Obama, September 16, 2014

The possibility of an Ebola outbreak are extremely low.

First and foremost, I want the American people to know that our experts, here at the CDC and across our government, agree that the chances of an Ebola outbreak here in the United States are extremely low.

Obama, October 15, 2015:

Now the chances of a “serious” outbreak are extraordinarily low.

“I want people to understand that the dangers of you contracting Ebola, the dangers of a serious outbreak, are extraordinarily low,”

“I am absolutely confident that we can prevent a serious outbreak of the disease here in the United States,”

What’s next and when? Obama’s canceling multiple fundraisers leave me wondering….

What was the proximity between the soup trip that media-doctor Friend of Bill (Clinton) took and where Obama’s fund raiser was?
I think they are close to one another.
That stupid doctor thought rules were for other people.

As did that stupid nurse.
As did that other (the first) nurse.
As did the family of Mr. Duncan (patient zero).
So, who are rules for?
Apparently no one thinks that VOLUNTARY quarantine rules apply to themselves.

Firestone in Africa has created the fastest and most effective treatment and isolation system for ebola.
Maybe free enterprise ought to be looked at for a viable alternative to government for ebola here.
Our Public Health system seems to have other priorities.

A flight ban for all Western African countries would help. No, West Africa will not prevent the free fall of Wall Street stocks. I see that Iran has banned all Israelis and gays from visiting their wonderful country. Maybe President Jarrett could learn from this.
Your learned Secretary of Steak, John(d student ) Kerry, has warned us all- follow my climate change mantra or the planet gets it. That’s his priority, at present.
You want more comedy, follow the vocal daydreams of Rice, Power, Psaki, and Harf.

@Nanny G:

Our Public Health system seems to have other priorities.

Just a preview of what obamcare has in store for you — and so far totally unopposed by the damn RINOs!

Since the idiots in this country like the ‘death panels’ – they will get to keep their ‘death panels’ — they will all be subject to the ‘death panels’ — let’s see – I have your voting record right here – now let’s get on with the review of YOUR case – shall WE!

I’ve been watching the hearings.
They keep forcing the Federal Medicalis up to where a travel ban is the only way to be sure, but these Obamapologists keep trusting travelers and others to ”tell the truth.”
One congressional question reminded all these doctors that Hippocrates (Of Hippocratic Oath Fame) pointed out as a first-level rule of medicine that PATIENTS ALL LIE.
Gee, didn’t any of these guys ever watch House?
Is Obama planning to pull a ”Look at me being all BI-Partisan and going along with these racist and ignorant Republicans by OK’ing a travel ban?”

A virus cell can not replicate without a host cell. The proteins of virus cells attach to the membrane of the host cell and instruct the cell’s DNA to begin replication. In every cell there is the possibility of mutation and a radical change to the properties of the virus, if the cell relies on the single strand RNA the mutations occur much more rapidly. There is also the possibility of a “marriage” of an ebola cell with a cell of the common flu, if this happens we will be stacking our dead on the sidewalks of the cities.

Do you trust this ignoramus to control such an ever changing virus?

Do you think he understands the basics of cell replication?

Does he have the slightest concept of DNA and its vulnerability within a host cell?

He is gambling with a huge percentage of American lives to make a political point to the world and Africans. Yes he will look like a big hero to black Africa, but we are the ones who will die by the millions if his gamble goes wrong.

Keep your fingers crossed, hopefully the driver of Golf Cart One has more luck than brains.

Troops returning from West Africa will be under MANDATORY QUARANTINE for 21 days at a Defense Department facility where they will be monitored for signs of the disease and treated if they do contract the virus, a Defense Department memo explained.
http://www.cnn.com/2014/10/15/us/ebola-us-troops/index.html?sr=sharebar_twitter
But the US will allow unimpeded access for West African citizens who choose to travel to the United States.

I have been watching Fox and I think Shepard Smith has lost his Meds!! His approach towards this Ebola clusterfk is amazing!!

