I wonder if the people who would vote to reelect Obama might be union members, unenlightened Blacks, his Socialist/Communist brethern, along with a few just really stupid people. Oh and a few Gays who still believe his empty promises to make gays entitled people, eligible for all the perks including Affirmative Action. Talk about an empty coalition, how would you like to depend on that bunch to stay in office. Don’t forget all those college professors wearing tweed sport coats and sandals.
@Skumcum, well these “union members, unenlightened Blacks…Socialist/Communist brethern….really stupid people…and a few Gays….” are your fellow countrymen. No more, and no less. Get used to it.
Does anyone still buy that “it’s the Republicans” whine anymore? I mean really? Only the most partisan base is gonna fall for it. Everyone else either knows the Dems had Congress for 4yrs now and made Bush’s last 2 lame duck years, OR they’ll at least recognize that Obama and Dems have ruled all for the past 2yrs, even had a supermajority, and STILL haven’t made things better,
This administration reminds me of a hormonally-gargantuan seven-year-old bully in a playground full of five-year-olds (that’d be Congress).
Sadly, this particular seven-year-old bully seems to be trying to steal the swingset and sandbox before he leaves (that’d be our economy and way of life).
Sounds like everyone is pretty excited for Nov. Maybe the Repubs will win and you can all go on worshipping rhetoric, rather than policy.
I haven’t been here long and I’m through with this blog once the novelty dies off, but I’m going to go out on a limb here and say that if I’m looking for a conservative political analysis I’m probably in the wrong place.
Democrats Could ‘Absolutely’ Lose Majority Control in Congress, Some Strategists Say
New Poll Shows More Voters are Supporting Republicans in Mid-Term Elections
A Wall Street Journal/NBC poll released today found that voters were split over which party they preferred to have a majority in Congress, with 44 percent favoring Democrats and 44 percent Republicans; 12 percent said they weren’t sure. But 56 percent of those Americans who said they were most interested in the midterm elections supported Republicans, and 36 percent backed Democrats, “the highest gap all year on that question,” according to the poll.
Carville, of the early morning conference call with Rahmbo clique, chimes in:
The White House and Democrats are “acutely aware” of the sentiment in the country, said Democratic strategist James Carville on “Good Morning America” today, and it’s “absolutely possible” that Democrats could lose control of Congress. “It’s not good,” Carville said. “The Democrats need a strategy to re-energize some of their voters.”
So, of course Obama is trying to pin unemployment on the GOP, it’s the old, “look over there trick” …it isn’t working anymore, not on the majority of the people anyway.
He spent us into oblivion, failed to produce the millions of promised jobs and now he’s out there making a fool out of himself by flat out lying……again. Now, less and less are believing.
Carville again:
Carville, like other Democrats, hopes that positive employment numbers will continue to come in the next few months and help narrow the margin between Democratic and Republican supporters.
There’s an article out today explaining that the millions of lost jobs aren’t coming back. Kind of like the perfect storm. Millions are being replaced by technology and there is no longer a need for their work, the recession benefitted companies, it his just when they needed to get rid of employees. Unless Obama pumps up his hiring frenzy, fast, unemployment numbers are not going to help the democrats by November. Obama, Carville and the DNC should be well aware of that.
I haven’t been here long and I’m through with this blog once the novelty dies off, but I’m going to go out on a limb here and say that if I’m looking for a conservative political analysis I’m probably in the wrong place.
I, I, I, I, I. Gee, would ya let us know if you are somebody important or something?
Sounds like everyone is pretty excited for Nov. Maybe the Repubs will win and you can all go on worshipping rhetoric, rathe policy.
Can you be more specific? Like, which policy?
The idea that Gitmo shouldn’t be closed?
The policy of shooting at the enemy rather than handing out medals to soldiers who don’t?
How about the policy of staying in Iraq and Afghanistan because both are vital to our national security?
FISA policy?
Patriot Act (co-written by Dems, and made permanent by Dems)?
Could it be the idea that waterboarding KSM wasn’t torture because 9/10 Americans would’ve done a lot more than just pour water on the SOB?
