Obama: Hey, maybe I’m not God after all [Reader Post]

By 42 Comments 1,154 views

In June of 2008 Barack Obama hinted that we had the opportunity to vote not simply for a President, but for a Messiah:

…We will be able to look back and tell our children that this was the moment when we began to provide care for the sick and good jobs to the jobless; this was the moment when the rise of the oceans began to slow and our planet began to heal; this was the moment when we ended a war and secured our nation and restored our image as the last, best hope on earth.

It took a year, but Evan Thomas was to join the Obama-as-God theme:

“I mean in a way Obama’s standing above the country, above – above the world, he’s sort of God.”

The media continued to perpetuate the theme through ethereal images of a higher being:

And the execrably obsequious

Obama was so convinced of his omniscience that he boldly predicted he would turn the country’s woes around in three years.

“If I don’t have this done in three years, then there’s going to be a one-term proposition.”

One of the most profound observations of the decade has come from Jim Geraghty:

All statements from Barack Obama come with an expiration date. All of them.

Obama does not disappoint, and the false god is knocked from his celestial perch.

In an interview with 60 minutes Obama does his best to disabuse us of his promises:

STEVE KROFT: Do you think that you might have the unemployment rate down to 8 percent by the time the election rolls around?

PRESIDENT BARACK OBAMA: I think it’s possible. But…I’m not in the job of prognosticating on the economy. I’m in the job of putting in place the tools that allow the economy to thrive and Americans to succeed. Sometimes when I’m talking to my team, I- describe us…as…I’m the captain and they’re the crew on a ship, going through really bad storms. And no matter how well we’re steering the ship, if the boat’s rocking back and forth and people are getting sick and…they’re being buffeted by the winds and the rain and…at a certain point– if you’re asking, “Are you enjoying the ride right now?” Folks are going to say, “No.” And are they going to say, “Do you think the captain’s good—doing a good job?” People are going say, “You know what? A good captain would have had us in some smooth waters and sunny skies, at this point.” And I don’t control the weather. What I can control are the policies we’re putting in place to make a difference in people’s lives.

STEVE KROFT: Did you overpromise? Did you underestimate how difficult this was going to be?

PRESIDENT BARACK OBAMA: I didn’t overpromise. And I didn’t– underestimate how tough this was going to be. I always believed that this was a long-term project…And– you know, for individual Americans, who are struggling right now, they have every reason to be impatient. Reversing structural problems in our economy that have been building up for two decades, that was going to take time. It was going to take more than a year. It was going to take more than two years. It was going to take more than one term. Probably takes more than one president.

“I’m not in the job of prognosticating on the economy.”

“I didn’t overpromise.”

“I always believed that this was a long-term project”

“It was going to take more than one term.”

You are an idiot to believe anything Barack Obama says.

This time, I believe we ought to hold Barack Obama to his word.

His original word, that is.

Obama boldly predicted he would turn the country’s woes around in three years.
    Right after he took office.

When he was running he said this:

“We are going through the worst financial crisis since the Great Depression.”

But after nearly 3 years he realized he couldn’t just wave a magic wand and things would fix themselves so he said this:

“I think we understood that it was bad but we didn’t know how bad it was.”

Oddly, his own graphic showing why we NEEDED an $878 BILLION PLUS stimulus also showed things would be all better whether he did anything or not!
Now the media is trying it’s best to make us forget his earlier promises.

what happened is that he is a true beleiver in leftist dogma, which by any sane standard has proved over and over to be a failure. but becuase leftards base thier belief in hopes wishes and dreams, (and unicorn sparkles) he went right ahead with his destructive plans and since it is never leftism that is the failure it falls to the next majical unicorn explanation libtards always fall back to which is, it wasnt funded well enough we didnt go far enough, we didnt have enough control, and those evil conservatives somehow sabotoged it.

The problem is the GOP has voted against helping the economy every step of the way. When they proposed bills, it gives even more to the wealthy and takes from the middle class. They’d rather see you-average Americans suffer and lose houses and jobs before they see an Obama success.

