Amtrak will ‘immediately’ upgrade anti-crash technology
Huh??
Amtrak said Saturday it will “immediately” act on the Federal Railroad Administration’s orders to strengthen rail safety in the Northeast Corridor.
FRA ordered that Amtrak make operational the anti-collision technology installed along the portion of track in Philadelphia where a train derailed, implement the technology along curves where the speed limits approaching a curve are significantly greater than the curve itself, and install more speed limit signage.
But wait! There’s more!
The mandate to enable Positive Train Control in the derailment area comes after Amtrak revealed that the technology is operational in the southbound lanes, but not the northbound lanes, on which the derailed train was traveling.
OMG! You mean the money was already there? You mean Republicans weren’t to blame for the crash?
If you are a reader of FA, you’d know the facts. As I wrote the other day, the money was indeed there and the technology was being installed.
And as I wrote the other day, the Obama stimulus contained $1.3 billion for Amtrak grants.
The bodies of the dead hadn’t been recovered before democrats politicized the Amtrak crash. At the front of the parade was Dick Blumenthal, one of our illustrious idiot Connecticut Senators.
BLUMENTHAL: Absolutely shocking and disgraceful that right now even as this tragedy is unfolding, even as we’re learning answers to vital question about the causes of this terrible tragic crash, the House of Representatives is considering cuts to the rail.
On the contrary, we should be investing, redoubling our commitment to the quality and reliability of tracks and equipment, cameras facing inward and outward, other kinds of safety and reliability equipment like automatic train control that would have slowed down the train if excessive speed was responsible. And this kind of commitment is no longer a luxury or convenience, it’s a necessity.

At that meeting too, Democrats accused Republicans of failing to protect the safety of the American people by supporting cuts to Amtrak. Representative Steve Israel (D-New York) claimed that Republicans “failed to invest in their safety” while Representative Chaka Fattah (D-Pennsylvania) told committee members “We do know that if we don’t invest in the capital infrastructure of our country, there will be future accidents and there will be people who you represent or in your districts who will be facing the circumstances that the people I talked about, who are in hospitals in my district, are facing now.”
You will recall the odious and loathsome Carol Costello, who delighted in the attack on Bristol Palin:

She hammered the Palins on-air, but never did apologize on-air.
Once again Costello adamantly and adroitly avoided facts, seeking to make political hay out of a tragedy and once again making herself look like the complete moron she is.
Cristina Alesci: There’s going to be increasing questions about infrastructure, and whether infrastructure along this corridor can really handle the kind of capacity that it’s seen in the last couple of year, and how recent increases will really tax the system.
Carol Costello: And it’s interesting, Cristina, because at 10 a.m. Eastern time the House Appropriations Committee will meet, and this was planned of course before this train accident happened, but on the agenda, lawmakers are considering cutting the Amtrak budget by hundreds of millions of dollars.
Rush Limbaugh zeroed in on why Costello was so caught up in the frenzy- it was out of pure self-concern. It’s because SHE rides this corridor.
I keep hearing how ghoulish it is to bring up funding for Amtrak’s infrastructure. Well, I actually ride an Amtrak train every other weekend because my husband lives in Boston. Last week as my Amtrak train was pulling into Providence, Rhode Island, the engine suddenly stopped working. Power on the train went out! It took them 45 minutes to fix it. The heating and cooling systems on board those trains often don’t work properly. Doors are sometimes stuck open. Sometimes the trains break down in the middle of nowhere.
A self-absorbed liberal. Go figure. This is not journalism and Carol Costello is no journalist. She is better suited to The View or Entertainment Tonight.
The Amtrak tragedy is just one more episode in the left’s morbid and appalling efforts to politicize death and cast blame where it does not belong. They have screwed this up horribly but they have achieved their shameful goals- tarring the GOP with fault. These cretins were dead wrong but will the media make sure the truth is told?

The FCC has questions about the use of the radio frequency by the electronic safety equipment to automatically slow down trains; why the north bound and not the south bound has not been explained.
The engineer by safety regs and electronic controls must keep his hand on the throttle. If the impact of the projectile on the engine’s window caused him to react in a manner I have in not so dangerous a situation, he could have accidentally pushed the throttle to the high speed notch and then as we know then tried to slow down the train. If the intent to cause an accident was the thought behind whomever attacked the engine, they picked the right spot.
I’ll bet SHE thinks (as with many liberal women ) her glasses make her ‘appear’ smart.
I do hope, there is always hope… people realize the stimulus money was ‘granted’ with the devilish blessings of a Democrat Congress..
Republicans hands (in this particular tragedy ) are pretty much clean.

The motives of the left are apparent. They loves them some taxpayer money to spend and spend and spend and spend. Often, they have to be innovative to conceive new ways to spend money, but in the end, they want money and more of it.
So, when an Amtrak trail careens off the tracks, traveling at twice the safe speed, they begin salivating at the opportunity to make the case that with just more money (our money) they can prevent this from ever happening again. Oh, don’t look behind the curtain at the $1.8 billion from “stimulus” designated for this purpose… just think of MORE money. Then, they can waste it, squander it, put some of it in their own pockets and, when the next accident happens, just ask for more money.
Money fixes everything. OUR money fixes everything.
Note to you stupid, insipid liberals… when will you finally see this for yourselves? Or, at the very least, realize that YOU are the only ones that don’t see it.

Why should the public be on the hook. Why isn’t Amtrak raising prices to generate more revenue for these “needed improvements”? Please. Mostly northeastern liberals riding Amtrak.
