Walt Kelly created a cartoon strip character known as Pogo and Pogo once spoke some profound but simple words.

Matt Drudge put it this way

https://twitter.com/DRUDGE/status/718880067833561088

It’s more than that. This is a dangerous time. The Boston Globe is no longer a “newspaper.” It is a tool of propaganda. When editorials are the front page the fourth estate has abrogated its journalistic responsibility. Wikipedia defines “journalism” this way:

Journalism is the social work and work-craft, and profession (high-level) of reporting on the events, facts, and people that are the “news of the day,” such that a society is “informed,” to some non-trivial degree.

The above is not journalism. It is propaganda. Overt propaganda. Front page propaganda. It’s worthy of Pravda. The NY Times did something similar in December when it ran a front page gun control editorial, the first since 1920. One wonder what it would have cost for democrats to run such an ad and one also wonders whether fairness would call for balance- another front page dedicated to the destruction of Hillary Clinton.

I am no Trump fan, but this is wrong. We’re in a time when the opposition is not simply in opposition. It is focused on the complete destruction of people. Thousands of “protesters” have promised to disrupt a GOP gala next week. How do these “protesters” have the free time to engage in this kind of frivolity? I’d love to protest the shrew Clinton but I have responsibilities. You know, like work.

One answer might be George Soros. Soros is reportedly funding these disruptions. Soros sees the US as the “main obstacle” to a new world order and seems bent on fixing that.

The hacker group Anonymous has declared “total war” on Donald Trump. It asks that “all hackers to help in the effort by shutting down his website, sabotaging his brand and exposing information” about those with whom they disagree.

Judge, jury and executioner. Not content to let democracy run its course, they determine who lives and dies. They will suppress the rights of those whose views are different from their own. From behind masks. People might not like what someone has to say, but the Constitution guarantees the right to speak freely. Denying one or some of that right opens the door for others to do the same to you. The schadenfreude some might be tempted to feel for Trump supporters would be misplaced. As much as I disdain Hillary Clinton I do not believe her rights should be violated. National Review dedicated a complete issue to stopping Trump but no one would mistake them for a newspaper. At this point no one should mistake the Boston Globe for journalism.

This is not just history in which we’re living. It’s dangerous history. If Trump can be defeated within the rules, then so be it. It is scary thing to have newspapers in this country overtly propagandize on the front page against those who discomfort them as though it’s news. It is frightening to see political parties plot to subvert the vote of the American people. No matter what the goal, these are the real enemies of a democratic republic.

Trump is a narcissistic, dangerous man born with a silver spoon up his butt and nothing but hatred and racism in his heart. And those who support him are the dumbest this country has to offer.

One can only hope that the American spirit, however mishandled by the left, will remain strong and will assert itself in November. God help us if Hillary is elected. That would validate all that is truly wrong in this country and would wound the very soul of America

@Reem: Sadly, from the perspective of the left, anyone who disagrees with their Utopian viewpoint motorized by giant government, is dumb. I find it quite interesting that of the many thousands of employees that Trump has had, including many executive women and many executives period, not a single one could be found to badmouth his leadership. I am not an enthusiastic Trump supporter, but I greatly fear that the condescension of the left and the snarky comments of the likes of Mr. Reem reduce the discussion to a swim in an unflushed toilet.

“We need to use diplomacy with Iran, not force”
“We need to negotiate, not bomb”
“We need to use persuasive argument, not weapons”

Ironic that the same people that express these sentiments are some of the shrillest Trump attackers – wanting to counter his “hate” with their “enlightenment”, which is just a different form of hate pointed in another direction.

Since Trump can’t possibly win the presidency – his negative ratings are now approaching Hitler’s – the GOP’s best option is to nominate Cruz and let Trump run third party, throwing the presidency to the Democrats but winning for Republicans both the Senate and the House in the process. Yes, that means that the next SCOTUS nominations will come from a Democrat president, but that’s going to happen no matter what – a bitter pill, and the cost of supporting Trump in the first place – a lesson the conservative base evidently needs to learn.
Yes, God help us. But we can’t blame the Left for OUR flirtations with a candidate that has been doing everything in his power to prove that he is unelectable. It’s our own fault. Our collective disapproval of insider/establishment politicians caused us to throw out our best options in the first rounds of the draft picks, and what we’ve ended up with is a disaster.

@George Wells: Yes, it is a disaster. However, the burning question is quite simple: What are you going to do if it is Trump v. Hillary? That, my friend, is where the rubber meets the road.

