The Madness Of The Nanny State

Loading

So Piers Morgan, one of the new faces of the leftist ideology, says we all need nannying…for our own good:

I think people need the nanny state occasionally, particularly on issues like smoking, drinking, guzzling sodas that are too big for them, you know, eating 16 Big Macs a day, whatever it may be, the reality is we all need a bit of nannying about that. That’s why so many people are on diets. That’s a form of nanny state.

He’s agreeing with another leftist, New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg, who believes it is government’s role to control a person’s life via his diet.

But once government pass laws that force people to eat a certain way in the name of “it’s for your own good” or “it’s for the good of society” at what point does it stop? Forced good intentions are what brought us communism and fascism.

Hitler got rid of unemployment after all. Stalin took all those ill-gotten gains made on the backs of the “worker” by the greedy capitalists and gave back to the people after all.

Good intentions?

Yes…the above examples are a bit extreme but where does this “forced good intentions” stop?

Government already believes they can spend the money we earn better then we can spend it ourselves. In fact they are now proposing to confiscate another trillion dollars from our paychecks because hey…we would just spend it on sugary drinks or some such nonsense. Let nanny Obama decide where to spend that.

I prefer to have the freedom to eat 15 big macs if I so choose. But hey, if Piers and Bloomy insist on some kind of dictator telling me what I can eat or say then it better be a dictator that will force MY views onto everyone else.

That’s the way it works right?

“Of all tyrannies, a tyranny exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It may be better to
live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron’s cruelty may sometimes
sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will
torment us without end, for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.”

It’s only madness if you don’t think that growing dependence is the objective.

The centerpiece of the pro nanny state argument stands on cost of outcome when human beings are allowed by the state to be and to act like human beings – “when you get fat, you’ll be sick and we’ll have to pay for your hospitalization or medical bills, particularly now that we have Obamacare. So NOW we will control what you do, what you eat, where you travel to, how you travel, what you wear, and who you associate with. We have the right because the government knows better and the government pays.

Much of human behaviour is self-destructive, and much of what we did only one generation ago or 200 years ago, we have discovered to have been to our detriment. Who knew that lead in make-up could kill you? Who knew that when you chased that little ball of mercury around a dish in your high school science class with your fingers, you were exposing yourself to hell-on-a-dish? Now we know, and as knowledge broadens, our behaviour adjust. Education and Knowledge are wonderful things.

Instead of sucking society down the rabbit hole of dictatorial socialism, the sanctimonious geniuses promoting the nanny state, should instead focus on radically improving the state of education. The whole of the educational system must be revamped, rethought and restructured.

I am definitely not in favor of the nanny state, no. Why, I remember not too long ago the nanny state was very interested right down to whom I smooched and whether I should be allowed to have a cocktail in peace — mostly outlawing both practices. Oh yes, the nanny state, when in full swing, is not pretty. My relatives in Prague during the Soviet times were none to please with their version, either. Meanwhile, next time I’m in NYC I shall have to 16 oz sugary drinks, so that I don’t run afoul of the absurd law against one 32 oz drink. They can never tell I did it, I’m as thin as a rail.

The only complaint I have with those who eat and drink too much unhealthy food, is that I am subsidizing their medial costs. I pay the same rate as they do, but won’t get back near the medical costs they will.

I would like to see the insurance companies allowed to charge by a person’s weight. The more overweight you are, the more expensive your medical expenses are. I have known, and still know of some people who take 15-20 medicines a day because of their smoking or the way they ate, or didn’t take care of themselves in other ways. To me, one of the best incentives for me to loose weight, or start eating healthy, is when the insurance company tells me I will be paying twice as much for medical insurance.

Diabetes costs the USA about 200 billion per year in healthcare related costs and lost productivity. It costs more than smoking. The US taxpayers both before and after Obamacare were on the hook for that, I would like to see that amount reduced. If that means that some people both adults and kids are going to have to buy and then carry 2 16oz drinks instead of just one, well I say that is a good deal for American taxpayers. And yeah I also think that putting kids in cars seats should be an enforceable law.

@john: I’d rather see government completely out of healthcare instead of more laws. We don’t need nanny state laws. I am not really in favor of everyday health insurance either – I’d rather see us be able to purchase catastrophic healthcare and pay our daily costs alone. Once again, the responsibility ought to lie with the individual.