And you buy it- hook, line and sinker.

The fact is the economy has grown every quarter he’s been in office and unemployment is lower than under Bush’s last months. God help us if the GOP gets in to the White House again.

  4. 4

    Gary G. Swenchonis

Lets see, first it was we need to accept that unemployment may just have to stay over 8% that its a sign of the times or whatever. And now we have to accept that these problems may take more than four years, and that when gas was high we should consider our selves lucky because when you figured in all the cost of living, and all that other BS we were really paying the same price we did in 1972. More BS. I was buying gas in 1972 for under a quarter, and did not even think about it. Just one small point. Everytime we turn around we are being told that we must now accept more bad news as the “brave new way of life in this new socialistic society” . Maybe we do. But we also have to be responsible and look for the source of these problems, and then too rid ourselves of them. And then tackle the problems they made.Man oh man! The Pure BS that Obi and team does not come up with. But yet you got those mindless space cadets nodding their heads up and down at all of this BS and then clapping for him. Now thats scary!

The average voter is a low-information voter, with a short attention span and many distractions.

The reason that a politician is willing to tell absurd self-contradicating lies such as these, is that much of the time, it actually works.

As I have said before, the democrat’s philosophy is, “We don’t have to fool all of the people all of the time. We just have to fool enough of them until the next election. “

God help us if the GOP gets in to the White House again.

God help us if Obama is re-elected. The economy is not getting better because of him. It’s getting better in spite of him. It’s proving tough to kill- even for a President Alinsky.

NObama is a fake and a fraud. Anyone that voted for him was duped! I can’t wait until he is proven to be illegal and should not be in the WH, then all his signed bills and appointments will be null and void. That is, if anyone has the gonads to go after him, ’cause we are all called RACIST!

    @ liberalmann:
You had the White House, the congress, and a veto proof senate for two years, ok one and some change if you count Scott Brown. But you still had Snow, Collins, and Brown. You could have had anything you wanted, but you pushed healthcare instead of fixing the economy. Your kung fu is weak libman and no one, I mean, no one is going to buy your garbage.

Here is another very ‘telling’ piece of lip-flapping from that embarassing interview: “And as Michelle reminds me, ‘You volunteered for this thing’.”

“This thing,” is the Presidency of The United States. Is he really this idiotic?

Is “This thing,” so below his self-image that he actual thinks like this? Is his narcissistic ego so deaf that he cannot fathom anyone would lisen to this statement and think he’s an astute thinker and has a grasp of anything or anyone outside himself?

How did he ever get this far?

    3. FLASHBACK: Obama exec order seeks to cut unnecessary travel…

From 1. First lady Michelle Obama and first daughters Sasha and Malia are headed to Honolulu on Friday for a 17-day vacation — without the president.
Obama appears ready to make good on his promise to stay in Washington until the issues are resolved.
The White House announced Wednesday that the rest of the first family would leave Washington Friday evening…..

From 2. Michelle Obama’s separate voyage to Hawaii promises to cost taxpayers tens of thousand in extra dollars, as her separate entourage and hefty flying costs pile on the costs. …. The total tab will certainly be in excess of $100,000, and possibly quite a bit more.

Executive Order 13589 — Promoting Efficient Spending

By the authority vested in me as President by the Constitution and the laws of the United States of America, and in order to further promote efficient spending in the Federal Government, it is hereby ordered as follows:

Section 1. Policy. My Administration is committed to cutting waste in Federal Government spending and identifying opportunities to promote efficient and effective spending. The Federal Government performs critical functions that support the basic protections that Americans have counted on for decades. As they serve taxpayers, executive departments and agencies (agencies) also must act in a fiscally responsible manner, including by minimizing their costs, in order to perform these mission critical functions in the most efficient, cost effective way. As such, I have pursued an aggressive agenda for reducing administrative costs since taking office and, most recently, within my Fiscal Year 2012 Budget. Building on this effort, I direct agency heads to take even more aggressive steps to ensure the Government is a good steward of taxpayer money.
    Sec. 3. Travel.
    (b) Each agency, agency component, and office of inspector general should designate a senior level official to be responsible for developing and implementing policies and controls to ensure efficient spending on travel and conference related activities, consistent with subsection (a) of this section.

