Angry GOP Voters and Donald Trump – The Enemy of My Enemy is Not My Friend

Loading

I’m angry. I’m actually damn angry. I’m angry that Americans have twice voted into the highest office in the land a man who is demonstrably anti-American, who sows racial tension, who has sought to destroy free markets, who has turned much of the nation into a welfare state and who has crippled the American military and destroyed American influence around the world. To me, Barack Obama is a cancer on the American body politic and the nation.

But I’m not angry at Obama… well, I really am, but he’s not who has animated me the most in the last six years. It’s actually the GOP establishment. I’ve gone to Tea Party rallies near and far. I’ve voted for candidates who claimed they were conservatives. I’ve donated money, I’ve manned phone lines, I’ve put up signs along the highway. I even gave lectures on the constitution and started writing a blog. All for what?

We have Obamacare, lock stock and barrel, and its numerous exceptions, extensions and a plethora of executive orders. We have a NLRB that thinks it can tell companies where they can invest and who they must hire. We have an IRS that’s become a thug enforcement arm of the Democrat party. And of course we have trillions more dollars of debt than we did eight years ago.

Needless to say, I’m angry at the betrayal. In 2010 we were told that the GOP couldn’t do anything because they were a minority in the House. So we voted them into power. Then we were told that we needed the White House, and somehow the GOP was able to screw up an election that should have been theirs on a silver platter. Then in 2014 we were told that they still couldn’t do anything because Harry Reid ran the Senate. By 2015 he was on the sidelines. But now we’re told that they can’t do anything because Democrats control the White House.

Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me 4 times shame on me. Exit poll after exit poll shows that Republican voters are livid with the GOP and want to burn it and Washington to the ground… hence the attraction of Donald Trump. Millions of people across the country who are disgusted with the GOP are flocking to the banner of a guy who will definitely not be held hostage to political correctness. A guy who doesn’t care about sucking up to minority voters. A guy who says what’s on his mind. Indeed, Donald Trump with his big business billions and his big mouth make many Americans stand up and say “Yeah, that’s what I’m talking about!” He makes them feel like an NFL receiver spiking the football right in front of a safety who blew his coverage. In a word, they want a winner who will destroy the liars in Washington.

The problem however is something that was revealed in a 2013 study by Washington State University. The first line of the piece says it all “Being confident and loud is the best way to win an argument – even if you are wrong”. The study basically suggests that people are more drawn to someone who sounds confident and is loud – even obnoxious – than they are to someone who’s right. And with Donald Trump that’s exactly what we have. GOP voters want someone who’s unabashedly pro-American. That’s Trump. They want someone who says he’s going to seal the border. That’s Trump. They want someone who’s immune to political correctness. That’s Trump.

Unfortunately, in this case the ancient adage “The enemy of my enemy is my friend” is simply wrong. Donald Trump may indeed be anti-establishment, but that’s different than being pro freedom, pro prosperity and pro limited government.

Those are the things necessary to change Washington, the things that are necessary to rein in the leviathan of government, the things that are necessary to restore the freedom of the American people and unleash the prosperity that comes with it. Those are the things that Ted Cruz offers, but may not get the opportunity to execute because voters are too busy focusing on the bombastic guy at the other side of the bar.

That of course is Ted Cruz’s challenge over the next month: Demonstrate to GOP voters that trash talking will not fix what’s wrong with the county. Convince them that braggadocio will not dislodge an entrenched bureaucratic borg that seeks to control virtually every aspect of a citizen’s life. Articulate why his constitutional principles make him the correct vehicle for their anger, and not Donald Trump. If he can do this, there is some hope for redemption for the party as it’s redefined by conservative principals. If not, not only will the party be gone, but much of what made America great in the first place. Ideas like free markets and individual liberty are already on the ropes. Let’s hope they don’t go down for the count.

I wrote this last night:

OK, just got home from this rally.
While waiting outside for 2 &1/2 hours we met and talked with three young men from Brigham Young U. Plus two older couples from miles away who drove into SLC just to see Trump.
The three young men were remarkably well-informed on a wide variety of subjects.
And, although LDS they had no intention of having the Church tell them how to vote.
They were wildly pro-Trump.
The Secret Service let all the Veterans in first.
Then our line started moving.

Inside we talked and listened to a few other people before the program started.
Everyone was pro-Trump.
There were NO demonstrators on the inside.

In fact, we never knew there were any on the outside until we were heading for our car.
Police kept the two groups apart by sending us all out via side and read exits instead of the front which was where we had come in.