Yet another case of my vantage point 100% aligning with those of the Conservative right. But, when they see the light, when they can state so clearly why the state needs to stay the hell out of its citizens private affairs, it seems something (religious ideology mostly) blinds them to the simple universal application of this principle…

But once government pass laws that force people to eat a certain way in the name of “it’s for your own good” or “it’s for the good of society” at what point does it stop? Forced good intentions are what brought us communism and fascism.

But once government pass laws that prevent people from smoking pot in the name of “it’s for your own good” or “it’s for the good of society” at what point does it stop? Forced good intentions are what brought us communism and fascism.

But once government pass laws that prevent people from marrying those of the same gender in the name of “it’s for your own good” or “it’s for the good of society” at what point does it stop? Forced good intentions are what brought us communism and fascism.

But once government pass laws that prevent people from buying alcohol on the “Holy” day in the name of “it’s for your own good” or “it’s for the good of society (i.e. it’s pleasing to God)” at what point does it stop? Forced good intentions are what brought us communism and fascism.

But once government pass laws the force women to submit to invasive vaginal probing in order to get a legal medical procedure in the name of “it’s for your own good” or “it’s for the good of society” at what point does it stop? Forced good intentions are what brought us communism and fascism.

[A quick aside – on the LEGAL question of abortion, I consider it tautological that in a free society, each person owns their body. More, if ownership has any meaning, it means the state cannot legally force me to share my kidney to extend my son’s life, nor can it legally force my wife to share her uterus to extend the life of her daughter. So, on that note….]

But once government pass any laws that prevent a woman from choosing whether to allow another person (embryo/fetus/baby/child/whatever-label-you-desire) to use her body in the name of “it’s for the unborn child’s good” or “it’s for the good of society” at what point does it stop? Forced good intentions are what brought us communism and fascism.

[edited to add – knew I was leaving one off my original line of thinking]

But once government pass laws that prevent people from building Islamic mosques in locations where it permits Christian churches in the name of “it’s for the good of society” at what point does it stop? Forced good intentions are what brought us communism and fascism.

What a nitwit, or, if you will, a Britwit.

My favorite speech from the movie “Demolition Man” [bad movie, good ideas], delivered with gusto by Dennis Leary:

You see, according to Cocteau’s plan, I’m the enemy, ’cause I like to think; I like to read.

I’m into freedom of speech and freedom of choice. I’m the kind of guy who likes to sit in a greasy spoon and wonder, “Gee, should I have the T-bone steak or the jumbo rack of barbecued ribs with the side order of gravy fries?” I WANT high cholesterol. I wanna eat bacon and butter and BUCKETS of cheese, okay? I want to smoke a Cuban cigar the size of Cincinnati in the non-smoking section. I want to run through the streets naked with green Jell-o all over my body reading Playboy magazine. Why? Because I suddenly might feel the need to, Okay, pal?

The Nanny State is for people like Piers Morgan who aren’t intelligent enough to take care of themselves and need to have others tell them what to do. OK, Piers: WALK BACK TO ENGLAND. Start walking. Keep heading east. When you encounter salt water, hold onto something heavy so that you can keep walking on the bottom. The journey will end sooner than you think.

I live in a large Hispanic community. Because of personal budgetary concerns, I conduct my grocery shopping at the local Win Co. Unlike our government, I find saving a dollar on each item improves my economic bottom line.

The Hispanic culture realizes the advantage of shopping at the discount grocery as well, and since I am keen observer of human behavior, I often take an informal inventory of people’s buying habits by watching the items being placed on the belts, while waiting in line.

Unfortunately, our Hispanic citizens tend to purchase sugar based foods.

I agree, there is no need for Bloomberg type laws, but these people have an epidemic of diabetes in their community. There will be tremendous costs in the future; yet, the dietary habits will passed on through the culture, insuring the longevity of the disease and the costs to society.

Education is the key, but like Michelle’s plan to educate children about diet, it is improbable that children will influence the dietary and grocery buying habits of their mothers.

Assuming Obama Care is here forever, and when amnesty for illegal aliens is awarded, be prepared to pay a significant portion of your Obama Care premiums to cover the dietary habits of the Hispanic community.

@Skookum: Based on Kevino’s #8 it’s not just the Hispanics you gotta worry about.lol Exercise delays the aging process.

Semper Fi Happy St. Patricks Day 3/17

Have you ever not seen a diabetic that was not 50-60# overweight? The excuses for continual weight gain can be boiled down to just pain “lazy”.
What is Piers doing in this country? Isn’t he on a visa that has expired? Bloomy can not even run a city. Recent news indicates that most nyc students can not read, write, or speak english. Why has there not been an investigation into the diversion of hundreds of millions of dollors from federal school grants to private pockets-like contibutions to idiot’s reelection?

