If it is OFFICIALLY declared a fake (and I’m sure it will be), then that should destroy the democratic party, since they have admitted they did not vett Obama to the states (prove Obama legally qualified to run for president), they will have admitted that they knew he was an illegal. The self-destruct package for remotely piloted vehicles from target drones to satellite launch rockets has been standard for decades. Where was the command authority to push the red button when control was lost? Who designs uber-secret drones to autonomously seek any landing field without regard to enemy control and land themselves? And why is the debate about three courses of action, Presidential decision to not act, concern about “an act of war”, etc. all going on in the mass media?

Something is definitely way off about Iran’s claim to have taken control of the UAV and landed it. Hardware configured like that won’t even fly without its software, and you can safely bet that the onboard controling codes and external controlling transmissions are heavily encrypted.
China’s involvement may go a lot deeper than simply asking to see it. They might have done the hack.

One of our friends was career Navy and he agrees with your assessment that a self-destruct would be standard on virtually anything that flies with a US military designation.
That drone also had a system whereby it tries not to crash when it is out of control.
It tries to soft land.
Still, why not destroy it asap when we knew it had gone down in enemy territory?
This reminds me of the Clinton WH making excuses as to why we couldn’t get OBL. Unless it was 100% guranteed to succeed and not cost the lives of any soldiers or civilians, they wouldn’t do it. Really, it seemed like they were more concerned with getting hurt in the polls that doing what was needed.

Of course Clinton’s immediate successor launched two overseas wars, with military losses running into the thousands and civilian losses into the hundreds of thousands, and still didn’t get him. That required a covert military operation inside a “friendly” foreign state that hadn’t consented to it, ordered by the guy everybody seems to be bashing for his timidity and ineffectiveness. I forget . . . How many U.S. troops were lost in that effort? How many civilian casualties were there?
The truth is that no one here really knows what military options were available with regard to the drone loss. We don’t even know exactly what was lost, or exactly what the Iranians recovered. It’s possible that most of vital internal components were destroyed, and that all they’ve really got is the shiny box they came in.
Does this aircraft not have a self destruct mechanism that can be triggered by satelite? It should.
There doesn’t have to be a smoking crater where the composite air frame was for the hardware that made it function to have been rendered useless.
Maybe the hatch on the top will spring open and a big Jack-in-the-Box head that looks like Ahmadinejad will pop out.

This incident reminded me of one of our spy planes being forced to land in China. I wondered then why the plane wasn’t equipped with a destruct device to be activated before the crew leaves and set to go off a set time later.
