Las Vegas Mayor Believes Obama Has “Psychological Hangup”

Posted by: Former Author @ 8:20 pm in Uncategorized  | 772 views

Obama “not welcome in my city!”

Las Vegas Mayor Oscar B. Goodman (I, former D) describes himself as “happiest mayor in the universe.” When Obama slammed Vegas again in his Town Hall appearance in New Hampshire this week, the Mayor’s sunny disposition turned cloudy:

“I guess you’ve all seen the president’s remarks or read about the president’s remarks, well I’ve got some remarks of my own. I was back in Washington, D.C. about two weeks ago, going up and down the halls of the capitol telling people about our economy here, trying to get them to be sympathetic to what we’re trying to accomplish, then I have to read what President Obama said.

“He has a real psychological hang up about the entertainment capitol of the world. An apology won’t be acceptable this time, I don’t know where his vendetta comes from but we’re not going to let him make his bones by lambasting Las Vegas, that’s why (the press) is here today.

“He didn’t learn his lesson the first time, but when he hurt our economy by his ill conceived rhetoric, we didn’t think it would happen again, but now that it has I want to assure you, when he comes I’ll do everything I can to give him the boot back to Washington and to visit his failures back there.

“I gotta tell you this, everybody says I shouldn’t say it, but I gotta tell you the way it is. This president is a real slow learner.” [KTNV transcript]

In a Q&A session which followed Mayor Goodman added:

“I want the president to straighten this out,” Goodman said. “If not, he’s not welcome in my city, as far as I’m concerned. He’s not our friend. I don’t know about people in Nevada, but in Las Vegas, he’s sure not our friend.”

Goodman said he didn’t care if he received criticism again for going after the president.

“What? Little weenies are going to criticize me? Forgetaboutit. I could care less about that,” he said. “I’m the mayor, I’m trying to protect Las Vegas. And I don’t care what these little pundits say.”

Obama is a slow learner. Obviously he learned nothing from the election of Scott Brown and still insists on blaming all his troubles on Republicans and former President Bush.

Perhaps when White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel made the remark about leftists in the Dem Party being “F—ing retarded” he was also describing Obama!

Personally, I think this whole hubbub is much adoo (adieu) about nothing.

I don’t really have much of a problem with what Barry said.

Besides, there’re many other things to crucify Barry about (lies, Socialism,
corruption, etc.), but this isn’t one of them.

We need to pick our battles a little better.

I’m a little confused. Every other thing or person Obama tells us to stay away from flourishes. For example, Joe The Plumber, Rush Limbaugh, and Fox News (they now have 13 of the top 15 cable news shows). Las Vegas should be doubling or tripling its revenue since King Obama forbade us to go there. I have never gambled ANYWHERE, but if I lived close enough to Las Vegas I would be tempted to gamble there for the first time and send King Obama a picture of me doing it.

If I were the mayor I would put out a news release for people tired of being told by King Obama what to do and what not to do. I would encourage the casinos to set aside an area for people who are against Obama telling them what to do and see how many people show up.

I’ll tell you where the vendetta is from, Chicago has LOST MAJOR McCormick Place events (shows – Electronics, Food, Housewares) and where do you think they have chosen as their new destination? And for good reason, the unions at McCormick Place were so nasty and self serving that vendors voted with their feet – OUT OF CHICAGO.

Now that McCormick Place has lost the luster, all of a sudden the unions want to “work” with you – a day late and a dollar short.

Obama is just getting even for Mayor Daley with Vegas.

You could be right, but Vegas convention centers are just as big with unions. I think this was an off the cuff remark from this duffus. I think everyone attributes this nutjob with complex calculating and I don’t believe he is that smart. This was his little way of a ‘teaching moment’ because he is so enamored with his own voice. Pretty sure I read he was upside down in his finances when he was a community organizer. Now he is lecturing all us dumb crackers about personal finance.

I just giggle when I hear him talk now. The guy’s a joke. I have to think the intellectuals are nervous every-time he steps up to speak. They know.