Maybe you think we should be praising policies that are against bailouts for banks, state govts, uber corporations, and everyone except the American worker (damn those Tea Party radicals)?
The policy that gay marriage is a state issue (damn that beauty queen and Obama)?
The idea that don’t ask don’t tell ain’t gonna happen ’cause the US military is not the same as working in a head shop in San Fran?
Seriously, what policy(ies) are you talking about?
From larrythestableguy “haven’t been here long and I’m through with this blog once the novelty dies off”. So when we are done entertaining you, you’re outta here? Heres your hat, whats your hurry. And don’t let the door hit you in the arse on the way out!
Dems campaigned 4yrs ago on all kinds of promises, and rantings and ravings, and then got put into power and did exactly as the Republicans they booted out. The real raving should be from Democrat voters about how they were lied to and misled by their leaders. Oh, the war in Iraq is bad [insert any leftist argument here]. Then once elected, “Well, we’re gonna continue Bush’s strategy because the war in Iraq is bad, and he was wrong, but [insert Bush rhetoric coming from Dem mouth here]
This same bs can be found on anything and everything from “torture” to fiscal responsibility, balanced budget, oh, deficits are so bad, and more. Dems lied on absolutely every front, deliberately misled their followers, the nation, and the world, deliberately divided us all, and then once in power…they got nuthin left
@Scott, there is actually no fundamental difference between Obama’s policies and Bush’s. One you put rhetoric aside. That’s all.
Pretty much, but that means Repubs are just gonna gripe that it was bad before, and now it’s ok? meanwhile mindless lemming Democrats will still follow Obama and the Dems even when they use Bush/Repub policies that they opposed for years. Why? ‘Cause opposition was never about the policies….it was about the letter in parenthesis after the candidate’s name.
Larry, excellent point and my omission, with your wit and wisdom you have raised the bar for intellectual discussion and will be an asset for attracting new people who want to engage in heated argument and name calling.
@Skumcum, well these “union members, unenlightened Blacks…Socialist/Communist brethern….really stupid people…and a few Gays….” are your fellow countrymen. No more, and no less. Get used to it.
From now on, I will have no problem remembering the nationality of the Obama supporters, thank you for your participation. Everyone has a contribution to make; I am confident that we will be seeing something from you, eventually.
btw Larry, I rarely bite trolls anymore (though I’ve always found the most leftist ones to be good eats). I just don’t have the time or inclination. I spent the Jan dealing w insurance, Goodyear, and my wife’s MS. Feb/Mar trying to open a small business to feed the poor, and April fighting/beating cancer that showed up in my eye at an exam to get glasses. I’ve seen the absolute lowest examples of oxygen parasites so far this year; people who are owed things, people who are mindless robots and can’t think for themselves enough to decide whether or not to use a fork or a spoon, and I’ve seen some of the finest people on the planet (my eye doc is one of the 4 best in the world, and I didn’t get him because of some bulls*it govt healthcare bill). I simply don’t have the time to play games that I wish I could. That said, when I see bs like the star f*cker comment…yeah, I’ll nibble for 10min.
Troll on, but let’s get real and lose the name-calling etc. as I don’t stand for it w my pre-school son, and I won’t allow it when I see it here.
I think you have had quite enough of “if things can get any worse,” enough of that! You have weathered some bad storms, bravely, without complaint, time for things to turn around for you.
Thanks for sharing some of your time with us, thoughts and prayers for you and your family! I’d say stay strong, but with you I don’t think I have to.
The “man” has no grasp on reality. Everything in his dream world, if it doesn’t work out, is someone elses fault. He is unable to take any kind of accountability, and must blame others.
Thanks Mike, I knew he was losing it with his comments to twellsy, when Skookum fired a warning shot with his great big game rifle he answered with an unarmed squirt gun. I knew then and there that someone would take his pathetic weapon away.
@Larry The Stable Guy: well what I meant was that the only thing that has changed in Washington is the way things are said, not what is actually done.
@Larry The Stable Guy: @Scott, there is actually no fundamental difference between Obama’s policies and Bush’s. Once you put rhetoric aside.