Anyone with dietary knowledge can tell you that there is a BIG difference in the consumption of sucrose, ordinary table sugar(or cane sugar) and/or sweeteners made from glucose(starchy sweeteners), and that found in a large majority of sweetened products nowadays, the high fructose corn syrup.

High fructose corn syrup, along with other high fructose sweeteners, have been found to promote the following;
-An increase in visceral fat, which is found between the layers of tissues in organs
-A lowered sensitivity to insulin, one of the first signs of diabetes
-Increased fat production in the liver
-Elevated LDL cholesterol
-Increased levels of triglycerides

People using sucrose and/or glucose sweeteners in their foods do not experience the above at nearly the rate of those who consume foods sweetened with the HFCS.

As JR says, education and knowledge are wonderful things. When one educates oneself about what is good for you and what is bad for you, and then make the necessary life changes on your own, you don’t need the nanny state to come along and tell you what you should and shouldn’t do.

Consider also that the federal government, along with some state governments, push the use of those High Fructose sweeteners made from corn, on the one hand, and then tells us that the effects we experience from them are because of the volume of consumption. Something doesn’t smell right there.

But then, the subsidizing of the farm industry is just another form of nanny statism.

Has anyone else noticed the reference to the NANNY state. I seem to recall that nannies were always women, and I don’t recall these issues being discussed in goverment until we started electing nannies to higher office.

Government used to be about running the government, not getting involved in personal issues.

Does this make me a sexist?

I will echo Kevin’s question, on nanny state regulations; Where does it stop?

The answer is, it doesn’t. It won’t. It cannot stop, because those who believe government answers are the ONLY answers cannot help themselves. Someone brings up what they believe is a problem and invariably the first statement made is, “there ought to be a law!”
-Someone says there is an epidemic of high blood pressure in our society, and the next thing you know, someone is proposing a salt ban.
-Someone says diabetes is an epidemic, and the next thing you know, the government is limiting your sugar intake.

And both of the above are knee-jerk reactions that fail to take into account the actual science behind those “epidemics”, and instead, promote some government solution to them that leads to limiting your freedoms and liberties.

Between JR and Kevin, above, the answer is there. People must be willing to learn more, about what they intake into their bodies, or surround themselves with at home, and forgo the willingness to just continue doing what they want to since government will provide the “solutions” for them.

Of course, that means that they must put themselves out there and be responsible on their own. And that is the hardest thing to get people to do.

Excuse me, I am a perpetual label reader. Most processed foods are sweetened with high fructose corn syrup, not just sugar.

Like Rich says, exercise will usually help you live a better life; however, part of my point is, with Obama Care, we pay collectively for other people’s poor life stye choices. In reality, we paid for those same life style choices with traditional health insurance as well, but the insurance companies had the option of not insuring high risk people.

Remember: corn has been used to put fat on animals before the onset of winter. If it works with animals, it works fairly well with humans as well.

Choosing not to eat high fructose corn syrup will have benefits for you, personally, but you are still going to pay for the public’s sweet tooth.

the worse thing is when a BLOOMBERG LOOSE WEIGHT,
and start to look at other bigger than him and think,
he is too fat, and why should my wife like him
he’s only a few years younger, but still too fat,
so he is the mayor he start to think of punishing all
with his laws so nobody can accuse him to be a jealous ass,
punishing is the moto of OBAMA ALSO, GIVING PAIN TO AMERICAN,
PUNISH THEM FOR REVENGE, AND BLOOMBERG CAUGHT OP WITH IT,
IT IS PART OF A DISEASE THEY WHERE BORN WITH, THERE IS NO CURE EXCEPT TO NEVER GIVE THEM POWER

@Skookum: #15

…we pay collectively for other people’s poor life stye choices.

This is why I suggested that the insurance companies should charge us by how much we weigh. If there are non-privacy issue ways to track HOW we eat, and charge accordingly, I could go along with that. I would even give up SOME of my medical info to the insurance company I am insured with, if my eating the way I should would lower my rate.