I must disagree with you. It shows a blatant disregard for the economic prosperity of en entire state. I don’t believe that a President has ever told the rest of the country to boycott an entire American industry. The Zero is the first. He is also the first sitting President since the civil war to be dis-invited from an American City. His administration is now beyond redemption. The Zero gave himself a, “solid B+.” I would grade him a solid F. Fortunately, the American poeple get to give him midterm grades in November of this year. Judging by the quizzes given by Virginia, New Jersey, and Liberalchusetts, all I can say is Mike, que up the Henry Mancini Music. By the way folks, I saw today that jobless claims, “unexpectedly,” rose again this morning. I have tow thoughts, this is further evidence of the Zero’s continued failing grade. Also, we may need to take up a collection to buy the AP another adverb. Apparently, unexpectedly, is they only descriptor they have.

and yes i have a problem with obama slamming ANY STATE OF CITY IN THIS COUNTRY. I DON’T A DANG WHETHER YOU LIKE GAMBLING OR HATE IT. THAT ISN’T THE POINT. if we let him get away with continuing to diss us, it is like a family member constantly criticizing you and destroying your self esteem. Let’s not forget, that besides suggesting a boycott of an entire industry and an entire state, it is also a cheap attempt at instigating class envy and warfare. The Zero has never passed an opportunity to castigate the business leaders of our nation, (you know, those people who do the hiring.) It may be the single dumbest statement made by a sitting President in the history of the United States. (Carter has plenty of gaffes as a former President which could give the Zero a run for his money.)

He could have a vendetta, but I still think when he is off the prompter, his skill, or fallback response is double talk. Therefore, he is just ‘filling empty air space’ with words. He has no ongoing plan, so he reaches back for pet phrases, and unfortunately for Vegas, it is right there.

I hope he keeps on talking, his real emptiness flows out for everyone to witness.

Obama is in over his head. I have to think that when he goes off teleprompter, his handlers collectively hold their breath. He sticks his foot in his mouth every time he speaks without a pre-written speech. From demeaning the Special Olympics to trashing America, he’s only a puppet that can’t have the hand taken out of his backside controlling him at any point.

That being said, I’m sure what he ‘meant’ to say was something along the lines of “with what we’ve seen in the recent past with our economy, people really need to review their budgets and make sure that they’re living within their means. The housing market is a direct result of those types of failures. Corporations are no exception.”

I know he can’t really say that because he doesn’t practice what he preaches, especially with Tax MONEY (take the wife on dates, parties every Wednesday, chefs flown in weekly, etc.), so no one will take him seriously, but still….throwing Vegas under the bus was yet another gaffe from the gaffetastic gift that keeps on giving: The Obama Administration.

I heard Mark Levin the other day mention that the reason BHO keeps dissing Las Vegas is because it epitomizes capitalism. And, we know what “O” thinks of capitalism.

I think it is extremely reckless, if not intentional, for Obama to point out any city in the country in a negative way at this time during a recession. He’s basically exploiting the economic welfare of Vegas for his own personal bias. Bad, bad, bad, I say!!!

I’ve not been to Vegas in many, many years, but now that they are receiving this unfair treatment, it makes me want to patronize the city a bit, go to a couple shows, whatever! This can be a blessing in disguise for the Mayor!

This was Barry’s quote:

So you’re saying that people SHOULD go buy a boat when they can’t pay their mortgage? Or they SHOULD blow a bunch of money in Vegas (or anywhere else) when they’re trying to save for college?

That’s not what I’m saying at all. Try reading the whole thing, and not juat the first line. Equating corporations and family budgets in this manner is assinine. It shows a complete mis-understanding of how the real world, and the corporate world work.. This is dangerously naive for a President. Little Barry sees our captains of industry as greedy little gluttons who have no other thoughts than to service their lust for a good time. Those Las Vegas Conventions are tools used to rally the troops and to offer retreat time in order to more focus management for their daily performance. In other words, they help build larger profits for the companies who hold them. It is both simplistic and wrong to just write them off as extravagent parties to satisfy your dreams of class envy. This one episode is a perfect illustration of the Zero’s contempt for American business, and his view of the intellect of the American Voter.

The Zero also decided to use the opportunity to bash and entire industry, and an entire State. President Bush learned in his first five days in office to be very careful with his words to the press. The slightest misstep by a sitting President can send markets tumbling, enemies scrambling jets, etc. Little Barry it seems, (you know the really smart President,) has yet to learn this lesson. The last time he made this kind of a statement, Las Vegas suffered a demonstrable decline in patronage, which could be corelated directly to the Zero’s statement, Knowing this, Little Barry did it again.

