Ever notice how some things seize Barack Obama emotionally more than others? Notice how Obama listens to some more than others?
Obama’s speech yesterday was seen by some as a “surrender.”
“By making such a point about ‘no ground troops,’ the President did two very bad things. First, he reduced the enemy’s uncertainty about our intentions. Second, he gave a global impression that he needed to promise ‘no ground troops’ to the American people because he thinks that otherwise his political position is so weak that he couldn’t get support for an air war. This is a bad mistake: it suggests to our enemies that our resolve is shaky. Even and especially if that is true, we don’t want to tell them this.”
Thus far, Obama has promised no ground troops and has no coalition and no place from which to conduct air strikes. But Obama made a point of emphasizing something important to him. He tried to sell America with the thought that the Islamic State In the Levant is not “Islamic.”
Now let’s make two things clear: ISIL is not “Islamic.” No religion condones the killing of innocents. And the vast majority of ISIL’s victims have been Muslim. And ISIL is certainly not a state. It was formerly al Qaeda’s affiliate in Iraq, and has taken advantage of sectarian strife and Syria’s civil war to gain territory on both sides of the Iraq-Syrian border. It is recognized by no government, nor by the people it subjugates. ISIL is a terrorist organization, pure and simple. And it has no vision other than the slaughter of all who stand in its way.
Reaction to Obama’s sales pitch was quick and strong:
Ron Christie @Ron_Christie
#ISIS isn’t Islamic? What kindergartner briefs the President on terrorism?
Erick Brockway @erickbrockway
Obama: “ISIL is not Islamic” Hello? THIS ISIL? “Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant”
[email protected]: ISIL is not Islamic and Lois Lerner and the IRS is not corrupt.
Obama is such a freaking liar.
In the end, though, neither U.S. presidents nor Islamist apologists fool people. Anyone with eyes and ears realizes that the Islamic State, like the Taliban and al-Qaeda before it, is 100 percent Islamic. And most Westerners, as indicated by detailed polling in Europe, do have eyes and ears. Over time, they are increasingly relying on common sense to conclude that the group is indeed profoundly Islamic.
It turns out that in making his assertions Obama was once again bowing to someone. CAIR.
The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) wants President Obama in his speech on ISIS Wednesday night to reject the jihadists’ “misappro-priation of Islamic terms and concepts,” and to recognize that the terrorist group was created by “the lack of freedom and justice in the region.”
CAIR leaders plan to join other local and national Muslim leaders in a Capitol Hill viewing of Obama’s prime-time address to the nation on a strategy to counter the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS/ISIL) threat.
CAIR’s national executive director Nihad Awad made it clear what Muslims in the U.S. will be looking out for in the speech.
Over at Powerline, Scott Johnson has a question or two for “Imam Obama”
My question: Is the Islamic Republic of Iran (as Obama invariably calls it) Islamic? It is a designated state sponsor of terror — designated by the United States. It is also the patron of designated terrorist organizations — designated by the United States. These designated terrorist organizations supported by the Islamic Republic of Iran are also avowedly Islamic.
Is the Islamic Republic of Iran Islamic? Is its support of terrorism Islamic? Do the mullahs who run the show misunderstand the religion? President Obama, wise in all things, help us understand.
Perhaps the more pertinent question is why President Obama continues his hot pursuit of the alignment of the United States with the Islamic Republic of Iran, as though we have strategic interests in common and can be best friends.
“There’s also something both patronizing and ridiculous for a Western Christian to be telling the Muslim world what exactly their religion is about, particularly a religion with a 1400 year distinguished history… I didn’t know Obama was an Islamic scholar, but that’s probably what he does when it’s raining and he can’t be playing golf.”
Barack Obama spares no effort defending certain social issues and certain religions.
In 2007 Obama recited the Muslim Call to Prayer “with a first-class [Arabic] accent” and described the call to prayer as “one of the prettiest sounds on Earth at sunset.”
