To my gay friends; I know, you think I don’t have gay friends, but I have many customers who are gay and I often spend hours talking to them, while I am working, like I do with my straight customers. However, this post is for all the gay people, not just those who own horses.
There was a terrible tragedy in Orlando, this past weekend. I can imagine the pain and feelings of remorse that are running through the gay community, but let me tell you, there are feelings of sadness and grief in the conservative community as well. The liberal media has painted us as homophobes and I am sure there are many homo haters among us; however, there are many more who felt personal injury from the loss of these young lives, in Orlando. To us, the victims were not just gays, they were our gays and they were Americans. My heart goes out to you.
In the political world, our leaders and potential leaders are doing phenomenal oral gymnastics to caste blame and to avoid blame, but you don’t need me to tell you, it’s obvious if you listen to the news. Listen carefully, and you will hear another message, a subliminal message. It is about gays and the ultimate sacrifice Obama expects you to make, while he brings in an unknown amount of radical jihadists to achieve his vision of a North American caliphate and Sharia. “OH Boy.”
We conservatives were sold down river by the GOP elites, after the last two midterm elections. We elected politicians who ran as conservatives and after being elected, served as stooges for the donor class and the elite ruling class of the Beltway. Donald Trump is no fool; he picked up on the anger and read the feelings of Americans who were betrayed. He may be the next president, simply because he was willing to listen to the frustration of everyday Americans.
The gay community had better hope Trump is elected, because the pant suit woman is dedicated to continuing the Islamization of America and you gays will regret your support of this insanity.
Gays are being betrayed by the progressives. They have sold you out to appease Muslim clerics and their message of death to Jews and Gays. The trick is to make the murder of your gay friends by Islamic maniacs, seem like the fault of contrary conservatives and that the loss of a few gays is a small price to pay to see Obama’s dreams come to fruition. When was the last time you heard one of your leaders condemn the lynching of gays or the tossing of gays off buildings in the Middle East. You just had 49 of your friends killed in a horrific terror attack and our president and your nominee are only worried about disarming law-abiding citizens.
As a friend, let me tell you: there are thousands of people who carry a weapon and are proficient in their use. Many of them would have risked their life to bring down the homicidal maniac before he racked up so many kills in the Pulse nightclub. Now, it might not be right away, but I will predict that many of us will be playing cowboys and Muslims in the near future. Your president is forcing the issue and he has made it clear that bringing in a few jihadists with peaceful Muslims is a price we should be prepared to pay. Unfortunately, gays will be expected to pay a higher price, because of real homophobia among the radical, Sharia loving Muslims.
I recommend buying a weapon and becoming well versed in its use or avoid congregating with your friends in large groups, while waiting, like sacrificial lambs, to be shot to pieces by Obama’s gay hating jihadists. You have probably noticed, he is not going to great lengths to bring in Christians from the Middle East, he only wants the guys who hate homosexuals, but are willing to kill them with compassion.

Rich, I have had a fascination with rifles, shotguns, and pistols, since I was a wee lad. I admire them for their beauty. I hunted with a surplus 8MM Mauser all my life, later converted to an 8 X 06 when I needed a new barrel. Now, I am looking at a match rifle owned by a friend and former Marine team shooter who can drop three through the same hole at 100 yards, Impressive. Those team shooters are good and they have a few tricks that can improve your shooting. The rifles I buy have Walnut or Maple stocks. They will have a bolt action receiver or a semi-automatic action like the M-1 Gerand or the M-1 A (civilian M-14). They are magnificent weapons and every bit as effective as the AR 15, but more effective at 800+ yards. The AR is intimidating to civilians and it is lighter. To me it is strictly about beauty and accuracy. Knocking down an elk or moose with one round at 500 yards is the reward. I reload my own and experiment with different powders and bullets to keep track of effective range and drop. I sight in with 4 inches of height at 100 yards, so that the trajectory will be dead on at 200 to 250 yards. It”s a rule of thumb I employ. I am a big guy, so the weight of the rifle and the ammunition is not an issue. I also prefer the 1911 for nostalgic reasons. (The newer ones are not so loose.)
Other people will have a variety of reasons for preferring different calibers and weapons. I have no reason to change anyone’s attitude, but in my opinion the AR look is purely psychological and that can work with you or against you. Personally, I prefer to let my rifle do the talking.
@Skook: Good taste in firearms. I’m a huge 1911 fan and reload my own rounds on a Dillon 650. I also own a Bushmaster M-4, aka AR-15, so I guess it’s partially my fault that this animal killed all of those Americans. His radical Islamic views and commitment to ISIS, thanks to their recruiting and propaganda efforts, have nothing to do with it.
@Richard Wheeler: Rich, the gay rights don’t really concern me. Many gay people love horses, so I deal with the gays more than most people. I certainly don’t talk to straight people about their sexual habits and I am less likely to talk to gays about their habits. Otherwise, they are not stamped out with certain personality traits. They vary as much as straight people. Some of them are exceptional riders and others are nearly hopeless; like shooters they can only work to improve. If they take good care of their horses, they are OK in my book.
Sadly, I don’t think it will be the gay guys who want to be women who will cause problems in the women’s outhouses, it will be the straight perverts who try to take advantage of the situation. I can understand why a guy in a dress doesn’t want to take a leak next to me. I see the three bathroom situation in my travels with a mixed gender sign. I assume this will be the solution. As far as giving gays first position in jobs and schools, that’s ridiculous.
@another vet: Your choice of weapons had zero influence on that homicidal maniac’s decision to commit murder and mayhem. It is purely a matter of personal preference. If I had to walk 60 miles a day (assuming I still can), I would probably pick up an AR or M-4 in a lighter caliber. When the shoe leather hits the road, the esthetics can change rapidly.