Only thing “changed”??? You’ve been under your rock a bit too long, Larry the Libertarian guy… aka Josh G. Whilst you weren’t looking, the current admin – along with his supermajority cronies – quadruped the deficit, laid the first paver for single payer health care, took prior budgets and inflated them far beyond the big spending prior admin, crossed the line on unfunded mandates and commerce clause, seized auto industries and rearranged the exec line up while dictating their production line, and spent yet another tril on unstimulating stimulus.
All in the first year.
Then, of course, there’s the WH assaulting private industry from the bully pulpit (Toyota) in order to bolster GovtMotor sales, and now BP. But he doesn’t stop with industry…. he also takes the time to demean pundits and citizens that disagree. Thuggery is the political teat on which this POTUS was weaned, and he has no compulsion to cease exercising a proven formula for getting his way.
I have my disagreements with Bush decisions, just as I have with every POTUS in my lifetime. However I’d say that the “change” and “remaking of America” is so in-your-face that it negates your comment that “… the only thing that has changed in Washington is the way things are said, not what is actually done.” There is an ocean of “fundamental differences” between Obama and Bush policies.
I’ll have to add my support to a few others here that your imminent departure would certainly raise the bar of debate astronomically. While you find FA a “novelty” that can wear off, I assure you we have seen no “novelty” in you, and have tired of your snot nosed schoolyard one liners days ago.
Larry has one point that may, or may not be, true, and that is about the direction Obama and Bush are taking the country. One has to wonder, outside of the terrorism issue(s), if the GOP would be heading towards the same destination as Obama with the statist policies, all due to the GOP prior to Obama wanting to “play nice” and attract voters with pandering to all comers. Realizing that the last two Bush years were under a Dem controlled congress, I think a McCain presidency would have been a big disaster for America as well, just not to the extent, nor as fast, as Obama’s is seemingly taking us over the edge of the cliff.
What I hope is that the TEA party’s formation, and absolute disgust by most American’s with statist policies will turn the GOP away from being “dem-lites” and towards true conservative values. I, myself, support true conservative candidates where possible, and never dems, with this hope in mind.
One thing about Krugman: he has become increasingly political and cultural. It’s one thing to be a Keynesian, it’s another thing to “get serious about climate change” in order to stimulate the economy. I mean, we could also “get serious” about offshore drilling.
I cannot tell if you are trying to pimp Krugman, or just be contrarian with those last two posts. I cannot speak for anyone else here, but whenever I see anything about the man, I tend to shy away from taking his nonsense in. Keynesian economic viewpoints have never made much sense to me, as it all seems like wishing the economic problems away, rather than using common sense and tried and true methods to right the ship, so to speak. Add in any political bent to the meme and, to me, you have just another politician standing up in the boat and adding to the instability rather than helping to row towards safe ground.
The GOVERNMENT cannot spend the country out of a recession….as the money it uses DEPLETES the PUBLIC’s spending power. It’s the consumer on the STREET, John Q. Public, that makes the economy rise… or die. More money in OUR pocket, and LESS DRAIN (wasted/spent money) at the GOV level will cause the economy to right itself… simple but true. Anything else is a waste of money, time and effort.
Simple example… You could give GM 50 TRILLION dollars (WOW!) but, if WE do not have the money to BUY a GM product… they will STILL go belly up bankrupt! It’s not so much how much you have in a companies bank account, as much as it is DEMAND for their product/service!! In the end, it’s the STREETS buying power that matters… we don’t buy, a company folds. Simple enough.. too bad the IQ’s in DC are to low to even grasp THIS!
“You could give GM 50 TRILLION dollars (WOW!) but, if WE do not have the money to BUY a GM product… they will STILL go belly up bankrupt!”
A Keynesisn might say that $5 trillion of the $50 trill is labor costs. That’s $5 trillion that GM employees are pumping into the consumer market. They’re paying their grocer, who is now settling his dentist bill, who is now hiring a gardener, who is driving a GM truck.