There were three new endorsements of Trump from high-ranking Republicans at the state level:
The Speaker of the House, the Majority leader in the Senate and one other top Republican.

Donald Trump arrived and lit up the place.
The crowd was enthusiastic.
Utah’s Trump supporters take being ”vulgarians” very seriously.

Donald Trump told the crowd how much he appreciated Mormons in his workplaces.
The crowd loved it!
Apparently those young men are not the only LDS who will vote based on their own conscience instead of following any church official’s line.
Fully over 1/2 of the crowd said they were Mormons when Trump asked who was.

Tired and ready to rest.
It was worth the effort.

I’d highly recommend going to a Trump rally if you get the chance.

@Nanny G: So glad your rally had no negative experiences, so I guess I wont spot you in the crowd on MSNBC the rally most likely wont hit the news at all.

@kitt: #49
As long as it’s not Kettle Corn. Popcorn should be salty, not sweet. With a touch of Texas Pete’s.

@Nanny G: #51
“I’d highly recommend going to a Trump rally if you get the chance.”
I’d like to, Nanny, but the only things that come to Savannah seem to be gun and knife shows.
No political conventions.
No comic-cons.
No trade shows.
No riots.
No marches.
No nuttin’
It’s kind of boring, actually.

@Petercat: No I have the buttery style.
In a news conference, Deanna Favre announced she will be the starting Quarterback for the Green Bay Packers football team next season.
Deanna asserts that she is qualified to be the starting QB because she had spent 16 years married to Brett while he played QB for the Packers – even though she has actually never played football at any level from grade school up, never ran the offense of any team, nor ever played the game.

During this period of time, she became familiar with the definition of a corner blitz, the nickel package, man-to-man coverage, so she is now completely comfortable with all the other terminology involving the Packers offense. A survey of Packers fans shows 50% of those polled supported the move.

Does this sound idiotic and unbelievable … or familiar to you?
Hillary Clinton makes the same claims as to why she is qualified to be the President of the United States and 50% of Democrats polled agree.

She has never run a city, county, or state during her “career” as being Bill Clinton’s wife. When told Hillary Clinton has experience because she has 8 years in the White House, my immediate thought was, “So does the pastry chef, and the person who picks up dog shit from the White House Lawn.”

When it comes to running the State Department, her biggest achievement was getting a US Ambassador and 3 other Americans killed, by pretending terrorism had been defeated…..Her words still echo…”what difference does it make?”

Comment: At least Deanna Favre is nice looking!
Go Pack Go

@kitt: But kitt, you will agree that Hillary has learned to bark like a dog very well. That should help in talking with congress.

Buttery is good.
I had to buy a microwave popper because I couldn’t find pre-made with hot sauce. Funny, popcorn is the only food I use hot sauce on.
But it’s good.

@Redteam: #56
If only we could fit her with a muzzle.

@Redteam: She is a bit more like Cujo than Lassie.

This was taken by a University of Arizona student so security did not screen the rally and keep protestors in a properly designated area. The comments mention a protestor wearing a KKK hood I watched it but could not spot the hood. The Trump poster has the confederate flag over Trumps face.

To all FA trumpeteers—Fox says Trump has a “sick obsession with Megyn Kelly.”
Is there a cure for him?

@kitt: #59
But her bark is more authentic.

@Richard Wheeler: #61
And you believe everything Fox says.
Trump doesn’t need a cure. You do.
It’s called education. The only cure for gullibility.
“I saw it on TV, it must be true!”
“I read it on the internet! It must be true!”
Tell me, Ricky, do you… Oh, never mind. You wouldn’t know.

@Richard Wheeler: Say what you may, but Megan Kelly mentions Trump many more times every day than Trump mentions her. Every one of her shows is 100% Trump, she never mentions anything else if it’s not related to the Trump Campaign. She actually seems to like Trump.

@Petercat:

It’s called education. The only cure for gullibility.

Petercat, don’t know if you know it, but education is a problem with RW, he went to one to them Ivory league schools where all they teach them is how to shout ‘racism’. Those schools don’t give out Master’s degrees any longer because if you are a student of someone with a “Master’s Degree” that means you are his slave. He’s your master.

@kitt

: The comments mention a protestor wearing a KKK hood I

Those commie liberal Dimocrats are obsessed with imitating the KKK. And they also seem to have a hangup with confederate flags. Would never see that stuff if it was for the Dims. Oh well, they’re keeping someone employed making all those hoodies and flags.

@Petercat: Yes shave Cujos face and He passes for for a Democratic feminist.

@Redteam: All part time jobs, still could not see it in the video, Other Trump backers did stop a pretty good beat-down.