@Nanny G: Do not forget that the military bases are all over the country — this Islamo BASTARD is going to try to get every US military base and medical facility infected – and the damn RINOs are whistling past our graveyards

Watching the deer in headlights incompetency of this administration in dealing with such a serious, dangerous health issue makes one wonder why in the world anyone thinks these bureaucratic idiots should ever be allowed to impose obamacare on the nation.

I mean really….we now have had 3 ebola patients in Dallas, and other than sending out memos on how to handle ebola patients and holding CYA press conferences, what of substance have these fools done? Wby aren’t CDC personnel going with level 4 PPE equipment to EVERY hospital in the DFW metroplex and conducting on site training, then working their way outwards to surrounding hospitals? Why aren’t such efforts being conducted at major metropolitan hospitals around the country, and working outwards to subsequent hospitals? This is suicidally insane and utterly foolish incompetency.

I don’t like being a petri dish for Obama’s experiments with Ebola. West Africa is about to have an exponential increase of infection. People with any meaner money will be leaving and the pandemic will rage around the world. Not securing our borders is asinine. If this disease begins replicating through the RNA of cells (maybe it does) it will be like AIDS or Influenza and there will be no chance to eradicate the disease like Smallpox. It will be a boom for the funeral business or at least the crematoriums. Trying to score political points with a deadly disease is criminal, Obama should step down as soon as possible.

@Skookum:

Dr. Friedman’s experience is in second-hand smoke, not second-hand Ebola.

@Andrew_M_Garland:

second-hand smoke

Classic liberal scam – musta been too late for the asbestos band wagon!
maybe he should move on to global warming/cooling/climate change BS

Oh my god we are all gonna die !
This is going to be worse than Y2K
This is worse than the invasion of sick kids
We may have to nuke Texas if a state wide quarantine can’t stop the spread to other states
ALL current medical professionals should be quarantined immediately and humanely euthanized if they refuse
Time to crank up those death panels
Anyone want to wager on the over/under number if total deaths in USA say over the next month? I believe it will stay in the single digits for one month from the death if patient zero
Winners, if still alive could collect handsomely, otherwise it of course will be disbursed to their estates

@John:
Go soak your head — it needs it!

Obama just spoke from the WH.
He admitted that he has No One in charge on this.
And No One accountable for the policy he dictates.
BUT he did put the door ajar about a future travel ban.
IIRC my parents spoke about being kept at Ellis island for what seemed like forever while it was made clear they were not sick, before being allowed to enter the USA…..and that was after jumping through all the hoops necessary to get in LEGALLY.
At least two, possibly three Caribbean nations have already instituted travel bans.
It has no relation to getting people or supplies in and out of West Africa.

@Skookum: Did you mean President Obola’s petri dish that has been overflowing for almost 6 years. He must be enjoying see his hated citizens scramble to hold him accountable.

By the way, I am glad that that our two nurses are part of the vaunted liberal 1% (NOT!!!!!!!!!!).

@Marine72:

By the way, I am glad that that our two nurses are part of the vaunted liberal 1% (NOT!!!!!!!!!!).

I would hold off on that — they may or may not be supportive of the creep in chief and ObamaCare — I’d hold off until more is known — if either or both come out AFTER being “CURED” – praising the dam US demo-commie-cRAT government — then you are probably correct —

My own guess is that nurse #1 was just innocently involved — nurse @#2 was either clearly involved (anybody check yet to see if she was a Mooslime or convert?) as a suicide spreader/martyr? (an update to the phony fainters during the 2008 obie campaign)– or AT BEST – an INCOMPETENT medical ‘Professional’– so far almost no real details have been released re her! Why did #1 go right into the medical system while #2 was galavanting over the Midwest than diving right into the hospital on her return? Did her temperature go from 99.4 or whatever to 100.5+ or whatever the BS ‘threshold’ is – just during the return flight? Did nurse #2 check in with CDC before she got on the flight back to TX?

