Since they are bankrupt too, I guess they don’t budget any better than the US, oil or no.

HEY MIKE,
Halliburton has its corporate headquarters there. There might be more than one variable for why that building is over there, and not over here. In fact, why are most corporations themselves moving away? AND TO SOCIALIST EUROPE TOO? weird, huh?

@N. Ando: Obama is scaring businesses away from the U.S.

Here’s a video of the fireworks:

click the corner for full screen.

With all those pyrotechnics it’s amazing that building didn’t burn down.

America gets no oil at all from UAE/Dubai. Most of theirs goes to Japan. Oil is only about 25% of GDP, and they have open-trade with us, meaning no tariffs, no restrictions on goods or services. They also have 0% tax on corporations, and permit 100% ownership. 8% (3rd place) of imported goods are from America, but most comes from China, and India, with Germany in 4th place.

They have a good strategic alliance with our military (against Iran), and we have never had an “man-caused-disaster” originate from there.

They are Islamic, but many levels down from Saudi Arabia/Iran, and accept westerners openly.

I congratulate them for paying for an engineering marvel…(The S. Koreans eng/built it.)

Sorry. My info cuts off those kind of outliers. Now look up Canada or Venezuela oil-imports, not to mention looking up how and who financed this magnificent structure.

California pumps over 700,000 brls a day, 70% from Kern county alone. Our money toward the tower might have paid for the toilet paper in the bathrooms. (maybe)

Now when Saudi Arabia builds their proposed one-mile high building, we can definitely say we paid for a big part of it. And I’ll bet it’s done before our Freedom Tower is.

@Patvann: Well if you want to rephrase ” gets no oil at all from UAE/Dubai.”

Quite enough there to pay for a building that size.

Just a quick comment- the drawing with the other tall buildings includes an outdated one of the new New York world trade center. The current structure will not have windmills but rather a doughnut shaped top with a spiral antennae. There is a structure going up in China that will be the second tallest building in the world and a soon to be completed building in Mecca will be the third tallest building. There is a proposed building in Dubai that would be even taller than Burj Dubai but it is currently on hold.

@Patvann:

If current economic trends continue they might want to substitute our dollars for toilet paper – it’ll be cheaper.

WORK ACCIDENT

Wouldn’t it be ironic if they blew the building up when they did that? I mean, these ARE Arabs, after all.

And, speaking of energy independence, here’s the Jewish take on it.

We can. But if we don’t, it’s not going to be good for either us OR anyone else.

@yonason:

No worries about the building being blown up. They made sure all the Nigerians and Yemenis were given one way tickets to the U.S. and Obama’s homeland security had approved their visas.

And your video link reminds me of this early Mike’s America production:

@Mike’s America:

“No worries about the building being blown up. “

DAMN! Uh, I mean, too bad. ….No, wait, …um, …”good thing?”

re: your video.

I know the first part, the whole of which is hard to find now.

As to the “virgins,” I wish I could have recorded my response instead of just telling you I found it amusing. Rosie! LOL! Yeah, that might just make a few of them think twice.

(So sorry, Ahmed. You didn’t read the fine print, did you?)