Obama: this was the moment when the rise of the oceans began to slow and our planet began to heal@ilovebeeswarzone:
Bees, you hit it out of the park!
Every time some idiot greenie, like Obama, gets a swelled head about what he can do with an entire nation’s economy, as long as we don’t mind our energy prices skyrocketing, God knocks him down to tiny, tiny size.
Yes, Obama is a small man.
Nothing he has done to green up the earth can dent what God allows the earth to do on its own…..

Russian research vessel Academician Lavrentiev conducted a survey of 10,000 square miles of sea off the coast of eastern Siberia.

They made a terrifying discovery – huge plumes of methane bubbles rising to the surface from the seabed.

‘We found more than 100 fountains, some more than a kilometre across,’ said Dr Igor Semiletov, ‘These are methane fields on a scale not seen before. The emissions went directly into the atmosphere.’
‘This is the first time that we’ve found continuous, powerful and impressive seeping structures, more than 1,000 metres in diameter. It’s amazing.’

‘Over a relatively small area, we found more than 100, but over a wider area, there should be thousands of them.’

[This discovery] could add a previously uncalculated variable to climate models.

While these Russians presume melting ice is the cause, there are other possible causes including underwater volcanic activity.

    Poor Obama!
Even if he got his entire green agenda passed it couldn’t undo what God does.
Even if Obama got China on board, it wouldn’t touch this.

thank you, so very interesting, it is incredible to be made aware that in all these years, there is still places on this EARTH,
to be explored and to be found with someting which they alone posess
this METHANE IS explosive is in it?, and if my memory on the OIL SPILL on the GULF,
WAS spitting a lot of it but on a smaller scale from many hundreds feet down,
I would think that what the RUSSIANS found has a potential to be extracted too, as a resource to what ever the use of it. which would benefit them immensely.
that’s another reason for OBAMA to open the CANADA KEYSTONE CORRIDOR as soon as now, for AMERICA’S BENEFIT IN THAT prosperity which coming with it,

yes the GORE AND BLOOD AGENCY are trying to sell more intrusion in trying to sell COMPANYS
SUSTAINEBLE SPIDER WEB , to embrougly them to spend more and have more entitlement,
from those being backed up by the OBAMA ‘S GROUP WHICH would make billions on the shares as soon as they begin to be airborned. in other words they are telling big COMPANIES THEY will do the thinking for them, the green thinking that is, with their big word, and run their COMPANY
SUSTAINABILITY,,SAYING they will be more prosperous than without it they named it

@liberalchild: It is painfully obvious that you did not go to the link I provided. All of the bills that the GOP led house have passed are a matter of public record. If you need help in your reading comprehension, I am sure there are many folks here at FA who would be glad to help you with that.

INRE your refusal to apologize to the infant son of Lance Cpl. Carpenter who now has to grow up without a father; whose father died to defend your ability to make such a public ass out of yourself shows more about your character than all of your hateful, vile lies that you have spewed here at FA put together.

You must be so proud of yourself.

I saw that show too. Huge amounts of CO2 are being released from lakes. Sometimes the gas gets trapped under the water until it comes up all at once. The gas is heavier than air. One lake released so much CO2 that as the gas went downhill it killed people along the way. Another lake has no water exits and all of the animals below a certain height above the lake died when a huge amount was released all at once. Let’s not forget all of the volcanoes.

The biggest problem with the Republican job-bills is that they’re only for show—or primarily benefit someone other than the unemployed. Their efforts in Congress are only responsible for adding hundreds or thousands of jobs, when we need millions–like the Democrats propose. Plus, the Republican plans are tied to efforts which adversely affect the environment or society in general. They are much better at creating religious bills against abortion or LGBT people.