Since she was supposedly in Ohio to help set up her wedding plans — what type and LEVEL of contact did she have with her ‘fiance’? is/was there a fiancé? If so did she advise the fiancé and his and her families that she had been involved with treating the deceased Ebola patient and that she had been AND WAS running a temperature ? huh? – for 6 days or so by the time she left Ohio? again did she call CDC before getting on the plane in Ohio? — did she seek any medical help / advice during her stay in Ohio or prior to leaving?

Inquiring minds had better start PUSHING for these answers!

And Dammed hard!

“I want the American people to know….. that our experts…..at the CDC …..and across our government…..”

I made a comment here not long ago about the “arrogance” of Obama and those in and around Washington, DC…that their ‘Arrogance’ was going to come back to bite them….that ‘Arrogance’ has a way of doing that…and so it has.

Even though Obama is trying his best…Ebola will not ‘bend to his will’ to his ideology – Obama though he could ‘Control’ a virus…. he is finding that it is fast becoming out of control….THAT is his arrogance.

“LIES” and “Liars” also have a way of exposing themselves…

The Question is – when are the American people going to wake up???

#9 I was thinking the SAME THING about Obamacare!

@FAITH7: Same here!

Reagan let 20,000 die from AIDS before acknowledging it existed. Tell me again how Obama’s immediate response to 3 ebola case has been inadequate?

The second nurse flew on two flights and was in contact with at least two airports, both of them twice. If she was infectious, she was in contact with possibly hundreds of people in Ohio. Any of those people who have contracted the disease, will have exposed many more, this is how the disease increases the infection exponentially. We are still being bombarded with potential infected people from West Africa on a daily basis, so the possibility of contamination increases with each day. The useful idiots are willing to swear by Obama’s promises of everything is ok; at least until they get the flu symptoms. The Ebola flu will kill about 70%, how many of you expect to get medical care after the disease gets started?

If we begin to ask the basics of organic chemistry and micro biology of our morons in congress and the morons in the media, their total ignorance on the subject will be revealed. These are the people we are relying on to protect us from a killer virus that is quickly becoming a pandemic. It’s time to demand a level of competency from these cretins. Learn the basics and ask your politicians if they even understand the simplest precepts of biology, if they have no idea of what you are talking about, ask them how in the hell do they expect to know enough to protect us from Ebola.

This is bullshit; Obama wants to make some kind of political points and he knows nothing about disease or viruses. Let his useful idiots die of Ebola, the rest of us don’t need to die of some African disease because Obama wants to look like a hero to the cesspools of the Third World.

@This+one:

Reagan let 20,000 die from AIDS before acknowledging it existed.

Hey — Earth to MEATHEAD — let’s get out the exact specific stats re where and when these 20,000 died relative to when any meaningful response — roll it on out here buddie! — Reagan had an ‘ell of a lot more important things to deal with than a bunch of monkey and butt effers getting some disease – AMONG themselves — and do not give me the old blood transfusion BS — the scum sucker dopers were known for contributing blood for bucks —

Aids was brand new – no one knew much about it — Ebola has been around for at least 30 years – this importation has been on purpose!

@This+one:
Right now, under Obama, 2% of the country are homosexual.
But 53% of all HIV/AIDS is in the ”gay” community.
Whose fault is that?
I used to know plenty of men with AIDS when I was in LB, CA.
They bragged about the sheer numbers of partners they used to have when they had their looks.
They bragged about their famous closeted partners, too.
Recall how long rock Hudson was ”in the closet?”
It was no secret in the gay community where it was a status symbol to have had sex with him.
I wonder how many men he, alone, infected before he died of AIDS?
You cannot lay blame on a president when it was homosexual actions that kept spreading that disease….along with all the other STDs.
According to the CDC there are 110 MILLION cases of STDs now.

There’s no excuse for bringing ebola here.
How many doctors does Obama listen to?
Haven’t they all taken the Hippocratic Oath?
His first lesson to all students is also taught to this day:
All patients LIE.