:

Like the vast majority of Americans, I WON’T be voting for Trump. And that decision is a painful but NECESSARY one, because the GOP HAS to learn not to encourage clowns to run for president UNDER ITS BANNER, and it HAS to teach its base not to vote for clowns if they DO run. Connect the dots. We will HAVE to live with it.

@George Wells: It is precisely that attitude that gave us Obama’s second term. It is precisely that attitude that my late mother used to characterize as like the “dog in the manger.” Sometimes she used the expression, “cutting off your nose to spite your face.” The Republican party is in a mess and hasn’t been responsive to its constituents for years – I agree. However, Trump is not a Republican in any real sense and punishing the country with Hillary sends no message whatsoever to the Republican powers that be. Electing Trump in that scenario would be the most severe lesson that the Republican establishment could learn and it has the added benefit of not destroying the country in the process. Politics is not a matter of morality. It is a matter of making difficult choices and running away from a choice is, in my opinion, irresponsible. I say the foregoing not as a Trump supporter and as one who wishes most fondly for a more acceptable candidate. However, rewarding the Democrats for their outrageous behaviors is the flip side of your position.

I am quite optimistic about the 2016 elections
Either Clinton or Sanders is looking like an easy win
Both electronic markets (money talks) and polls also indicate it more likely than not that the Senate will also be Dem
I am actually hoping that Garland isn’t confirmed, the next POTUS will probably nominate and the Senste confirm Elizabeth Warren to be the next Associate Justice on the SCOTUS
If that happens gerrymandering will be outlawed
As for the slurs and name calling, that is about all that the radical right can do now: it’s like they got rope-a-doped by Obama and don’t have any real punches left that sting

@George Wells: You missed the point of the article. The article had nothing to do about Trump. It had to do with those who are violating his rights. If they are allowed to violate Trump’s rights, then anyone will be allowed to violate your rights. John missed the point also, but that can be expected!

Looks like the people opposing Trump are far more dangerous than they are claiming Trump to be. “Anonymous” supposedly a tool for the “people” have outed thenseves as a tool for Soros.

@John #10:

You make a very astute observation.

I am, however, not entirely certain that it is best for the country to have all three branches of the government held by the same party, and I’m pretty sure that if Trump is the nominee of the GOP, not only will HE lose, but so will the Senate and the House be dragged out of GOP control, and the Democrats – like the Republicans – haven’t done much good when they controlled everything.

In the near-term, I’ll be thrilled, because as a gay man, I’m looking forward to a liberal SCOTUS clean majority, and Trump is assuring that. But in the long-term, the collapse of the national GOP will leave us in a one-party situation that I don’t relish. Power corrupts, and BOTH parties are susceptible to that disease.

Why would a liberal paper not wish the GOP to nominate that candidate that would be easiest for the Democrats to defeat?
I certainly hope that the GOP nominates Trump

@John:

I think that the answer is that the piece everyone’s getting excited about appeared on the front [page, not the editorial page. To do that with a semblance of legitimate news-worthiness, the piece had to tell the truth about Trump and what his election would result in. I’m pretty sure that the BG DIDN’T want to discourage the GOP from nominating him, for the reason you suggest, but saying so WITHOUT what they printed on the front page would have clinched the editorial nature of the piece. If you get my drift…

I agree I would like not to see the GOP marginalized
But
That is not the fault of liberals it is because the GOP allowed itself to be hijacked by extremists and moderate Republicans didn’t speak up loudly enough They allowed the party to be taken over by the worst and least likely to be elected They spent the last 7.5 years doing nothing except personal attacks (and 55+ attempts to repeal Obamacare) on the POTUS instead of trying to help govern our country
The Director of the FBI has already stated he is not going to wrap up the email investigation until after the Democratic Convention. By the time he presents evidence to the DOJ we will be voting
The election is not going to be decided on the basis of an indictment

@John:
Agreed, though I’m not entirely convinced that Hillary is going to be the Dem nominee. She’s got a history of late-game faltering, and it’s been happening again. If she DOES get the nod, Dem’s will back her with gusto, because they want the SCOTUS, and because the GOP nominee, who ever it is, will scare the bejeezus out of them.
If, on the other hand, Bernie gets it, Dems will be even better off. BOTH Dem options are winners, both GOP options are losers. Doesn’t get any better than that, does it?

@DrJohn:
I would like ALL gerrymandering to end
If that does happen it will add in total, more Dems to the House since more Congressional districts have been gerrymandered to help elect the GOP
Dr j do you also want all gerrymandering to end ? Do you believe gerrymandering as it exists is unconstitutional? Would you like to see it continue?