@skook Your choice in weapons is informed, well suited to your needs and reflects a sense of the ascetic. Some firearms are works of art.
Have you ever hunted for feral hogs? The reason I ask is that some of the qualities in firearms that you value are of little value in this particular sport. Seldom do you get the opportunity for a 100+ yard shot. Often you are in scrubby bush where the tough metal finish of an AR is better suited then polished wood. Sometimes you might find yourself shooting from 20 feet at a huge charging animal intent on on slicing and dicing you and your friends. Hogs are one of the more dangerous animals that hunters pursue; it is their nature to attack and they are very tough. In this scenario the short, light and maneuverable barrel and point and shoot laser sighting found on many ARs is highly desirable. Laser is definitely more useful then expensive glass. And a big magazine is better than a small one. Pigs are terrible destructive nuisances that cause huge economic damage to agriculture and are terrible for the environment. In most states hunters are encouraged to kill as many as possible and often the opportunity to do so is fleeting. A bolt action is definitely not the right choice but as you note there are semi-automatics that come in a more traditional hunting rifle configuration. In any case, if you ever get the chance, you might consider borrowing a friend’s AR.

AR-15s are also awesome as home defense weapons. Sometimes home invaders come in onseys and twoseys. I suppose my preferred weapon in that scenario would be my pump action 12-gauge loaded with my Dad’s home-brew “Blue Whistlers”. But home invaders sometimes come 3, 4, 5 or 6 at a time. It has never happened to me but knowing there is a highly manueverable, short barreled rifle with a 30-round magazine and a point and fire laser sight in the closet gives me some confidence that I will be able to protect my family. Nobody in a gunfight ever said< "I wish I had a smaller magazine or that my gun would shoot slower".
Who are you to tell me what weapon I need to protect my family and if you think you have such a right then why shouldn't I have the right to tell you who you can't sleep with?

I’ve gone after wounded Grizzly in thick brush and dark muskeg. You often need a change of underwear after one of those episodes. I like to walk up on a dead moose and have him field dressed and hanging on three pack horses within an hour and a half, with nothing but a Buck knife and an ax. Trust me, that’s moving out. After you pack out a few moose, an elk seems easy.

A Browning .30 cal fires about 600 rpm. The German M42, an extraordinarily fast firing weapon, fired 1200 to 1500 rpm, though that would be reduced due to having to change the barrels when they got too hot. Do you think Grayson actually believes a semi-automatic rifle, that has to have a full magazine every 30 rounds, can actually fire that rapidly? He also said that the mass-murder was God’s punishment for last year’s Supreme Court legalization of same-sex marriage.

Robertson didn’t seem at all distressed that a bunch of gays had been murdered, and he apparently thinks that a good strategy for dealing with such violence is to do absolutely nothing. “Let your enemies eliminate each other” is his advice, finding in his heart of Christian hearts that gay Americans are indeed enemies of the same caliber as radical Muslim extremists. His advice certainly implies a cheerful “Job well done!” to Omar Mateen, regardless of which particular motivation compelled him to do what he did, and also Robertson was likely approving of God’s role in what he evidently sees as justified punishment.
There are plenty of hateful people out there, and not all of them are Muslims. Some of them hide under the cloak of Christianity, dredging up Old Testament proscriptions as excuses for justifying violence against the LGBT community.

No, it doesn’t. As we clearly see, the left’s policies actually DID lead to the deaths of (at least) 49 people of the gay community. What led Mateen into that bar (aside from possible self-loathing and a desire for “redemption”) was his Muslim faith (as he viewed it), this father’s rants and ISIS propaganda… none of which this administration has addressed or will address. They would rather use this tragedy for their own agenda… as it seems you would as well.
Those words are no more fierce (less so, in fact) than Obama imploring people to punish their enemies. Robertson promotes no action, only describes the results. How about gays demanding businesses that won’t bake them a cupcake be burned down? Oh, that’s right… that’s just talk, isn’t it?
Yeah, there are a lot of hateful people… some of them Christians. Some of the liberals. Some of them GAYS. However, who is doing the killing? Who is doing the threatening? If you want to prevent MORE of these slaughtered, you’d best be looking to someone that actually has the guts to address the true problem.

I have pointed out to George, many times, the horrid treatment gays receive at the hands of Muslims in Muslims countries. But George has always come back with his own ”What? Me worry?” based on his residing in the U.S. and not some Muslim country.
Now the hatred, bigotry and violence Muslims carry out against gays in Muslim countries has found its way to the very nation George lives in. One [radical] Muslim did in one night more to harm homosexuals than all the words of Pat Robertson or even the crazies of the Westboro Baptist Church thru the years.
I’m sure George will continue to follow the script he adopted so long ago; Christians, who believe sodomy is a sin and who think marriage is between a man and a woman, are the great danger to homosexuals as 49 lie dead in Orlando and dozens of others are seriously injured by the hands of a Muslim who believed the lives of those gay people had no value.