Ebola is here because of lies by infected and exposed people.
Each person with ebola usually spreads it to two others before dying.
So far, that rule is holding the same in USA as in Africa.

Some Americans will have a built-in immunity to Ebola because of resistance properties within their RNA. Maybe you will be one of the lucky ones; although, the double strand RNA replicating property of Ebola lacks the proof reading qualities of viruses that rely on DNA for replication, and the virus mutates much faster.

It also has the ability to jump to another species. Increasing the possibility of infection among our domestic livestock. The Ebola virus is a marvel of nature, a deadly marvel.

Could it be that obama is afraid that someone at a fundraiser has had contact with someone with ebola, and he is afraid of getting it at a fundraiser? He doesn’t even end a golf game because of a beheading. He went to a fundraise the next morning after Benghazi. I’m sure he got a good night’s sleep before it. The only reason I can see for obama not attending fundraisers is fear for himself.

@This+one:

Reagan let 20,000 die from AIDS before acknowledging it existed. Tell me again how Obama’s immediate response to 3 ebola case has been inadequate?

As soon as AIDS was identified as a communicable disease, the means to prevent its communication among the gay community was known and promoted. The gay community opted to refuse to burden themselves with “safe sex” practices preferring to instead just continue their life style and put all their faith and future in the government inventing a pill they could take to make all their risks and problems go away. The rest is history.

Naturally, you would want to blame someone else. However, the culprit was, as it usually is, personal irresponsibility.

@John:

Oh my god we are all gonna die !

Well, under this administration, some will for sure. The reason is that this administration values open borders more than they do the health and security of tax paying citizens. Further, totally ignorant and ideology-centric attitudes and opinions such as yours assures those who NEED to take this seriously won’t because they are told it is impossible to transmit or receive the disease so why bother altering their selfish lifestyles?

I live a short distance from Dallas. I work at Love Field. I have a wife, two daughters and 7 grandchildren, 6 of them in public schools. It is a concern for me. Since I have moved about for the past 6 years with my eyes open, I have absolutely NO faith in this administration doing what is necessary to keep the public safe. After all, it was their policies that welcomed Thomas Duncan into our midst and, to date, refuses to admit that was a fatal mistake. You on the left, as you do in absolutely EVERY situation, do not regard anything as serious until it affects YOU personally. While you should have learned the lesson of the fallacy of that mindset, I hope you are not taught that lesson in this situation. For, you leaning your lesson here would certainly be a tough lesson learned by many others as well.

@Smorgasbord:

The only reason I can see for obama not attending fundraisers is fear for himself.

There is at least one other — some of the contributors are probably starting to get cold feet about being associated with this creep and the demo COMMMUNIST party in general — then if some of the contributors have anything to do with companies that supply the high level hazmat and protective gear and disinfecting chems and equipment or specialize in decontaminating apt buildings, hospitals, office buildings, sports stadiums, airplanes, cruise ships — etc etc etc all these companies must be lined up 10 deep after the contracts — wonder how many are Chinese?

Making muti – thousand dollar contributions to the demo-COMMUNISTS right now — “might not look so good!” Capiche? Know what I am saying?

@Bill:

You on the left, as you do in absolutely EVERY situation, do not regard anything as serious until it affects YOU personally.

Then they blame someone or something else!

@Skookum:

I hate to tell you but they used pigglets as test animals From Pigs to Monkeys, Ebola Goes Airborne The pigs recovered….

The also use Guinea pigs, rats and mice. Fruit bats are considered a natural reservoir of the disease.

Now think of the garbage in the dumpster before Duncan got hospitalized….

@Gail+Combs: Thank you, a virus cannot replicate, unless it has a host. The real action happens at the the cellular level. If the proteins of the Ebola virus can attach proteins to the membrane of a host cell, it will instruct the host cell’s RNA to begin replication. The host cells can recognize the assault and develop defenses to prevent the attachment in the future, but the Ebola cell is quick to meet these defenses and change tactics. Of course, the ability to jump from one species to another gives the virus cells a greater capacity to evolve, and being able to recognize the host cell’s defenses gives the Ebola virus an almost limitless ability to mutate and evolve very quickly.

