Does he weep for the children he kills?

Barack Obama brushed away what appeared to be tears during his speech in Newtown CT in the aftermath of the massacre. The Washington Post slobbered all over itself slobbering over Obama:

President Obama, so often cool and unemotional, struggled to maintain his composure Friday as he addressed a nation reeling from a mass shooting at a Connecticut elementary school.

“The majority of those who died today were children — beautiful little kids between the ages of 5 and 10 years old,” Obama said partway into a four-minute statement.

Then he paused, tilting his head down and looking at his notes, for 12 long seconds. He wiped a tear from his left eye.

One imagines that is as it should be, but little attention is given to the deaths of children in theaters of war- the children who die in drone strikes. Obama’s drone strikes. Robert Greenwald wrote about that at the Huffington Post:

During my recent trip to Pakistan as part of our upcoming documentary film, Drones Exposed, I was struck most by the stories told to me by children who had experienced a U.S. drone strike firsthand. The impact of America’s drone war in the likes of Pakistan and Yemen will linger on, especially for the loved ones of the 178 children killed in those countries by U.S. drone strikes.

War Costs’ latest video (with accompanying report) brings attention to the children who have died as a result of drone strikes. The video names some of the children who perished in these strikes, and points out the obfuscation tactics of American officials who will not own up to the significant amount of civilian casualties that have occurred due to this legally- and morally-dubious policy.

In addition to the video, War Costs offers this report detailing the effects of drone strikes on children. The findings come mainly from the diligent investigative reporting of TBIJ and the groundbreaking reports on the impact of drone strikes by Stanford and New York University researchers (Living Under Drones: Death, Injury and Trauma to Civilians from US Drone Practices in Pakistan) and researchers at Columbia University (The Civilian Impact of Drones: Unexamined Costs, Unanswered Questions).

In an effort to compel answers about why these innocent civilians have died without acknowledgement or explanation from the U.S. government, War Costs is calling on the U.S. House of Representatives to debate and pass Rep. Dennis Kucinich’s bill that calls for more transparency regarding U.S. drone strike policy.

Indeed.

According to the Bureau for Investigative Journalism, 176 children in Pakistan, 24-35 children in Yemen and 1-3 children in Somalia have been killed in drone strikes.

It seems that even speaking of it ends a military career:

When the order to fire on a target arrives, Bryant paints the roof of a hut with the laser that will guide in a Hellfire missile released by the pilot beside him.

“These moments are like in slow motion,” he says to Abé.

No doubt, because on this occasion Bryant says a child walked from behind the building at the last second. Too late for him to do anything else but ask the other pilot, “Did we just kill a kid?”

From der Spiegel:

“Yeah, I guess that was a kid,” the pilot replied.

“Was that a kid?” they wrote into a chat window on the monitor.

Then, someone they didn’t know answered, someone sitting in a military command center somewhere in the world who had observed their attack. “No. That was a dog,” the person wrote.

They reviewed the scene on video. A dog on two legs?

The article follows another widely publicized story from the Marine Times about children killed by Americans on Afghan soil published just weeks ago. While obviously a tragedy for the victims and their families, Bryant describes the incredible toll taken on U.S. troops required to obey orders producing such dire results.

Let’s remember that Barack Obama has a kill list. Obama decides who dies in a drone strike.

Additionally, Barack Obama has killed three Americans thus far- and it’s fair to say that he killed them- Anwar Al Awlaki, Samir Khan and two weeks later, Awlaki’s son Abdulrahman al-Awlaki. His 16 year old son.

This is just chock a block with ironies. Americans have been put on trial for killing Afghan civilians. And as Michael Hayden remarked:

“We needed a court order to eavesdrop on him but we didn’t need a court order to kill him. Isn’t that something?”

The Obama Drone Doctrine dictates that anyone killed in a drone strike is considered guilty. That makes all those dead children guilty of something.

The question is, does Obama weep for them?

There were also 16 young people gunned down at a party Ciudad Juárez in January 2010.
The guns used were from the Fast & Furious stash Obama wanted used in Mexico to commit murders and mayhem so he could push his anti-gun agenda.
Over 1,000 people are dead from F&F guns Obama WANTED used for just this purpose.
His intent was to force stricter gun controls on law abiding Americans by this murderous ruse.
I think, under the right circumstances, Obama LIKES blood.

What did Holder say before Obama picked him for DOJ head?
“We need to do this every day of the week, and just really brainwash people into thinking about guns in a vastly different way.”
Using the deaths he and Obama caused with F&F was part of this brainwashing concept.
If it serves their purpose, BLOOD is just fine with Obama/Holder.

His eyes were dry. He practiced the ‘wipe the imaginary tears’ maneuver before he spoke. Then he performed it when the Teleprompter told him to.

What a show, only the MSM and his blind robots would believe this one. What about the thousands of childrens lives lost due to abortion?? He voted in favor of this one!!

Crocodile Tears from a Pile of Crock w/ Ears.

Lets forget Obama for a moment.Let’s put aside the 2nd Amendment issue. My question to you 3 strong Conservatives, two men and one woman.

