If you think May Day is a spring festival for dancing around some pole while throwing flowers and hoping to see a fantastic creature like a unicorn, you’re in the wrong century and probably the wrong dimension.
I dunno…some of these protests look like they came straight out of “the wrong dimension…and even involve unicorns:

It’s May Day. I’m occupying my job, how about you?
The Occupiers are out wreaking havoc, breaking windows, cursing at cops, and telling everyone else not to work.
In other words: Just another day at the office. I mean encampment. Or streets. Or parents’ basement. Or whatever.
Protest organizers said they intended to show the “1 percent” what life without the “99 percent” would look like, as they encouraged workers and students to take a day off in solidarity against income inequality and “unjust” corporate practices.

In Druid times (in pre-Christian Britain) infertile ladies would wear pretty flowing gown with nothing under them.
Men who had a track record of making babies would wear long sleeve shirts, tall boots and a barrel dressed up as a swan or other animal.
The barren woman would ”ride the swan” or other animal in hopes of becoming pregnant.
On a separate note, aren’t general strikes unconstitutional in the USA?
Of course the unionized police would be of no help if they are.
The OWS movement is a communist organize and backed front.
The OWS is also being supported by the Obama Administration.
These “protests” are straight out of Marxism 101.

In much of the Middle East, for example the UAE, Dubai and the Saudi Kingdom, children are commonly worked more than 12 hour days 7 day weeks.
If they are foreign born their passports are hidden from them.

The most sobering thing about the considerable violence in Seattle and other cities is the remark yesterday from anarchist anthropologist and Occupy theorist David Graeber:
They’re still “building important alliances” and radicalizing people, he says. When they stop pulling back from “big” civil disobedience, watch out.

Actually, you can thank Henry Ford, who opposed unions. That’s right Libby1, you can thank a corporation for 8 hour days, doubling pay to $5 a day, and even for weekends. On May Day an Occupy protester in LA smashed a drum into the head of a female LAPD officer.
A fellow occupier shot a video of it and said, “hitting someone, especially a small woman, in the back of the head with something like a snare drum is an especially needless act of violence. I repudiate it.”
He placed the video online.
Breitbart posted it and got it seen over 200,000 times.
Another OWSer saw it and turned in his fellow OWSer, a man named Brian Mendoza.
On this we should agree, left AND right: this type of violence is not to be condoned.

@Nan G: That’s encouraging. On a less dramatic but also encouraging note, I saw an article on the vandalism in San Francisco on May Day–in the S.F. Chronicle, I think–which contained several quotes from demonstrators who were stunned and horrified by the violence of some of their fellow demonstrators. I felt very sad for them–they were clearly idealistic, peaceful souls wanting to change the world and not knowing how, who were emotionally blindsided by seeing fellow demonstrators vandalize other people’s shops, cars, etc.
I’ve had discussions before about these [ows] people and the conclusion we came up with is – these young people have been so indoctrinated into a belief system, and they have been “coddled” all their young [school] life.
Now, when they are finished with the liberal school system, and finished with the liberal professors in college [better yet, the professors are finished with them – next?], and their ” indoctrinators” have filled their heads with their own bullshit, fantasy, alternate reality and socialist/communist mentality of the world ….and leaving out much of ‘what really counts’….
…these young people then go out into the “real world”…
AND, the ‘real world’ doesn’t give a flying f how much you were coddled for the last 20 years and then, “the real reality” hits them square in the face….the real world has a host of challenges they were/are not prepared for… they then find out they have been fed bull shit for the last 20 years…
So, now instead of the new reality ‘ allowing them’ to shlep off small and large failure(s) they must face these failures and road blocks head on….problem is they probably don’t know how…so now in their frustration they ‘act out’…. much like a small child…many many small children…

Unions here in the U.S. have outlived their usefulness and serve only to institutionalize mediocrity and undermine the exceptional qualities of the individual American. Since the1930’s they have been the tool of choice that Communists use to infect our society with their failed philosophy. Seniority and tenure have poisoned our educational system and given protected status to educators who would otherwise be replaced by individuals selected by virtue of their merit, personal mastery of and excellence in their craft. Union driven wage and benefit packages provide their mediocre laborers with plans that become unsustainable and destroy profitability against foreign competitors. As we have seen, the left draws upon unions to provide organized and suitably thuggish protestors to use against elected officials and businesses who resist or try to rein in the toxic practices of organized labor. Unions run counter to every positive quality in America’s collective being. We were not put here by our creator to be examples of mediocrity and undeserved