I’ve been around for a long time kid picking my battles. I am really good at knowing which issues are improtant, and which ones are nonsense, and it is my belief that this one is that perfect illustration as to why this imbecile should not be POTUS.

Given the practices I’ve seen from the dolts in the transaction based world, (mostly controlled by the Liberals on our industry by the way,) The equity markets might seem like a giant casino. For actual investors though, the equity markets do not involve buying worthless pieces of paper which gain and lose value based on the fears and greed of the Merrils of the world, but actual ownership of businesses which produce goods and services for a profit. Over the long run, the prices will follow earnings. @rich wheeler: It’s “the truth” and I “know it”? ’scuse me whilst I correct my original comment, and expand it to you being an arrogant superficial snob. Your comment speaks for itself on superficial. Your arrogance is your erroneous assumption that I agree with you – spoken or unspoken.

Aside from the fact you are a shallow type that judges people by their appearance, LV is filled with conventioners and vacationers. Been there more times than I can count for both reasons. Not all are members of Gamblers Anonymous, and the majority enjoy the casinos sans jeopardizing their financial stability. And, in fact, if you and your POTUS wish to blacklist a casino environment, what’s next? Cruise ships? Indian casinos all over the country?

However, you do accurately portray the liberal/progressive iconic belief that the individual cannot manage their money as wisely as the government can.

As far as the O’comment goes, I consider it a statement of O’s perceptions, which apparently echo yours. Both of you tend to paint every LV visitor with the same negative paint brush, and the town as an evil trap for all. You, however, insisted on adding your own shallow views, which also encompass the tourists’ physical condition. Guess that means you’ve topped your Prez in offensive commentary.

I agree with the bronze that it’s not high on my criticism list. Obama’s ill-thought-off-the-cuff Vegas statement is laughable, and I shall let the Las Vegas denizens take him to task for it. It is their city, and their economy. They have every right to seize on it with venom.

You must mean Bernie Madoff, Goldman Sachs, Don Mozillo, etc. I’m impressed you lasted five years at Merrill before you washed out. I can also name litteraly hundreds of companies, who for a myriad of reasons no longer exist. I guess that illustrates my point about Merrill guys. Love is never having to say you are underdiversified. While it is true that in the last 5 years the S $ P 500 has only shown an average yearly return of 1.83%, the last 30 years is a different story. Typical short term thinking. Your comment now allows me to label you as a dolt. One of the basic principles in planning is adjusting for time horizon.

As for the ease in being a CFP, you are full of bologna. Becoming a CFP requires passing required course work at an accredited institution. After passing this course work, with acceptable grades, then each state requires that an examination administered by the state be passed in order to use the title. Continuing education is also required. As a matter of fact, a full 68% of all candidates fail the state examinations on their first try. So no Mr. Wheeler, not anybody is able to be a CFP.

@Reno Deb: Good point! I would just add that “Obeyme” doesn’t want folks flying to Vegas. Instead, he wants us to send him that money in the form of taxes so he can pay off more of his union and ACORN buddies and attempt to buy more votes.

There are people outside of LV in Nevada, richwheeler, …and I am one of them. That means that “what happens in Las Vegas” does not just stay in Las Vegas. It affects the entire state.

Las Vegas is not just gaming and conventions although the leisure/tourism industry is what keeps it on the map. The city – and state – is full of real people just like any other city in the US. That means that people engage in whatever profession is necessary to make money. Not everyone is a stripper, pimp or professional gambler…there are professors, businessmen/women, engineers, etc.

