A Brain-damaged Media

“I think it might be a better idea – I know it’s a crazy idea – but maybe we focus on the issues impacting the American people and what candidates are saying, rather than just spending so much time exploring their lives of 30 or 40 years ago,”
Bernie Sanders, Meet the Press

A DB article with the headline blurb:

Ben Carson Was Sued for Malpractice at Least Eight Times

This reminds me of the joke,

The Pope is visiting DC and President Bush takes him out for an afternoon on the Potomac, sailing on the presidential yacht.

They’re admiring the sights when, all of a sudden, the Pope’s hat blows off his head and into the water. The Secret Service men start to launch a boat, but Bush waves them off, saying, “Wait, wait. I’ll take care of this. Don’t worry.”

Bush then steps off the yacht and onto the surface of the water. He walks out to the Holy Father’s hat, bends over and picks it up, then walks back across the water to the yacht and climbs aboard. He hands the hat to the Pope amid stunned silence.

The next morning the topic of conversation among Democrats on the Hill, CBS News, NBC News, ABC News, the New York Times, Hollywood celebrities, and in France and Germany is “Bush Can’t Swim.”

While it’s certainly often the case that the headline blurb is created by someone other than the writer, it’s difficult not to believe that Gideon Resnick, the writer of the DB article, doesn’t have a political agenda (just look at his previous writings). He attempts to take a non-malicious tone (probably because he couldn’t find any actual mud that could actually stick); but it’s difficult to believe the premise for the article wasn’t for lack in wanting to find something juicy and sensationalist as well as politically damaging to Dr. Carson’s presidential aspirations.

At least Resnick has enough journalistic integrity in his brains to conclude his piece with the money quote:

Despite the MRI malpractice case, though, most experts agree that Carson had a very small amount of blemishes for a job that is as hard as it gets.

“It doesn’t seem outrageous to me, to be honest with you,” Karten said. “This is a very risky area that you’re operating in, the brain. There’s a lot of questions on what a patient is told. But that doesn’t mean it’s malpractice. You have to do something or deviate from the standard of care. I don’t think this is a tremendous amount of malpractice over the years he’s been practicing.”

Thank you Daily Beast for contextualizing and setting the record straight….at least at the bottom of the article and not for a lack of trying in digging up dirt on his past as a neurosurgeon.

As everyone with a lick of sense knows, most doctors will be sued sometime in their career:

The study also reported that, although many suits are filed, relatively few are successful. The aggrieved patient wins only 22 percent of the time.

The study’s findings are not a huge revelation to malpractice insurers, of course.

~~~
The physicians with the highest risk of being sued were the neurosurgeons, with an annual risk of 19.1 percent
~~~

In the study conclusion, Jena and colleagues wrote: “Our results may speak to why physicians consistently report concern over malpractice and the intense pressure to practice defensive medicine, despite evidence that the scope of defensive medicine is modest.”

In Carson’s long career, eight is a pretty low number.

How good of a neurosurgeon is Ben Carson?

Johns Hopkins and Baltimore, Maryland would become his home for most of his career, as Dr. Carson went on to direct pediatric neurosurgery at the Johns Hopkins Children’s Center for 29 years.

Some of Dr. Carson’s career highlights include the first successful separation of craniopagus (Siamese) twins joined at the back of the head in 1987, the first completely successful separation of type-2 vertical craniopagus twins in 1997 in South Africa, and the first successful placement of an intrauterine shunt for a hydrocephalic twin.

I would rank Dr. Carson on a scale above “Ok doctor”.

I think Ben Carson was a fine surgeon.
He is proving to be a pretty good candidate, too.
I happen to disagree with him on some make-or-break issues so that I, personally, cannot support him in a primary.

He supports Obama’s Trans-Pacific Trade Partnership and further globalization.

Only a day after the White House posted the (3 times the length of the Bible) text of the TPP deal online, Mr. Carson’s campaign said Friday that he supports the final product.
Had he read the bill?
It enshrines Obama’s global agenda
on wages, free flow of foreign workers and climate mandates.
It also surrenders US sovereignty to a committee of lesser 3rd world powers and subverts Congressional powers over any changes.

OK, that’s one biggie.
Then there’s this:

Carson supports Puerto Rican Statehood.

Carson backs Puerto Rican statehood

A few years ago Puerto Rico voted against statehood.
PR is threatening to default on its debt.

Also, as an older American I was aghast that Carson is threatening the existence of Medicare.
Up until recently he wanted to completely supplant Medicare with a medical savings account.
Now he wants a double system that allows older folks to pick one way or the other. (I guess he got the message about how older people cannot start saving after retirement.)
Ben guestimated this would only cost $650 billion, but his estimate doesn’t take into account growth in population, inflation and administrative costs.
Them paper pushers can really be expensive for all their breaks and benes.