Have any of you shed a tear?

@Richard Wheeler: Yes indeed. Even without the press present.

@Richard Wheeler: #5: The real question is have you?

As a 44 year Marine, I shed tears of frustration knowing that I and all of us are powerless to stop these kinds of senseless slaughter. Given the circumstances, this killer didn’t need guns; a good ball peen hammer (or knife) would have done just as well. No one at the school could have stopped him. His hammer wouldn’t jam, wouldn’t break, wouldn’t require a magazine change, and would have done as much if not more damage to priceless 6 year old children. The only thing a hammer would not have done well was to allow him the coward’s way out by his on suicide.

Poor dweeb. I thought Clinton had taught him how to cry. You have to quiver your lip while you sob.
Tears come from the tear ducts, which are next to the nose. Tears do not leak out from the corners of the eyes.
He never lets a crisis go to waste. He is intent on taking away our guns: house-to-house searches, Gestap0 activities, the whole Nazi brown shirt shtick.
And he is raising campaign funds from this scurrilous activity. Campaign funds for what? What is he running for now?
By the way: a Mexican beauty queen candidate was just killed by a Fast and Furious gun.
Where is the outrage?
Where is the fury?
40,000,000 million babies executed. Who cares?
It is crazy out there.

@mathman:
Great point about the tears.
When I cry (which is too often) the tears come near my nose.
Seeing the photo of that beauty queen was heartbreaking, as have been getting to know (too late) those wonderful children and their teachers/administrators.

This has been a terrible tragedy and there are no words to say how we all feel…I believe everything that O does is all scripted for him to perform like mathman said who cries from the corner of the eye…..

Amen mathman and annie.

Narcissist – Excessive preoccupation with self and lack of empathy for others. They require considerable admiration from others and find it difficult to cope with criticism.

Yea, crocodile tears for sure…

Marine to Marine I have.
Dr. J. I ‘m not surprised. You edited a great post( Unimaginable) and I know you felt the pain.of the loss of those 20 beautiful kids just a few miles from you.

Does the president also weep for the 400+ Chicago children wounded or killed in the past year? Can we see those tears at the next press conference? With an explanation of how well the Chicago gun regulations work? Please…?

You’re really thinking that the father of two young girls, and the leader of the nation, somehow wouldn’t be deeply affected by the senseless slaughter of 20 children? You don’t like the way he stiffly responds, when he’s in front of a camera and feels like he might be about to lose it?

Damn, people. Get some perspective. He’s got to be thinking about what happened every time he looks at his kids. Who wouldn’t be?

So far as collateral damage from military actions go, any president has to find a way to live with the burden of that, or become totally unable to function. Name me one damn war we’ve been involved in that hasn’t involved the deaths of innocents. There are none. If you support any of them–“righteous” war or not–you’re condoning those consequences. War always includes them. A person has got to be simple or deluded to think otherwise.

Let’s not forget Waco. Our government murdered 18 children not yet nine years old. I don’t remember any similar outrage.

As though Dr. John really cares about the children of war. As far as I can remember, I cannot recall anyone on this site—except possibly the liberals—who have shown remorse for the Afghans and Iraqis who’ve been slaughtered and displaced due to the American economic wars there—except when it serves right-wing opportunism, as in this case.

@Liberal1 (Objectivity): This isn’t about us. It’s about Obama.

Richard, more than you know.

Have you wept, thinking about these kids’ last moments? About the shitty Christmas their parents are about to have, are having?

Yeah, Sat. night I cried while trying to go to sleep, just like I did Fri. night, after reading about this for six hours. I woke Sun. morning with my eyelids stuck together. Monday morning I saw a list of pictures and names and ages, and I couldn’t even finish it. FWIW.

And there were no cameras on me.

Barky’s tears were as real as this guy’s:

You’re really thinking that the father of two young girls, and the leader of the nation, somehow wouldn’t be deeply affected by the senseless slaughter of 20 children?

See the youtube video in my post above.

Doesn’t anyone else find irony in this considering the admin’s DOJ gun running of these very same assault weapons across our own border with Mexico? (aka Fast & Furious).

@Greg:

Get some perspective.

People could say the same to you, Greg. Those people who support Obama are hardly in a position to discount the charges of “fake” or “phony”, in regards to Obama, considering they overlook the negatives associated with him, ofttimes without even realizing that they are doing so.

Remind me, though, has Obama wept over the hundreds of kids murdered in his “hometown” of Chicago even once during his Presidency? I must have missed it. Or something.

@Liberal1 (Objectivity):

Nor have I seen the same Liberal objections to Obama’s wars either. Where are the human road blocks? Code Pink? Covering your hands with blood and interrupting capitol hill proceedings? Dissent is patriotic? Human shields? Where are the daily body counts?

Supposedly, Obama’s escalation of this war was to focus on “fighting the people who actually attacked us on 9/11”. But, the Afghans did not attack us on 9/11. Nor did the Taliban. Nor did the Pakistani people. But, don’t worry, relax. I know…it’s a clever but senseless, politically motivated argument that does not take into account the context of the larger war. It was that way when you made the same/similar arguments when Bush was president. The only thing that has changed is that all this is somehow different when we have a democratic president. But, just a suggestion, I wouldn’t go sticking your foot further up your own arse by suggesting that liberal anti-war efforts under Bush were because you “cared for the children”.