Dr J I used to try that “but the other kids did it too” but it never seemed to work with my mom

Trump seems to gain strength from these ham-handed leftist media attacks.

@Bill:
Bill he may be gaining strength in the primary but of course that would be to the “left’s” advantage
Trump is seen as a very weak candidate in the general election but Cruz is actually weaker

@john: In case you’ve missed it, every organization and political pundit has predicted Trumps’s collapse numerous times… and he seems to only grow stronger. Applying the usual political wisdom to his campaign and trajectory (not necessarily to him personally but to that type of candidate) does not seem to provide the accurate results desired.

People are pissed off about the disaster the left has made and the Republican’s inability to combat it. The see Trump as the anti-all that. The usual weapons utilized by the left (lying, biased media, left wing physical attacks) only infuriates that constituency further and proves Trump’s point.

What you better be worrying about is how much of the left is going to sit it out when the DNC gets through screwing Bernie (or presenting that perception). His anti-Hillary following will not be pleased.

@Bill:
????? Trump is growing stronger (in the GOP primary ?
No I hadn’t noticed that! I have seen him lose several states in a row and just had CO taken away but if you say he’s getting stronger I say That’s Great !!
I and bookies do not give Trump much of a chance currently he is given about
a 12% chance of winning the White House or 7 1/2 to 1 odds http://predictwise.com/politics/2016-president-winner#Link6
As for how much Americans in general “hate Obama/left”? Gallup has had Obama at positive poll numbers for the last month as has RealClearPolitics in their poll average. The GOP Congress poll average is in the teens.
Soooo, Bill are you ready to go all in with those 7 1/2 to 1 odds ? They actually have been increasing he was as high as 4-1 if you wait just a bit you might see 8-1 or even 10-1
As for Cruz he will get killed on social issues. He is on record as saying that pregnancies resulting from incest or rape will not have an abortion exemption. How do you think that will go over with the girls ?

@John #24:

I see no point in trying to open Bills eyes. He has them shut tight and is singing the “LA-LA-LA-LA” song as loudly as he can. He’s going to be in for a shock on election night, just like that other “LA-LA-LA-LA” singer – what was his name? ROMNEY? Bill’s invented an alternate reality for himself to live in until then. Might as well let him stay there, happy in his delusion, until November.

@john:

????? Trump is growing stronger (in the GOP primary ?

You might want to take a look down the road and see what is up next for Trump. He faces a pretty friendly field. But, go ahead; base all your predictions on your hatred and see what that gets you.

@George Wells:

I see no point in trying to open Bills eyes.

Yes, please, don’t bother. Because, to people like you, “opening my eyes” means nothing more than expecting me to see the world through your own warped prism and I am not about to do that. You can hate Trump because he does not bow to the gay altar and pretend gay “marriage” is legitimate, but that does not erase the groundswell of grass roots popularity he has gathered. Though I prefer Cruz, that does not prompt me to ignore reality, disregard facts just to hate on Trump.

When you see Soros rallying thugs to shut down free speech, papers running false stories, the left lying constantly about his statements, one has to wonder why the left is so afraid of their own agenda being judged on its own merits and compared to Trumps. Perhaps because it is decrepit and failed?

@Reem:

Trump is a narcissistic, dangerous man born with a silver spoon up his butt and nothing but hatred and racism in his heart. And those who support him are the dumbest this country has to offer.

For instance, how many times have I asked for actual examples of Trump’s racism with no valid response? Does it make you idiots feel better to call him (or anyone you fear will expose your failed ideology) a racist? Even more amazing is you cannot figure out how lame and stupid it sounds to people with actual knowledge. You only make Trump stronger by validating and verifying everything he says. Idiots.

Bill When you keep yelling Soros and mainstream media over and over it seems ridiculous–Are you blaming them for Trump’s 70% disapproval–75% with women?
Do you think he can win a national election with those negatives–have you seen his polling #’s against HRC?
Do you know something all these people don’t?-Can you let us in on it so you won’t look so foolish in your blind support of such an unpopular man?
Did you know his oldest daughter and 2nd oldest son are registered Dems? Has Donald remembered to change his registration?

Bill I don’t hate Trump. I am actually quite pleased he is running and winning
He will be a super easy opponent for the Dems in 2016
I hope he DOES get stronger and wins the GOP nomination. The GOP got hijacked by extremists neither Cruz nor Trump is electable in the general election
So Bill do you think either Cruz or Trump will win ?
Do you think American women (the single largest voting block) would vote for Cruz who says that if they become pregnant through rape or incest that they should not be able to have a legal abortion? That is like the position of ISIS
This is what you get when moderates let extremists hijack your party.