Another $25 trillion is directed into GM suppliers. GM suppliers now have money to pay their own employees. These employees are now back to paying their rent, their landlords are back to re-investing in mortgages, the bankers are back to collecting interest, eventually those rates will rise…people start saving…blah blah blah…
This is where you start to see clauses in the GM bailout that GM HAS TO purchase domestic products, b/c what’s to stop them from just pumping up China’s working class even more?
You don’t have to be a Keynesian. But seeing as the man’s main objective in life was to save Capitalism from pinkoism, I don’t think it hurts to understand his model.
@Hankster58…If Government Motors goes under a part of Obama’s Union support base takes a hit.
Unemployed Union Members cannot pay the dues that go into the Democrat/Socialist Party slush fund. Union Officials lose their Cadillac Health Care, their hyper inflated salaries and their Power.
It was never about the working class or the “little guys”.
My point being that Team Obama and the Democrats reckoned that THEY are too big to fail.
*The Taxable/Dues paying entity is the Cow. It takes milk to make Free Ice Cream.
*Free Ice Cream buys Votes.
*Now the Taxpayer OWNS 60% of Gummint Motors. Ain’t Socialism grand?
Remember that 53% of the American Voting Public asked for this.
Not too difficult to figure out. Just imagine what happens when the Free Ice Cream runs out?
Obama now Owns the economy. It is quite frankly not sustainable.
@Larry The Stable Guy…Where in the Constitution is it mandated that the US Taxpayer fund or bail out any Private Industry or or purchase a controlling interest in any Private Sector enterprise?
Don’t give me any BS about “Promoting the General Welfare” or a “Commerce Clause” argument that has been much abused by revisionists, criminals in Congress or the Current or Past Regimes.
There is No Constitutional basis for the irresponsible raid on the US Treasury, borrowing from any entity to fund the US Government’s daily operating expenses either.
Are IOUs to be considered assets?
Is the highest deficit in Public Debt in the history of the Planet to be considered an accomplishment?
The current direction of the US Economy is absolutely non-sustainable.
Stick to the questions and refrain from offering “they did it first”.
I am not Party affiliated nor will I embrace any of those that have no answers and are just re-arranging the deck chairs on the Titanic.
@Larry The Libertarian Guy: A Keynesisn might say that $5 trillion of the $50 trill is labor costs. That’s $5 trillion that GM employees are pumping into the consumer market.
…. snip….
Another $25 trillion is directed into GM suppliers. GM suppliers now have money to pay their own employees. …. snip….
Cash pumped into business is certainly stimulus, Larry. But it’s rather un-libertarian of you to suggest the source of that cash would be government, courtesy of the taxpayers. Here’s the flaw of Krugman’s thinking, IMHO.
The Princeton professor and New York Times columnist said most economies should have more aggressive stimulus programs than seen so far and added rising budget deficits had saved the world from a replay of the Great Depression of the 1930s.
“What we should be doing is a lot more support for economies. Yes, deficits are a concern but so is a world economy which is probably operating 7 or 8 percent below capacity,” Krugman said.
To the first paragraph… no, the rising deficits didn’t “save” the world from a 30’s depression. It merely kicked that can down the road. Printing dollars for revenue not yet earned, and banking on the unrealistic using past GDP growth and consumer fanatical spending is simply dangerous folly by those who can benefit now, and won’t be around to absorb the blame later.
And BTW, I see Krugman’s only now getting a clue to the W shaped “recovery”… ala the double dipper. There’s been many of us warning about this since the ARRA debates. Since he’s late to the ballgame, he’s dropped a few more notches in esteem for me. At least before he stuck to his predictions instead of sticking his finger in the wind and backtracking. Your new Nobel value is only as good as your last prediction, ya know.
Secondly, one would have to weight the enormity of the nation’s debt increase, and the unfathomable costs of interest to sustain that, against the spending that resulted from government injection of worthless dollars. A prime example of that is the TARP and financial insitutions who took the cash, but held back on lending and instead made cash amongst themselves with 0% interest and high risk investments that were, instead, no risk investments because Geither stood by with more cash in his fist for them.
Then again, Keynes was a big believer in running deficits. Wonder if this much deficit, combined with a massive entitlement mentality – which slashes the healthy revenue sources he was trying to create – was what the man had in mind. I suspect not. I also wonder if, when he was instrumental in setting up the World Bank and IMF, if he could foresee the corrupt and useless powerhouses they could become today.