Somebody mentioned that choosing the catastrophic policy would be a good way to go. For many years I have chosen the highest deductible for any kind of insurance. I tried to eat healthy, hardly ever got sick, and I choose the highest deductible for my auto insurance. I had to replace my pickup windshield for $600, but the discount I have gotten for years for the higher deductible meant I had saved more than that amount.

by doing that you are doing the same as BLOOMBERG,

THAT IS medlling in the personal people affairs
if one is fat it’s his body, his freedom, his busyness, his upbringning, his medical condition,

it’s another entitlement you’re suppose to go without,
that’s playing in the socialist agenda, and another dangerous one attempt at freedom,
on fat people, why? to save money? you would be ready to put another in trouble,,
freedom is for all, not for one part of people, some are fat by genetic,
the government is playing the same game in all they do,
that is separate divide crush the people for every defect they can find,
they humiliate and depress the people this tolerant LAW ABIDING PEOPLE,
AND REPAT THEIR NEFARIOUS NEGATIVES WORDS, EVEN YOU IS FALLING FOR IT,
WITH THE NOTION THAT YOU PAY FOR THEM,
I would understand if you don’t want to pay for EGYPT OR LIBYA’S PROBLEM,
HELL OBAMA IS NOW TAKING IT OUT OF THE MILITARY IN A WAR ZONE TO GIVE TO THE HATERS,
IS THAT HAVING A BRAIN DEFECT YES, OR AN EVIL INTENT TO HURT AMERICAN,

The automobile insurance companies vary the customer’s insurance rates by how they drive. The more tickets, the higher the insurance, because that driver is more likely to be involved in an accident. Some medical insurance companies charge more for smokers, because the company knows that the smokers will cost them more in medical expenses.

Bees, you probably grew up with universal health care, and maybe don’t understand the concept of paying for something by how much you might cost the insurance company. Should you pay the same amount for auto insurance as someone who has had several accidents and 2-3 drunk driver convictions against them? Using your logic, every driver should pay the same rate for everything, no matter how many tickets or accident they have.

Using this idea, there is no incentive for anyone to change their habits. When the overeaters see how much they will pay for their medical insurance, that would be a good incentive for them to eat better and start exercising more, just like the driver who doesn’t want to pay higher rates, or even loose their insurance, decides they HAVE to change their driving habits.

Smorgasbord
it seem to have proliferated in what the GOVERNMENT IS GIVING WITH BOOKS OF MANY PAGES OF DOS AND DON’T OR ELSE YOU WILL PAY,
DON’T YOU THINK THE FAT PEOPLE DESERVE TO GET A LIFE WITHOUT SOME OF THE PUBLIC LOOKING AT THEM WITH THOUGHTS THEY ARE ALL OVER EATING OR OVER DRINKING OR RECKLESS
ABUSING THEIR LIVES, BECAUSE THE GOVERNMENT HAVE GIVEN THE PEOPLE THAT MINDSET,
WHICH IS WRONG, WE SEE A THIN PERSON BATELING WITH CANCER OR A HEART PROBLEM,
OR A POOR WHO CANNOT PAY FOR HIS NEEDED FOOD,
THEY ARE AS DANGEROUS DRIVERS, THEY CAN FALL ASLEEP ON THE WHEEL IF THEY DID NOT EAT,
THEIR BRAIN NOT IN ALERT MODE , OR DRUG STONE,
WHICH IS THE OTHER SIDE OF THE TARGET AS DANGEROUS, BUT TO TARGET ALL UNIFORMELY THE FAT PEOPLE WHICH ARE ONE HUMAN DIFFERENT EACH AND ALL DIFFERENT,
THE COMPANY SHOULD TARGET ON ONE AT THE TIME,,
THIS MISTAKE IS APPLIED ON THE GUN OWNERS ALSO, THEY PUT ALL IN THE SAME CATEGORY, ALONG WITH CRIMINALS, ALONG WITH THE MAFIA AND OTHER ORGANISATIONS,
THAT IS WHY ALL THOSE RESTRAINTS ARE MADE LAWS, WHEN THEY JUST HAVE TO ASK THE PEOPLE IN A POLITE MANNER NOT LIKE A BULLY WHO WAS MADE UP A LEADER, BY OTHER BULLIES
WITH BULLIES INTENT TO BULLY THE GOOD AMERICANS, WHO ARE SICK AND TIRED TO BE IMPOSED
AND STARTING TO THINK OF REPRISALS
AND WHAT ABOUT THE TSA, EVERYONE IS A CRIMINAL
AND HAS TO GO IN THE SEARCH CAGE, PUNISH BECAUSE
OF THE TERRORISTS, HELL WE DON’T EVEN KILL THE TERRORIST WE CATCH

You’re covering a wide range of subjects at once.