I’m sorry, where…exactly…have these Democrat plans been? Where were these super-awesome million-jobs adding plans back when they had total control of Congress and the White House? Where is the proof in the pudding of their magnificent handling of joblessness? Some seasonal dip in labor department data that under-reports actual unemployment?

How strange that these mysterious plans of the Democrats that promise so much appear with elections on the horizon…yet when elections are won the jobs take back seat to rampant statism and erosion of liberty.

Get thee back to reality, Sirrah!

@liberalmann: Specifics. Name 3 bills the Republicans killed that they should have passed which would have “helped the economy”.

And please explain how strangling the energy industry (resulting in higher gas/oil prices) in the USA has helped the economy while you are at it.

  24. 29

@Liberal1 (COMPLETE LACK OF objectivity): You said:

The biggest problem with the Republican job-bills is that they’re only for show—or primarily benefit someone other than the unemployed. Their efforts in Congress are only responsible for adding hundreds or thousands of jobs, when we need millions–like the Democrats propose.

Really? So if the Dems propose job creating bills that bring about millions of jobs, what happened from 2008 – 2010 when they had the majority in both houses and the Presidency??

No bipartisan bills being proposed in the GOP led House, huh?

    As usual, you are wrong.

    From gop.gov (emphasis mine):

Bipartisan support for the Keystone energy project has only continued to grow in the week since President Obama said he would “reject” legislation supporting the job-creating pipeline.

Yesterday, Sen. Mary Landrieu (D-LA) told reporters that Keystone “has the backing of several Democrats.” “It’s always had more Democratic support than people thought,” she said. All told, as many as 14 Senate Democrats are reportedly supportive of Keystone. That’s in addition to the 47 House Democrats who voted earlier this year to require the administration to act quickly act on the project.

Here’s a rundown of what Democrats on both sides of the Capitol have said in the week since President Obama came out against congressional action on Keystone:

Sen. Mary Landrieu (D-LA): “Landrieu says she’d support Keystone in payroll/ui/doc fix bill. Says ‘good deal’ of D & R support for it.” (Trish Turner, Twitter, 12/15/11)
Sen. Mark Begich (D-AK): “Another sticking point is that Republicans inserted in their bill language that would fast-track the proposed Keystone X-L oil pipeline extension from Canada down to the Lower 48. …Senator Begich is supportive of moving the project forward and his office says that’s not a problem.” (Alaska Public Radio, 12/14/11)
Sen. Kent Conrad (D-ND): “I personally think the pipeline is absolutely in the national interest. It’ll help us reduce our dependence on foreign energy, at least foreign sources that are hostile to our interests… I, for one, on this side would hope that this could be part of a final package…” (Floor remarks, 12/14/11)
Sen. Claire McCaskill (D-MO): “Well, let’s hope we can negotiate something like that… if states’ rights are being protected and if this is going to be something maybe that we can try to jumpstart the approval process, make it go more quickly.” (MSNBC, 12/14/11)
Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV): “I am for the Keystone pipeline. … everyone’s for it, it creates thousands of jobs!” (Fox News, 12/12/11)
Sen. Jon Tester (D-MT): “I am proud to again offer my support for the Keystone XL pipeline and the jobs it will create. We need a quicker decision, based on the merits of this project.” (Floor Remarks, 12/13/11)
Rep. James Clyburn (D-SC): “I’m very much for the pipeline. There is no question about that.” (MSNBC, 12/14/11)
Rep. Dan Boren (D-OK): “I commend the Speaker for including the construction of the Keystone XL pipeline that is supported by business and labor.” (Release, 12/12/11)
Rep. Dennis Cardoza (D-CA): “‘I think the president’s wrong on this,’ said Cardoza, who is retiring after this Congress. ‘He can veto whatever he wants, but those are both policies I support.’” (POLITICO, 12/7/11)
Rep. Gene Green (D-TX): “Rep. Gene Green (D-Texas) said he’s not swayed by Obama’s veiled veto pledge. … ‘The Keystone is awfully important,’ Green said.” (POLITICO, 12/8/11)

Again, these are all things Democrats have said in the week since the leader of their party said he would “reject” Keystone’s inclusion in a jobs bill extending payroll tax relief and unemployment insurance. For months now, Democrats have joined Republicans in supporting the pipeline – which is also backed by a broad-based coalition including organized labor – because it would help create jobs for workers struggling in President Obama’s economy.Source

Then you showed your true bigoted colors when you said:

They are much better at creating religious bills against abortion or LGBT people.

