Suspicious wet diaper stripped from 95 year old cancer victim. Your TSA at work! [Reader Post]

This is simply unbelievable.

TSA security officers at Florida’s Destin-Fort Walton Beach Airport patted down a cancer-stricken, 95-year-old woman and forcibly removed her adult diaper during the search, CNN reports. Could this end up being yet another TSA PR nightmare?

Jean Weber was traveling with her ill mother on June 18 from Florida to Michigan to see relatives “in the final stages of her battle with leukemia” when the incident occurred.

She had a suspicious full and wet adult diaper.

While passing through security, TSA officials “felt something suspicious and they couldn’t determine what it was,” so they took Weber’s mother to a private room.

A TSA agent told Weber that her mother’s Depends underwear was “wet and firm and they couldn’t check it thoroughly,” so the mother-daughter duo left in search of a bathroom to remove the underwear. Weber did not have an extra pair of Depends with her.

Weber “burst into tears” but her mother was “very calm” even though she was forced to go through the airport without underwear. Her elderly mother was taken to the boarding gate without her as Weber was still going through security.

The abuse of 6 year old’s and babies was just the beginning.

John Pistole, TSA head, has defended the practice of intrusive children’s searches by asserting the terrorists have used children as suicide bombers.

Not in the US they haven’t. And Janet Napolitano has said that actually screening for the most likely terror candidates is not useful.

Yesterday, TSA defended the forcible removal of the diaper.

Today, TSA denied the forcible removal of the diaper.

Heard this on the news today. While I disagree with the TSA placing so much attention on the woman in the wheel chair, they did not “forcibly remove her diaper”. They told her because of the stool, they could not scan thru the substance and that it needed to be replaced with a clean one.

I dunno… I wouldn’t allow either my mother, or my baby, to stay in a soiled diaper for long… with or without a scan. Yet the daughter, who was flying with her mother, didn’t think to have an extra supply of clean Depends for her mother during the trip. Huh? WTF? Was her mom supposed to sit in that the entire flight?

Bizarre.

So there’s two stories at work here. Profiling all the wrong people, and derelict daughters who I’d love to slap upside the head bigtime for being too stupid to be caregivers. I’m sure she has a job waiting for her at an abusive nursing home somewhere in Florida. I’m not willing to give that woman a pass.

It wasn’t forcibly removed, they just told her she couldn’t fly unless she took it off.

Assholes

Janet “Sherlock” Napolitano – “…you haven’t given me a technique, a tactic, a behavior.”

How about the Christmas Day underwear bomber buying his ticket with cash, one way and no luggage of any sort? And that’s just one example.

Sheesh, this woman is a piece of work. Well it is evident the level of intellect that Obama surrounds himself with.
.
.

So, the question is, do you want to fly? Depends. Sorry should have resisted but didn’t. As MataHarley said, traveling without a spare Depends or two is silly. Not as silly as what the TSA is doing but still silly.

Travelling without a spare wasn’t smart, but then, who thought she would get hauled into enhanced inspection? Probaly scared the c__p out of her.

Dr John Slow news day? Abuse? They did the old gal a favor that her daughter wouldn’t HANDLE.
ABUSE is what the Syrian govt is doing to its children, torturing ,mutilating and sending them home to their parents for burial. That’s abuse.

@rich wheeler: While you might have a point about what is and isn’t abuse, I think you might feel different if that were your Mother or Grandmother that this happened to. The indignity is something that should not have happened. You know it, I know it and it seems that just about everyone except Gubbermint employees know it.

@rich wheeler:

ABUSE is what the Syrian govt is doing to its children, torturing ,mutilating and sending them home to their parents for burial. That’s abuse.

See here, Rich.

First of all, these are union people- they have NO intelligence- they are only good at repititious work that requires no brains- that is why, here too they will be replaced by robots.
Do not feel up babies or old people- and doprofile- It works!

Mata, what if the lady soiled her Depends while she was being pulled out of the line for a patdown? Would you, as her daughter, rushed up to her (which the TSA would NOT allow) and stripped her down right then and there to embarrass the poor lady even more? You are making assumptions (the daughter did not have another Depends with her) that you are not in a position to make. When the TSA refuses to allow parents to aid children with broken feet and tell them to stand away from the pat down area, do you think the TSA would allow this daughter to aid her mother?

Try putting your brain into gear before you put it into motion. And acknowledge that under the current administration, you forefeit your 4th Amendment rights if you want to fly.

@retire05: While I agree that you give up most of your 4th amendment rights if you want to fly, you should not have to- ” Those who would give up their liberty for security, deserve neither liberty, nor security.” Ben Franklin.
Slowly but surely, we have given power to the various administrations to subtly begin to strip away our liberties, under the guise of safety and security, and this is not right.
First, it should be the airline company’s right and obligation to establish security on their airlines- no safety, no fly. People WILL vote on who is the best airline, as to who gives the best service, and that would include safety. We do not need, and should not depend, on the government, which has proven itself inept time after time.
Why do you think the nickname of the FBI is the “Feebes”?

re: 4th Amendment:

Freedom of movement is slowly being taken away, or heavily regulated, by government. Government will not allow you to fly (i.e. freely travel to any part of the country you desire) if you do not subject yourself to their searches and restrictions. Some say that travel by air is a privilege and that if you don’t like to TSA rules, take a different form of travel, however, the government is discussing, and in some cases, implementing the same requirements on train and bus travel. Travel by personal automobile has been mentioned as well – all in the name of “security”. Pretty soon, all modes of travel will be determined to be a privilege granted by government, if and once, you comply with their regulations.

Travel by automobile is being subjected to “congestion” pricing whereby you have a government tracking device in your vehicle and you are taxed — oops, charged a varying toll — for travel on certain roads at certain times of the day. If you are not wealthy enough, you may end up not being able to afford to drive anywhere locally at the times you need – let alone driving to other locales in the country.

SouthernRoots, by the actions of the TSA, and the American people’s willingness to forfeit their 4th Amendment rights, the terrorists have already won, haven’t they? The intent of the terrorists was just as much to disrupt our lives as it was to murder us.

We are an open society of over 300 million people. No amount of police state can protect everyone from every harm. Yet, the very same people who will say “But retire05, we have to go through that process of letting TSA grope us so we can be safe when we fly.” Needless to say, those very people accept more risk on the streets and highways when they are driving to the airport.

This is a subject (ie question) that should be brought up to the Republican Candidates. Will they work to protect our Fourth Amendment rights and to restore common sense to travel? or will they continue to support the conversion of rights into privileges as elite “Progressives” (Republican and Democrat) support?

@Ditto: I agree- there should be a litmus test for the Republican candidates-less government, more liberties- and more profiling!
We have yet to be attacked by children or grannies wearing depends. This is what I mean when i say the TSA union goons cannot think for themselves- profile, people! We haven’t been attacked by Swedes or Danes, so let them go by- but cavity search a burqua-ed person, or one who is praying loudly to allah-those are the ones I would keep my gun trained on-
Just sayin’-