Keynes biggest flaw was that he believed government was capable of making good decisions, and genuinely wanted to promote private sector health with it’s efforts. That attitude hasn’t been around the beltway for almost a century. Keynes should have paid more attention to the Founding Fathers warnings about power and corruption.
Considering that just about everything in an individual’s existence today is considered to be a “right”, instead of an earned reward, Keynesian theory has become impractical and obsolete in the entitlement era. Instead, organizations like Marxist.org… highlight him as author, using his theories as an end to their means. As such, his intent as it relates to capitalism has been distorted, and now used as a supporting tool by socialism/maxism.
>> My point was.. the MEGA DOLLARS going IN does NOT give the same value (stimulus) coming OUT! ( Not enough bang for the buck!!) Since most of the PARTS (25 trillion you used as an example) are made OUTSIDE the U.S. now, what good does THAT do us????? We need the stimulus now, not later..
and Old Trooper I concur!! A big part was PAYOFF for getting elected… unions got a big slice… INVESTORS got the shaft!! 180 degrees backwards! Typical Democrat operations.. pay to stay! Only. I do NOT want MY dollars used to pay off anymore!
WHEN thoses trols come here with a way of insulting and bullying ,i always think that they are being paid to troubleshoot; and i wonder on how high is their money come from. they all play the same game like robots.
I see, Greg. So the “good of the nation” is to bankrupt it with the path to single payer, quadruple the deficit, and increase federal govt size and costs to pamper the entitlement mentality? And what has the GOP done to be “unfair” to Obama? Or perhaps you and your thug POTUS believe that “STFU, or else” is the new 1st Amendment?
You’re whining…. Obama’s had it easy. The media’s in his back pocket. And whoever isn’t, and is feint of heart, is cowered by his admin’s bully pulpit. This man is so far from American in his visions for “remaking” the country, it ain’t even funny. And neither are you, BTW.
Greg, why not tell us all where they put partisan ahead of the Nation??? The Obummer Healthcare Plan IS BAD for AMERICA! They did the RIGHT thing!!! You see it different?? Big Difference between “Party of No”.. and being a “BrainDead” “follower”…. as most Dems in DC are now….. No thought… just “Follower the orders of Der Fuehrer”.. i mean Obama… Pitiful! Overpaid Senators who cannot do basic math!
Hmmm…Stimulus…the basic concept is totally flawed if it is borne entirely on the backs of the taxpayer, bloats Public Sector employment with unnecessary Agencies to administer it, enlarges the Deficit by ANY MULTIPLE, creates next to zero Private sector jobs and increases the tax burden while cutting back on Services like MEDICARE, mandated Social Security payments for those that invested in it or places Czars or Commissars not vetted by the Senate or elected in positions of authority to call the shots.
This new “Vision of America” is quite frankly not American. It has roots deep in Socialism and is tyranny exercised over the Rights of Private Enterprise and Citizens alike by those that have overstepped the Constitutional bounds of their employment.
Only a few Special Interests were “stimulated”. Stock and Shareholders were bilked out of huge amounts of investments while the Nation waited for an effect. The effect is a huge public debt, no growth in Industry, the threat of increased taxes to pay for the waste, fraud and abuse that was perpetrated by both Congress and the Current Regime on the taxpayer.
TARP, Cash for Clunkers and other schemes disguised as “stimulus” failed to create anything more than debt for the taxpayer and rewards for Special Interests. While Congressional oversight failed to reign in Fannie & Freddie, the SEC surfed the net for porn while Wall Street Pirates that contributed heavily to the Regime raped, pillaged and plundered investments, pension funds and savings. No one disciplined, fired, fined or sent to Prison over this business. The Health Care Mandate is clearly not Constitutional but that was not seen as an issue by the Regime.
Pretty shameless behavior. I have witnessed this thievery in Third World Countries over the years. Demagogues lecturing and wagging fingers in fiery rhetoric while the deals they cut are carried out by minions with no allegiance to anything but their self interest.