As to how police interact with black criminals, Ben Carson weighed in.
When asked if he would have shot Michael Brown if he had been in Wilson’s shoes, Carson said: “It’s hard to say. I probably, knowing who he was, I probably just would have arrested him.”
Well, how in hell can you ”know who he was” BEFORE the man comes up to your patrol car and hits you then tries to take your gun???
Talk about 20-20 hindsight.

ObamaTrade: Total Surrender to the NWO… Carson is just another lawn jockey.

AIPAC is doing fundraisers for the Congress critters that supported Obama’s so-called Iran “deal.”

Jüdischen bankiers sind überschwemmung Europa mit Muslimen und Amerika mit Dritte Welt Papierkorb.

When my daughter was an ER nurse, she was named in a suit where a woman was suing the hospital because of an IV “blowout”… when blood leaks out of the vein under the skin. Basically, it is a painless bruise. I’ve had it when I have given blood.

My daughter didn’t even administer the IV; she just signed the chart one night.

People will sue for anything; the fact there was a suit of suits is meaningless. What would be critical would be the content. But, the liberal media is not too interested in content.

@Vlad65: Jüdischen bankiers sind überschwemmung Europa mit Muslimen und Amerika mit Dritte Welt Papierkorb.

Rough translation:

Jewish bankers are flooding Europe with Muslims and America with Third World trash.

This quote is all over the web.
What it has to do with Ben Carson is beyond me.
His PAC money comes from the Mitt Romney school of business….ie., the US Chamber of Commerce, at 180′ odds from local Main Street Chambers of Commerce.

Carson is a loon;

1. West Point doesn’t offer scholarships. Lie.

2. The Egyptians didn’t use pyramids as grain silos. Lie or delusional belief.

3. God didn’t give him the answers to his Chemistry final. Total fabrication.

4. The Baltimore Police can’t find any evidence of the good doctor being a victim in an armed robbery.

5. His attempt to stab a friend isn’t backed up by any witness.

He is possibly insane which makes him a perfect candidate for the conservatives.

@Nanny G:

I happen to disagree with him on some make-or-break issues so that I, personally, cannot support him in a primary.

I’ve come to the same position on Carson. While an outsider, he is more likely than not to take a RINO’s position on too many issues.

@Nanny G:

Aus der Asche der alten Welt, entzündet sich eine neue Flamme… Unsere Welt wird brennen, die Angst und Zweifel werden im Feuer untergehen.

@Rasputin: You are quite the product of the corrupt media.

1. Yes, indeed West Point DOES offer scholarships (for military service). They themselves call them such. Had you read an earlier information piece here on FA, you would know this.

2. Lie or simply incorrect? Why would he “lie” about the Pyramids being grain silos? Was he selling grain to Egyptians?

3. How do you know? Did God tell you he didn’t?

4. How many victims of robbery do you think never file a report?

5. His mother backs up his story.

Apparently, the mere thought of someone lying upsets you quite a bit. Tell us, what do you think of Obama lying about healthcare, taxes, jobs, the “stimulus”, Fast and Furious, Benghazi, the IRS Iraq, ISIS, the Muslim Brotherhood, Michael Brown, Trayvon Martin, or Iran? What about Hillary’s lies about Benghazi, her emails, classified documents, dodging sniper bullets, the Clinton Foundation contributors, her two phones, her trying to join the Marines, Rose Law firm billing, Travel Office firings, FBI files, cattle futures, the Watergate investigation, Whitewater or supporting the war in Iraq? Unlike what you list of Carson, these are REAL LIES that affected REAL PEOPLE. Your thoughts?

@Vlad65: Yeah, well if you want me to consider that thought, you’ll have to present it in English.

The Golden Calf has grown up to be a hollow Bronze Bull.

All the “chosen parasites” on the Supreme Court, in Congress and in the leviathan bureaucracy are gun gabbing, Christian bashing traitors.

@Vlad65: From the ashes of the old world, ignited a new flame. Our world is burning, the fear and doubt are in perish fire.

@Vlad65: Yes, the Ukraine should forget about NATO, Vlad.
But you really must speak English here.

@Vlad65: Frankreich legte Jean-Marie Le Pen im Gefängnis für den Islam zu kritisieren!

Yes, it is becoming illegal almost everywhere (not just France) to criticize Islam, Vlad.
The UK is right behind France in this.
If Obama got his way we would be, too.