A pretty lame and easy worldview you’ve got there, liberal1 (no objectivity). Too bad it doesn’t jive with reality.

HR 3012 – Bipartisan bill waiting for Senate action:

H.R. 3012 would amend the Immigration and Nationality Act to eliminate the per-country numerical limitation for employment-based immigrants, to increase the per-country numerical limitation for family-sponsored immigrants from seven percent to 15 percent.

The bill would also amend the Chinese Student Protection Act of 1992 to eliminate the provision requiring the reduction of annual Chinese (PRC) immigrant visas to offset status adjustments under such Act. – Source

Millions of jobs? Democrats are the only ones who can pass jobs bills leading to millions of jobs?

    Then explain these, please:

    * H.R. 3630
The Middle Class Tax Relief & Job Creation Act of 2011

    * H.R. 1633
Farm Dust Regulation Prevention Act of 2011

    * H.R. 3010
    Regulatory Accountability Act of 2011

    * H.R. 2930
    Entrepreneur Access to Capital Act

    * H.R. 2940
Access to Capital for Job Creators Act

    * H.R. 2681
Cement Sector Regulatory Relief Act of 2011
This bill is important, more than one might think. In the past 3 or 4 years, eleven cement plants have had to close due to the erroneous regulations by the EPA.

And this is just a handful of dozens of bills passed by the GOP led House and awaiting Senate action. So how you can say that the Republicans are only passing legislation that is aimed at thousands of jobs is ludicrous; it is just as asinine as your bigoted comment about religous bills.

I pity you, your narrow minded, bigoted, hateful worldview.

    Anticsrocks and Meremortal,

I admire your efforts at attempting to move consciousness that is immovable, and probably paid to troll. Being fiscally conservative, sometimes perhaps too much, I spent much energy through the years endeavouring to move the socialist mindset whenever I met it using all the tools I could muster. I found that those socialist mindsets are more entrenched and sanctimonious than most others from the right of centre in the political spectrum.

The Democratic Party has completely been taken over by those who exemplify the very definition of “Socialist.” It’s not terribly difficult to grasp their adoration for Obama and why they’ve had no problem accepting his communist roots and his best friends.

    Socialism’s two top priorities are:
    1. Taxation levels significant enough to enable large centralized government managing all levels of life, and redistributing wealth and goods at it sees fit, and
    2. Snuff out, with extreme prejudice, any contrarian thought.

What a socialist cannot do, and has no capacity to ever do, is create an environment that stimulates independent productivity and CREATES JOBS. Socialists are the antithesis of the entrepreneur. Unfortunately, as also evidenced by trolls who stop by FA to generally spew idiocies, they aren’t well versed in much beyond ideology. They have no idea how to create a better society, or why. This is exactly why countries like Greece, have no ability to grow their economies, and have no chance of repaying their debts.

I’d like to hear more from the Rep candidates on Obama’s socialism. I know it’s been a PR taboo, but I also believe that in majority, America hasn’t yet bought the “Socialist” mantra as being appropriate for the Nation.