It so happens that Nevada, WITHOUT a state income tax by the way, is overly dependent on a single industry that provides a minimum of 35% of the total income in the state supporting the majority of education as well as infastructure or other functions required for its citizens. If you took the time to investigate, since you are apparently so smart considering you worked for Merrill Lynch, you would know that with very few exceptions the casinos are owned and operated by large corporations – in many cases multinational corporations who, in many cases, are financed by the very sort of company you worked for in the past. For your edification, most of those corporations own facilities throughout the US as well as outside the US. As I’m sure you already know as a former Merrill Lynch employee, corporate profits in one location many times offset losses in another location so they manage to stay in business. The taxes that the gaming industry pays to the state of Nevada are based upon gaming profits. When profits are down, tax revenues are down. So, whether one lives in LV or in rural Nevada one must be concerned when a major industry within a state continues to be demeaned that in the end effects their ability to earn an income.
Those statements do have an impact when made by the imbicile Obozo. And, thank goodness Mayor Goodman has the wherewithal to respond! But I’m sure that a former ML employee would certainly recognize that a pig is a pig, with or without lipstick, be it the anti-American resident of the White House – or a former employee of Merrill Lynch.

Never Ends Get Real To blame the “anti-american pig Obama” for L.V.’s problems is chickenshit. I wouldn’t go if he sent me 1st class airline tickets.Vegas got caught in the inflated 2000-06 real estate boom. The city and it’s residents like many others got carried away and are now feeling the pain of these excesses.Obama’s words are not powerful enough to hurt it or help it. You give him way too much credit. As for your personal attacks on me they don’t hurt a bit. Enjoy the Super Bowl. Semper Fi

@rich wheeler: More attacks on Nevadans?

I guess Obama isn’t the only “slow learner.”

…. sez he from California. Another state just as, if not more, guilty of these “excesses”.

Panic not, rich wheeler. With your ‘tude, I doubt LV would roll out the chuck wagon, let alone the welcome wagon, for those like you.

Speaking of chuck wagon, just a word to the wise. If you’re planning on visiting OT in his neck of the woods, you may want to clear it ahead of time that you’re a guest, and not the main course for the campfire.

You know, richwheeler, the way you write sounds very much like one of the ocrs (that’s another word for internet troll) that gets his talking points from the Soros-funded underbelly of America.

And, you’re right about:
the mayor has defended “mob” people so I wouldn’t screw with him;
Obozo’s words are not powerful enough to hurt… he just keeps bloviating trying to get SOMEONE to listen;
finally, don’t go to LV under any circumstances. It’s much too classy for you.

Many thanks for the M.H. LAUGHING DOLL. I LOVE IT! It’s true the great state of California is suffering many of the same problems as L.V. The R.E. boom and bust has badly deflated the state’s revenue.Unlike certain Nevadans we’re not blaming political off the cuff remarks.Cal and L.V. will recover in spite of the politicians.

N.E. The closest I’ ll get to “classy” L.V. is flying over it on the way to a great American city like N.Y.,Boston or Miami. Go Saints.

@rich wheeler: I can’t take credit for the ROTFLMAO animation. That’s a Wordsmith find quite some time ago, and it always makes me grin as a way to make a point.

You are in error that Nevada denizens are “blaming political off the cuff remarks” for their current financial crisis. They are accusing him of thwarting more efficient recovery. And there is truth to that since, in the wake of his original remarks, the convention bookings took a dive.

However it can be said that, unlike certain Californians, the Nevada folks aren’t looking to the WH for a handout as a solution. They are asking him to step aside, and allow their state’s tourist business economy to continue as usual. And I’m quite sure they can survive without your personal visit.

There iare big differences between why the State of California is suffering, and why the State of Nevada is suffering, and the real estate market is an symptom (i.e. as a result of), not a cause.

California is suffering due to a government/voter attitude of political-fiscal irresponsibility. It was a situation of their own creation.

Nevada, on the other hand began experiencing it’s financial problems on and after 9/11. While marketers and developers tried to continue to expand the city, It never really recovered from the loss of conventions and tourism the attack caused, and and the growing country-wide recession has made things worse as less individuals and businesses have the discretionary spending that enabled them to visit Las Vegas. None of this is the fault of Nevada citizens or it’s government, but is due mostly to the drop-off in tourism. Nevadans are at lest lucky in that the last two decades has seen explosive growth in population and non-casino business employment. (Many who relocated from California to leave it’s less business-friendly legislature enacted tax and regulatory burdens.)

Incidentally, many other cities that sport casinos type entertainment are also experiencing low tourism numbers as well, but Obama has decided specifically and unfairly, to target Las Vegas as his whipping boy.