To paraphrase the words of the viral chicken lover, “Ebola just wants to live”. Unfortunately, a virus needs a host to survive and replicate, and in the case of Ebola, it usually kills the host.

@Gail+Combs:

The also use Guinea pigs, rats and mice. Fruit bats are considered a natural reservoir of the disease.

Doesn’t Texas have a very high population of bats?

@Budvarakbar:
Budvarakbar, The known reservoir is fruit bats. Mexico and South America has Fruit bats…

The problem with Ebola is it can survive outside a body for several days.

Ebola virus

PATHOGEN SAFETY DATA SHEET – INFECTIOUS SUBSTANCES

SECTION I – INFECTIOUS AGENT

NAME: Ebola virus

….a single outbreak in Uganda, has a genome with 30% variance from the other strains. It is most closely related to the Côte d’Ivoire ebolavirus strain; however, it has been found to be more virulent as 37 fatal infections were recorded.

EPIDEMIOLOGY: Occurs mainly in areas surrounding rain forests in central Africa (6) with the exception of Reston which occurs in the Phillipines (9). No predispositions to infection have been identified among infected victims; however, the 20 – 30-year-old age group seems to be particularly susceptible…

HOST RANGE: Humans, various monkey species, chimpanzees, gorillas, baboons, and duikers (1-3, 15, 16, 18, 21-23). The Ebola virus genome was recently discovered in two species of rodents and one species of shrew living in forest border areas, raising the possibility that these animals may be intermediary hosts (24). Other studies of the virus have been done using guinea pig models (25). A survey of small vertebrates captured during the 2001 and 2003 outbreaks in Gabon found evidence of asymptomatic [without symptoms] infection in three species of fruit bat (Hypsignathus monstrosus, Epomops franqueti, and Myonycteris torquata) (26).

INFECTIOUS DOSE: 1 – 10 aerosolized organisms are sufficient to cause infection in humans (21).

MODE OF TRANSMISSION: In an outbreak, it is hypothesized that the first patient becomes infected as a result of contact with an infected animal (15). Person-to-person transmission occurs via close personal contact with an infected individual or their body fluids during the late stages of infection or after death (1, 2, 15, 27). Nosocomial infections can occur through contact with infected body fluids due to the reuse of unsterilized syringes, needles, or other medical equipment contaminated with these fluids (1, 2). Humans may be infected by handling sick or dead non-human primates and are also at risk when handling the bodies of deceased humans in preparation for funerals, suggesting possible transmission through aerosol droplets (2, 6, 28). In the laboratory, infection through small-particle aerosols has been demonstrated in primates, and airborne spread among humans is strongly suspected, although it has not yet been conclusively demonstrated (1, 6, 13). The importance of this route of transmission is not clear. Poor hygienic conditions can aid the spread of the virus (6).

INCUBATION PERIOD: Two to 21 days, more often 4 – 9 days (1, 13, 14).

COMMUNICABILITY: Communicable as long as blood, secretions, organs, or semen contain the virus.Ebola virus has been isolated from semen 61 days after the onset of illness, and transmission through semen has occurred 7 weeks after clinical recovery (1, 2).

RESERVOIR: The natural reservoir of Ebola is unknown (1, 2). Antibodies to the virus have been found in the serum of domestic guinea pigs, with no relation to human transmission (29). The virus can be replicated in some bat species native to the area where the virus is found, thus certain bat species may prove to be the natural hosts (26).

ZOONOSIS: Probably transmitted from animals (non-human primates and/or bats) (2, 15, 26).

SURVIVAL OUTSIDE HOST: The virus can survive in liquid or dried material for a number of days (23). Infectivity is found to be stable at room temperature or at 4°C for several days, and indefinitely stable at -70°C (6, 20).