@kitt:

Cujos face and He passes for for a Democratic feminis

I don’t know, Cujo might be too good looking.

@Redteam:
Here’s a first hand account from a black man who is NOT a trump supporter who was there.
Also the guy is a police officer.
He saw the KKK thing first hand:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=03Bt6b8PPP0

@Redteam: Then they could put tampon earrings on him and Whala MSNBC commentator.

@Richard Wheeler: Hey Richie, Gov Moonbeam says he’s going to build a wall around Gayfornia to keep the gays and Mexicans there. Could you get him to go ahead and get started before anymore of them leave there, unless they’re going back to Mexico. Go ahead and send him a big tax payment so he can get started.

Anyone interested in the True story about racism in politics?

A black Tucson Police Officer decided he was going to attend a Donald Trump campaign rally for himself to see if the media’s reports about his supporters being violent were true. After the event, he uploaded a video in which he made a shocking admission about Trump’s supporters, and an even more stunning admission about his protesters.

Officer Brandon Tatum went to the Saturday night rally Trump held in Tucson, and as a black man, he should have been absolutely terrified of Trump’s “racist, bigoted” supporters, if he were to listen to media reports, that is. But according to Breitbart, Tatum had an entirely different experience from what’s reported by the liberal media, and he says it’s actually the anti-Trump supporters who are the most hateful, evil people he’s ever seen.

In fact, he said they became so bad that mothers had to cover their children’s ears to protect them from hearing the awful things that #BlackLivesMatter people were saying.

@Redteam: You trumpeteers want to forfeit THE Mexican and gay vote? You’ve already lost women. Never had Blacks or Jews
Try winning with just white male protestants–good luck.with that

Have you and Nan seen Utah polls? No surprise you’ve lost The Mormons.

@Richard Wheeler: Trump losing the western vote may not be as simple as religion. Trump is against giving the States the rights to land within their borders. Cruz has come out for the Feds to hand over these millions of acres to the States control. The BLM, which has outlived its original purpose, could then be another fed dept eliminated. One of the other 3 depts could take some of these employees but would not need them all.
curious how much land is owned by state or federal gov. by state.

@kitt: #67
Shave the other end and he resembles a Democrat Presidential candidate.

The best part (and the best advice) begins at 8:20.
Maybe Ricky will listen for once, and follow his advice.

@Petercat: Utah Republicans to Use Online Voting in Caucuses – Counted by Soros Linked Company, will this be true in the general election? friggin scary

@kitt:
You know, I can’t find exit polling data for Utah. I can find sites like this one:
http://election2016unitedstates.blogspot.com/2016/03/utah-republican-exit-polls-march-22-2016.html
that promised to publish the polling data as soon as it came in, but haven’t.
Makes me wonder if the exit polls disagreed with the official results.

@Petercat: Caucuses have outlived their purpose by a couple of generations, weird about the exit polling in Iowa they reported every time someone walked in or out.

I am tired of good people getting so caught up in rooting for their side in the culture wars that we are unable to unite against corruption and stupidity.

I have a problem with what president’s Ford through Obama have in common. There is no majority block of voters that puts the short term profits of politically active corporation above the economic interests of the the future generations of Americans.

Please recognize Obama and Bush as being corporate Welfare Republicrats. Before there was Obamacare there was Romneycare and before that there was Hillarycare and it was born in corporate funded think tanks. Bush and Obama both steered taxpayer money to the pharmaceutical industry.

Adam Smith wanted to defend free markets from crony capitalism. Socialism did not exist in his time.

America foreign policy is expensive and ineffective and is similar regardless whether a Republican or a Democrat is in office.

Quantitative easing was far more efficient at enriching Wall Street than it was at stimulating the American economy.

I don’t want Trump but I won’t vote for Republicrats anymore. I will no longer vote for anybody who takes money from Goldman Sachs and that included most of the candidates that ran this year.

@Anti-Republicrat:

I don’t want Trump but I won’t vote for Republicrats anymore. I will no longer vote for anybody who takes money from Goldman Sachs and that included most of the candidates that ran this year.

Which is why so many people on both sides of the fence are looking to non-mainstream candidates – either Trump, with no political experience but also owes no political favors to anyone, or Sanders, who is intellectually a child (much like Obama), but sounds unlikely to pander to Wall Street and other connected businesses.

The problem with Sanders (apart from his infantile economic world view) is that he is such a moron he will undoubtedly be persuaded to hire from the same pool Obama did or that Clinton would – Goldman Sachs and other Wall Street insiders.