so well express ,and these could ring a bell into some who are sick and tired of being just a worker depending on UNIONS to lay out the rules and limits of what they can, what they must and not do,
at their jobs because of the rules to as they put it protect them from over working,
as compare to free workers who take interest in all levels of their as they like to call it their COMPANY, THEIR BOSS, THEIR IDEAS,of innovation, which is so uplifting for the worker on every level of the ladder, well by keeping the limitation on of the UNIONS WORKERS, it result in an automatic way of working without any soul searching to advance and creative search to the betterness of their COMPANY,
THEREFOR stopping the progress level and innovation by avoiding to think of creating and rise with the owner of the busyness which are the ones paying his salary and deserve more dedication from employees, there must be an awareness on that intitlement issue coming from THOSE IN GOVERNMENT also AS UNIONS issue if we want AMERICA TO PROSPER, and start to produce ideas for not only self benefit but for who pays their life needs, it is of the most priority required to hire also,
leader of busyness should begin to REVIEW THEIR POLICY ON who they employed to hire the people for them, because there is a lot who loose the COMPANY’S INTEREST because of LETTING GO a CANDIDATE with years ago error made and paid the price for, are disqualified just because of it, regardless of other assets from the person, which is a big error itself done by the AGENT screening , EVEN IF the person looking to be hired have the creative initiative brain and required assets, to get their COMPANY FASTER ON TOP OF THE MOST SUCCESSFUL OF THE NATION AND TO BE SO STRONG TO COMPETE AGAINST THE WORLD in a shorter time

You point out here “. . . . these could ring a bell into some who are sick and tired of being just a worker depending on UNIONS to lay out the rules and limits of what they can, what they must and not do, . . .” one of the corner stones and traps of the socialist movement, and also its Achilles Heel.

Other than those manipulating the cash and power of unions, the majority of their rank-and-file “know” the problems with the structures they are forced to belong to, whether on the docks of Oakland or the machine shops of New York.

Those ‘problems’ are what grate against human nature, as you also point out. The rank-and-file also know that much of the fees they send to a distant ‘collector’, disappear. The abuse and fraud is rampant, and government agencies are afraid to do anything about it. Most Unions long ago became despicable organizations that destroy the social fabric of the Nation and decay the positive mental energy that is so critical to the long term survival of the country.

Allowed to spread unchecked, unions lead to fanatical dictatorships where the thugs are in charge. One need only look at Russia/Putin for the endgame on that false ideal. Perhaps the trolls running loose around here should take a one way flight to Moscow, and do everyone a minor favour.

the OBAMA administration’s ongoing delay approving the keystone XL pipeline
is a tragedy that is costing the NORTH AMERICAN ECONOMY thousands of jobs, and up to 100 billions
a year in economic benefit, KEYSTONE HAS undergone the most rigorous review of a pipeline ever built
    anywhere in NORTH AMERICA,
IT WILL PROCEED TO A NEW BINDING commitements to proceed a 80 kilometers EXTENTION of the pipeline to facilitate delivery to HOUSTON,
DENIAL OF THE PIPELINE won’t stop the demand for crude oil in the gulf coast

@Smorgasbord: Maybe you ought to re-read my comments. I was responding to James Raider’s comments about how he has given up trying to engage lefties.

I was explaining that I still did so because I was “Hoping” that when other folks read the thread, that maybe what I, and other conservatives have said might “Change” their mind.

How you went from that to my wanting your money is beyond me…

The oil companies don’t donate to Obama as much as the “so called” green energy companies. He is paying back those companies. The companies who own the green energy companies also own all of the major news media except Fox News. The propaganda media are promoting “global warming” so that they will make billions selling there “green energy” products that are owned by their parent company. Only on Fox News was it reported that it costs more to build and maintain these devices than it saves. This is why a lot of the wind generators and other devices that have been put up are now abandoned.

For some reason I hadn’t read your original comment. I make a lot of little mistakes in my life and sometimes I make a big one like this. I’m REALIYN sorry, and want my comment redirected to any liberal who still believes in Obama’s hope and change. The only excuse I have is that my tummy has been telling me to for some time to put something in it, but I wanted to finish the emails before I ate. Confuses say, “Never reply to email on empty stomach.”

Unless the union rules have changed, if the union officials tell their members at one company to go on strike, they have to. This is how the unions threaten the companies. Even if the employees don’t want to strike, their contract says they have to if the union bosses tell them to. The bosses can tell union members of a company that supplies parts to another company that they have to strike. I am guessing it is still this way.