It is useful to note that the Marburg virus is morphologically indistinguishable from the Ebola virus, and laboratory surveillance of Ebola is extremely hazardous and should be performed in a Containment Level 4 facility (1, 2, 12, 35). [CDC is say to use contaiment level one and just now upped it to two!]

SOURCES/SPECIMENS: Blood, serum, urine, respiratory and throat secretions, semen, and organs or their homogenates from human or animal hosts (1, 2, 35). Human or animal hosts, including non-human primates, may represent a further source of infection (35).

PRIMARY HAZARDS: Accidental parenteral inoculation, respiratory exposure to infectious aerosols and droplets, and/or direct contact with broken skin or mucous membranes (35).

SPECIAL HAZARDS: Work with, or exposure to, infected non-human primates, rodents, or their carcasses represents a risk of human infection (35)….

Obama stayed home from fundraising in NJ so he could ”concentrate” on finding an ebola czar.
So, who does he pick?
Solyndra $535 million loan guaranteer, Ron Klain.
A political hack.
Only 53 years old, no medical training whatsoever.
Obama’s choice as replacement for White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel.
A past Chief of Staff for Al gore and Joe Biden.
Married to Monica Medina, currently the Principal Deputy Undersecretary for Oceans and Atmosphere of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.
Before joining NOAA, she was appointed by Janet Reno to serve as Deputy Associate Attorney General at the U.S. Department of Justice, with oversight of the Environment Division.

In other words, why him?
When Obama was a brand new president he gave us the answer: If it comes down to a choice I go with the better basketball player.
Maybe nowadays (since he got his lip slit open in a game) he goes with the better ”golfer.” (Or whatever it is he and his buddies do during all those hours.)

I should add there is a discussion by researchers about “Airborne” that is propelled droplet-borne in this article

What we are not afraid to say about Ebola virus

What is interesting is this remark in comments:

Daniel King
This particular strain has behaved differently to previous outbreaks in a few ways, such as getting established in three different countries at once. Normally it didn’t get as high even in one country, let alone in three at once. I’m sure you can’t put that ALL down to mismanagement.

The amount of “epidemiological evidence” available in the CURRENT outbreak exceeds the sum of all previous outbreaks since 1976, by more than a factor of 2 at the last count. It’s just not clear anyone has measured the properties you are describing for THIS outbreak….

@Nanny+G:

A political hack.
Only 53 years old, no medical training whatsoever.

Not only no medical experience but another frigg’n lawyer!

A preview of the upcoming ObamaCare utopia!

Excellent expose of the degree of interbred corruption in WA DC!

@Nanny G #24:
“Right now, under Obama, 2% of the country are homosexual.”

First of all, the proportion of homosexuals in America has remained roughly the same for as long as statistics have been collected. Percentages reported have ranged between 1.5% and 10%, depending upon who asked the questions and what the questions were. Conservatives tend to underestimate the proportion to make the point that the total number of gays is not significant, and liberals tend to overestimate the proportion because more gays mean more liberals.

“Under Obama”??? Are you suggesting that Obama has something to do with the number of people who are homosexual?

“But 53% of all HIV/AIDS is in the ”gay” community.”

That is true. However, if you look at your own statistics and the total number of people who currently have HIV/AIDS, (1.1 million), you can get a number of about 580,000 gays having it.
At your conservative 2% of our 330 million population, gays total 6.6 million.
That means that over 91% of all gays are NOT infected. This number should be kept in mind when the temptation to blame the entire population of gays for the faults of less than one tenth of their number arises.

Certainly about half of all HIV/AIDS has been caused by homosexual promiscuity. The remainder of cases are accounted for by heterosexual promiscuity and intravenous drug use. The take-away from these statistics is that promiscuity is the number one vector for spreading the infection. Yes, there were and still are high numbers of promiscuous gays, and they largely account for the disproportionate prevalence of HIV/AIDS in the gay community.

“Whose fault is that”?

