I think we should institute a weekly award for biggest hypocrite.
My nomination for this week goes to NY Rep. Anthony Weiner, who said this last year,

BTW, according to the nonpartisan Tax Foundation: “The corporate income tax is set to rise from 7.3% to 10.9%, a 49% increase and (making Illinois‘) the highest state corporate income tax in the United States and the highest combined national-local corporate income tax in the industrialized world.”
In other words, anyplace Caterpillar moves — and that means anywhere — the tax situation will be an improvement on what it faces in Illinois.
Obama in the past has discussed Bush and Cheney being in bed with “Big Oil”, and the tax breaks and subsidies given to their “friends in the oil industry”.
Now we get this from Obama:

And that was just the first of many half billion dollar, government backed “loans” to so-called green companies owned by, or with board members, who gave to Obama’s 2008 election campaign.
I don’t believe he’s changed the atmosphere in DC. Just who is allowed to partake in it.

(CNN) – There are multiple reports out today that President Barack Obama has signed a “secret order” authorizing covert U.S. support for Libyan rebel forces.
According to Reuters:
Obama signed the order, known as a presidential “finding,” within the last two or three weeks, according to four U.S. government sources familiar with the matter.
Such findings are a principal form of presidential directive used to authorize secret operations by the Central Intelligence Agency. This is a necessary legal step before such action can take place but does not mean that it will.
Meanwhile, ABC News is reporting that the finding doesn’t “provide arms to the rebels immediately, although it does prepare for such a contingency and other contingencies should the president decide to go down that road in the future.”

Look at the most recent summary report for the California State Teachers’ Retirement System (CalSTRS).
The average annual salary in 2010 for active working educators enrolled in the system was $64,156. The next table states that the average retirement benefit paid out in 2010 was $4,256 per month. That’s $51,072 annually.
Did you happen to notice that CalSTR’s retirement system is based primarily on the investment of their holdings into the private sector? The amount invested totals around $150.1 billion. Surely any self-respecting capitalist would appreciate the significance of such a pool of capital. It’s the sort of thing that underpins the business loans they depend upon.
Isn’t this along the same conceptual lines as what many republicans have argued should be an alternative or adjunct to the current Social Security retirement system?
Historically, Cerenkov radiation was discovered by Pavel Cerenkov in 1934, while he was studying the effects of radioactive substances on liquids. He noticed that water surrounding certain radioactive substances emitted a faint blue glow, which is now termed Cerenkov radiation. This radiation, as you pointed out, comes from particles travelling at a speed greater than the speed of light in the medium in which they are moving.
The electrons that are ejected from the nuclear fuel elements are fast than the speed of light in water (about 75% of the speed of light in vacuum). Similar to the supersonic bang of jets that fly faster than the speed of sound, Cerenkov radiation is emitted by water as the fast electrons pass through it. The blue shimmer of the Cerenkov radiation is visible on the right of the photo, showing the pool containing spent reactor fuel.
So it seems that is not abnormal.
The spent fuel ponds are located on the service surface floor area of the reactor design.
They’re about 40′ deep, with 4-5 feet concrete walls, reinforced with steel.
BTW, the US huge cement pumps enroute will be used to spray water for cooling, and can do so at a safer distance, and probably with more accuracy than a helicopter in the air. If they can manage to start coolant systems, then cementing the reactors can be an option. However you can’t pour concrete over rods that don’t have controlled cooling. Cement will not harden under those high temperatures. So they have to sort out a way of stabilizing the coolant before that’s an option.

Yeah… it had been baffling me as to why they wouldn’t just seal the dang things off. I spent some time in the past week or so, surfing around physics and nuke oriented sites to explain what may be obvious to them, but not to us. I figured it had to do with stabilizing them… but the simplicity of not pouring concrete onto high temperatures escaped my brain cell… LOL
Oh, I forgot to add that the robots being sent are for radiation level detection.
One more add about helicopters dropping water…. remember that electronics are highly sensitive to radiative emissions. Since much of it was emitting straight up, it was hampering the ability of helicopters to hover directly over the spent fuel ponds. Makes the cement cranes, adapted to spray water, more logical. Plus that, if they can restart the coolant systems with the grid power run to the site, they can can turn to their original purpose of cement for sealing.

BTW, the US huge cement pumps enroute will be used to spray water for cooling, and can do so at a safer distance, and probably with more accuracy than a helicopter in the air. If they can manage to start coolant systems, then cementing the reactors can be an option. However you can’t pour concrete over rods that don’t have controlled cooling. Cement will not harden under those high temperatures. So they have to sort out a way of stabilizing the coolant before that’s an option.

Yeah… it had been baffling me as to why they wouldn’t just seal the dang things off. I spent some time in the past week or so, surfing around physics and nuke oriented sites to explain what may be obvious to them, but not to us. I figured it had to do with stabilizing them… but the simplicity of not pouring concrete onto high temperatures escaped my brain cell… LOL
Oh, I forgot to add that the robots being sent are for radiation level detection.
One more add about helicopters dropping water…. remember that electronics are highly sensitive to radiative emissions. Since much of it was emitting straight up, it was hampering the ability of helicopters to hover directly over the spent fuel ponds. Makes the cement cranes, adapted to spray water, more logical. Plus that, if they can restart the coolant systems with the grid power run to the site, they can can turn to their original purpose of cement for sealing.

Thank you, but I do not want it, nor wish it on people. I’ve led when I’ve been called upon to do so, whether back in HS in sports, or the military, or in my career after the military. I believe that one should be fearful of those whose ambition is to lead, for those are the ones who would deem to know what everyone else should be doing, and paying too much attention to those around them, instead of themselves.