@john: Who is this “strong” opponent? Hillary, the distrusted, corrupt, lying, unlikable, incompetent that got a consulate sacked, Americans killed and served up 2000 classified documents for our enemies to peruse? Or Bernie, the un-accomplished misogynist that watched as the VA deteriorated and espouses the most failed eco/government system on the planet? This crap may appeal to dim-witted liberals but not most Americans.

Do you think American women (the single largest voting block) would vote for Cruz who says that if they become pregnant through rape or incest that they should not be able to have a legal abortion? That is like the position of ISIS

Do you think they will be impressed with a misogynist who believes those very women dream of being gang raped? Or, will they turn to the shrew that not only disregards her misogynistic husband abusing women but actually attacks the victims? Don’t expect all this to go unnoticed in the general election, especially if Trump is the candidate.

Yes Bill I do think that Clinton will win easily against Trump
And all of the polls see it that way also
Even Fox News has Clinton a huge 11 points above Trump

Bill Trump is a loser in the general election

@Bill: Bill, you forgot a few things regarding sweet Hillary:

1. Bill Clinton pardoned Marc Rich who then directed many millions of dollars into the Clinton foundation. Some have said the total was $100 million.

2. Hillary cut a deal with an oligarch from, I believe, Uzbekistan whereby she approved the sale of a domestic uranium mine to this fine fellow who then donated $20 million or more to the Clinton Foundation and paid Bill huge speaking fees.

3. Millions and millions of dollars flowed to Bill Clinton via speaking fees and to the Clinton Foundation in return for other favors from Hillary as Secretary of State.

4. The Clintons siphoned millions from the Haiti rebuilding process into their foundation and into their pockets.

5. Hillary “redirected” her speaking fees to the foundation and apparently got away with it. Speaking fees are income to the blabbermouth and charitable donations are limited.

6. The Clinton Foundation was required to refile all of its income tax returns and that episode has been hushed up by the Obama IRS. We, the public have never learned about the results of that problem. Foundation tax returns are public information.

7. Hillary was directing business in Libya to her friend Sid Blumental while she was getting Qaddafi offed.

And the list goes on and on.

This type of third world corruption has been routine with the Clintons from Whitewater to the present and yet in the minds of our liberal friends, ideology matters more.

@john: Fine. Believe away. Just keep in mind that Hillary is a cornucopia of negatives and the one-on-one between her and anyone willing (or not afraid) to attack her negatives has not begun. Now, it is a fact that the media will be squarely on the side of a Hillary Presidency, but I still think there is a really good chance she can be brought off her entitled fast-track.

@Disturber: Rest assured, this is not fiction but fact and it WILL be deployed against Hillary. Many people actually know these facts and the numbers will swell when the debates begin; I don’t for a second expect NBC, CBS, PBS or ABC to report on any of this, but if Trump is the Republican candidate and the addiction the networks have for covering his every word, hoping he will screw up and provide them with ammunition (how his popularity has grown thus far), the information will be disseminated.

@Bill #26:

“Idiots!”

Yeah, those “idiots” aren’t idiotic enough to elect Trump present.

@Bill:
Bill of course you are entitled to your own opinions but you do have to see they are not held by many others

@John: As you might notice, this is not “opinion”. It is based on fact.

@Bill #35:

Another way John might have put the same idea would have been:

“Bill, you are entitled to hold the opinion that the facts that you list are enough to make Hillary lose the election, thereby giving the presidency to someone as politically inept as Trump, but that opinion is not held by enough other Americans to make it true.”

@Bill: You want facts–HRC beats Trump or Cruz and takes back Senate and SCOTUS
Kasich beats HRC–Holds Senate
Take your choice–a brokered convention gives hope.

@Rich Wheeler: Gee, if those are the “facts”, why do we even bother with elections?

The topic here is the unscrupulous means and methods the left uses to attack conservatives and Trump in particular. The question is, why does the left fear Trump so badly? Because he has no chance? Or is it that the left simply enjoys lying and trampling rights and privileges?

This morning, the Dallas Morning Propaganda cited a poll which shows only 30% of Republicans trust Trump over Clinton. Really? I would have to see the proof of the existence of a single Republican that favors Clinton over ANYONE!!

You leftists simply make me laugh. You only delude yourselves.

@Bill #38:

“The question is, why does the left fear Trump so badly?”