The simple answer is that HIV/AIDS is the fault of promiscuous gays (first) and promiscuous heterosexuals (second) and intravenous drug users (third).

A bit more complex answer might include the fact that 1 in 4 of new cases are in young people ages 13-24, indicating that either ignorance or disregard for the value of one’s own life plays a role.

Another cause might be the long-standing cultural marginalization of homosexuals by the rest of society, producing an abnormally low interest in following a conventional career path and living a long and productive life. The low reproductive rate of homosexuals likely contributes to this indifference to longevity.

Finally, self-destructive behavior may be intellectually consistent with the biological dead end that each homosexual personally grapples with, and this could be relevant regardless of whether you think that homosexuality is a genetic or environmental abnormality, or that it is simply a mental illness, or that it is nothing but a personal choice.

But if you are fixated on the importance of assigning “blame,” please make sure that your aim is accurate, and that you do not skewer the innocent by accident.

@Bill #27:
“Naturally, you would want to blame someone else. However, the culprit was, as it usually is, personal irresponsibility.”

This is completely true regarding HIV/AIDS. But the point that “This One” was making was that the BLAME that is being heaped on Obama is unwarranted. His point is relevant:

“Reagan let 20,000 die from AIDS before acknowledging it existed. Tell me again how Obama’s immediate response to 3 ebola case has been inadequate?”

Reagan’s refusal to address HIV/AIDS materially contributed to delaying and reducing funding for both research for a cure and for other ways to stop the spread of the disease. Reagan refused to raise the alarm. Obama has made no similar mistake.

@George+Wells: I wasn’t ”blaming” Obama for however many homosexuals are out there these days, simply that those totals were compiled during this president’s tenure.
You make some interesting points:

Another cause might be the long-standing cultural marginalization of homosexuals by the rest of society, producing an abnormally low interest in following a conventional career path and living a long and productive life. The low reproductive rate of homosexuals likely contributes to this indifference to longevity.

Finally, self-destructive behavior may be intellectually consistent with the biological dead end that each homosexual personally grapples with, and this could be relevant regardless of whether you think that homosexuality is a genetic or environmental abnormality, or that it is simply a mental illness, or that it is nothing but a personal choice.

This certainly gibes with some of the near-dying conversations I’ve had with AIDS patients during their end-stages.
(I had actually mistaken this for them trying to make lemonade out of the lemons they had.)
But I think you might be right as I had heard exactly those thoughts from multiple AIDS victims.
(“I never wanted to live to an old age,” was one quote I recall exactly.)

I used to know a gay man I thought bucked this idea.
He married (legal in CA at the 1st opportunity).
He wanted to be a millionaire.
He acted in accordance to getting there, too.
He bought investment properties.
But the housing bust ruined him financially.
And, after that he gave up on everything.
His health suffered.
He became a drug abuser.
He ran up against law enforcement in bad ways.
He got sickly.
All before the age of 50.

@Bill #28:
“I have absolutely NO faith in this administration doing what is necessary to keep the public safe.”

Funny, coming from someone who wants to shrink government.
I thought that you wanted to leave everything to the states?
Why don’t you ask your Republican Representatives to press for a Ebola Voucher for the state of Texas so that it can deal with the epidemic as it sees fit?
I bet Rick Perry has some great ideas about… what was that again? Oops!

@Nanny G #40:

“This certainly gibes with some of the near-dying conversations I’ve had with AIDS patients during their end-stages.

(“I never wanted to live to an old age,” was one quote I recall exactly.)

Fortunately, I didn’t ever find myself in that rut. There were always plenty of things that interested me – things that I wanted to do – so I kept busy. I ALSO met Paul 40 years ago, we married at the first opportunity, and it’s now legal in Virginia, too. That relationship undoubtedly added at least ten years to my life.

Pete has mentioned the low longevity figures for gay people, and marriage equality will undoubtedly improve them.

@Gail+Combs: Great find! I will read it in depth tonight.

@George+Wells:

Obama has made no similar mistake.

