Poll – Arizona Gov. Brewer Beats Challenger 60/38…Voters Deciding Race On Issues Rather Than Debate Performance

Loading

Gov. Brewer screwed the pooch in that last debate she had…no doubt about that. It was a bad performance, but as we all know a good debater does not make a good leader. Bush was alright at debating but not stellar in any way shape or form. When it came to running and protecting this nation however he WAS great. Not perfect but no human being is.

The liberalsjumpedall overthe Brewerdebate and highlighted it in multiple blog posts all over the web hoping this would somehow prevent her re-election and the Democrat pool could grow with illegals again swarming throughout Arizona.

They thought wrong:

Despite her halting debate performance last week, Arizona Republican Governor Jan Brewer now earns 60% of the vote in her bid for reelection, her best showing in the race to date.

A new Rasmussen Reports telephone survey of Likely Arizona Voters shows Democratic Attorney General Terry Goddard with 38% support. One percent (1%) like some other candidate in the race, and another one percent (1%) are undecided.

The race remains Solid Republican in the Rasmussen Reports Election 2010 Gubernatorial Scorecard.

Two weeks ago, Brewer posted a 57% to 38% lead over Goddard. Since May, Brewer’s support has steadily risen from 52%, while Goddard’s has hovered in the 35% to 39% range.

The survey, taken Tuesday night, follows nearly a week of negative publicity surrounding Brewer’s debate performance and suggests that voters remain focused on the issues that divide the two candidates.

Ya think?

Imagine that….voters that consider the issues first and foremost and debate performance second.

The left wants to paint Brewer as an uneducated dolt because of her performance, but in the same breath extol Obama as some kind of genius. Here is Thomas Lifson writing about the recent Obama remodel of the Oval Office:

Woven into the new presidential seal rug adorning the Oval Office is a misattributed quotation, offering us a perfect metaphor for the Obama presidency. Jamie Stiehm reports in the Washington Post:

“The arc of the moral universe is long, but it bends toward justice.” According to media reports, this quote keeping Obama company on his wheat-colored carpet is from King.

Except it’s not a King quote. The words belong to a long-gone Bostonian champion of social progress. His roots in the republic ran so deep that his grandfather commanded the Minutemen at the Battle of Lexington.

For the record, Theodore Parker is your man, President Obama. Unless you’re fascinated by antebellum American reformers, you may not know of the lyrically gifted Parker, an abolitionist, Unitarian minister and Transcendentalist thinker who foresaw the end of slavery, though he did not live to see emancipation. He died at age 49 in 1860, on the eve of the Civil War….

The error perfectly encapsulates the shallowness of Barack Obama’s intellect and his lack of rigor. Obama is a man who accumulated academic credentials while giving no evidence whatsoever of achieving any depth. He was the only president of the Harvard Law Review to graduate without penning a signed article in that esteemed journal. His academic transcripts remain under lock and key, as do his academic papers.

For the sort of people like David Brooks of the New York Times, who are impressed by fancy degrees and a sharp crease in the trousers, Obama may appear to be the smartest-ever occupant of the Oval Office. But, as the old joke goes, deep down, he is shallow. Underfoot, literally, there is woven into his background a prominent vein of phoniness.

For some reason or other, Obama has been able to skate through academia and politics without ever being seriously challenged to prove his depth. A simple veneer of glibness has been enough to win the accolades of the liberal intelligentsia. But now that he has actual responsibilities — including relatively trivial ones like custodianship of the inner sanctum of the presidency — his lack of substance keeps showing up in visible, embarrassing, and troubling ways.

Bookworm on the Obama rug and Brewer brainfreeze:

Incidentally, you see the flip side of all of this with Jan Brewer’s paralyzing moment of silence during the debate. Jan Brewer is not glib. Instead, she is more of a Moses:

Then Moses said to the LORD, “Please, Lord, I have never been eloquent, neither recently nor in time past, nor since You have spoken to Your servant; for I am slow of speech and slow of tongue.” (Exodus, 4:10)

I don’t think that anyone would argue that Moses’ slow speech meant that he had a slow intellect, lacked leadership abilities, or that he was ethically challenged. No one — at least no one who isn’t as shallow as a plate — would conflate moral heft or intelligence with glibness. Oh, wait. I’m wrong. Everyone on the Left does exactly that.

To the Left, the fact that Obama reads well from the teleprompter and tosses around a few erudite phrases (and he has well-creased pants, per David Brooks) means, ipso facto, that the man must be a genius. (And since I’m a lawyer, I do get to throw around the phrase ipso facto with a certain professional aplomb.) Who cares that he has a blank record when it comes to actual proof of intelligence, common sense, practical abilities or moral compass?

And about Jan Brewer? Forget her effective time as governor, and the brave and moral stance she’s taken on behalf of Arizonans (and other Americans) by standing up to the federal government for its refusal to enforce its own laws. If you’re a Progressive, the fact that she suffered a momentary brain freeze means she’s obviously an idiot, as are all the people who look past the words and into her depths, and who support her on account of the latter qualities, not the former.

As I said at the top of this post, I know a shallow intellect when I see it.

And it isn’t Governor Jan Brewer.

It’s our President.

Arizonans are a tough bunch to figure out. They support McCain and Brewer, who cancel out each other when it comes to illegal immigration. Doesn’t matter what McCain is spouting now; he’s still Mr. Amnisty.

#1 AZ are a tough bunch to figure out.
I voted for JD, You have to remember McCain spent 20 million + on negative adds starting at day one in a primary. Every other evening commercial was a McCain JD hit piece. JD tells it like it is and that upset a lot of the establishment. Palin endorses McCain in the beginning, but I believe she kept out of mud. I guess she owed John one. One other point, many in the media suggested that JD was beatable in the general whereas John was a shoe in. So do I trust John to keep his word, do old dogs learn new tricks?

“Except it’s not a King quote. The words belong to a long-gone Bostonian champion of social progress. His roots in the republic ran so deep that his grandfather commanded the Minutemen at the Battle of Lexington.”

While the words aren’t original to Dr. King, he in fact spoke them, in his final Southern Christian Leadership Conference Presidential Address, August 16, 1967:

Third paragraph from the bottom:

“Let this affirmation be our ringing cry. It will give us the courage to face the uncertainties of the future. It will give our tired feet new strength as we continue our forward stride toward the city of freedom. When our days become dreary with low-hovering clouds of despair, and when our nights become darker than a thousand midnights, let us remember that there is a creative force in this universe, working to pull down the gigantic mountains of evil, a power that is able to make a way out of no way and transform dark yesterdays into bright tomorrows. Let us realize the arc of the moral universe is long but it bends toward justice.”

Parker’s original words: “I do not pretend to understand the moral universe; the arc is a long one, my eye reaches but little ways; I cannot calculate the curve and complete the figure by the experience of sight; I can divine it by conscience. And from what I see I am sure it bends towards justice.”

Brewer stood up in a BIG way for the citizens of Arizona and against the invasion thugs and drug dealers which is crippling the state. She could commit murder on the capital steps and still, rightly be re-elected.

The polling results in Arizona can be summed up when it comes to their next Governor – substance over style.

Brewer has gravitas while her opponent, the AG, has refused to do his job and instead has sucked up to the Obama administration.

GOVERNER BREWER, CONGRATULATION, THE ARIZONIANS are very united and loyal citizens
I love it.