Where do you get the idea that the “left” is afraid of Trump? He’s a Democrat. Democrats LIKE Trump. I like Trump! I WANT the GOP to nominate Trump, and I’m AFRAID that it will jigger the Cleveland convention so that he DOESN’T get it. My fallback position in that case is that he will likely stage a third-party run for the White House, robbing the GOP candidate of his supporters in November and throwing the election to whomever the Democrats run.

This isn’t just MY pipe-dream. It is the hope of every Democrat who wants to insure that the next SCOTUS nominations come from their side of the isle. Your BELIEF that Democrats “fear” Trump is a fantasy you cling to in the hopes that the idea of it will encourage Republicans to go to the polls and VOTE for him.

Not going to happen. You watch. Donald Trump will not be elected President… EVER. And YOU don’t REALLY believe otherwise, which makes your bickering over what Democrats fear just that much sillier.

“You only delude yourselves”

Talk about the pot calling the kettle black!
AH-HA-HA-HA-HA!

@George Wells: Case in point…

I think that your premise that the left “fears” Trump is incorrect
The “left” I am not even sure what you mean by that. Is it any and all who would even consider voting for a Democrat? Is it simply anyone who does not recoil in abject horror upon reading the name SOROS?
Would it include all those Americans who now believe that the Iraq Afghanistan invasions/occupations were colossal mistakes OOOOOPZ wait, no we can’t include them because Trump himself agrees with that. So who exactly is it that “fears” Trump being nominatrd? Not me, I think he woukd be the easiest to beat in the general.

@John: Actually, the “colossal mistake” was the ill-advised, stupid withdrawals from those regions which has created turmoil and the return to combat duty of our troops.

That would be on YOU guys.

Bill
That is sure a minority view
Even Trump thinks so
You seem to have forgotten that it was Bush who signed the agreement that OBLIGATED us to leave
However I have always thought that either you or anyone else who wants to return and try and straightened out that clusterf*ck should be encouraged to do so
Would you be interested in doing that?
Or are you mostly in favor of having someone else do whatbyoubyorself will not ?

@John:

Bill That is sure a minority view Even Trump thinks so

The vast majority of non-liberal apologists and the national security folks who advised him, as well as three of his Secretaries of Defense share my view (or vice versa). If only the genius Obama had had the humility and intelligence to listen to THEM, we would not have ISIS today.

Well unfortunately that decision to remain was not one solely the USA could make
That is why Maliki who Bush put in place demanded the SOFA to include taking aal of out combat troops out by 2011
Bush signed that just few weeks before the old one which protected our troops from being held accountable under Iraqi law was due to expire
Please also remember that at that time your boy Bush had approval ratings 1/3 of what Obama has now
Americans rate him as worst POTUS in their lifetime
But again you want to go overland straighten it out yourself? Or do you just want to tell someone else (Obama) to send others(US military) over to do what you yourself will not?

@John: Obama could have negotiated to keep troops there, as intended… he didn’t even try. He blew it, he failed and the world has ISIS. By the way, Bush is more popular with Muslims than Obama, for whom they have no respect.

@Bill: You use Trump and Conservatives in the same breath?” Even 2 of his kids are registered Dems. He’s an opportunistic populist. If not for his free press coverage he’d have been wintering in Palm Beach months ago.
Kasich secures nom. on 3rd or 4th ballot in Cleve. Picks Rubio and beats HRC.

Trump isn’t within 20 points of Obama approval rating—30% vs 51%

He could have negotiated ? With who? Maliki?
Maliki was put in by Al Sadr if Maliki had signed ANYTHING that allowed combat troops to remain Al Sadr woukd have withdrawn his support and Msliki woukd have been toast
The Iraqi people, with few exceptions, wanted the USA out
The majority of the Iraqis don’t like us and would have continued to kill us if we had continued to occupy their country The majority are people who like Iran.
After 10 years they wanted us OUT
AS did the majority of Americans
If you think the Iraqis deserve more help from us, we’ll by all means fly over and give it to them
10years was much more than I think they deserve to straighten out their own problems
I don’t want to give anymore treasure or lives
Send us email when you get there
Bon voyage, good luck, and good hunting

The WSJ reports today that Obama has 5,000 special ops and marines fighting in Iraq. Hummmm.

@John: Yeah, he could have negotiated if he hadn’t preferred the headlines. Of course, his weakness, ignorance and untrustworthiness would have made negotiations difficult; as with Iran schooling him.

@Disturber: How bout that “no boots on the ground” promise?