Yup. It has happened to this site.

@drjohn:

This isn’t about us. It’s about Obama.

It always is with you, to the exclusion of any political or philosophical consistency. The use of drones is probably the most voiced criticism leveled at Obama by the Far Left… is that who you represent now? Or do you represent nothing more than uncritical, virulent personal hatred for Barack Obama, the output of which is Pavlovian hysteria. He goes Left, you go Right. He goes Right, you go Left.

@Tom: No, Tom. It’s the hypocrisy.

“The killing of innocent civilians is outrageous, and it’s unacceptable,”

http://abcnews.go.com/blogs/politics/2012/03/president-obama-condemns-murder-of-innocent-afghans/

Unless he does it.

I love how the far right on here are now our peaceniks. Soon they’ll be wearing beads ,smoking pot and extolling free love. Beautiful
Dr J ” Pavlovian hysteria”. More moves than The Galloping Ghost Red Grange.

Word #31 Exactly Merry Christmas

Bush derangement syndrome + Obama derangement syndrome: Two sides of the same coin.

Gun control is B.S. What do you do when someone is killed by a someone using a knife? Pass a knife control law? Right to bear arms…. the end.

I applaud obama’s continuing use of drones to kill our enemies. Usually those “innocents” killed are sypathizers, fellow particpants, or even volunteers to be human shields.
This is one of the very few things (if not the only thing) I feel he gets right.

@Hard Right:
Yes, sometimes the children are human shields, other times volunteers but all too often they are USED by heartless Taliban and al Qaeda men.
Like right now in Pakistan.

Polio is no picnic.

This week began with six polio-vaccination workers—five women and a man—being shot dead in four separate attacks in Karachi and Peshawar.
On Wednesday a seventh polio worker was shot and seriously injured in Peshawar.

Pakistan is one of only three countries in the world where the crippling and possibly fatal poliomyelitis virus remains endemic (Afghanistan and Nigeria are the other two).
All three countries have large contingents of militant Islamists.

Last summer a Pakistani Taliban leader in North Waziristan issued a decree forbidding any further vaccinations in his area.
Some people are convinced that the vaccine was created by non-Muslims to somehow weaken the physical strength and Islamic faith of Pakistan’s children.
Others claim it’s all a plot by the World Health Organization to sterilize Muslim girls.
A third rumor is that the polio vaccine is not ”halal.”
A forth is that it is a Jewish plot to weaken Islam.

Did you know that, there was a time, just about 2001, when the entire world only had 13 cases left of this horrible disease?
And now it is endemic and spreading because of crazy Muslims who care more about their ideology than their children.

THE PROBLEM IS if you kill with bombs in previous wars
you don’t stick around after you have sent the bomb,
but in this situation , OBAMA ORDER A DRONE LAUNCH,
and there are AMERICANS MILITARY NOT FAR, WHO GET KILLED,
AND HAVE BEEN NOT ALLOWED TO KILL THEIR CLOSE ENEMIES WHO DROP THEIR WEAPONS ON THE GROUND WILE THE ATTACK RAGE ON, so they have to select which ENEMY to kill,
and the drone are doing the opposite on the next country which is not claimed in war with AMERICA,
so check it up,
the ALQAEDA COME BACK TO KILL THE AMERICAN FROM PAKISTAN WHICH IS A SOVEREIGN COUNTRY,
IT WORK AGAINST THE AMERICAN MILITARY,
IF OBAMA WANT TO PLAY WITH DRONES, LET’S GET THE AMERICANS OUT GET THEM BACK TOMORROW LIKE CLINT EATSWOOD SAID,
THEN SEND THE DRONES TO FINISH THE AFGHANISTAN WAR FIRST,
AND WHEN THAT’S DONE, IF YOU STILL WANT TO PLAY, GET THE ALQAEDA WITH DRONES ONLY, AND DON’T FORGET LIBYA
WHO KILLED THE 4 HERO
BUT THE AMERICANS MILITARY MUST HAVE FIRST GOT OUT, ALL OF THEM.
AND JUST BEFORE THEY LEAVE THEY BOMB THE POPPY FIELDS, ALL OF THEM.
JUST TO LEAVE A MESSAGE, THAT THE AMERICANS WHO HAVE DIED OR BEEN CRIPPLE,
ARE BEING VINDICATED, AND DID NOT DIE IN VAIN,
PANETTA WANT TO KEEP A FEWER WARRIORS AFTER 2014, PANETTA RESIGN YOU ARE UNWORTHY OF THOSE WARRIORS, TAKE OBAMA WITH YOU.

Good point, DrJohn. The media obsesses over the deaths of American children, but the children in other countries, even American children who are supposed to be protected by our Constitution, are invisible to the national conscience. Imagine the outrage if Obama had bombed that school to kill a terrorist and then tried to say the children who were blown up were just collateral damage.