I forgot to mention that I don’t have a problem if the government helps those born with something that will be very expensive to treat, or if something developes later on in life.

There are different reasons some people overeat. One thing we should do is to just accept them, and treat them like any other person. Sometimes it is the ridicule that they get that makes them overeat. Let’s accept them as friends.

@Smorgasbord: @Smorgasbord: Dang if you don’t sound like one of those soft-hearted mushy libs. What happened to personal responsibility for over eating,over imbibing, distain for exercise etc? Should the govt pay for illnesses incurred due to such slovenly habits? JUST ASKIN

Smorgasbord
yes you’re right, you don’t see them too much in hospital,
funny, now that you mention it, it made me think of remembering it.

@Richard Wheeler:

Should the govt pay for illnesses incurred due to such slovenly habits?

What if it isn’t “slovenly habits” that lead to the illnesses, but simply a product of government meddling in another industry it had no business messing with?

People should look more into High Fructose Corn Syrup, how it has been able to corner such a wide market share(of all sweeteners), who the largest producer of it is, and what it actually does to the body.

@ilovebeeswarzone: I exercise every day—keeps the doctors away.

hi, another factor, and I just had the thought from FOX,
A COMMERCIAL OF LIPITOR, IT SAID THE INDIRECT NEGATIVES,
ONE IS IF YOU CONTRACT DIABETIES, or gain weight, excetera
AND I said to myself, geez, with all the medecine prescribed,
people get sick and gain weight to heal another disease, and they overlook the negatives effects
which are as bad, they end up in hospital which put them on other insuline they might not even need,
just to say that the weight gain is not necessary due to the food, but the prescription no one suspect, along with the interaction of both,
another find is some citrus are dangerous with prescription
even with pills from healt vitamines, can kill a person,
bye

@Richard Wheeler: #24

Should the govt pay for illnesses incurred due to such slovenly habits?

When you say the government, you are actually saying you and I. Your question sounds like you don’t want to pay for those who let themselves go. I don’t either. Why should people who eat properly, exercise properly, are not on much medication, if any, and live into their 90s and 100s, pay the same insurance rates as those who overeat, don’t exercise, can’t get around without the motorized chairs, have to see the doctor or go to the hospital often, are on 15, 20, 25, 30 or more pills a day, and have to use different mechanical devices?

@ilovebeeswarzone: #25
When I retired, I RETIRED, and am gaining some weight. I never did exercise like I should. Most of my jobs involved a lot of physical activity to keep my weight OK, but I did try to eat as healthy as I could. Whenever a person retires, they should keep active. My problem is that there ain’t anybody home to encourage me to exercise, and I ain’t a self motivator.

@ilovebeeswarzone: #29
Lipitor is like other drugs advertised. Some say that some side effects are drowsiness and sleeplessness. I guess that means you might get drowsy, buy it won’t let you fall asleep. I remember one drug add said you might give you suicidal tendencies when on it, or if you quit using it.

One major problem with having so many medications is that the doctors can’t keep track of all of the different medicine’s side effects, and most doctors go by what the drug salesman tells them. Doctors used to get kickbacks from drug companies. Who knows if that is still going on secretly.

Smorgasbord
but don’t talk about not paying for other,
because they will do the same for you,
is that a good motivator?
one good motivator is a dog staring at you,
A GERMAN SHEFFARD,
while you’re laying comfortably in your bed,
he is still staring, and after a while , you get it,
a thought come bright and sharp
maybe he need to go pee or more,
I MUST TAKE HIM OUT, AT ONCE OR ELSE,
THAT IS A GOOD UPLIFTER, AND ONCE OUTSIDE THE DOG DON’T MOVE,
YOU SAY, GO ON, HE HAS A GOOD LONG LEASH,
HE STARE THAT MEAN WALK WITH ME PLEASE, THEN YOU WALK AND WALK AND WALK
FASTER FASTER BOY THAT’S GOOD FOR YOUR HEART, YOU TURN BACK AND WALK HOME
AND IN FRONT OF THE DOOR, THE DOG DOES HIS BOTH THINGS,
YOU JUST HAVE TO BEND DOWN ,THAT’S GOOD FOR YOUR HEART,
AND HAPPILY PICK UP THE MESS,
AND YOU LOOK AT YOUR WATCH AND SAY IT’ 4 OCLOCK, LET’S GO EAT. OH BOY
THAT’S THE DANGEROUS PART, YOU NEED ONLY A HALF A CUP OF OATMEAL COOK IN MILK,
AND NOTHING ELSE,
BYE

@Richard Wheeler: #37
I’m looking into moving. Even in the part of Idaho I live it still gets over 90 degrees in the summer. If it gets to 80 or higher, I have to stay indoors, or air conditioned vehicles. It’s really frustrating to have an ATV and don’t dare go out during one or two months in the summer.

