The eerie parallels between Roseburg and Sandy Hook

The parallels between Roseburg and Sandy Hook are eerie. I mean really eerie.

A mass murder

Mass shooting murders took place in Sandy Hook CT and Roseburg OR

A mother in love with guns

Nancy Lanza was a gun enthusiast

Laurel Harper was a gun enthusiast

A mentally ill son

Adam Lanza was mentally ill

Richard Novia, the school district’s head of security until 2008, who also served as adviser for the school technology club, said Lanza clearly “had some disabilities.”

Christopher Harper Mercer was mentally ill:

“She said that ‘my son is a real big problem of mine,’ ” Ms. Jefferson said in a telephone interview. “She said: ‘He has some psychological problems. Sometimes he takes his medication, sometimes he doesn’t. And that’s where the big problem is, when he doesn’t take his medication.’ ”

A mother who let her mentally ill son have access to many weapons

Laurel Mercer:

In an online forum, answering a question about state gun laws several years ago, Ms. Harper took a jab at “lame states” that impose limits on keeping loaded firearms in the home, and noted that she had AR-15 and AK-47 semiautomatic rifles, along with a Glock handgun. She also indicated that her son, who lived with her, was well versed in guns, citing him as her source of information on gun laws, saying he “has much knowledge in this field.”

“I keep two full mags in my Glock case. And the ARs & AKs all have loaded mags,” Ms. Harper wrote. “No one will be ‘dropping’ by my house uninvited without acknowledgement.”

Nancy Lanza allowed her son access to many weapons.

A mother in denial

Lanza taught her mentally ill son how to shoot:

“She was really kind and warm,” Mr. Leff said, “but she always seemed a little bit high-strung.”

He declined to elaborate, but in a post on his personal Web site, he said he felt a distance from her that was explained when he heard, after the shootings, “how difficult her troubled son,” Adam, “was making things for her.”

Neighbors in Southern California have said that Ms. Harper and her son would go to shooting ranges together, something Ms. Harper seemed to confirm in one of her online posts. She talked about the importance of firearms safety and said she learned a lot through target shooting, expressing little patience with unprepared gun owners: “When I’m at the range, I cringe every time the ‘wannabes’ show up.”

Both events ended in suicide.

Terrible casualties

Sandy Hook: 26 dead

Roseburg: 10 dead

Mental illness. It’s the commonality in nearly all, if not all, mass shootings. It’s not the number of guns, it’s not even the guns.

There is an answer and that is to prevent the mentally ill from gaining access to weapons. There are two problems with that. One, it won’t work in some cases and two, liberals keep blocking it.

It won’t work when the mothers of the mentally ill are in denial and allow their offspring easy access to weapons as happened in both of these events.

Second, liberals stand in the way. It’s called HIPAA. Much as the loathsome Jamie Gorelick erected the walls between agencies that prevented anyone from zeroing in on the 9-11 plots, liberals block the ability to stop then sales of weapons to the mentally ill (think Virginia Tech). HIPAA is a royal pain in the ass for healthcare providers and adds layers of costs in addition to everything else.

All that blabber that came out of Hillary’s mouth about gun control? It’s bullshit. None of it would have stopped Sandy Hook or Roseburg and it won’t stop the next one either.

We healthcare providers can’t tell the FBI someone is insane. We can’t tell anyone that a patient should never have a weapon. That would upset liberals, who are then upset when someone who never should have had a gun kills people. That’s pretty ironic considering that all medical records are going to go online where they will absolutely be hacked and you’ll be shaken down financially to prevent them from being made public, all thanks to the idiots who brought you Obamacare.

Somewhere, Joseph Heller is shaking his head.

DrJohn has been a health care professional for more than 30 years. In addition to clinical practice he has done extensive research and has published widely with over 70 original articles and abstracts in the peer-reviewed literature. DrJohn is well known in his field and has lectured on every continent except for Antarctica. He has been married to the same wonderful lady for over 30 years and has three kids- two sons, both of whom are attorneys and one daughter on her way into the field of education. DrJohn was brought up with the concept that one can do well if one is prepared to work hard but nothing in life is guaranteed. Except for liberals being foolish.

ya left out that they were both on the feminists family plan…

N.H. Nancy Lanza filed for divorce in 2009
Mercer and Harper filed for divorce on 6 June 2006

but no reason for any governmental agency to be expected to step in and say “Hey mental illness and guns are a bad mix”
    Right ???
Also HIPPA was passed in 1998 by the GOP Congress. Since that time Congress has had only a few years with Dem Party control. Exactly how is it that the liverals are blocking HIPPA reform ? All 25 co sponsors of the Bill in the House were GOP
Dr J will try and blame “liberals” for just about anything.

Before we go overboard on the “mentally ill” thing, I should point out that being diagnosed as mentally ill does not necessarily mean that the person affected is a danger.
Let’s be careful here, because the people who define what “mentally ill” is might not have our best interests in mind.

    @Petercat: That’s a great point, Petercat.
However, a person, an ex-cop and veteran was diagnosed with insomnia.
First thing that happened was his guns were taken away!
The claim that one’s ailments are not shared with the gov’t are out the window.
When the gov’t wants to grab your guns, your voluntary request for medical assistance becomes an involuntary hospitalization and the gun grab commences!

Sorry, but you can’t make a data set from two points. The parents of one of the Columbine shooters were so anti-gun the kid wasn’t allowed to have toy guns growing up.

    Madness can not be predicted.
