A Day in the Bias of the Washington Post (Guest Post)

The day I’m referring to actually happened back in February, but it’s no less relevant now. I receive a few daily news updates from The Washington Post that include some headlines and a quick blurb on each. I noticed that when Scott Walker hit his early surge WaPo was usually good for at least one spot a day to join the rest of the MSM’s “Hate early and hate often” campaign against him. One example shows that WaPo digging deep into his college records, because of course having any questions about one’s educational background would immediately disqualify any candidate for the presidency…

One of the more memorable “Evening Buzz” e-mails from WaPo featured these gems on February 23rd: Republicans split on DHS funding, edging closer to partial agency shutdown.

Congressional Republicans remain sharply divided over the looming standoff over funding the Department of Homeland Security, prompting White House officials to prepare to shut down an agency designed to protect everything from the nation’s borders to the president.

Of course any potential shutdown would be the fault of Republicans! Nowhere in the article is there any mention that the standoff was over an illegal action by President Obama that he himself said was unlawful on multiple occasions.

Next up was a post on Mike Huckabee, Mike Huckabee, Tour Guide in the Holy Land. I really can’t tell if the overall article is fair or if it’s intended to be negative or condescending, and that’s mainly from my own lens of not being too fond of Huckabee myself. One part of the piece stood out:

The Huckabeeans also heard from Morton Klein, national president of the Zionist Organization of America, who explained to the group, according to Huckabee, that there’s really no such thing as the “Palestinians.”

“The idea that they have a long history, dating back hundreds or thousands of years, is not true,” Huckabee said.

The tourists didn’t hear from the Palestinians themselves on this matter.

I actually think that last line is a fair point, although somehow I doubt that some of the more, ah… interesting, opinions coming out of Gaza would get the same editorial retort from the author. And at the end of the article the comments section reads pretty much how one would expect in The Post.

After that we had a blurb from Karen Tumulty offering a tasteful hit piece on Documents show the expensive tastes of Jeb Bush’s low-key wife, focusing on a 19 year old and perfectly legal purchase. It was so ridiculous that the next day Brietbart’s John Nolte tore her article apart.

Back to the man who the left loves to hate, Scott Walker, we learned that Walker’s anti-union law has labor reeling in Wisconsin. This tale of woe never gets around to mentioning that what hurt unions most in Wisconsin was giving its citizens the freedom to choose whether or not they want to pay union dues. At least buried deep in the column was the reality of what was accomplished that no leftist wants to acknowledge:

Walker has pointed to the unions’ membership troubles as a victory — presenting himself as a conservative warrior unafraid of taking on big battles against liberal interests.

Walker’s administration has said forcing public employees to contribute more to retirement plans and health insurance helped local governments save $3 billion. The governor also has credited the 2011 law with saving homeowners money on property taxes while giving school districts the ability to make reforms that increased third-grade reading levels and high school graduation rates. And the law has emboldened Republican state lawmakers to further challenge Wisconsin’s labor movement this year by pushing right-to-work legislation that would allow private-sector workers to opt out of paying union dues — a measure Walker has said he would sign.

And many of us recall back in February Brian Williams’ serial lying catching up to bite him. Determined that if one of their own was going down, the right had to lose a scalp as well. The Nation’s David Corn spearheded a failed effort to take down Bill O’Reilly over his reporting on the war in the Falkland Islands back in the 80s, or as one of our great thinkers on foreign policy refers to them, “The Maldives“. WaPo did its part to help carry water for that effort with its story leading with How Bill O’Reilly imploded at CBS following his Falklands War ‘combat’ reporting.

Of course, shining a light on wrongdoing is exactly what journalism is supposed to accomplish, right? On the very next day WaPo chose an interesting picture to adorn the cover The Express, its popular free “McNews” paper that it gives away throughout the city to commuters. Here was their cover story:

Remember folks, this is the newspaper that most lefties refer to as “centrist” and even sometimes “conservative”. Expect more of the same through the 2016 elections. And beyond.

Caveat: Unless that candidate is a Democrat.

Don’t sweat it, Bob. Those of us with brains caught the sarcasm.

One example shows that WaPo digging deep into his college records,

After all, look at all they dug up on obama by digging into his college records. Well, er, uh……….

Well Huckabee is right. There has never been a country called Palestine. Palestine has always been a region. An equivalent would be calling people who live in Dalhart, TX “Pan Handlers”.

@Petercat:

Yeah, well you seem to have missed the sardonicism in my reply, so your brain is not so omnipotent as you think it is.