Saudi Arabia closed access to Hajj pilgrims from the three West African countries with the Ebola problems on August 5, 2014 >> over 10 weeks ago! What has the Chicago bath house messiah done to protect our borders within the last 10 weeks???

Oh – wait – I get it! just the typical liberal tactic of — hey! – He has not made a mistake! — how could he have made a mistake when he has not done a damned thing for 10 weeks?

@Budvarakbar #44:

The specific comment was clearly addressing Obama’s immediate reaction to the Ebola epidemic in Contrast to Reagan’s decision to do nothing – to not even MENTION HIV/AIDS for years – while tens of thousands of people died from the disease.

But thank you for attempting to deflect this from a rational discussion of Ebola and turn it into a cry-fest over a president that you never wanted in the first place. Two more years, and then you can crank up the tear spigots again when Hillary gets in. Or maybe by then Obama will have turned over the keys of the city to ISIS, right?

@George+Wells: When HIV/AIDS first broke out (and was associated with homosexual acts by men) my mother (God rest her soul) was head of Public Health for Los Angeles County.
She and medical experts all wanted to quarantine any person who had symptoms of this disorder.
They wanted to run down all the sex partners, too.
And guess what?
They were slammed by the only recently ”liberated” gay community.

Could HIV/AIDS been contained if this had been done right from the start?
We’ll never know because gays….NOT Ronald Reagan…..insisted on their ”rights.”

If you want to blame anyone for a death from AIDS blame early political correctness and ”gay power.”

And, lest we forget, loads of people died from HIV-tainted blood in those early days.
Lots of women who were summarily given a pint of blood simply because they’d given birth.

@Nanny G #46:

One of the problems that was – and is – encountered by HIV infection is that it takes a LONG time for symptoms to present. A person infected with HIV is contagious LONG before symptoms appear. That’s because HIV is simply a viral infection that does not – by itself – cause any noticeable symptoms. Only when one or more of a number of opportunistic infections like Kaposi’s Sarcoma, Mycobacterium avium complex (MAC), cytomegalovirus (CMV) and hepatitis C. Fungi (that cause thrush (candidiasis)), cryptococcal meningitis, pneumocystis carinii pneumonia (PCP), histoplasmosis, cryptosporidiosis and toxoplasmosis become established can a diagnosis of AIDS be conclusively made.

Note that without actual symptoms, the only way to confirm HIV/AIDS is to do bloodwork. And the bloodwork would have to be repeated constantly. After initial infection, even bloodwork doesn’t reveal infection for a number of weeks. It Ebola was as slow and deliberate as HIV is at establishing itself in infected hosts, we’d ALL be dead by now.

@Nanny+G:

Please, ignore George. He says this:

But thank you for attempting to deflect this from a rational discussion of Ebola and turn it into a cry-fest over a president that you never wanted in the first place.

But what did George do? He turned a rational discussion of Ebola into another hijacked thread about his favorite subject, homosexuality.

Stop feeding the troll, George. He’s fat enough. He’s only here to pick up where his buddy, who wants to kill all the “breeders”, a term George has used, left off.

Says the person who has nothing at all to offer on the subject.
LOL.

@George+Wells:

But the point that “This One” was making was that the BLAME that is being heaped on Obama is unwarranted.

No, it isn’t unwarranted and it certainly is not unprecedented. Remember Abu Ghraib? Bush was blamed for that, as well as Katrina (when, in fact, the Governor of Louisiana and the Mayor of New Orleans had failed to take the action recommended to prevent disaster of that scope). As to actual responsibility, Obama and Obama alone could have instituted the travel ban that would have kept THIS case of Ebola out of the United States. It is no mere partisan stretch to say Obama is responsible for Duncan being here and all the infections that are derived from his presence. A travel ban is a common sense logical step and will eventually be implemented showing, like all the delays, waivers and illegal changes to Obamacare have, that the “critics” (aka, the voices Obama SHOULD be listening too) were the voices of reason.