Time to clean house America. There will be additional harm done before November if you do not hold your Government accountable soon. Hopefully it will not be irreparable but the next Generation or two will be footing the tab for this level of fiscal irresponsibility.
If only there had been such zeal for fiscal responsiblity during all years that republicans occupied the White House and had control of Congress.
Where was the passion for constitutional law during the 8 years that the Bush/Cheney administration put unitary executive theory into practice?
Why no outrage on the right when constitutional rights were trumped by presidential directive, or when signing statements were repeatedly used to circumvent legislation?
Did anyone even bother to read and think about the implications of NSPD-51? If Obama were to issue such a directive, people would be pouring into the streets. (People pouring into the streets would probably have been sufficient reason to envoke NSPD-51. Maybe it’s a good thing that those who were paying attention didn’t.)
None of which is to say that there’s no reasonable basis for criticism of Obama and the democratic majority. Only that I know a double standard when I see it.
“After they’ve treated him so fairly, and unfailingly put the good of the nation ahead of partisan politics…”
As if he made any effort to meet his dissenters halfway just as he promised. He claimed that he was open for discussion with his opposition, although his actions have contradicted that.
Private industry: produces goods and services in order to earn a profit. Provides jobs and things that people want and need. Motive: make things better, both for consumers and employees. This is the group which built the United States up to where it is today. Enemies of progressives; as we all know, private industry discriminates. Products which do not sell disappear; products which do sell get made more often. It is an uneven playing field, as some prosper and some don’t; all for reasons of quality and satisfaction.
Government: cannot produce goods and services, nor create jobs. Redistributes wealth from those who create the wealth to those with political connections. Motive: accumulate power, as one’s pay and emoluments are a function of the number of one’s subordinates.
Challenge: name me one product or service provided by Government. You cannot do so, not now, not at any point in history. Governments must be fair, which means that no one can ever be fired for incompetence. The only reason one can be fired from Government is doing too good of a job.
Ignore the trolls.
Deal with the problem. We cannot spend ourselves out of an economic collapse. The Keynesian spending will only result in bankruptcy, like the Weimar Republic, Argentina, or Greece.
And Obama believes only in Government.
@Greg: If only there had been such zeal for fiscal responsiblity during all years that republicans occupied the White House and had control of Congress.
Where was the passion for constitutional law during the 8 years that the Bush/Cheney administration put unitary executive theory into practice?
ah yes… when you lib/progs run out of facts for your delusional and emotional debates, you once more conjure up your favorite Satanic duo, Bush and Cheney, for finger pointing.
Get a grip on reality, Greg. I’ll make it simple… putting it in easy to view pictures. I’ve said this over and over, yet it still slides over the heads of the O’faithful. The Bush big spending commenced the year that the Dems seized the Congressional reigns in 2007. And perhaps civics is a lost curriculum, but Congress is in charge of the budget and money. The POTUS recommends, and can either pass or veto the final budget presented by Congress. Veto’ing, however, also has it’s repercussions when you are waging war in two theatres.
And speaking of those wars, they have been ongoing since 2002 and 2003. Yet it’s only in 2007 that the incline is supposed to be attributed to what is not even 1/3 of the nation’s overall spending? Tell it to the Ayer’s educational system grads. They’re dumb enough to believe that crap.
Here’s another one for you… the US debt to GDP ratio, with how much is defense. Again, note that rise under a Democrat Congress since 2007? So what was the horse manure about spending you were saying, Greg?
And like you, we’re watching Obama take it to new heights, along with the help of a supermajority Congress. O’healthcare, as we now see in the official CBO aftermath, did not pass muster for budget resolution because it most certainly was not budget neutral, nor budget slashing. If Obama doesn’t get his cap and trade, he’s already promised to put that in using EPA regulation changes, just as Clinton did with the CRA standards back in 1995 with Robert Rubin… instrumental for pushing the pebble over the cliff for the housing avalanche. He’s abusing TARP legislation by using it for industries for which is was not legally intended. Nor is keeping it for a rainy day slush fund.
If this is your idea of the moral “high road”, you need to put that bong down, guy.
