking man: Although misspelled its George Soros, yes Glen Beck has pointed out his connection to move on dot org, if it were the Koch brothers funding violent protests MSNBC would report it non-stop Harry Reed would be screaming about it. But it isnt just Beck its all over http://thefreethoughtproject.com/major-clinton-aligned-progressive-organization-caught-funding-violent-anti-
We will put on our foil hats if you will take out your earplugs and take off the liberal blinders

Do you really feel protected by the tin foil?

@Smoking man: actually you must buy rolls of metal window screen and line the entire room with it, cover all the windows in heavy duty tin foil add a metal strainer under the foilhat. It can help if you run a grounding wire from the screen to the ground wire of the outlet. Reception on the cell phone means you dont have it right. 😉 ;P

Obama disarms americans rfeleases crinimals and opens our border he realy deserves to be tired for treason and aiding and abbeting the terrorists