I’m looking to move about 200 miles north. Unfortunately, I didn’t plan my retirement like I should have, and probably won’t be able to buy a house, so I will be subject to whatever the owner of the apartment says I can and can’t do and have, otherwise, I would like to have a dog.

Those of you who are young enough, start putting as much away as you can. There isn’t going to be any Social Security, Medicare, etc., for you. I couldn’t believe how many people said that they retired at age 50, or about that age. You can live the good life while you are young, or when you retire, but few get to do both.

@Smorgasbord: #38,

“Those of you who are young enough, start putting as much away as you can. There isn’t going to be any Social Security, Medicare, etc., for you.”

This truth is too seldom broadcast. Quite obviously this wisdom comes from living life and recognizing that some realities come upon us just a little too fast, and just a little too unexpectedly.

Your truth begs a fresh article or two on the subject.

Regardless what the reprehensible policies of The Fed and banks have done to savers and their savings, your exhortation stands.

@James Raider: #39
I don’t usually like to talk off topic, but a man named Clark Howard has a radio, cable, and satellite, show about things like this. He teaches how to save, invest, deal with someone you feel has ripped you off, how to get the best deals, etc.

I have mentioned before that he said that if a 15 year old would put $2,000 a year in a Wroth IRA for 7 years, and left it there until they were 65, if the stock market does what it has averaged from the time it started until today, they would have $1,000,000 in their account. That’s just $14,000 left in a Wroth IRA.

Each time I think about this I think of all the money I paid into Social Security and Medicare. They were a Pozzi scheme from the beginning. If the government wants us to have a good retirement, all they have to do is have us put the amount we now pay into a 401(k) type account. If $14,000 can accumulate to $1,000,000, how much would I have to retire on now? Enough to let me live a good life, and have enough saved for ANY medical expenses.

I contacted all of my federal reps, who are all republican, and suggested to them that they put Social Security in a separate account, and only the ones who pay into it would get anything from it. That is the way it used to be. Each politician gave me the standard many paragraphed reply about something needing to be done. I call them the standard long-winded “I’m not going to do anything” reply.

I have become an official Idahoan, and figure on living here until dead. I like the fact that I can drive my ATV a short distance and I am in the mountains. I also like the idea that, like I have said different times, if obama does try to take over the USA by force, we are better armed than most states, and will be the last to fall, if we all fall.

One of our state politicians introduced a bill that will make all adults automatic militia members, allowing them to be armed, even if federal law bans guns, because the US Constitution says the state militia can be armed.

Smorgasbord

DAMN OBAMA

In effect, the Bloomberg nannying is what we get when we suggest that the government, any government, has the “responsibility” over our health care. JR put it correctly that now, because We, the People, expect the government to pay for our healthcare, that they now insist on controls over what We, the People, can ingest.

This is EXACTLY what conservatives were talking about when we suggested that legislation like Obamacare limits your freedoms and liberties.

And it happens whenever the federal government extends payments to We, the People, for any manner of things. The government, because they are footing the bill, take control over the thing, removing our choices on how we accomplish the thing. That is the nature of the beast, so to speak.

@ilovebeeswarzone: #44

“We, the people”, usually refers to those who want to keep their freedoms, and have only as much government as NECESSARY. I think a more proper way of saying what you mean is, “They, the people”, since they want “We, the people” to pay for the free stuff.

@Smorgasbord:

We are but one people, despite the insistence of the progressive to divide us into separate constituencies, pitting man against man, causing petty jealousies and envious attitudes to prevail in duping the people out of our freedoms and liberties.

It is best to be inclusive, in putting everyone “in the same boat”, so to speak, so that the poorer man, who dreams of making his fortune, will not submit to limitations upon that dream so as not to be able to reach the status of a Gates or Buffet.

One cannot suggest that they have the same, equal opportunity to aspire to such wealth, if the roadblocks to such wealth are emplaced that prevent such a rise to greatness for he, himself.

That is why I state, “We, the People”, with no discerning between those who vote for their shackles and those who don’t.
